Hotel Julien Dubuque

My daughter had her wedding celebration at the Julien on 11/20/2021. It was a wonderful day. Nicole was fantastic to work with and was so organized and detailed oriented. The food was exceptional especially the cocktail hour spread. Numerous guests commented on the quality of the food and the service. The staff was very professional and attentive . I would definitely recommend the venue to any bride planning her special day.

We had a wonderful experiencing working with the Hotel Julien! As a result of covid we postponed the wedding & had multiple last minute changes, management did a great job of working with us and accommodating. The event planner, Nicole, and team were exceptional to work with and everything the day of was perfect!! The majority of our wedding guests were from out of town; they stayed at the hotel and also had a wonderful experience all around! Highly recommend as a wedding venue!

Had my wedding rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception at Hotel Julien. The entire staff was very helpful and welcoming! Anyone I asked questions of or requested something from was very willing to help. The rooms were very nice. The ballroom is beautiful for a wedding reception! The food at the reception was also delicious! The hotel is also just a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos. Loved that I chose to have my wedding here!

We just had my daughter's wedding reception at Hotel Julien and we liked it so much we are having my 2nd daughter's reception there! The wedding coordinator is wonderful to work with, the staff was amazing, the food was delicious, the service was very professional. It is really nice to be able to have the whole 2nd floor for cocktail hour and the reception. It gave our guests another area to go to if they wanted to sit and chat with friends and family. We made it our own space by placing decorations and pictures of the bride and groom on all the tables outside the grand ballroom. We also rented the Capone Suite which was extremely convenient because it's right down the hall from the ballroom. The bridal party used the space for morning prep and the photographer got beautiful pictures there. Beautiful space, staff is great, price is great for everything you get. I would highly recommend Hotel Julien to anyone!

Do yourself a favor and book your wedding with the Hotel Julien! They were absolutely amazing every step of the way and the venue is gorgeous. Most of my guests also stayed with the hotel and had nothing but wonderful things to say about their stay. Nicole, the wedding coordinator is INCREDIBLE! She was so helpful, organized, and kind during the entire planning process. The staff listened to all of our concerns leading up to the day and everything went flawlessly. The food we served was also amazing. Many people even said that the steak that was served was one of the best they had ever had! Our catering captain, Joe, was also astounding! He was so friendly and attentive. I couldn't pull myself off the dance floor, but he made sure to bring me anything I needed so that I didn't have to. I cannot thank all of their team enough for creating such a special day!

We used the Hotel Julien for lodging prior to our wedding so that we had a room in Dubuque to get ready in. We booked the suite and it was beautiful! There was plenty of space for 10 or so girls to get ready. The beds were comfortable and I felt well rested. The hotel was very accommodating for whatever we needed. The only downfall was that you had to book both Friday and Saturday to stay so we did not do a room block here because many family members only wanted Saturday night. I would definitely stay here again.

We got married in November and our reception at Hotel Julien was nothing less than perfect. Our guests had a wonderful time, the food was fabulous, and the staff were so helpful. Beautiful venue for a wedding.

Our guests were impresses by the wait staff serving nearly 200 meals so quickly. No one felt they were sitting at the last table. The beef tenderloin and chicken cordon blue were excellent. The paradise salad was a big hit.

Our wedding turned out beautiful and was managed very well the day of, but there were some surprises and bumps along the road that lead me to give fewer stars (I'd like to give 3.5, but that's not possible). The hotel wouldn't give us more than 20 rooms even though 85% of our guests were coming from out of town and we couldn't request more until the original block filled up. The original block filled up shortly after our guests received the invitations and at that point they could no longer get us more rooms. Because of this I had to scramble for alternate hotels. Luckily the Holiday Inn a few blocks away could give us a decent sized block and because they were considerably less expensive, guests preferred to book with them ($140/night vs $192/night). Also, when I requested to check into the bridal suite early, they said that was a hard no even though they knew the time of our wedding and there was no way for me to 1) get ready 2) conveniently get our things into the hotel room in the middle of the ceremony. I only asked for early check in at 11am, which I didn't think was unreasonable, especially considering it wasn't booked the night before. So, I had to pay the $280 (approx.) to book the room the night before our wedding. The meal prices were also surprisingly high. I live in Chicago and $36 for a steak is much more reasonable here. However, everyone did say the food was really good. One last thing - I was quite surprised that the only option to do welcome bags was for them to deliver at $10 a bag. That's more than a food delivery fee across town, an extra $200 we found unnecessary and kind of out of line to ask. I guess we just never really felt that we got the treatment we would expect from the highest priced venue in Dubuque.

This venue is absolutely gorgeous. They really know how to pull off a wedding. Allie was great to work with. I am a huge foodie, while Julien's menu looked delicious, I wanted something a little more fall themed. I suggested a chicken bruschetta and pork with apple instead of cranberry. Allie sent those suggestions to the chef and they came up with chicken topped with smoked mozzarella caprese and Dijon crusted pork with apply chutney. They were absolutely delicious and our guests were very excited to get their meals. We also wanted flavored water and Julien happily obliged. Lastly, we wanted a late night food. I was sick of having pizza for a late night snack, so I suggested grilled cheese: Gouda with caramalized onions and cheddar with bacon. They were a hit! Everything Allie and the Julien staff did for us was so amazing and made our perfect day run so smoothly. Thank you so much, it was truly the best day of our lives!

The ballroom is absolutely beautiful. The staff did a wonderful job catering to special needs and also taking care of any incidents to make things go smoothly. There was a transition of wedding coordinators but the one the one we had on the day of the wedding went above and beyond the previous one.

We had our reception at the Hotel Julien and everything was a dream. The wedding coordinator Allie made sure everything was perfect, and let us have lots of fun with our entertainment (sweets table, Lego table, and photo booth). The night of the staff was top notch, I never was bothered with a single problem. The food was amazing, and definitely crowd pleasing. The accommodations were great as well, my family even enjoyed having the Capone Suite as both hotel rooms for two couples and great place to sneak kids away from the party for naps and diapering. Overall I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

If you are a bride looking for something other than the cookie cutter venue, this is your place! The 1920s design of the hotel adds elegance and class to your reception that you wouldn't find anywhere else. The Grand Ballroom is beyond words, and will just amaze your guests. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderfully. The banquet staff were super friendly and on top of everything. If there were any issues, no one ever knew about them due to their high level of expertise. Our cocktail hour was the perfect start to a great reception. They have a wedding coordinator on staff that will help you with everything, and be there the day of to make sure everything is perfect and that the most important people, the bride and groom, are happy with everything. Guests were so happy and so impressed with our reception, and we know we couldn't have done it with out the help of the Hotel Julien and their staff. I did have a few issues between communications with the wedding coordinator during the planning time which is the only thing keeping them from getting 5 stars. This venue was worth every penny spent, and will forever make our wedding special and different from every other wedding.

I chose to host our wedding reception at the Hotel Julien Dubuque and am more than pleased! The venue for starters is absolutely beautiful! Every girls fairy tale dream! The ballroom is grand and the staff was very attentive. Working with the wedding coordinator Andrea made everything seems to run smoothly and I felt worry free knowing she was handling the affair. The staff at the hotel was accomodating to our needs and was very helpful in making the entire weekend go off without a hitch.

We absolutely loved having our wedding at the Hotel Julien! We had our ceremony in the same room as our reception and the flip they did during cocktail hour was amazing. They are so good at what they do and the service is amazing. The food was absolutely delicious and I would recommend it to anyone. Andrea, the wedding coordinator, was very helpful and prompt in replying to emails and phone calls. We had 200 guests and I thought we got a great price for the number of people.

I had my reception in the River Room at the Julien. We had around 120 guests, and the room was perfect for this size. The terrace connected to the room is great, the food was awesome, and the staff was super helpful. The only downside was that we had to leave the room at 10 pm because they open it up to the bar.

Hotel Julien was the perfect setting for my wedding reception - the beautiful ballroom, grand staircase, the mezzanine area - everything was just what we wanted. It creates the feel of romance - perfect for my fairytale wedding. And the staff there was great - Angie, the wedding coordinator, was extremely helpful, always responded to all my emails very promptly, and just made the planning process very easy.

Had our ceremony and reception here. It is a beautiful space and everything went very well. Our guests were impressed.

My friend booked her wedding here 2 years in advance, and 30 days prior to the wedding, they told her it was double-booked and she was the second bride so she would need to find another venue. We came to find out it was a prominent Dubuque family that was 'first' and doubted they truly had been first booked. However, my friend had a gorgeous wedding at the Casino in the area. Hotel Julien was beautiful, expensive, but service overall was lacking with the unprofessionalism of canceling a month in advance. I hope they compensated her for the stress!

Absolutely Beautiful venue! The only complaint I had the entire evening was hot hot it was in the room! Otherwise I couldn't have been happier! The food was amazing and satisfied even the pickiest of eaters... including me!

We used this hotel for accomodations for our guests. Many of them couldn't get over how beautiful and clean the rooms were for the great group price we received. Everyone said they had a great stay there. My husband and I stayed in the Whirlpool Suite on the top floor and it was amazing! The view was awesome and the room was beyond exceptional!

food was great. staff was fantastic. the venue is beautiful.

We had a buffet for the dinner. It was wonderful! They made a special dish of mac and cheese for me!

Our wedding party gave us a night stay in the Hotel Julien for the night of our wedding and the hotel was amazing. It was the first time we stayed since the renovations and I will def. be pushing others towards staying there as well! The suite was huge and the hotel itself was amazing!

This is beautiful! We would've had our wedding here, but it only fits up to 400 people, which is only both of our family's combined. We had a 700 people wedding, as we also have a lot of close friends and family friends. It is expensive though. We hosted a 700 person party at another venue for the same price it would have cost for a 200 person wedding at the Hotel Julien

Not only was the beautifully renovated hotel reminiscent of the 30s and 40s which is intoxicating in itself, but the ambience coupled with the beautiful scenic view of the city, as well as the wonderful food and exceptional service are all to be expected with the Hotel Julien. We were so pleased with how smoothly everything happened on the day of our wedding and the day was truly that of a dream come true. You will not be disappointed in your choice of the Hotel Julien Dubuque. They by far will exceed all your expectations and go above and beyond to meet your requests.
