We had such a positive experience working with Linda, Zachary, and Jose for our wedding at Hotel Viking. We knew at our initial tour that this would be the site of our ceremony and reception. The Kay Chapel is absolutely stunning and seems too good to be true to be just steps away from the hotel. We were so excited to be able to have all aspects of our wedding in one place without the need for transportation. It also made it so much more special bumping into your loved ones in the hotel lobby (which is stunning!) all weekend.
In terms of the day of, everything was run so smoothly! I couldn't believe how stress-free everything was, truly making for the most special day for us. A huge highlight for many of our guests was how well cooked our entrees were - the chef did an incredible job!
Highly recommend having your wedding at Hotel Viking!
We our locals to Newport for the last 5+ years and wanted to get married in the same city. We booked the viking and planned for a 2 year engagement.
Ill start with the warning ⚠️ the %service fee in your contract if its gone up from your contract to your wedding date they dont keep track and dont pay attention and tell me the forms could not be changed so I had to have them manually fix all of the pricing a minimum of 4 times, each time a new person was involved. Easily they could have charged me more for not being diligent because weddings are expensive and i am sorry if they cant change an excel sheet or pdf in this day and age they need to upgrade to adobe pro and microsoft office.
Also when i signed the contract I was told certain things that would be done- windowsill candles, votives, signage for guests but when it came to wedding day none of that was done. When i sent in my review all they did was tell me i should have had a day of coordinator. Even when they listed these items in “hotel will provide” the day of contract person,Zachary. (Well our 4th one from signing the contract since it doesnt seem like they can keep someone on staff unfortunately.) decided he would not be in attendance for our wedding which he told us at the rehearsal the day before. Our contact person would be the banquet manager, Jose. Jose also had another event at the same time in the other hall so he was not even available for our 3pm wedding since that event went until 5pm. When working with my photographer and MOH he proceeded to yell at them that he wasnt in charge of weddings and it wasnt his job. The front desk also didnt even know a wedding was happening as they sent 5 guests to the wrong event. The valet didnt know it was happening as they charged myself and my guests incorrectly. There were no signs pointing for the wedding as we had seen for other weddings when we visited. We had to have the groomsman with handwritten pieces of paper directing guests. No one from the Viking to be seen until Linda arrived and started printing signs and doing anything possible she could to assist. She was truly the only bright spot
The month leading up to the wedding planning consisted me emailing Zachary for updates with no answers or replies. It would take a minimum of 2 weeks to answer and it would always be that day at 5pm so even if I answered instantly no reply after. He had deadlines for when timelines would be due but he missed every one of them. And i was just left waiting. No apologies were given just that he was busy with the current wedding. He would not read any notes or items we would discuss and I would find myself repeating over and over. Also things we had discussed and agreed like the menu when I would point out things were missing it was now an additional cost. Or fees were not included in the minimum as they had been with other planners, they would honor this “Atypical request” as a 1 time courtesy.
But then my wedding week he couldnt even help or even attend so it was just an excuse to be poor at responding Then obviously Zachary still use whatever discount the hotel gives him to hang out with his family because he didnt even have the decency to avoid for the day or even the few hours while my girls & I were running around.
Wedding day cocktail hour we arrived the space wasnt blocked off so hotel guests were there in the area. There was no assistance for the ADA guests, no coat rack for coats & only 1 bartender. All items that had been discussed with concerns i had. Jose did eventually get a second person for the bar but not until the line was out the door around the corner and i had to tell him we paid for 2 where is the other person. I addressed this with the viking in my event review & Zachary told me there was 2 to which i replied theres about 100+ people who can tell you otherwise & pictures & how would you even know you werent there.
The food was delicious all around best part about the viking was the food. Everyone was thrilled with that.
The banquet buffet there was no one there to host it or help guests or even instruct that both sides were the same.
The only complaint there with the buffet & cake is they cleared everything away so soon. You would go to dance & your cake would be gone. Even mine as the bride.
When i was checking out i cried to the front desk and Christy was so sweet & kind she made a note for the manager to call me and gave my moh his card.
Calls & emails have not been unreturned.
As soon as my husband and I drove up to Hotel Viking for our first tour, we knew we found our wedding venue! The building is an absolute Newport icon and absolutely breathtaking.
Linda, our awesome event planner, made us feel so comfortable during the entire wedding process and is incredibly kind! We loved working with her throughout our entire engagement.
The food was delicious, the staff was so kind, the Hotel is absolutely beautiful and we loved having our ceremony right at the historic Kay Chapel! Our wedding day was perfect and Hotel Viking was the perfect place to have it! Highly recommend!
We had our wedding at Hotel Viking and from start to finish, everyone involved was super helpful and attentive, especially Linda. Our big day felt so special and we could not have chosen a better venue for a winter wedding. We had our ceremony at Kay Chapel and the proximity to Hotel Viking added such value, we received so many compliments from the guests about this too. We always knew we wanted our wedding to be in Newport and at Kay Chapel and Hotel Viking, you definitely get that historic charm. Since these places were so naturally pretty, we didn’t need to go over the top with decor.
The food & drinks at the hotel were absolutely delicious. They had plenty of options for everyone and were super accommodating for guests that had allergies.
All in all, we had our dream wedding at Hotel Viking and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else looking to get married in Newport. I cannot compliment the staff enough from to the valet staff to the front desk associates, and everyone in between.
My husband and I were so very thrilled by the team at Hotel Viking! First, Linda was a joy to work with. She was professional, kind, and honestly felt like family. The team helped us feel comfortable and answered all of our questions and made sure we had what we needed to make our day truly special. Second, the venue was stunning! Having our wedding at the hotel was easy for our guests, and incredibly special for us. From gorgeous photo opportunities, to just having all things ready and at your finger tips, it made for a memorable day and for simple logistics. We loved the romantic feel of the Kay Chapel, the upscale feel of the Viking Ballroom, and the boutique feel of the hotel. Lastly, the food was amazing! The chef was very responsive to our suggestions during the tastings, and helped us build a menu that made our day feel extra special. We look back at our wedding day as truly one of the happiest days of our lives, and are so grateful to Linda and the team for making it all possible. We highly recommend Hotel Viking to anyone else considering a venue that really goes the extra mile to help you make the day special, and for a place that will be beautiful for you and for your guests!
The location is great and the venue is beautiful. The food was not as great during the wedding. Food was cold, not prepared well, and even the salad was terrible. I wish there would of been more communication on where to go etc
Wow, what a great experience from start to finish! We’re so glad we chose to host our wedding at Hotel Viking. Everyone at Hotel Viking was respectful, kind, and professional with every interaction. We held our wedding ceremony in Kay Chapel, which is a nondenominational chapel now owned by the hotel. It was beautiful. We then had our cocktail hour in the Thames Room and our reception in Bellevue Ballroom. Linda from Hotel Viking answered every question, accommodated every special request, and supported us the whole way through. As I was getting ready to walk down the aisle, I was psyched to have her nearby. All of our guests LOVED the food and expressed that the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They made sure my sister had everything she needed with her toddler and they accommodate dogs, so guests didn't have to worry about pet care while attending our wedding. My husband and I had a blast and felt like it was truly our dream wedding. Guests had a blast, too. The bridal party had an enormous suite to get ready in and it allowed the hair and makeup to spread out and still left room for the girls to gather, take photos, eat, drink, and lounge. Thank you for a great experience Hotel Viking!
The day we toured Hotel Viking, we knew it was the perfect spot for our wedding. Everyone at Hotel Viking was so kind, patient, responsive, and professional. Throughout the entire wedding process, Jordan (Hotel Viking’s Event Coordinator) was extremely communicative, organized, and helpful. She answered every question of ours in a timely and professional manner. She made us feel valued and heard. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect because of the staff at Hotel Viking. The food was also spectacular and we enjoyed dancing the night away in the Viking Ballroom. We highly recommend Hotel Viking for all weddings and events!
Words can't describe how amazing The Hotel Viking was for a wedding venue. Everything from the food to the atmosphere made for a weekend that was better than we could have ever imagined. When the weather appeared to be unseasonably warm during our November wedding, the event team let us move the cocktail hour to the courtyard making for an extra special experience. Linda and the team were extremely accommodating both leading up to the wedding and throughout the weekend. Additional kudos to the culinary team and the bartenders for making the cocktail hour/reception perfect.
The Hotel Viking was an absolute dream! Throughout every part of the process, the staff went above and beyond to make our day special! Linda started out as our coordinator, and she was nothing but a class act. She’s a calming presence, and she was able to answer all of our questions (usually same day or next day!) Jordan took over as coordinator for the week of our wedding, and her professionalism not only met but exceeded our expectations! The front desk staff and valets were always friendly and welcoming. Chef Kevin’s food is unbelievably delicious! They also have immensely talented bartenders (big shoutout to Laura!) Kay Chapel is what initially drew me to the venue. It’s just as magical in person as it is in photos, and the Bellevue Ballroom gave us all of the classic Newport elegance! I could go on and on, but I’ll end with this: if you’re thinking about booking Hotel Viking for your wedding venue, you won’t regret it!
Great location, service, food, and coordination from Linda Ferguson. The hotel rooms are nice to stay and the rooftop bar is great to enjoy in the spring/summer/early fall.
From the moment we pulled up to Hotel Viking my fiancé and I fell in love. We were so impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism we experienced with the staff from our tour through checking out after our Wedding. Linda was amazing to work with and made the planning process feel effortless. She was extremely accommodating to any of our needs and requests for our day and helped bring our dream Wedding to life. We had our reception in the Viking Ballroom and held an after wedding bunch in the Thames room. The food was amazing and hospitality was exceptional. The staff were very attentive from the moment we checked in for the weekend and made sure everything was executed flawlessly. I highly recommend Hotel Viking to any couples looking for a romantic, historic, all in one venue.
We had the most beautiful wedding at Hotel Viking! The entire staff was wonderful to work with, especially the on-site wedding coordinators Linda and Jordan. They were amazing to work with and so very helpful and accommodating every step of the way. We are abundantly happy and thankful that we chose Hotel Viking for our special day!
Our daughters wedding was last week at the Viking hotel and Kay chapel in Newport Rhode Island. I 100% would recommend the Viking hotel they were wonderful to work with Linda was amazing the staff, Hotel venue, everything came together and it was absolutely beautiful, exquisite! Thank you you all for helping to make such wonderful memories for Leah and Liang!
Linda was amazing! The day was beyond my expectations, I self admittedly was not the most organized bride! But Linda helped to get everything in order. It really was a magical day, especially in the courtyard with the twinkling lights and fire pits for our cocktail reception. Hotel Viking (and Newport) will always be a special place for us!
The evening before my daughter’s wedding, we hosted a welcome reception for family and friends in the Viking’s lovely lower courtyard. It was a smashing success – in no small part due to the exemplary planning process with Linda Ferguson, the Viking Wedding and Event Sales Manager. Linda is lovely, very responsive and a wonderfully clear communicator; working with her was a pleasure.
The courtyard is a beautiful, relaxed and festive setting, where all our guests felt very comfortable and welcome. We chose to serve a “street taco” buffet which included lots of generous garnishes with homemade cookies for dessert. The food and drinks were a huge hit with all – truly excellent quality! In all ways, it was a perfect venue for folks to meet and get to know each other a bit before the “big day”.
To top it all off, my daughter and I each received a thoughtful gift bag from Linda with treats and memories of Newport. Many thanks to Linda and the Viking for making a very special wedding welcome party – it was a wedding weekend highlight!
Our wedding at Hotel Viking was absolutely beyond what we had hoped it would be! Linda and everyone involved made sure everything was handled just as we wanted. They were responsive, courteous, and absolute professionals at every step of the way. We particularly appreciated how they honored their word despite some COVID scheduling hiccups the year before and how they worked with us to accommodate changing plans. On top of all that, they were a GREAT deal financially. We cannot recommend them enough.
Hotel Viking was the perfect venue for our wedding. The location is fantastic, the recent renovations looked great, and we cannot say enough about how much we loved the chapel. It made for the perfect one-stop-shop we were going for: our guests could stay on-site, walk across the street for the ceremony, and come right back for the cocktail hour and reception, all with an elegant backdrop.
Due to the pandemic, we had to postpone two times, but Linda and the hotel staff were very accommodating and wonderful to work with. We are very grateful for the flexibility and were able to have the wedding we dreamed of with all our friends and family.
Everything was perfect at the Hotel Viking for our wedding. The hotel is amazing and the Bellevue Ballroom was beautiful and elegant. From check in to check out the staff was very friendly and professional. Our guests had such a wonderful time and we couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our wedding. Ms. Ferguson is the wedding coordinator and she did an excellent job communicating with us and making sure our big day went smoothly. We are very thankful for her help and all of the great services at the Hotel Viking.
Linda and the rest of the staff at Hotel Viking worked very hard to make our day special. We had a year delay due to covid and we needed a lot of attention near the event to make sure our group could be safely accommodated. Kay Chapel looked lovely and Linda’s recommendation for DJ worked out great. Our special day went very well! Everyone had a great time.
Linda was absolutely amazing! She was so helpful, answered all our questions and was so accommodating as we navigated planning a Covid wedding! Hotel viking was beautiful and the food was fabulous!
I am sooooo glad we decided to go with Hotel Viking!!! Linda and the team at the hotel just did the best job ever with the day. They accommodated everything we wanted for the day, were so sweet with all of my (likely annoying) requests, and just executed so perfectly on everything. I cannot get over it, it was all a dream come true. I also wasn’t completely sure about it when Linda said they didn’t require wedding coordinators (or find them very necessary at all) and that she would take care of all of the day of stuff for us, but it was so true. She took care of every last detail and it just couldn’t have gone better. I also just loved how friendly the front desk staff was with our guests and us throughout the whole weekend. It was beyond amazing and I am so grateful for the whole team! The food was also delicious, we all know wedding food gets a bad rap as being very “meh” but people raved about their meals and our apps! And the bartenders!!! Oh my gosh they prepared anything guests wanted, I have never been to a wedding where espresso martinis were servers but they did here! I was just as surprised as my guests but so excited to see how accommodating they were with those crazy requests!!! The bartenders (I am blanking on their names!!) but they were just so so nice and friendly in addition to the great service/cocktails. The waitstaff was also soooo friendly! And as an added bonus, they were also really reasonably priced compared to other area venues… Highly recommend planning your Newport wedding here.
We had our ceremony this weekend at Kay Chapel and could not be happier. Linda is fantastic. She’s so responsive to all emails throughout the planning process. Our ceremony was a huge success and she was so kind and organized. Kay Chapel is also gorgeous inside. Perfect venue!
Loved having all of our events as well as guests stay on site. The chapel is beautiful and our cocktail hour in the courtyard was so nice. The staff handled all coordination day of and we didn't have to worry about a thing!
We are so happy that we chose Hotel Viking / Kay Chapel for our wedding ceremony and reception. Linda Ferguson was an tremendous help during the final phases of planning, and especially on the day of! She was a calming presence, and took away any stress and worry we could possibly feel. We had so many guests compliment us on the service and attention from all of the waitstaff during the reception - food and drink was all just delicious and perfect! The beauty of the venue speaks for itself - Kay Chapel was perfect in making our guest list of almost 200 people feel intimate and close. The entire day and night went so smoothly thanks to all of the staff at Hotel Viking.
We held our ceremony at Kay Chapel and our reception at Hotel Viking in the downstairs ballroom and both are absolutely gorgeous!
Hotel Viking gives you a day of coordinator which is nice as well.
From a brides point of view communication was very tough the weeks prior to our big day as we would sometimes wait days or even a week or so for a response from our coordinator, but day of she was helpful.
We also stayed at the hotel as well and the room was very nice-however it could have just been our luck but we found a half eaten apple on our floor and a pair of dirty socks on our mini fridge (pretty gross) but we didn’t let it ruin our time.
The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception areas were all soo beautifully set up (thank you so much to the team at the Viking that helped with this- you guys are amazing!)
We did have a little mishap during our cocktail hour and reception we had hotel guests in their bathing suits walking through our cocktail hour (which was downstairs in the “private” area we had reserved) and then again standing at the door of our reception until one of my husband’s groomsmen had to do the work of asking them to move along.
The food is sooo delicious we had so many compliments from everyone on the appetizers and the meals!
One of the girls on the catering staff came up to us at the end of the night to give us a framed picture of Batman and Catwoman personalized with our names that she had made for us after finding out that my husband is a huge Batman fan! I couldn’t believe it it was so nice of her and it came out amazing!!
Out of all the pros and cons we still wouldn’t have chose a different place to get married ❤️
First and foremost let me say that our day was beautiful, and the employees (special shout out to Carlington!) who served us that night, as well as the valet staff, were EXCEPTIONAL.
Management, however, is an entirely different story. Our coordinator was switched 3/4 of the way through the process, and while our second coordinator, Linda, was good, she ruffled my husbands feathers more than once throughout the process. She approached both of us, separately, lamenting that there had been complaints of our dog barking in our suite (its a dog friendly hotel). Not only did I immediately go to the room to bring him down to the reception to address it, she felt the need to reiterate to my husband later. It seemed incredibly tone-deaf; they placed us directly outside of the elevator and Top of Newport bar in one of their lowest level suites; of course that much activity, drunk people, and live music right outside the door would stir him up. It was poor planning on their end. In addition, my husband multiple times had to ask her what the point of their conversation was as we were interrupted through the night. She even told me that they don't typically make my favorite drink, but they certainly can, but "just in case I'd like anything else." If you can do it and the bride and groom requested it, why even mention it??
The room block was quite the headache. After finding rooms online for significantly cheaper than what was being offered to our guests, we had to fight tooth and nail to get our guests a fair rate (though in the end, Julie became quite helpful). The general manager, Mark, was completely non-responsive to both calls and emails to the point that I needed to find out the owner's of the hotel to contact them directly (Davidson Hotels, out of Georgia - Erin was very helpful). My husband and I almost took a day out of work to go in person and demand to speak with him.
While at the end of the day, we had a beautiful night, it was solely due to people like Carlington, going above and beyond to make our night easy and wonderful. The service staff there is truly superb, cannot recommend them enough. If you can deal with management long enough to get to the day of, that staff with come through for you tenfold. I can't say enough, it was the best day of our lives; it just could have been much better with more thoughtful management.
We had our wedding at the hotel Viking end of April and could not have been happier. Linda was amazing to work with, and everything from our first venue visit to our wedding day went well. Linda was very accommodating and helped create a custom package that suited our needs and budget. She was attentive through the planning process and the wedding weekend.
From the very first message to Hotel Viking as a vendor, I knew I was going to want them. I sent the request for information through wedding wire and Nancy with Hotel Viking responded right away with details of the hotels history and pictures of their spaces and the wedding package and menu options. I liked that they gave us all the information up front rather than having to ask for it in pieces. Then when we went for a tour the employees were friendly and prompt and they had drinks and an appetizer for us to try!! It was an experience like no other, they truly wanted us there. The spaces were beautiful, they have several options to suit any size, and they also have the beautiful Kay Chapel on property, so if you want a classic feel but nondenominational this was perfect! The hotel staff made sure to keep in touch anytime there were further details we needed to be filling out, so I didn't have to worry about forgetting something, and they were very responsive when I had questions. They did a good job coordinating with my other vendors to make sure everything went smoothly. The staff in charge of the day made sure to introduce themselves to me and let me know they were taking care of things. It was perfect and beautiful. They have also been renovating the hotel so things are a little newer while keeping the historic charm, they have some rooms that are now pet friendly.
Nancy and the team at Hotel Viking made my wedding venue experience truly amazing. Nancy is such a joy to work with, so knowledgeable, organized and a wedding coordinating WIZ! She gave us flexible packages and provided every opportunity to customize and personalize according to our vision. Thank you, Hotel Viking, for being our DREAM wedding venue!
Eveything at the Hotel Viking was amazing. I planned the whole wedding from out of state and was blown away by the execution. Linda was a pleasure to work with. I was especially pleased that the chef was able to make my entire clam bake gluten free (including the Mac and cheese).
We had our wedding reception at the Hotel Viking in June 2018 and had an amazing experience! Nancy, the event sales manager, is great to work with!
For Newport, the Viking is a good value. It is really nice that the Viking provides the catering, chairs, linens, candles, etc., and our package even included the cake! The bride and groom also get to stay at the hotel that night as part of the package. We had friends who got married around the same time, and they had to find each individual piece- a bakery, a caterer, and had to pay additionally for chairs and tables at their venue. The Viking packages it all together and makes it SO MUCH EASIER! The Viking has a wide variety to choose from and you can customize your day to make it your own.
We selected the Viking Ballroom, on the lower level. We had our own kitchen, restrooms, and were further away from the main hotel traffic. It rained earlier in the day, so we couldn’t use the outside patio for cocktail hour, and instead used the hallway, which worked great! The rain cleared up and we still used the patio’s fire pits and we provided s’mores materials for guests. Moreover, the food for our wedding was delicious!! Highly, highly recommend the Hotel Viking!!!
Most Amazing service and all we could have asked for! Nancy and her team truly made our special day unforgettable and amazing. From the first meeting of the venue tour to our actual wedding day a bit more than two weeks ago Nancy from the events Team was fantastic, professional and very accommodating. it was a pleasure working with her and the entire team of the Hotel and we can highly recommend not only the venue which was beautiful but also the food which was delicious and again Nancy who was just amazing. beautiful and happy memories that will last forever
My husband and I got married at Kay Chapel this past winter and I wouldn't have changed a single thing about it. Linda from Hotel Viking was so easy to communicate with and made sure everything was perfect! The chapel has some modern amenities while maintaining the charm of a classic New England chapel. The exposed wood beams and the natural light during the day really make the room pop and made for amazing pictures and memories. We didn't have our reception at Hotel Viking but I have no doubt that the service and quality would be amazing there as well!
My Husband Matt and I just got married at hotel viking in November. Everything was perfect! We held our ceremony at the Kay Chapel which is located right next to the hotel, which made it very convenient for all of our guests. I loved that everything was all in one place. Our wedding coordinator Nancy was fabulous. She was so helpful from the tour to our wedding day, she answered any and all questions that we had. All of the staff at the Viking was so attentive. We got married thanksgiving weekend so the hotel was decorated for Christmas and it was so beautiful. I highly recommend booking the Viking for your Newport wedding!
We had our wedding reception here on June 24, 2017 and it was an absolute nightmare. We met with Nancy months in advance to plan out every detail and nothing was followed. We got to the reception about half an hour late due to severe rain during our outdoor ceremony and wanted to take pictures late into cocktail hour. Nancy told me that we couldn't because we needed to stay on schedule then made us wait ~25 minutes before we could do the entrances. We had food for favors and we specifically stated that we wanted the favors put out on the table by the door after dessert, but when we walked in we noticed the favors were placed on each setting and our guests had dug into those instead of the appetizers. Throughout the reception we noticed things were blatantly different than we had agreed upon, but the worst part was when they served dessert before we even cut the cake. This left me very upset and instead of apologizing Nancy told me "well we never discussed when dessert would be served." For someone who has been doing this 10+ years, this was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. The hotel sent a survey after the event to see how it went and I was honest on it and we were never contacted with an apology. The only silver lining is that the food was delicious, and our guests still talk about how good the food was.
Our wedding at the Viking was a dream come true. The gorgeous ballroom, excellent food, timeless atmosphere. I couldnt be happier with how our wedding turned out!
My husband and I got married in May 2017 at Hotel Viking and had a great experience! We worked with Nancy, who was very organized and supportive, and helped make everything come together. Her ability to keep everyone calm and everything in control on the big day is amazing!! She was very easy to work with, and helped us figure out the best way to stay close to our budget, with cutting some things and adding others.
We had our ceremony in Kay chapel, which was beautiful and fit our 120 guests nicely, cocktail hour outside on the patio, and the reception in the Viking Ballroom. The food was great, as was the service and presentation of everything. We could not be more happy with our choice to get married there.
The only thing I would note is that the event coordinating group and hotel room block group do not function the same way. We had no issues with event coordination at all, and highly recommend Nancy, but did have frustrations getting the room blocks, and making reservations in the blocks. We also had an issue which was later resolved, where I was told I could not get into the bridal suite until 4 pm, the day of the ceremony. I ended up paying to stay there on the Friday night before my wedding, but this is something to keep in mind and ask about. There is a free room included the night of the wedding, but if you are planning to get ready in the room as I was, you will likely need to pay for one night there also.
We didn't have our wedding at the Viking, but we did stay here for a romantic pre-honeymoon getaway! It's adorable! I love the old-world charm. It really feels like you're taking a trip to the Newport of the Jazz Age. Definitely stay for brunch!
The Hotel Viking was the third wedding venue my fiancé and I went to see, and immediately something just felt right. First, Linda Ferguson was welcoming, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Throughout the entire tour she was helpful but never pushy, she knew the venue would speak for itself. A few days following the tour of the Viking my fiancé and I booked our wedding reception with the ceremony at the Kay Chapel.
The planning process was seamless. Linda answered every question I had quickly and completely, making suggestions along the way. I loved that the Viking really caters to what you envision your wedding day to be. Linda always told us what was offered, but always mentioned that we could modify to suit what we wanted (from where the bar is located in cocktail hour to what side is served with an entree).
The food, service, and attention to detail at the Viking was impeccable. Following the wedding so many of my guests came up to me to tell me how much they loved our venue, charming chapel, and delicious food!
I truly could go on and on (if space allowed) about how great my experience was with the Viking, and especially Linda! (I knew that if Linda was involved with something, it was going to be perfect.) There is not a single thing I would change about my experience at the Viking and Kay Chapel! I highly recommend giving the Hotel Viking a look if you are searching for the perfect venue!
We had our wedding at Hotel Viking on Dec 31, 2016. Everything went very smoothly from the very beginning of the process to the end, and exceeded our expectations. The process of organizing the event was laid out to us when we booked the venue. We worked with Nancy Rusiloski - who I can't say enough good things about! She made the wedding day as stress-free as possible. I completely trusted her and her team to do the set-up and she did not disappoint.
The food was absolutely amazing, and all our guests raved about it!
I would highly recommend a wedding at Hotel Viking, and I am already looking forward to going back to visit.
Also - the Kay Chapel was the perfect ceremony venue!
We LOVED our wedding at The Hotel Viking! The classic hotel and the adorable Kay Chapel were perfect for our big day. Our guests loved that everything was at the same location, and it made the planning process so much easier, as well. Nancy helped with all of the details, and is so kind, flexible and organized. The food was delicious, and the staff so friendly and professional. Newport, RI is a wonderful place to get married, and The Hotel Viking gave us beautiful memories for our wedding day. Thank you!
I chose the Viking Ballroom at the Hotel Viking for my wedding reception and it was definitely one of the best wedding planning choices I made. All the staff went above and beyond to make my life easier. In the months before the big day I emailed the wedding coordinator, Linda, and she answered all my questions and then some. The food was delicious! And they make the food tasting experience for you and your loved ones so special. The ballroom was gorgeous and guests really enjoyed having the outside space to take a cool break from dancing. It was simply elegant and the perfect place. The guests all commented on the beautiful guest rooms and great location right in the heart of Newport. I am so glad I chose the Viking, it was the perfect night and cherished memories I will have forever! Thank you Linda for all your help and a huge thank you to you are your team for making our wedding day perfect.
Our rehearsal dinner was absolutely magical and beautiful! We had a cocktail hour in the courtyard with fire pits and gorgeous lighting, then moved inside for an absolutely delicious dinner (all with the best drinks!) I cannot say enough great things about the entire experience! It was a BEAUTIFUL venue, fantastic service, delicious food, great drinks and very reasonably priced! Linda was by my side every step of the way and made the entire planning process incredibly easy. She was so helpful and attentive, as was everyone on service. All of our guests raved about how truly wonderful our rehearsal dinner was. Everything was flawless! Highly recommend this location for a wedding or rehearsal dinner!
On your wedding day, the last thing you want to do is worry about the details of a smoothly orchestrated day. The staff at Hotel Viking does ALL of that for you. We met with Nancy, the head organizer, a year in advance, and continued to meet with her for food tastings, and various details up to the actual wedding, and we've had a chance to meet with her since. She is the BEST in the business. Hotel Viking is a historic venue in an internationally historic town, Newport...it has the class and elegance that you would expect. It was so convenient to have our out-of-town guests stay at the Viking for the weekend, as we had not only our reception here (in the Bellevue Room) but also the family breakfast for the morning after the wedding. Back to Nancy...we'd ask for references for other vendors, and took her suggestions for best photographer, flowers, and wedding cake, and were very pleased with all. Our food tasting for the reception (done 6 most in advance) was such a pleasant experience, and the actual food for the wedding was top notch (including cocktail hour). Nothing went wrong. Nothing was forgotten, overlooked, or changed from our original requests. If we were to do it all over again, my husband and I would still choose the Hotel Viking, without question.
I can not say enough about the Hotel Viking! The Kay Chapel was absolutely gorgeous, the food was above and beyond my expectations (every tenderloin serve a perfect medium for roughly 60 guests) and Nancy (the coordinator) couldn't have been more helpful. Every decision was made with ease and every part of the day felt like "old new england". Beautiful hotel with excellent food and a chapel that could be straight out of a fairy tale.
The Hotel Viking is a pretty setting for a wedding and will work with a range of budgets. Linda was excellent to work with; very helpful, diligent and detail oriented. The staff worked hard to make sure everything ran smoothly. The hotel has some great decor (a 20's vibe, with lots of royal blue). Kay Chapel is an excellent option for a ceremony; it was gorgeous and right next to the hotel. We were very happy with our choice!
I chose the Hotel Viking for my wedding reception and it was definitely one of the best wedding planning choices I made. All the staff went above and beyond to make my life easier. In the months before the big day I emailed the wedding coordinator weekly and she answered all my questions and then some. The food was delicious! Guests raved about the lobster bisque. The ballroom was gorgeous and guests really enjoyed having the outside space to take a cool break from dancing. With our 10k budget and 109 attendees, we were able to have cheese and cracker cocktail hour with signature mock-tail, soup, salad, 3 dinner entrees, dessert and a bartender all night in the ballroom. The guests all commented on the beautiful guest rooms and great location right in the heart of Newport. I am so glad I chose the Viking!
Beautiful place!
I was looking for an elegant and historic venue and there is no mistaking that the Hotel Viking is the perfect place. The staff was so helpful and pleasant, we received little perks that just made the weekend that much better. Linda was a great coordinator, another reason we chose a hotel was so we wouldn't have to do the work of bringing so many things together, she made everything so easy. A wedding is pricey but the value is unmistakable.
It really was the perfect wedding weekend! Our ceremony was held at Kay Chapel, our cocktail hour was in the courtyard (thank god for warm September weather) and our reception was in the Viking Ballroom (downstairs). We also hosted a breakfast Sunday morning in the courtyard for our guests that stayed in the hotel.
I really loved the overall experience and style of the Hotel Viking, it definitely has an intimate, classy and charming feel to it, which was a perfect fit for our wedding.
Kay Chapel is simple and elegant, certainly a gem! Our guests also loved that it was a short walk from the Chapel to the Hotel for the cocktail hour/reception (no need to get back in the car). The cocktail hour was really nice, we had rented white lanterns from our florist, and he placed them throughout the courtyard. They looked lovely! The ballroom looked beautiful, the food was excellent (I received many compliments from our guests), and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Our waiter came over to us many times during the evening to see if he could get us anything else.
I worked with Linda Ferguson at the Hotel Viking, and she was a pleasure to work with. She was very helpful throughout the planning process, very responsive to my many, many questions, and certainly accommodating. The day before our wedding, our wedding day and at our Sunday breakfast, Linda checked in with us to ensure everything was going well. She goes out of her way, to make sure everything goes well.
Overall, our experience with the Hotel Viking was PERFECT…. I wouldn't have changed a thing. We had such a nice and fun weekend, certainly a time to remember!!!
We were married at Kay Chapel this past month and had a wonderful experience! Linda Ferguson was always very responsive to my emails and was so helpful throughout the process, especially for the rehearsal and day of! Kay Chapel is beautiful and really requires minimal decorations because of the architecture inside. We also stayed at the Viking Hotel the night before and night of, which was awesome for getting ready the day of. Overall, I would defiantly recommend Kay Chapel for your wedding ceremony. It is expensive, but totally worth it!
From the very beginning the Viking was so courteous and helpful. They helped create an amazing night with us down to every last detail and helped it all fit with in our budget. The planner was amazing and the staff that night was so helpful and polite.
Everything was perfect
beautiful hotel
We had chosen the Hotel Viking for our accommodations and well as our guests for our wedding weekend. I was disappointed with the price and quality of accommodations at our venue (OceanCliff) so decided to stay elsewhere. The staff was very responsive when discussing and setting up the room blocks, so no complaints there. But in the end, it was a decent choice given what we were looking for but definitely have some complaints based on the price. I was expecting my husband and I to get upgraded to a nicer suite from the one we had reserved or to receive some type of "gift" for it being our wedding and for bringing in a bunch of guests to stay. No upgrade, no champagne - nothing. Ok whatever, they have no obligation to do so but most nice hotels in general usually do something. Also, guest accommodations varied in quality depending on whether they were in the historic or new wing. Based on my visits to the various rooms, the historic wing seemed to have better rooms than the new wing (better bathrooms, better furnishings). Given my guests paid the same price for the "same" room, I was disappointed there seemed to be noticeably varying quality levels. The new wing seems to be from the 70s and they've put "lipstick on a pig" so to speak (you can tell they've tried to mask with furnishings and wall paper a not really upgraded wing). They charge to deliver guest bags ($3/bag) and the parking price is OUTRAGEOUS ($30/night), especially since it's not even really in downtown Newport. I would suggest street parking if possible but that can be tricky. You can valet or self park for the same price. Definitely self park in the lot right across the street because there were times that the valet didn't get our car for 10-15 minutes (sometimes there was no one there to ask to get our car). The fire alarm also went off the morning of my wedding, causing us to have to evacuate (I was getting ready in my robe with hot rollers in my hair). This was horrible and upsetting - possibly out of people's control but not a good experience. I'm torn on whether to give three or four stars because I was expecting more from this level/class of hotel. We went out of our way to try and find better accommodations, which cost us more and created logistic issues (OceanCliff would've comp'd our room and we had to get transportation for ourselves and guests to get people to the reception and back to Viking). In the end, I'm not sure it was worth it. We definitely had a nice stay, it's just I was expecting a lot more for the price. If I had to do it again, I would look into other options (Chanler at Cliffwalk, Vanderbilt Grace) to see if those would have been better.
My husband and I were married in Newport, Rhode Island on April 27, 2013. We worked with Linda Ferguson to coordinate our guest accommodations, ceremony and reception at Hotel Viking. Linda is very dedicated and professional. She was always available to talk with us and responded quickly to our every question and need. Everything about Hotel Viking is classic and elegant. Our guests had a wonderful time staying there. Everyone LOVED the food for the cocktail hour and dinner! We added on to the packaged cocktail hour which is described as quaint. We had a wonderful wedding weekend at Hotel Viking!
We were married in April at the Kay Chapel, with our cocktail hour in the Colonade Room and the reception in the Bellevue Room. The Kay Chapel is a 'hidden gem' in Newport. We loved the beautiful simplicity of Kay Chapel. Given the Chapel has been around since the 1800s, it is in pristine condition! The Colonade and Bellevue were both very nice and functional for our party. The decor of both rooms could stand to be updated, especially since the hotel rooms are beautifully renovated and updated. However, both function rooms are elegant and very functional for a party!
We had the pleasure of working with Linda Ferguson at The Viking. She is experienced and knowledgable - not afraid to provide us suggestions or recommendations as we went through the planning process. She has a calm, relaxed demeanor and good sense of humor. We were so happy we selected The Hotel Viking has our wedding venue!
Beautiful venue......professional and very caring staff. Most considerate and attentive to your every need. Food was amazing and in abundance
The Kay Chapel was a great spot for the ceremony, beautiful and simple, fit just over 150 people very comfortably. Linda Ferguson was our contact and she was great to work with, very responsive and helpful.
I was married on July 22, 2012. The ceremony was held at the Kay Chapel and reception was at the Bellevue Ballroom. The chapel was renovated but kept the vintage (not "old") and classy feelings which were perfect for my wedding, or any wedding in Newport. The decor in the chapel is simple and elegant. I didn't have to add in too much additional touch and it was perfect. Similar to the chapel, the hotel also was renovated but kept the vintage and classy decors. It feels just right. The food was excellent. There were so many options that we could choose from. My father-in-law is a picky eater and he LOVED it! All my guests still rave about it today. The staffs were very nice and they did a great job! I have to give a special shout to our catering manager, Linda Ferguson. She is the best! I had visited a few venues in the Newport area before came to the Viking. None of the coordinators came even close to Linda. She is so attentive since day one. She really put her heart into the wedding. Throughout the entire process, Linda was also very responsive and accommodating. She paid attention to what we said and gave us many good ideas. Linda made sure every detail was just the way we wanted. On the wedding day, Linda constant checked in with us to ensure everything was going well.
Overall, our experience with the Hotel Viking was great and we were glad we chose this venue. I definitely will recommend to other brides.
