They did an amazing job and were super easy to work with!
Dorothy from Hyatt Place was soo wonderful, sweet and helpful. The hotel really made everyone feel welcome and their shuttle service was spectacular for all our out of town guests that needed to get around! The hotel is also new, modern and has an amazing hot breakfast!
Most of my family stayed at the Hyatt Place Des Moines, and everyone was very happy with it. It's in a very central location (though the neighborhood is kind of empty in the evenings, it's only a couple blocks from everything.) Their service was excellent- they shuttled everyone to and from the airport, to and from the ceremony, and to and from the reception. They also let us hang out and have a pizza party in their dining space the night before the festivities, which was very nice because the elevator in our apartment building broke down and we couldn't get all the guests up to the 5th floor.
The Hyatt DSM opened approximately 6 months before my wedding. I had met with one of their coordinators at one of the bridal fairs and we had gone down to check out the location. The coordinator at the time had been very nice and we were pretty impressed with the hotel's comfy beds and nicely laid out rooms. The downfall came after we had signed the contract for the room block. The place started going through coordinators like water. I kept checking in to make sure everything was okay and that we had enough rooms, but by the time my wedding arrived, i was on my 5th coordinator, and none of the coordinators along the had written notes about what we had discussed in the computer and everything was a mess. My room "block" didn't end up being a block at all. All of my guests were scattered across different floors. When we arrived to check in, some of our guests were also attempting to check into their rooms that they had booked 3-4 months prior. Instead of getting the rooms that they had actually booked (a room with two queens), the hotel had switched them to a king only room instead - without informing them. Unfortunately they had requested a queen/queen because of the number of people they had and so that arrangement was unacceptable. The hotel had completely sold out for the weekend due to all the events coming into town and wouldn't do anything for my guests. When my guests complained the GM told them that only kings were in the contract (they weren't. i wish i had had a copy of the contract with me at the time but i unfortunately did not). When we went to check into our own room (which was supposed to have been complementary upgraded from a regular room to a suite), we had only been given a regular room. Again, the hotel was sold out and offered little in return. I've been to many hyatts, but i'm flat out disappointed in this one - especially since it's the first one in iowa and should have been flagship of customer service instead of the mess that it is. It's a nice place to stay, but i would have never ever use them for a room block had i known the issues that were going to come up.
