As the owner of Splashes of Time Photography (splashesoftime.com) I must say I love photographing weddings at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. The venue is beautiful and their team is amazing. So many great photo locations. I highly recommend!
We were very excited about this venue and were getting forward to move to contract. However Hailey did not notify us that there was another interested party for our date and she went ahead signed a contract with the other party. As the first interested party, we have the right of first refusal and should have been promptly made aware if there was another group also looking at the same date. This venue lacks transparency and is extremely unprofessional. Very disappointing.
A beautiful place that spoke to us from the moment we saw it. Ashley Basurto is an absolute queen. She was kind and caring, and loves what she does and it shines through. She took care of us and made sure we achieved our exact wedding vision. She answered each and every one of our questions and was very professional and reassuring. She went above and beyond to make our day everything we wanted and more. Chef and all the members of her team and staff also made us feel like family and really put heart into everything they did for us from the delicious food and service to our rooms and beyond. Thank you to Ashley and her team and staff at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach for making our wedding day the best day of our lives .
Any questions?
My wife and I could not have been happier to choose the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach as our wedding ceremony and reception venue. The hotel is beautiful, the staff was highly professional, and communication was excellent! The day my wife and I went to first look at the venue, it was actually raining! Despite the weather, the way we were treated by the staff and their patience with us through all of our questions made choosing them as our wedding venue an easy decision.
Having our wedding at a hotel was a great decision! One great thing about choosing a hotel as the wedding venue was that everything was all in one location. Most of my family had to travel in for the wedding. It was great having them stay at the property so that we could spend as much time together as possible! Not only that, the Hyatt staff went above and beyond with service like special requests for certain rooms for family members, storing some of our wedding supplies a few days prior to the wedding, and allowing us to put our own personal touches on the ceremony and reception.
The food was amazing, the location was beautiful, and overall it was a great experience! We would highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach to anyone for their wedding.
We had our wedding here and it was an absolute dream!! This was hands down my dream wedding. Stella, Ashley, and Shelley were literal angels. They were so helpful with everything from the first day. Our tasting was super fun and they made us feel very special. They continued to answer all of my many questions throughout the time leading up the wedding. I was always able to reach them by email or phone. I was very satisfied with the services provided. They were able to make sure everything was thoroughly explained to me. They even showed up on the wedding day throughout the ceremony and reception to make sure everything was going as planned. They truly made me feel special on my wedding day. I really felt like they cared about my now husband and I. I would recommend to have your wedding here. It was such a beautiful place and all of our guests agreed. The venue itself is gorgeous but the decorations added made it look even more beautiful. I loved the bridal suite I got to stay in. It was so convenient and right outside where my ceremony was going to be held. THANKFUL FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL WEDDNG
We are so thankful for Hyatt’s team for working so hard during our wedding. Thanks Brittany and Briana for walking us through our wedding!
This review is for the wedding that my husband and I had on September 21, 2019.
Our wedding turned our beautifully and we couldn't be more happy with our special day!
Things we loved:
- Food is excellent! From our tasting to their partnered cake vendor (Grace & Honey Cakes). We hosted our post wedding brunch and everything was fabulous! They even added in our favorite corn crema soup for us which was SO Sweet!
- Bridal Suite - A beautiful room! Very spacious and we especially loved the balcony and living room space which made getting ready so easy with lots of photo ops! They had a concert series and on the Friday night we were able to watch the concert!
- Ceremony venue in the amphitheater - Beautiful space! So much that not much decor was needed to make it wonderful!
- The small touches - The front desk and all the staff at the Hyatt are so friendly and really makes everything seamless (Beverly was on of the ones that assisted me and my mom and she was amazing! )
- Cocktail hour space in the plaza arbor area - also another gorgeous spot
-Photo ops - What really made us fall in love with this hotel was the sheer amount of beautiful greenery and photo spots.
-They are wonderful in terms of letting you use items they have onsite - whether it be mirrors or easels. They also kindly provided water stations and mints for our ceremony.
Working with Ashley our event and venue manager
We sincerely can't thank you enough for the kind hospitality and assistance throughout the wedding planning process. We really enjoyed working with you!
Cons/Hiccups
- The banquet chairs are so ugly..we got chiavari chairs so problem fixed for us.
- planning a wedding is always a little hectic but we felt it extremely get crazy during the final week and the day of trying to make sure we got all of our paperwork and payments completed.
-Our check in wasn't ready on time for our suite (although they did provide a spare room which was very nice. We came at a busy time so we completely understand that rooms were taken up for the concert series. A completely booked hotel that night a lot of our guests were arriving.
- Some things to note from our guests:
- I had a few guests note that noted one of the bartenders were quite rude to some of our family and friends.
- While speeches were going on they were serving in front of us/during the best man speech. This seems like an obvious to just wait till the speech is done and come back to give us salad dressing/food. Makes for some awkward video moments.
- One of the tables were given roasted potatoes rather than the mashed potato puree which was weird because it seemed like they just ran out and were giving something else? Which made the chicken seem dry to some guests who didn't have the puree to pair with their meal.
Overall, it is a beautiful space and although not everything was perfect, the wedding day was absolutely us and we enjoyed our special day to the fullest.
TL;DR - Hyatt Newport cancelled our wedding, never provided a clear reason for why they did this, and was cheap and difficult to work with to transition our wedding to a new venue. Would never recommend a wedding here.
Our story with the Hyatt Newport started in April of 2018. Jessica (the first person we worked with) showed us the resort before we decided to go for it. We signed one contract to secure the event space, and another for the room block. It took us 1.5 months to finalize the event space document since Jessica somehow forgot key details (e.g. prices, dates, etc.). The room block contract took another 1 month to finalize for the same reason. We found out later that the rooms at the resort are quite terrible (look at the Yelp reviews) so we requested that our guests stay in two specific towers, which took 1 more month to get approved. After around August we didn’t hear from them for a while.
The nightmare really began in October. We received a phone call from Lindsay (new person we never heard of before) informing us that the hotel can no longer host our wedding. When we pressed for more information, the most she would tell us is that a “third-party bought out the entire hotel, including event space and hotel rooms, for a two week span that conflicts with your wedding date.” She couldn’t tell us if she was even part of that decision (her answer was “A group of people made this business decision”).
We received this news three weeks before we were planning on going to India and we told them we needed to figure out a new venue before we left. To their credit, they helped us book additional hotels that we could visit. However, some of them were not comparable by any means to the Hyatt Newport (some were just a joke and a waste of our time).
Once we decided on a new venue, things became even more difficult because Hyatt Newport lacks attention to detail (see first paragraph) and was super cheap. They coordinated with the new venue and dropped numerous details in the new contract that could have a big cost implication for us. For instance, we had unlimited soda in our original contract but our new hotel’s contract included a limit of 30 soft drinks and we would have to pay anything on top of that (we had one event without alcohol for ~200 people so 30 soft drinks wouldn’t last very long). Hyatt Newport also has a gazebo area that we were going to use for our mandap (where the Indian ceremony takes place) but the new venue doesn’t have this. We eventually convinced them to pay for our new mandap. However they emailed our decor vendor with specific photos of mandaps (none of which we liked) and ask what it would cost. Lastly, they wouldn't support a flight down for my wife’s parents to see the venue in person.
This went on for months (we didn’t sign the contract before our trip). We had to go through the contract details while halfway across the world since we didn’t trust this team would do it correctly. If we weren’t so detailed oriented, they would have easily dropped more things that we worked so hard to ensure were in there
The story has a happy ending since we ended up getting a good deal at the new hotel and eventually had a really fun wedding. However, I would never ever recommend anyone to have any type of event at the Hyatt Newport. Their lack of professionalism and communication will make wedding planning for you a complete and total mess. Please steer clear and go somewhere completely different.
We were so excited to tour Hyatt Regency Newport Beach! I'm a big believer in first impressions and after our experience with our tour we will not be considering the venue.
The wedding planner, Jessica, tried to cancel the tour via e-mail an hour before (after I confirmed it 3 days prior). I said that we were on our way and she said that we could still come.
We were advised to check in with the Concierge, Chloe who was fantastic even though she was unaware of the situation. She did her best to point us in the right direction and get a hold of Jessica. To make a long story short it was an extremely unprofessional first impression. Jessica, never even reached out to follow up after she 'ditched' the tour.
Unfortunately, we are no longer considering this venue.
Staff, quality, service were amazing! The only minor error was the room gift bags were delivered to the wrong wedding guests, but that was corrected. Thank you for a beautiful venue!
Beautiful location, but service is honestly underwhelming. Make sure you check your banquet order to make sure the numbers add up correctly. In addition, the staff cleaned up the wedding cake too quickly - many guests, including myself (the bride) did not have a chance to try the cake. Water service during dinner was also lacking (make sure you clarify if you want water replenished throughout the meal). The MOB also commented that one of the bartenders during cocktail hour was rude to her. Overall, you will not be disappointed with the aesthetics of the venue - we got many compliments about this and agree. Just be sure to emphasize the types of service that you expect upfront (we made the mistake of not doing this).
We chose the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, because most of the wedding party was from out of town as well as many of the guest who came in from 18 different states. . It was a 3 day holiday weekend and the Hyatt was a perfect location. They provide SNA airport pickup and our guests could take shuttles to various Orange County locations if desired. The Hyatt offers many different wedding, reception and rehearsal dinner locations on the premises both indoor and out and we chose to have everything on site, even moving into a ballroom for an after party from 10:00 to midnight. The venue choices are also larger than some of the other locations that we visited so my daughter was able to have a large dance floor and the seating was spread out and not cramped. We held the wedding at the amphitheater, had a cocktail party in an area above the amphitheater, reception was held in the plaza outdoor pavilion and the after party was in the plaza ballroom. The prior evening the rehearsal dinner was held in the oasis courtyard. There are several other areas on site to hold a wedding as well. We were able to host a breakfast the day following the wedding on an outdoor patio area. We reserved rooms in blocks and the prices were reasonable although check in was very busy. The food at the hotel is fantastic and we received many compliments on the reception meal as well as the rehearsal dinner food. We offered our guest several choices and the kitchen was very accommodating to our guests with special diet restrictions. The hotel has a wonderful chef and the kitchen staff and servers are very courteous and professional. I would suggest anyone with a large group check into staying in one or all of the villas on site. These come with private pools and our immediate family with spouses were able to stay in one large villa that had private bedrooms but a shared living space. It was conveniently located by the amphitheater. The bridal changing room was also adjacent to the amphitheater. The hotel has several scenic locations to photograph the bride and groom and wedding party. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel groundskeepers made sure we had beautiful flowers planted in the arbor area for our daughter's special day. We used several of the vendors on the hotel list and we were extremely pleased with their services. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The valet service was excellent. Christeen Orr is the hotel wedding event specialist. She is a gem, a superstar and one of the nicest people we have ever met. She is always positive and friendly and even under pressure she keeps her cheery attitude. She was always available, always got back to us, and went out of her way to make us feel like she truly cared about our wedding. She is a true professional and the Hyatt is very lucky to have her on board. She was one of the most important people in helping make our daughters day be the wedding of her dreams. We can't thank Christeen enough for all that she did for our daughter's wedding! The Hyatt is a great place for a wedding. The wedding was beautiful and we all had a lot of fun and we made wonderful memories! Thanks Hyatt!
Christeen Orr, the events manager at the Hyatt was an absolute joy to work with! She helped orchestrate our dream wedding in an area of the Hyatt that hadn't be used yet for what we had envisioned. We had the entire golf course closed for our wedding reception because we wanted to use the back holes (#7, 8 and 9) for different uses. Christeen helped us create diagrams and worked with us and several of our vendors to make sure the vision came to life!! It turned out better than we imagined and would highly recommend the Hyatt Newport Beach for your wedding venue!! The staff is super friendly and helpful. Moises took care of us and always made sure we, as the Bride and Groom were fed, had drinks, etc. We created our own custom menu and brought in Sprinkles cupcakes for dessert!! Lots of local venues don't allow outside vendors, but the Hyatt did and I think we had 7!!! The Hyatt has several locations to use for reception spaces, but the views of Back Bay from the golf course are a well-kept secret...
I wouldn't change it for the world!!
Beautiful venue for our perfect summer wedding a few weeks ago. We were fortunate to have Christeen Orr, as our wedding consultant from the hotel. She was like a second planner to my Day of Coordinator, which the hotel requires for weddings over 100 guests. The amphitheatre for the ceremony fits up to 1000 guests. I didn't have to decorate with too much florals since the sceneries were already so gorgeous. The Terrace Courtyard with hanging string lights was amazing for our outdoor dinner reception. We had a blast and enjoyed the evening as guests, especially with good weather that day. The venue is one of the most important and pricey part of wedding planning. I was sold after my first consultation meeting to view the venue with Christeen. She was excellent at emailing me back immediately with answers to all the questions I had. She was also there on the big day to make sure everything went smoothly. Consider this venue for your wedding in Central OC! It is easy to find on Jamboree, before PCH and there are ample of parking for the guests on the wedding day. We enjoyed the perks of having a terrace ballroom for the afterparty since we had to move the reception inside from 10 pm- midnight. Unlike other venues nearby, the Hyatt offered changing rooms with snacks and drinks for both the bride and groom, as well as an overnight hotel room for the couple. We look forward to using our three complimentary hotel nights for having our special day at the hotel. THANK YOU CHRISTEEN and HOTEL STAFF FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL AND FUN WEDDING at the HYATT IN NEWPORT BEACH!!
The Hyatt was the perfect place for us to tie the knot! The venue was beautiful, the staff, especially Christeen, were easy to work work, and the guests had a wonderful time! We were beyond thrilled with how everything turned out! From all of the planning meetings, to the food tasting, and managing the little details, the Hyatt was so accommodating, flexible, and organized! If you are looking for a romantic, beautiful setting for your big day, I highly recommend the Hyatt!
The Hyatt and our coordinator, Christeen Orr, were great! With their help, we were able to personalize every last detail of our wedding making it the perfect reflection of our style and everything we could have hoped for. Christeen's efforts to accommodate our unique requests made the Hyatt incredibly easy and fun to work with. She really went above and beyond to make our event special.
A million stars!! Working with Christeen Orr was so much fun and so easy! I couldn't have asked for a better coordinator, the Hyatt was the perfect atmosphere for our big day and I would live that day a million time more if I could!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this venue. We worked with Christeen Orr, who was beyond accommodating when we made several changes throughout the planning process. She was quick to respond to our many emails and phone calls, and went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable and enjoy ourselves! The venue itself is beautiful, and our guests had so much fun celebrating with us! We were able to enjoy the garden space, including s'mores at the fire pit, as well as host a small reception in the wine cellar, which I would highly recommend for those with small groups. The Hyatt also has so many awesome places to take pictures, which we and our guests enjoyed! Highly, highly recommended.
My husband and I were married at the plaza arbor and it was without a doubt the most beautiful day of our lives! It had been pouring the night before so we were very worried, but luckily the sun shined just in time! We worked with coordinator, Christeen Orr who was phenomenal! I could not have enjoyed my wedding day if I didn't fully trust in the staff at the Hyatt Regency! I am so happy we chose this venue and so were all our guests!!
Hyatt Newport Beach is a beautiful venue: We did not utilize the ceremony space since ours was at a church, but we did use that space & other picturesque areas within the hotel for Bridal Party photos. A great venue to keep in mind if planning 1 year in advance with the possibly of rain in the forecast -- picturesque hotel for all you photo needs & the set up of the Arbor / Grand Plaza Ballroom area offers a romantic & intimate vibe. Lastly, if given the option, pick Christeen Orr!
Half of my wedding guests were from out of town so the Hyatt Regency was great! They provide transportation to and from John Wayne airport, have a car rental service on the premises and the hotel is more like a resort then a hotel.
My husband and I had our ceremony and reception here. The service was outstanding! We worked with Cassandra Kohler the catering manager there who was so kind. She answered every late night email and request and worked closely with all our wedding vendors, coordinating everything perfectly. We had a wonderful wedding! The staff took great care of our guests, the food was excellent and the venue was gorgeous! We got married in the garden which was perfect for our intimate wedding of 50, and would definitely recommend this venue to anyone wishing to get married in Newport Beach.
The planning process was very exciting. We came into trouble when the hotel, without notifying us, decided to renovate a large portion of the hotel 2 weeks before the wedding. Luckily for them it rained anyway so some of the outdoor areas I was looking forward to would have been unavailable anyway, but it was very disappointing nonetheless. The beautiful lobby that used to exist was reduced to a 1/4 of the original size and a bland large drywall shielded the construction from guests. Room keys constantly had to get reissued since they never worked, and the staff were a little scattered in the golf carts they promised to transport my grandparents and the wedding party. Within hours of the reception ending, they moved the lobby to another building which was very inconvenient for our out of town guests. The valet and bellhops were about the only ones that felt bad for our situation, and gave us superb service. Just can't say the same for upper management...
Our experience was great!! I would definitely recommend this hotel for any event. Staff and representation was phenomenal!!
The reception place was perfect, it had class and style. The hotel has great spots for photos. The honeymoon suite was beautiful too, it over looked the beautiful garden.;The one thing I would warn is, to make sure when you are eating, don't leave your plate to go dancing, because me and my husband had our plates taken away when it came to cake time. So, we didn't get to enjoy the cake we had gotten for the wedding, we only got to taste it when we cut the cake.
