Let me start by saying I absolutely hate leaving poor reviews but I feel it’s necessary to share my experience. If I were reviewing the dress selection process only this shop would receive a full 5 stars. The consultant was professional, helpfu...l, and not pushy. She let us take our time, took pictures, and answered questions/made suggestions but not overly involved or opinionated. It was one of my favorite parts of the planning process.
The subtraction of stars is for the alterations process (and honestly I would have given one star if it wasn’t for the stellar dress selection process). My seamstress did not know how to work with my type of dress so I had a second seamstress working with me and “teaching” the first seamstress what to do, which is fine. However, the two of them continuously talked about my body in a negative way in front of me, in both English and Spanish (which I understand). They said things like my breasts were uneven, my spine wasn’t straight, etc. Now, these things are absolutely true, however, they spoke in very negative voice tones and made me feel like it was my fault the dress didn’t fit correctly.
After 5 or 6 alterations appointments in which they suggested that it was my body type that made the dress fit incorrectly they seemed to give up, even though the fabric was still wrinkled, pulled in the shoulders, and gaped at the breasts. They told me these issues would be fixed when they pressed the gown and that I should consider wearing a belt (which I didn’t want to do) to hide imperfections in the dress (as opposed to just fixing them).
In the end, the dress was beautiful, however, the pressing did NOT fix these issues. During the wedding and in the photos you can see wrinkles in the shoulders and bodice of the dress and gaping at the breasts. In addition, the stitching ripped out near the boning that they inserted so throughout the entire reception I had plastic boning stabbing me in the ribs. This was extremely painful and significantly reduced my enjoyment of the wedding reception. The boning left a nickel-sized bruise on my ribs that lasted throughout my honeymoon and is still present over two weeks later.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend buying your dress from I Do I Do, however, I would strongly consider taking it elsewhere to have it altered.
