I got my hair and makeup done here as a bridesmaid and this hack of a lady (I think someone called her Yuki? She was wearing very colorful clothes and orange glasses) ruined my hair. Not sure why but she crimped my roots very aggressively to the point it hurt and curled my hair multiple times after applying heavy hair spray to the point where I now have severe breakage. You can literally smell the burn in my hair. On top of that this woman also did my makeup and made me look like a circus clown, orange eyeshadow, thick glitter all over my eyes chin and nose. And she was way too harsh when curling my lashes, pulling some out leaving my eye in pain. I was so upset and wanted to cry while sitting in her chair because she was not listening to me (I spoke up multiple times and was brushed off) and was just doing whatever she felt like. I did not say anything at the time since I did not want to upset the bride but both my hair and makeup came out terrible to the point I had to get a different lady (Thank god for Lily) to try and salvage it. It has been a few days now and I still want to cry about my broken and damaged hair. If you book this place do not let this woman near you and just go to Lily instead. The photo at the end is of all my breakage and burnt off hairs.
Do not come here for any of your wedding needs. Lily is a scammer who only cares about money and will lie about anything to get you to sign a contract. We talked about natural looking makeup and for our trial / engagement pics, she put on a full face of kardashian looking makeup. My forehead was a different shade from my face which were all lighter than my actual skin tone. The photographer did what he could but you can literally see how badly the makeup is caked on with every shot. Now I'm 6 months out and scrambling to find a hair and makeup artist even though we already put down a deposit for this places ridiculously priced package. Out of the entire package - I can't use any of the services we paid for. I couldn't rent a dress bc the dress selection was limited and tacky, I have to redo engagement pictures where my face isn't ruined, and I have to find hair and makeup separately. We thought we were saving some money but we basically have to pay twice for everything. I cannot warn you enough not to go with Lily. She'll say anything you want to hear to hire her but at the end of the day, you'll end up screwed over and looking like an Asian kardashian 40 years older than your actual age on your wedding day
I was very disappointed with my wedding day photos. Imperial was recommended by a friend who had a traditional Chinese wedding at a banquet hall in Chinatown. Her photos were beautiful. My wedding was a western wedding at a country club and the results were beyond disappointing! I would not recommend Imperial for a wedding that is not your traditional Chinese banquet. I feel they are not very experienced at how a western wedding flows. I wish I can redo my wedding day and hire another photographer.
This review is strictly regarding rental dresses for the wedding package. If you are looking to rent beautiful wedding gowns or bridesmaid dresses (you have 3+ bridesmaids), I'd suggest trying other studios in Flushing.
For starters, I wasn't too smart when I paid my deposit (200 dollars) before choosing the dresses. On the day of the fitting, I found that the available dresses in their lower floor (semi-basement-like floor with dresses crammed everywhere and dingy "dressing" room) had oil stains right smack in the middle of the dresses and wrinkles on the bottoms of the dresses. When I asked if the dresses would be washed and if this was the norm, they said that it was normal for bridesmaids to rent these and wear it accordingly. On a similar note, the qipao selection was few and far between (mostly older styles). When I noticed how slim the selection was and asked the seamstress if they had a new stock coming in, she stated that this would not be the case. Disappointment central!
After this horrid experience, Lily (the make-up artist), took me aside and notified me that I was to tip the seamstress for the dissatisfying fitting today. This went to show how much they value the customer. I actually had already intended to tip the seamstress that day, but to be called out to do so was rude.
As a future bride to be, I did not feel glamorous, pampered, or listened to.
Granted, the receptionist had gone on vacation for a month, and she is who initially lured in me. I didn't catch the sincerity of her apology, rather, I felt the impolite politeness traveling through the phone. I could have stayed with them and used their DJ/MC, however, after speaking with my friends, I realized that I did not want any passive aggressive behavior the day of the wedding. If they treat customers like this prior to the wedding, I can only imagine the type of stress a bride must endure the day of.
If you are looking for beautiful and CLEAN clothing to rent, I would recommend steering clear of this studio. Needless to say, I didn't receive my deposit back and I had to shop elsewhere with only a few months until my wedding date. [I had initially made this deposit in May, 2017. They told me to return in December or January to try on dresses. It cost me time to find another studio.]
[Happy ending: I actually found one down Main Street that is infinitely better if anyone needs recommendations for the same price as Imperial!]
We got the wedding package at Imperial Wedding Studio through a friend's referral, because we saw how beautiful her wedding and all the pictures turned out.
There are different packages available that tailor to different needs and budgets. Since my husband and I live out of state, planning our wedding in NYC was difficult. Therefore, we went with the full package that took care of the wedding dresses/tux, wedding party's outfits, makeup, engagement and wedding-day photography, limo, etc. It made our wedding planning so much easier and we are happy with the products and services that we received.
When it comes to wedding planning, the views on good or bad products/services are very subjective, so not one person can tell you who is the best.
Word of advice: take your time to look through the portfolio of different photographers, MC, etc. that they provide to find out who can offer the quality or style of service you want.
I absolutely regret choosing Imperial Studios for my wedding. The price is very expensive and the quality of the work is not worth the outrageous price. I got married to my husband in Boston and they charged me extra for an out-of-state fee. On the day of the wedding, the color of the decorations was not the color that I previously chose. Even more infuriating was that the paid host from Imperial Studios got my name wrong.
After the wedding was over, I returned to New York to choose my wedding photos. Most of the photos looked poorly taken, a sign of an amateur photographer. In addition, many photos were blurry. It resembles nothing like the example photos they show you at the beginning. During the photo selection I was told that I can only choose half of my photos for me to take home in my USB drive. Each additional photo would cost me three dollars more. What the f***? The make up artist Linda then rudely said, "if we give you the photos, how would the photographer make money?" We already paid the photography thousands of dollars and they were too cheap to give me my photos. Linda's attitude before I paid for their services was outstanding. As soon as I paid for the package, she became extremely hostile for any requests, was always rude, and always dismissing my concerns.
Their wedding video was made terribly and I requested them to remake it. An example of bad video editing was that in the middle of the video there was a clip with the photographer and videographer having a casual conversation. After a few months, I was contacted to bring a hard drive for them to give me their revised wedding video. Since I wasn't in New York, I asked my friend to use his hard drive to copy the video. Then Imperial Studios deleted all of my friend's files without permission.
This experience was a huge nightmare. I warn all people to never chose Imperial Studios for their wedding.
They are a one stop wedding center meaning you can rent dresses, photography, and limo in one package if you need. Their turn around time is pretty good, 2-3 weeks for pre-wedding/engagement pictures, 6wks for wedding video and pictures.
The quality of their photobooks are great which was my favorite part. The quality of their photographers varies. They have some more seasoned photographer vs some that need more experiences.
Overall, it was acceptable.
