The Silk Mill and our sister venue, The Woolen Mill, located just next door, are full-service event spaces offering ceremonies, receptions, and lodging. We are located minutes from I-95, Routes 1 & 17, and within walking distance of historic Downtown Fredericksburg.
The Silk Mill dates back to 1889 and offers an elegant and industrial atmosphere. At the turn of the century, the mill served as the area's major employer of women. The event space holds up to 300 guests. Your ceremony can take place in a variety of locations, including our adjoining chapel, courtyard, or inside the mill. This Silk Mill is known for its flexibility of set-up and layout designs and is the perfect backdrop for any decor taste.
Our new sister venue, The Woolen Mill, is located just next door. The Woolen Mill dates back to 1864. Since then, it has served as a factory for various industries, including a shoe & pant factory and, most recently, before its current use, a commercial signage company. Now restored, the space offers a gorgeous industrial modern feel with beautiful craftsman accents, most of which are original to the building. One of its most unique features is a spacious rooftop overlooking the scenic Rappahannock River, where you are sure to see a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles that nest along the riverbank. The Woolen Mill accommodates weddings of up to 220 guests.
Both the Silk Mill and Woolen Mill offer on-site accommodations at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill, our 25-room historic inn. The Inn has been serving as an overnight accommodation location since its origination in the 1920s. This offers a unique experience for you and your guests to enjoy exploring historic Downtown Fredericksburg without the hassle of driving.
We look forward to learning more about you and catering to your wedding needs.

We got married at The Woolen Mill on November 23, 2024, and it was everything I ever dreamed of! We were completely in love from the moment my now-husband and I toured the venue. We adored the exposed brick and beams, the getting-ready rooms, the 360 bar, and the rooftop!
A huge thank you to Shannon, our day-of coordinator, who ensured everything ran smoothly. I can't wait to get back all of our wedding photos and relive our beautiful day. I highly recommend this venue to anyone!

The Silk Mill was the best place to have our wedding, hands down! It was so convenient that they do the lodging, catering, set up, break down, and bar. Our day-of-coordinator, Jamie, was great and made sure our day ran as smoothly as possible. And the space was stunning! Silk Mill was our first choice venue and we're so glad we were able to get our preferred date. Book EARLY though if you want a fall wedding, we booked in JUL 23 and most OCT 24 dates and the first weekend of NOV 24 were already taken!
Any questions?

We had our wedding reception at the Old Silk Mill, and it was amazing!! The venue is beautiful, and everyone there was very nice/helpful.
I'd also like to shout out Shannon, who was our day of coordinator. She was amazing! She helped with absolutely everything, and it made our wedding planning and the wedding day so much easier/smoother!
I highly recommend the Old Silk Mill and definitely request Shannon as your day of coordinator for a stress free wedding day!

We had our wedding at the Woolen Mill and it was everything we could have asked for! From the first time we toured the venue we fell in love with it! From the time we paid our deposit to the day of our wedding they were very quick to answer any questions that we had and recommended some vendors to us as well. One thing we really loved was the food tasting! It helped us pick out exactly what we wanted! We decided to go without a coordinator, but you still have someone there on your wedding day an hour before the wedding until an hour after the wedding. Sarah was there with us and she was AMAZING. I can't say enough good things about her! When we arrived at the venue on our wedding day the upstairs toilet wasn't flushing. We called the front desk and they sent someone out immediately to fix it. From the time I called to when it was fixed was probably only 45 minutes! I can't say enough good things about the venue, staff, and food!!

We hosted our wedding at the Woolen Mill Memorial Day weekend and I felt like all of my expectations were met and exceeded for the day! Our incredible coordinator, Shannon, worked so closely with us and was always in contact and easy to reach, making the whole day feel smooth and seamless. I was able to give her my decor and some inspiration photos and had full trust in her pulling off incredible work and she knocked it out of the park!
The food was great, the kitchen staff very accommodating to special requests and all staff we encountered were extremely professional and kind. The venue is BEAUTIFUL and we got so many compliments from our guests of how nice the space was. I love how leading up to the wedding, they offer their Bridal Show Under the Stars to help promote local vendors! The majority of our vendors were Fredericksburg locals (even though we're not!) and it was great to get to meet them and see their work during these shows.

We had a fantastic wedding ceremony and reception at the Woolen Mill. It is a beautiful venue with tons of natural light and character. From Day 1 of planning, the entire team we worked with had the perfect balance of warmth, efficiency, and professionalism. I have to shout out our day of coordinator, Shannon -- she was AMAZING to work with. She took care of all the details, before, during, and after the wedding, allowing me and my family to be present and enjoy the wedding festivities. Thank you!

Our wedding at the Old Silk Mill was AMAZING! The venue itself was beautiful and matched perfectly to what we envisioned our wedding day looking like. The Old Silk Mill provided the food and drink services onsite which made it SO much easier on us for wedding planning. We didn't have to scramble to include more vendors because they were already apart of the venue. The food was also OUTSTANDING! Everyone came up to us to let us know how good the food was even after the wedding.
I'd also like to shout out Shannon who was our wedding coordinator who did such an amazing job! Prior to the wedding, she was so quick to answer any questions I had and was always so helpful. She helped with absolutely everything and it made our wedding planning and the wedding day so much easier/smoother! Between planning, rehearsal, setup, ceremony cues, cleanup, and everything else, Shannon was on top of it all and we didn't have to worry about a thing!
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend having your wedding at the Old Silk Mill and also request Shannon as your wedding coordinator for a stress free wedding!

We had our reception at the Silk Mill and it was truly a dream! From the moment we stepped foot into the Mill it was everything we were looking for - an interior design with history and character, a staff that strives to make the wedding experience as easy and inclusive as possible and hospitality that kept our guests happy the day-of. I truly can't emphasize how much of a good decision it was for us to celebrate our wedding at the Silk Mill, there are no others I would have trusted more.
Also, I need to shoutout our amazing event coordination, Shannon, for her professionalism and diligence. We chose to book day-of services through the Mill because we trusted their staff, and I'm so glad we did. She was with me every step of the way to make sure our event was everything my husband and I wanted. THANK YOU SHANNON!

I just had my wedding at this venue and it was AMAZING. I can't express how amazing it was. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, including multiple ceremony locations, a unique reception space, and gorgeous photo backdrops, all without having to leave the site. The staff is incredibly nice, from the owner to the bartenders to the coordinators. Morgan was our day-of-coordinator and she was incredible. Keeping everything on schedule while also being able to roll with last minute changes and being so welcoming, calm, and collected were just some of her strengths, there are so many more. This venue takes care of the food/beverages and the food is actually SO GOOD. Our guests were raving about our dinner and gelato cart, which I think says a lot because wedding food isn't always the best. We felt so at ease throughout our whole day and I don't think it would've been as perfect anywhere else. I cannot recommend this venue enough!!!!!!

We got married at the Old Silk Mill on Sept. 4th, 2022, and cannot recommend this venue enough!!! From when we first learned about them, to when we came to tour it, to all the pre-event communication, to the food tasting, and finally to our wedding day, every staff member we interacted and worked with was professional, approachable, kind, attentive to our needs (and wants!), and extremely accommodating. The team at the Old Silk Mill truly goes above and beyond to make your big day stress-free, memorable, and according to your vision. We also hired our Day of Coordinator through them, and she was so helpful in so many different ways b/c of her talents and also b/c she knows the in-and-outs of the venue.
As for the venue itself, it is a hidden gem! The ancient red brick and the lush green grounds require very minimum decorations and look so classy and beautiful on their own. The venue came with many twinkle lights, ceiling decor, and beautiful antique furniture. The gold chivari chairs and gold flatware were a bonus for us but something the venue provides at no extra cost.
Lastly, the food was incredible! We came to the tasting a month before our wedding, tried many different food options, and spoke with the chef. The result was a delicious meal at our reception! (Coffee-encrusted beef, saffron rice, and chef's special roasted veggies. For dessert, we had a dessert bar)
In summary, the venue and its staff have exceeded all of our expectations!

I can't say enough great things about the Old Silk Mill. Before my husband and I got married, we had attended weddings there before and absolutely fell in love with the venue. So when it was our turn to get married (4/2/22), it was a no-brainer. The venue itself has SO much character - you don't need a lot of extra décor or "fluff". Flowers and some simple signs and décor is more than enough to tie everything together. Our wedding party, family members, and some guests stayed on-site at the rooms which was an amazing extra perk! Everyone loved the convenience of having everything in one place (bridesmaids and groomsmen both had separate get-ready suites, hotel rooms for guests, ceremony, cocktail, reception all within walking distance). Aside from the elegance and convenience (as well as location less than 1 mile from downtown Fredericksburg), the staff are all absolutely incredible to work with. I booked my wedding 1.5 years in advance and from the beginning, the day-of coordinator we hired (Sarah) was AMAZING! She was extremely communicative, had great vendor referrals, and was an amazing resource. You can't go wrong with this venue and DEFINITELY ask for Sarah to be your day-of! She and the rest of the staff made sure we were taken care of the entire day of the wedding - during cocktail hour they brought us drinks and apps while we took pictures, they kept us on schedule, and were so nice and a pleasure to work with. I can't imagine getting married anywhere else. This place is truly a hidden gem.

The venue is beautiful and the food was great! However, the coordinator we booked through the Silk Mill was not good. Rehearsal started at 4:30 she arrived at 4:29. The chapel was freezing, no heat was cut on. I checked into our room however they did not have our room booked, but had our block of rooms. For the actual wedding day she did not communicate when she would arrive so I was worried about all the logistics. She arrived around noon for a 4:30 wedding. They said the chapel would be warm for the ceremony- it was not! We brought a heater so our guests would not be freezing on a 20 degree day. Did not see the coordinator until I walked down the aisle. The cake table we originally agreed on was not used so my bridal party had to move the cake to use the original table we picked. As soon as it was 10pm they immediately began to clean up when people were still in there. We paid for all of the food, but you will not get any leftovers- only the to go meal for the bride and groom. The Groom’s mom had to ask for the cake to be boxed up to take home (we had the cake from outside not from the Silk Mill). Overall the experience for us as the bride and groom was not good, thankfully the guests did not know any of that went on!

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate the good review on the venue & food. We do our...
best to make sure that every couple has a wonderful experience. The Day of Coordinators do a lot of the work prior to the day of the wedding. Coordinating with vendors (emails, phone calls, timelines, set up times, etc.), a 30day meeting with the couple, the rehearsal the evening before and from noon- 10 pm on your wedding day (10 hour day). The venue was set up by the coordinator in time for the wedding. They are experienced with how long it will take them to set the room with your personal belongings and decor. The front desk did inform me that the coordinator and herself had gone down to the Bridal Prep room to check on things and you all were getting ready. I do apologize there was not clear communication for you. They handle issues that are unforeseen by the bride so she can get ready for her wedding trouble free. For instance., the florist arrived with a bucket of greenery to be placed for the centerpieces. She left it there for the Day of to do. The Day of and another staff member tried to perform the task, but not being florist, had to call the shop to get someone with floral design back out to the venue. It was not prearranged with the florist to give the Day of this Task. The Day of made sure she did the right thing to have the greenery design you ordered. These are things brides do not often see, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes things. We do not have central heat in the Silk Mill Chapel but do however have heaters that heat the space. I believe with a record low that weekend and a wedding of 180 guest coming in and out to the chapel, we were not able to heat it to what we normally do. It is mentioned at the tour that the chapel is not central heat. In the case of the record low weekend, in hindsight, we should have moved the wedding inside the Mill. The staff working the event felt it was comfortable inside. We do have to start cleaning up after the wedding timeline ends to get guests to know the wedding is over. We turn on the lights and start bussing tables, Otherwise, guest linger, chatting, going to the bar, & sitting at the tables. It's hard to have a wedding end when family & friends are having fun. If hotels rooms are rented, guests can move inside the Inn. We also encourage guests to head downtown to our local nightlife. Our staff cannot wait until the guests are ready to leave. The DJ's, photographers, photo booths, all leave. The rental is for a certain amount of time. Our staff coming in 2 hours prior to the event and 1.5 hours after, plus during the event would be in overtime. The contract is for a specific number of hours, and this is all agreed upon prior to the wedding. The food is paid for on a per person price. We make a to go box for the Bride & Groom as a courtesy in case they did not have a chance to sit and enjoy their meal. We do not send home leftover food- we are cooking per person. Another reason for not sending home food, if anyone keeps it too long, overnight in their car, not refrigerated it could go bad, it is our policy, for safety. If there is an outside vendor that brings in cake, usually there are directions on what to do with that- Boxes provided, and details from the baker. If the staff did not have that, I am glad the grooms Mom offered some instruction. Our staff is happy to help outside vendors. As you mentioned above, I am glad none of these things affected your guests. We noticed everyone having a fantastic time. However, we are deeply saddened that this was not what you expected. We cannot change the rules with our closing and to go meals procedures. The coordinators usually perform their setup/ breakdown procedures efficiently. I saw all your personal belongings were collected and packed up nicely. I will talk to the coordinators regarding communication practices to make sure the bride is feeling comfortable with their timeline and service. We wish you and RW the best and appreciate your feedback.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Silk Mill and it’s staff. They truly made our day a dreams come true!
Everything was perfect, and, if there was a hiccup, my husband and I were none the wiser. Worth every (very cost-effective) penny!
We had about ~170 guests, and most have reached out to tell us how much fun they had!

The Silk Mill was seriously the venue of my dreams. Just far enough out of DC. Such a great location! The historic brick buildings are covered in ivy which made for such dreamy photos! I loved the convenience of having the Inn steps away for the wedding party and family. The cost was appropriate. The owner, Anna, was so easy to work with. Sarah and Anne were able to answer almost every question I had - and there were a lot!! Morgan, our day of coordinator, was amazing. She made sure everything ran smoothly and put me at ease, even though I screwed up the seating chart and had to make some big last minute changes. Thank you so much Morgan! I can’t say enough good things about The Silk Mill. Book your wedding here!!

We had our wedding (about 125 people) at the Old Silk Mill and loved it. The location was beautiful and interesting to look at, they had relationships with all our vendors so coordination was easy, and the people we worked with were as nice as could be. They provide a day-of coordinator if you want one, and Brianna was on top of everything. We did the ceremony and reception in the same room, and the staff flipped the space quickly during the cocktail hour so there wasn't a long waiting period before dinner. There was nothing we really needed to deal with on the day of the wedding other than DIYing the flowers and getting the bridal party ready. Also, the space seems like it could be really flexible on decor-- you can go all out if you want, but if you'd rather not worry about decor it still looks stunning on its own. I highly recommend the Old Silk Mill for any wedding with a large guest list.

My husband and I chose The Old Silk Mill for our reception because we loved the gorgeous rustic feel it offered. They book very quickly and we had to wait 18 months for our day to arrive but it was so worth it! We chose to have one of their coordinators to assist us and Morgan was amazing! I'm a little OCD at times when it comes to planning and I admit I was concerned at first because we didn't have too much conversation initially, but I now know why that was the case. She was busy making sure the brides and families before me were being well taken care of by assuring them she had everything under control. As our day drew near, Morgan kept in close contact with me. She always had a smile and a kind word and made sure my husband and I were totally at ease. She meticulously coordinated with all of our vendors to be sure everything went exactly as we planned. We didn't have a worry in the world! Our reception was beautiful and went beyond our expectations. All the staff at the Silk Mill are top-notch! Our family and friends had a fantastic time and raved about our venue choice. You can't go wrong booking here!

The Old Silk Mill was the perfect venue for our wedding ceremony and reception! We had a beautiful outdoor ceremony, but we felt confident knowing that the inside would have been beautiful too in case of rain or excessive heat. We were able to customize the venue to reflect our interests and tastes, but we didn't have to do too much decorating since the place is so elegant on its own. We loved working with Sarah, who was a great calming presence and kept every stage of the process running smoothly. As an added bonus, it's a five-minute walk from Carl's Ice Cream!

I had my wedding at the Silk Mill on 09/01/2018. I could not have been happier with everything. From start to finish the staff was amazing. We received so many compliments from family and friends about what a beautiful/unique space it was. Our ceremony was held in the chapel. The only downfall of the chapel is that it can get a little toasty in the summer. I would also recommend booking Brianna as the coordinator. She made the entire wedding a BREEZE. Literally did EVERYTHING the day before and day of. You will not regret booking this venue!

Just got married here on 4/14/18. We LOVED this venue! We did a chapel ceremony, courtyard cocktail hour then the reception in the mill. Our guests loved having everything on site and we filled all the inn rooms with our family and bridal party. Sarah was phenomenal as a wedding planner!! She made sure all the details of the day ran smoothly. I was able to relax knowing everything was taken care of. We used all vendors that were recommended by the silk mill. They were all VERY reasonably priced, the service was great, and they were familiar with the venue and had worked with Sarah making everything run smoothly. I can not say enough good things about the Silk Mill. The venue was gorgeous and extremely accommodating.

Deployment caused us to shift our dates around. Anna seemed to want to help but when we moved the date, she did not move the hotel reservations. When we caught it, she had already booked another wedding for the day after ours and blocked the rooms off the night of our wedding. She told us the wedding had been booked for a while but told our wedding coordinator something completely different in that everything on our end was ok. Our guest would have showed up with no where to stay had we not caught it. Anna spent her time blaming everyone, to include my fiancé and myself for having to switch the dates, instead of accepting responsibility for her mistake. Careful booking with this venue.
Vendor response 04/02/2018
We were happy we had the Silk Mill reception area available when the wedding date needed t...
o be switched. Unfortunately the hotel rooms were not open on the new date. They had been booked for awhile with another wedding .There is a Marriott in town and a Hyatt, and often when the hotel is booked, many of our clients will have their wedding & reception here and stay offsite. This was not an option for this particular couple. We offered to block rooms at another location and provide transportation. No one was blamed, we only wanted to do the best we could to solve the issue of our Inn being booked. There was some miscommunication with the coordinator with the rooms. No one blames anyone, we admitted we did not know where the miscommunication was. No one would of showed up with not rooms, because we told the couple one week after the change when they came to the hotel to sign for the change. This is another reason we suggest to use our onsite coordinators who are in tune to our entire facility - The Inn and Mill so we are all on the same page. I know this couple would of had a wonderful ceremony & reception at the Silk Mill, but totally understand they wanted overnight accommodations onsite. They did receive a full refund, even though we had the reception area available for their wedding. We wish them the best of luck and stress to our future clients the importance of checking the availability and booking the rooms if it is crucial and must go hand and hand with the wedding reception. We in turn mention consistently after this episode to verify rooms if any changes are made. It is still possible to have a wedding at the Silk Mill and trolley to the Marriott or other close by hotels.

We held our wedding at the Silk Mill August 12, 2017. The number of compliments we received on the venue was insane! All of our guests loved the ambiance. We also used one of their Day of coordinators, Sarah. She went above and beyond on all levels. We felt extremely well taken care of and prepared for the big day. We would not have been able to pull off such a magical night so smoothly without the Silk Mill to help us! It was also nice having the inn there. A lot of our family and friends stayed at the inn making it easy at the end of the night. We cannot stop looking back on our wedding day. We highly recommend the Silk Mill to anyone looking for a venue in Fredericksburg!

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Old Silk Mill and we were so happy with our experience. From the beginning they walked us through every part of the venue and answered all of our questions. We ended up hiring the 30 day coordinator Sarah, and we are so happy we did, she was literally our saving grace. During our 30 day meeting with her she went through everything with us and brought up stuff that we hadn't even though about yet but at the end of the meeting we felt so much relief and way less stressed. On the day of the wedding she took care of everything and made sure everything ran very smoothly even when it down poured on our wedding day and things had to be moved around, I never felt stressed about any of it knowing that she had everything taken care of. We loved the venue and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a modern but rustic romantic place to get married.

We had our wedding at the Old Silk Mill in May 2017 and it was AMAZING! Sarah was our day of coordinator and through recommendations from other OSM brides and our vendors, I felt like we worked with a dream team! The Mill was gorgeous and perfect for our wedding of about 125 guests. A college friend of mine was married at the OSM in November 2015 and had a wedding twice the size of mine and everyone still fit comfortably! We had our friends who were most likely to indulge in our signature drinks stay at the Inn and it worked out perfectly. I highly recommend the OSM for the versatility and beauty of the space, the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, the price point, and finally, THE IVY WALL!!

The staff at the Inn was amazing from the first day we looked at the venue! Throughout our wedding planning, every staff member was more than willing to answer questions any time we called. The location was incredible, we used their chapel for our ceremony as well. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. It was perfect for our wedding, our guests didn't need to drive anywhere to go from the ceremony to our reception. Our guests raved about the Inn at the Old Silk Mill as well!
We used a day of coordinator from the Silk Mill and we are so glad that we did! Sarah was incredible! She made everything run smoothly and helped us with every little detail! She coordinated everything for our ceremony and reception. Everything ran smoothly and if there were any hiccups, we had no idea because it was handled quickly.
It was our dream day and the Inn!!
Our only regret is that our reception couldn't have been longer... it was the best day of our lives!

We had our beautiful reception at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill on April 8, 2017 and would highly recommend this venue (and their incredible staff) to all. We also rented out all of the rooms at the Inn which worked out really great for our guests. They enjoyed their stay and use of the common areas to visit. Sarah D. was our wedding coordinator and was an absolute dream to work with. She has such a warm and kind disposition and is so genuine in her desire to make your big day go off without issue. Throughout the months leading up to the wedding, she kept in contact with me and quickly answered any and all of my questions. She is an excellent communicator and listener. She is also extremely organized. We had a very long guest list, lots of varying elements to our reception, and a lot of family members who had a hand in the decorating and planning. She was so patient and went above and beyond to make time for all of the different dialogues to ensure everything was seamless. She was also really great to give my husband and me more than enough time to know when the next schedule event was (i.e. cake cutting, final dance, etc.). As fast as the whole day went, I truly was able to enjoy every moment of our wedding and reception and I know that was largely due to Sarah's ability to effectively guide the timeline of the day. The Silk Mill is such a great space, so versatile, it's really the perfect blank slate for any bride and groom to have the wedding of their dreams.

We had a December wedding here and it was fantastic. As a Fredericksburg native who is now living elsewhere, I had only ever seen the Inn from the less-than-inspiring Princess Anne side. When looking at venues all around Virginia with my now-husband, we finally went inside the Inn and Mill and both fell instantly in love with the possibilities for the spaces.
Inn: It was wonderful to have many of our guests able to stay right on site. Most of our guests, and my now-husband's entire family, are from out-of-state, so this allowed everyone to feel local for the weekend. The parlor served as an easy gathering-point at all times of day.
Reception: The Mill is often described as a "blank slate," and it definitely provides all sorts of opportunities to decorate as you like; that said, the owners have also introduced many thoughtful design details that feel elegant and fun, without limiting your decoration options. It was so convenient that tables. chairs, and linens were handled as part of the rental. We chose to rent chiviari chairs, but were able to do that as part of our venue contract -- as details mount in wedding planning, this was so good.
Courtyard: For cocktail hour between ceremony and reception, we had guests go to the courtyard, which we'd tented. It worked very well for 150 guests and provided a great on-site cocktail hour location.
Chapel: You definitely need to have a vision for decorating the chapel, as it is only recently opened and still needs the details that make the Mill so great. That said, with some dedicated friends the morning of, it was a beautiful space for our ceremony.
Wakefield Room: We used the Wakefield Room as a a getting-ready room for the ladies, as the location for a kids reception during the reception, and for a Sunday brunch the next day. It was a great space for all three, versatile, comfortable, and elegant.
Day of Coordinator: Sarah was amazing. She was professional and detail-oriented and, at the same time, calming, kind, and just the right amount of funny. Especially after talking with other brides about their nightmare day-of coordinator experiences at other venues, I cannot say enough good things about Sarah.
Cons: The only con, truly, was that there was confusion around the welcome bags my mother had prepared for guests. Many of the guests staying at the Inn did not receive theirs, even after I double-checked names/room numbers the day before the wedding. Things happen, and they have assured me, they've figured out a better system for the future.

Exceptional venue and staff! Everyone was a joy to work with and the venue is absolutely breathtaking. How wonderful it was to enjoy the reception without a thought or concern about anything . Sarah, our reception day-of coordinator was amazing. She went above and beyond (way beyond coordinating the reception the day of only)...from meeting with us months in advance so we had piece of mind, to setting up on wedding day with an extraordinary attention to detail, to coordinating with the other vendors so that everything went smoothly, to showing up at the church before she went to OSM to set up (with an emergency kit in hand in case it was needed, and a big hug for us all), ...she helped make our special day "all that more special". She patiently answered our many questions as we planned and equally patiently was there to make our reception go so smoothly and so well. She is AMAZING...and so is the venue.

My husband and I got married at The Old Silk Mill on April 25, 2015. We had both our ceremony and reception there as well as stayed at the Inn with our immediate family and bridal party. The Inn is absolutely beautiful and a blank slate as far as decorating or if that is not your thing it is beautiful on its own as well. We went for a minimalistic decorating strategy with candles in the windows and on the tables and the mill was just more gorgeous as the evening wore on. We also hired their wedding coordinator Sarah and I cannot say enough about her. She had everything down to a science and asked about details we hadn’t even thought about. She made sure everything was perfect for our day (including a move of the ceremony inside when it ended up being rainy and cold on our wedding day). At times it felt like there must have been 3 of her with all the running back and forth she did from the reception set up, to the bridal party getting ready and the groomsmen. My mom and I both discussed that we could not imagine the stress we would have been under the day of had Sarah not been there to oversee and coordinate everything. Another great thing about the Silk Mill is the use of the Inn. We booked the entire Inn for our bridal party and family and having everything in one place was so easy for everyone and a lot of fun. I would highly recommend the Silk Mill for any bride planning her special day! You won’t be disappointed.

When i saw pictures of this venue I knew this was where I wanted to have my wedding. We moved our wedding date up b/c they didn't have any dates in the Fall open. I paid to use their wedding coordinator Sarah. She was ASWESOME and I would highly recommend hiring her b/c she made sure everything went smoothly. My only complaint was that there were a lot of additional charges that were separate from what I paid. I would prefer to have a package which included everything up front so that later I wasn't having to pay for additional guests, dance floor or outdoor chairs. Aside from that though, the place is beautiful and everyone was great.

I had my rehearsal dinner and wedding reception at the Silk Mill in July 2014 and it was an amazing experience. Sarah, the wedding planning for the day, was absolutely amazing. She was very helpful and answered all my questions very promptly. I was always told not to sweat the small stuff, but there was nothing to sweat, everything went perfect. My husband and I had such a great time and had many compliments on the venue from family and friends. I would definitely recommend this place to a bride looking for the perfect venue :)

From start to finish my experience at the Old Silk Mill was great. They do not require you to use their wedding coordinator, but I highly recommend using her! Sarah made sure our entire day was planned out to the minute, and made sure we did not have to stress about one single thing! Our wedding ceremony and reception went off without a hitch, and I think we owe Sarah for a lot of that! The Silk Mill was flexible with anything and everything we wanted and made the planning process much smoother than I had anticipated. I would highly recommend the Inn at the Old Silk Mill!

The atmosphere made you feel like you had gone back in time - I'm from the area so it was nice to feel like my wedding was a "destination wedding" without having to go anywhere!
The guest rooms are decorated with antiques and no two rooms are alike. The courtyard is beautiful, which is where I had my ceremony, and the mill itself is so inspiring. The "blank canvas" was perfect. It was also nice to have the entire Inn to ourselves so that my guests could get ready and walk right downstairs and vice versa at the end of the night!
The only thing I would caution about in the Mill itself would be the acoustics. The DJ I hired had done events at the Mill before but an overwhelming number of my guests said they had a hard time hearing him...Ultimately, I heard my sister's MOH speech so that's all that matters but it would have been nice if my guests could have heard it, too.
I ended up hiring Sarah (the day-of-coordinator at the Inn) and don't know what I would have done without her. She was EVERYTHING a bride needs on her wedding day and days leading up to it! Her energy was always calm and she did everything in her power to make may day run as smoothly as possible. Everyone in my bridal party couldn't say enough kind things about her. She was organized, flexible, extremely responsive and accomodating, personable and just overall on top of her game!! I would highly recommend using her day-of services especially if you plan on having both your ceremony and reception at the Mill.
Unfortunately, there were only TWO things I wasn't happy about which is why the service is rated at a 4 and not a 5...note that everything leading up to the wedding day was WONDERFUL concerning service.
The morning after my wedding, I went to pick up the rest of my things and my flowers. I don't think the Inn knew I was coming to pick up my flowers so they had used them in the breakfast room, the entrance coffee table and at the front check-in area. We rang the bell, knocked on the door several times and walked around the immediate area for at least 15 minutes trying to locate someone to let them know we would be taking my flowers but found no one. So, we loaded them up and left. A day or so later, the Inn called my mother to let her know they found a few things they believed belonged to us and then said, "Also, we were wondering if you knew where *our* flowers went?" My mother told them that we took *my* flowers and tried to let someone know but couldn't find anyone after looking for several minutes. They then asked if we could return the vase one of the arrangements was in because it belonged to someone in the office. My mother returned the vase and later we found out that the vase did not belong to anyone in the office.
I also found out after my honeymoon that one of my bridesmaids lost a pearl earring in her room that her father had bought for her from Spain. She contacted the Inn and they said they had found it but they needed her to describe it and provide a picture. She did both and asked if they could mail it; they asked her to pay for postage, she agreed, they said nevermind, they ended up sending it in a regular white envelope and when she recieved it there was a hole in the envelope and it was gone.
Overall, it was a wonderful and beautiful wedding experience and I highly recommend to brides with big imaginations but the flower and pearl situation left me feeling a little disappointed.

We used The Old Silk Mill as our wedding venue and reception site on April 12 2014, all taking place within the Mill. Our experience with the wedding coordinator was phenomenal, as we live in NYC and Sarah was easy to get in touch with, accommodating, worked with my mom who was close by, and absolutely available 100% on the wedding day to do whatever we asked and more. While the Mill is kind of a blank slate it was perfect for us to decorate as we liked and I loved the huge space and exposed brick. If I have any complaints, it would be with the attached B&B being that some of my guests were having a difficult time making overnight reservations or some of the reservations not showing up after they called to make one. None of this was an issue on the weekend of the wedding though because Sarah was on top of everything to get it all in order before the wedding weekend, checking in with me to have all bases covered. The attached B&B was perfectly awesome during Friday and Saturday of the wedding, accommodating my (sometimes drunk) guests. I would recommend this venue to anyone who is thinking of getting married in the area, the proximity to downtown Fredericksburg is also a plus.

My husband and I just had our wedding here May 17, 2014 and it was amazing!! It was more than I ever could have imagined. I like that The Silk Mill is historic and has somewhat of a blank slate so you can really make it your own. Sarah was so helpful the entire time before the wedding, the day before and the day of the wedding. She was SO attentive and seriously made the day so so much better and easier. While we were doing wedding party pictures, she was right there with food and drinks ready to step in to keep us fed and happy. Every part of the wedding was perfect, thanks to the staff at the Silk Mill. If I could get married every day, I would do it over and over again at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill.

When planning our wedding I wasn't one for getting caught up in the details. I knew what I wanted, but did not always know exactly how to execute it. But when looking for a venue to have our reception at, my fiancé and I knew the Silk Mill would be the place for us. We wanted a space that did not feel stuffy but where we could celebrate our marriage with friends and family and feel comfortable and also give our guests a unique experience. The Silk Mill filled all of those requirements.
When we chose the Silk Mill not only did we get a beautiful reception venue but a great wedding team. Sarah was the best. She asked questions that I had no idea needed an answer. Our day would not have gone off as smoothly as it did if not for her. On the day of our wedding I did not have a worry in the world, even though it was a pretty gross day weather wise to have a wedding. Sarah took care of all the little details that I was not very good at myself.
The Silk Mill was the perfect place for our "fall but not fall" décor. The mill is a blank canvas for almost anything you want to do. The beautiful brick and the historic, industrial nature of the building are the perfect backdrop for virtually any theme.
We had a great time at our reception and if we were to do it all over again would definitely choose the Silk Mill again.

When planning my wedding, I really didn't want a typical venue, such as a stuffy hotel ballroom, etc. when I saw the Old Silk Mill I was in love!! Such a classic, almost rustic look, but still elegant and chic. It's absolutely perfect! This venue can host small or large weddings and is so versatile. You can have your wedding indoors, in the beautiful mill, or outdoors, in the beautiful courtyard. The staff is so helpful and did everything in their power to make sure our big day flowed as smoothly as possible. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better location to have my wedding, it was stunning!

This venue is beautiful with its exposed brick and big industrial windows. You can do whatever you want inside this building...any color scheme or theme! Sarah, the day of coordinator, is amazing!!! I never had a worry the day of my wedding because of her...she was there with a helping hand to help me use the restroom or fix my bustle.

this is a great place to get married and have a reception. It is like a blank slate so it is all yours to do what you want. The owner Ed is wonderful and willing to work with you to make the day great. Anna the coordinator is willing to work with you as well.

We had our wedding in February 2012. I found the location online. It was my number 1 choice and the only venue we toured. We fell in love with the location instantly. It was amazing. It is rustic yet industrial and historic. We were married in the old silk mill. The Inn is just as pretty, if you have a smaller number of guest attending you can get married on the "gone with the wind" stairs. The old silk mill is a large location. The owners are a pleasure to work with and were very helpful along the way. I could not have asked for a better wedding and guest still compliment us on our wedding months later. And the location inspires amazing photographs!

Finding The Inn at the Old Silk Mill in Fredericksburg was like finding a diamond on a hiking trail I've been on a hundred times before. I grew up in the Frdedericksburg area and have literally driven past the venue hundreds of times without giving it a second thought. I was apprehensive about booking a meeting there, because the outside of the Inn is pretty underwhelming. But walking into the Inn, I was blown away! The lobby and sitting rooms just have an awesome classic feel, and I found my weekend wedding guests meeting up to chat in the common areas instead of their rooms because everyone liked the ambiance so much!
And the rooms are amazing! Every single room is furnished differently with antiques, and it's incredibly fun to peek into the different rooms to see all the new furniture! I had guests come up to me and tell me how comfortable them beds were and how well they slept. One guest told me that she normally doesn't sleep well in hotels, but she slept like a log "because the rooms were just so homey and comfortable!"
That leaves the Silk Mill itself! We had our wedding reception in the court yard and our reception in the Silk Mill. Everyone was blown away by the historic building, and I loved that the architecture was so interesting that I didn't have to decorate much! Everyone loved the large space, and we had enough room for all of our 130 guests, DJ, Dance Floor, and caterers! The floor is concrete, but it was incredibly smooth and every one kicked off their shoes by the end of the night and was dancing barefoot with no problems!
The Staff at the Inn is incredibly positive, helpful, and responsive. They'll answer any question you throw at them and are extremely flexible and accommodating! I highly recommend them as a wedding venue!
