We started out with a tasting and had a great experience trying out various dishes and apps they offered. We liked the variety and the fact that Italic specializes in vegetarian and vegan food. Italic provides a ton of options for entrees and for appetizers. One of us is vegetarian and the other not, and we were really happy that Italic could work with us on a dual menu that was vegetarian friendly with a meat option. We had several appetizers at cocktail hour: one on a table and one passed, and they were both delicious! Italic also provided catering staff and a bartender.
We made changes to our menu a few weeks leading up and they were pretty flexible with that. We did learn at that time that they provide a kids menu option, which was great. The kid menu was exactly what the kids liked and enjoyed.
Italic has the option to order tablecloths, cutlery, chargers, napkins, etc. through them which was convenient.
While this is expected for any caterer, just be mindful of all the added costs of things like disposable cups, dessert plates, napkins, ice, and the water station at the ceremony site that may have not been considered when you first developed the quote. We ended up paying 20-30% more than anticipated due to the many surprise items brought up. It was almost more than that because they had miscalculated the labor cost. As I’ve seen in other reviews, the contract went through many hands and seemed to have changed a few times even after signing. That was really frustrating and we had to go back and forth many times to get things fixed on it.
Overall, the wedding went great and Italic did an excellent job setting up and the food was great, especially for vegetarians. Just be warned about the contract issues and that they will try to add on as much as possible as it gets closer to the wedding date. If it wasn’t for that, I would have left a 5 star review.
I would NOT recommend this catering company! went to a wedding and I saw this lady (who looked like the owner or someone in charge...asian looking) and she was just walking around. Food was so so at best.
I booked Roots to cater my wedding on 5/27/24. Amazing experience, everyone was extremely professional and helpful. Honey made the process extremely easy to pick everything I wanted to my specifications and Dawn came out to inspect the venue and walk through service the week before the wedding. The day of the Wedding Dawn and the other cater took care of everything, going above and beyond, helping with decorations and moving furniture and decorations to the ceremony locations and then later relocating it to the dinner location. Superb job by everyone. They provided more than just catering.
I'm an event planner. The food is always delicious, Chef Madhoo is very creative, guests are happy, Morgan is so easy to work with.
The food was good, and our guests loved it. Unfortunately everything else about them has been difficult to terrible.
They have a lot of staff turnover so our contract changed hands multiple times, which is fine, but my planner didn’t have the best experience trying to communicate with them. The real kicker?
Three days before my wedding the owner tried to add $2000 to the bill, stating a computer error and her own staff’s neglect to check a charge as the reason. Then she said they needed to add another chef. All of this for a 50 person wedding! This was after we signed the contract 7 months ago, and someone came to meet us at the venue to do a walkthrough. I told her it felt like a scam, and she said she had to talk to her manager and then call me back.
She finally did and graciously “waived” the extra $2000. Then at the wedding they gave the vegan meal for my brother in law to the DJ, didn’t provide the coffee service we paid extra for, and didn’t apparently make enough food (I’m told people asked for more and they said they were out). Not to mention one of their male staff came into the bridal suite without knocking, unfortunately during my outfit change (a female staffer came in and apologized but come on).
Yeah the food is good, but not worth the hassle and unprofessionalism. Not to mention they might try to scam you a few days before the wedding too.
2 stars only for food quality.
Working with Roots for our wedding this June could not have been better. JJ was extremely communicative and easy to reach when I had questions or had to make changes. Our food was delicious and very reasonably priced compared to many other vendors I spoke with in the area. The day of our wedding everything came together seamlessly on their end and it was probably the least stressful part of the whole event. I am so so grateful to JJ and Lily and their whole team for taking such great care of us.
Delicious and plentiful food. Easy to work with, great communication. Our buffet was primarily vegetarian/vegan and there were no issues or qualms with setting it up. The servers and staff at the wedding were so friendly. Highly recommend.
The Gourmet Kitchen completely delivered when it came to the food, and in the end, that was the most important thing! Appetizers, sides and mains were all delicious.
Besides the tasty food, the service led by Dawn and bartenders were great - I had numerous compliments about the bartenders, specifically.
The only area that was a little disappointing was pre-wedding communication. I understand it was a difficult year with turnover and staffing, but I often had to follow-up with Gourmet Kitchen as they went through these transitions. If you are a bride on the ball with follow-ups and inquiries, I'd recommend them without hesitation, but if you're relying on a super responsive vendor for your day, this heads up is for you.
In the end, the food and service were the most important things and Gourmet Kitchen did a great job. I hope with more staff stability their communication levels up!
This is hard for me to write since the service staff and the food were both excellent. However, I feel that this company is handled unethically and unprofessionally and I wouldn't use them again. I had hired TGK to cater my wedding on 9/25/21. We signed a contract with them in January 2021 (well into the new covid world). Between January and September, they lost their business manager whom was lovely, and we had to work directly with the owner. The coordination leading up to the wedding was poor and no one had contacted us until WE finally reached out to them less than 30 days before the event to make sure we were still set and what they still needed from us. Two weeks before the wedding, the owner sent us back a revised contract which ended up being 13% more than the original contract for less people. I questioned why the cost has gone up especially since we had lowered the head count by 25 people. At first she tried to blame it on the 20% down we had already paid but then after more questioning said that she noticed the difference was attributed to a $500 coffee addition which we had not requested, and then an 11% sustainability fee for her services so she could pay her staff more and cover insurance. While this sustainability is great in theory, adding this amount on so close to the wedding, which was not agreed to in the original contract, felt shady. Especially since it was just added to the contract and she didn't give us a heads up until we brought it to her attention. There was literally no communication ahead of time about her adding this fee and they tried to sneak it in hoping we wouldn't question it. But what can you do at that point? It was too late to find a new caterer, and based on how the conversation was going after the initial question about the increased costs, I didn't want to push it too far so we ended up paying it and not rocking to boat even though we had a legally binding contract saying otherwise. And to answer the inevitable question, no there was nothing in the contract that stated they could change their prices. The other 2% was random miscellaneous increases here and there to cover rentals and add a chef to the day of service, but that was minor in relation to the 11%. Overall, I am highly disappointed with my experience with TGK and I hope other brides can avoid the same stress that we went through.
From start to finish our experience with The Gourmet Kitchen was amazing! They did an excellent job with our wedding. The food was delicious, they were flexible with the menu and budget, and the staff were fantastic! Highly recommend.
Amazing! Madhoo is very talented and so easy to work with! We colored a little outside of the lines serving our guests tapas style tacos, a variety of salsas, guacamole, and other delicious sides. The food was incredible and the staff go above and beyond to make sure that your big day runs smoothly.
Everything was great from the food to the service!! Our guests also gave us great feedback on the wonderful flavors- the owner is very skilled! The whole process from start to finish was handled with professionalism and the Gourmet Kitchen was a pleasure to work with the entire time!! Thank you :-)
Madhoo and her team did an amazing job at our wedding! They created a delicious breakfast-for-dinner buffet menu that our guests raved about (that bacon is some people's favorite wedding memory!). They also decorated the buffet to match the rest of our woodland fairy tale reception. Every element was finished with extra care and attention to detail. From the appetizers to the late-night-snack cereal bar, everything was delicious and went off without a hitch!
Madhoo from The Gourmet Kitchen made our 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Boettcher Mansion be an event that could not have been more perfect. Because we were celebrating in Colorado, but live in Texas, managing all the details of food, decor, rentals, and flowers was presenting quite a challenge. Imagine our delight to have Madhoo agree to handle all the details! She provided wonderful food that met our families many particular culinary requirements, and everyone went away contented. The entire preparation and production was accomplished with care and affection that is rare in a commercial setting. Thank you, Madhoo!
Madhoo did an amazing job. We had a mainly Indian menu, given the limited options for Indian catering in Colorado, I feel like I was so lucky to have found the Gourmet Kitchen. All of the guests loved the food. They also set up a beautiful display woh descriptions of all the dishes that fit in perfectly with our decor. Everyone was very easy to work with and communicate with from the start. I would recommend the Gourmet Kitchen for any event!
Madhoo and The Gourmet Kitchen were the perfect choice for us! I am not much of a wedding person, but one thing I always remember about weddings is how mediocre the food is. As soon as we met Madhoo and tried their food, my husband and I knew she was our only choice. On top of our meal being amazing, Madhoo and her staff were incredible. They took care of all the setup and clean up, but also checked on Clayton and I to make sure that we were well fed and had something to drink at all times. In fact, right after our ceremony, Madhoo and her assistant (amazing woman!) had plates of chips and queso (our yummy appetizer), along with a beer, ready to go for us! If you want the best, I whole-heartily recommend the Gourmet Kitchen.
We were married in February 2017 and chose to use the Gourmet Kitchen as the caterer for our wedding in Estes Park. We are located in Illinois so we were planning this as a destination event and had limited opportunities to travel to Colorado prior to the event. We reviewed the 4 caterers that the venue allowed and had tastings at each. The Gourmet Kitchen had by far the best food we tasted. That being said, it was their flexibility that ultimiately led us to choose them. Madhoo(Chef and Owner) met with us at our tasting, understood what we were looking for and ended up creating a unique custom menu for us. She accomodated Gluten Free, Vegan, and Dairy Free requirements while still making exceptional food for the majority of the guests without limitations. If you are looking for unique excellent food, then I cannot more strongly recommend The Gourmet Caterer. Another example of their flexibility is that they allowed us to fly in our favorite Ice Cream from Illinois and set up an amazing ice cream bar as part of the event.
The day of the event, Madhoo attended and was extremely attentive. They brought a plate of each of the appetizers and set it at the head table so my wife and I were able to try everything. They also made up several plates of food for us to take back to our room to eat following the event. Madhoo attended us and the guests without being invasive and genuinely seemed to care about making our day amazing.
I would choose The Gourmet Kitchen again in a heartbeat.
Madhoo was awesome the whole way through! Super helpful from the first time we met her until the last time we saw her on our wedding night. Felt great to know she was overseeing everything, and I really felt how much she cared about OUR event!
Technically I'd give a 4.5 star, but that's not an option...
Madhoo was great to work with and the food was delicious! I have celiac (and so do several of my family members) so we can't have gluten. Madhoo accommodated our needs so well. She even had gluten free rolls available for us. The food was delicious! We decided on a chicken dish after our tasting but I was nervous that the 2 hour transport from her kitchen to my venue would make it dry and rubbery. However, it was tender and delicious! The staff was great, especially the coordinator Courtney and the bartender Ayeshu (unsure on the spelling). Another great thing about working with them was we had the option to bring our own cake and our own bar.
The only reason I'd prefer to give 4.5 stars instead of 5 is because there was limited help on clean up. If we had known ahead of time, it would have been one thing, but we were blindsided by having to do a lot of the cleanup ourselves. They helped decorate and move chairs and were so great with set up. We just had no idea that didn't carry over to clean up as well.
We used The Gourmet Kitchen for our wedding and our rehearsal dinner. They offered 50% off the food for the rehearsal dinner since we booked our wedding with them, which was great! Madhoo herself worked both events, and made sure to come talk to me during the events to ask how everything was going, and if we needed anything. The food was great, and they were super flexible with all my (many) changes to the estimates/food choices/numbers throughout the entire process. Vipul was very responsive leading up to the events, and was also very nice in responding to my emails in a timely manner, and answering all my questions. They were very reasonably priced (and I got estimates from ~10 caterers), and were very flexible, customizing the menus to exactly what we wanted. They can make pretty much anything, so you just have to tell them what you have in mind. Definitely recommend them, they will put you at ease on your wedding day knowing they will take care of all the food/bar/service.
In August 2016, my daughter’s wedding and reception was held at Copper Leaf Gardens and Event Center with The Gourmet Kitchen catering the event. One of the reasons we chose The Gourmet Kitchen to cater was because they are housed in the same venue as Copperleaf, where we had ceremony, and reception. As such, our event greatly benefitted from the food being brought up straight from the kitchens, with no transporting between kitchen and venue. As mother of the bride I am so happy we made that decision. Vipul and Madhoo Seth were wonderful to work with. They were flexible in working with us with drink options for guests (and even set aside a particular bottle of wine for the bride). Rather than pushing a particular menu on us, they helped us create the perfect meal for my daughter’s big day. They went so far as to help create a brunch menu for the mid-morning affair that included “build your own” hash brown bar. Everything was cooked perfectly and our guests raved about the food (we highly recommend the bacon-wrapped dates). Additionally, I had the opportunity to peek into the kitchen while delivering the wedding cake (we brought in our own) and was very happy to find a clean kitchen and polite staff. We were delighted with the The Gourmet Kitchen, and absolutely recommend them to future brides (regardless of whether you have your event at Copperleaf or not).
