I DO NOT recommend James Allen. I got my engagement ring less than a year ago. For reference it is a little over a carat solitaire on a peg setting. I take it off for sleeping, showering, working, gardening, cooking, working out… basically I baby it. After about three months of having the ring, I took it in to my local jeweller to have the prongs looked at, as is suggested every 6 months. At this time one prong was bent. I chose to have my local jeweller tighten the prong as it is a 30$ USD shipping to send the ring back to James Allen (more expensive than the tighting fee locally). After the prong was tightened, the ring was good. A few months later I knocked the ring on a plastic bin and I could feel a prong bent, so I took it to get repaired. This again was fixed. A few weeks later, possibly from the same incident on the bin… the whole diamond is crooked and two prongs are completely bent at the base of the setting. Again, in to the jeweller… this time almost in tears and so so frustrated… “I just want to have a ring that doesn’t break… it hasn’t even been a year yet”. The jeweller encouraged me to send it back to James Allen to be reset with a sturdier setting. They said this should not be happening and JA “set me up for failure” giving me this setting with this size of diamond. I then reached out to JA hoping to have the ring repaired and speak about my setting options. I was shocked to find out the warranty only covers prong tightening, cleaning and sodium re-plating. I explained my situation and how I felt like the setting was too delicate for the diamond and this wasn’t my fault. They offered no solution and said that “options can be discussed when we get the ring and the jeweller looks at it”. Being in Canada, I was told this process would take 6-8 weeks and again… cost for shipping + repairs at my expense. I declined this option and am opting to have my ring reset at my local jeweller who I trust. I attempted to return the band and setting to JA and was told that they do not accept returns at this point… less than a year later.
In summary, James Allen’s “lifetime warranty” covers nothing. Your ring may inevitably break because JA lets you choose settings and diamonds that should not be paired together (unknowingly to the customer). When this happens they do not cover any repairs, even if not the customers fault. Additionally, the do not take returns even within the same year. I highly suggest you save the headache and go to a jeweller who can give you personalized advice. I cannot explain how frustrating and emotional this has been for my fiancé and I.
DO NOT BUY FROM JAMES ALLEN.
I bought an engagement ring for my fiancée a year ago and as happy as I was with the initial ring, it has started to fall apart after 1 year of light wear and James Allen customer service refuses to fix the manufacturing issue under warranty.
They have stated that even a clear manufacturing issue will not be covered.
I will not be going ahead with buying our wedding rings from James Allen and will go out of my way to recommend people do not shop with them.
Poor quality product and poorer quality service
Company rectified situation
Unfortunately, I had an extremely disappointing experience with a wedding band I purchased from James Allen. I made a special order for the band, which arrived five weeks ago. However, after just 2.5 weeks of use, the diamond fell off.
When I contacted customer service, I was informed that their refund policy only covers 30 days from the purchase date. The proposed solution was a repair, but being based abroad, I explained that I didn't have sufficient time to wait for the piece to be fixed. Despite speaking with the manager and explaining my predicament, no additional solutions were offered beyond suggesting I take it to a local jeweler for repair. Unfortunately, the diamond is lost, making local repair virtually impossible.
When I expressed my intention to share my experience with James Allen, the manager shockingly responded, "It's fine if you leave a bad comment." This dismissive attitude and lack of empathy were deeply disappointing. It appears that because I am not residing in the US, my concerns were not considered a priority.
I have never encountered such unprofessionalism from a company, which seemed indifferent to resolving my issue. This experience has left me feeling undervalued as a customer. The quality of the product is not good, customer service is awful. Until they receive the money they pretend to care but once the transaction is done, they no longer care about anything even if it is their fault. l don't recommend anyone making a purchase from James Allen.
Lab diamond ring was purchased (Feb) and a few weeks later (March) lab diamonds went on sale. At the time, reached out and was told they couldn’t adjust price but rather I could send the ring back as I was still within the 30 day return window. Seemed like too much hassle so didn’t go that route. Fast forward to today, I find out they do have a 30 day price adjustment policy. I request they do the adjustment now, since they failed to do it for me then. They agree and even attempt a refund (which didn’t successfully go through). I’m then contacted again and told they won’t be doing the price adjustment after all. I reach out again and they can’t seem to figure it out. I’m told they would’ve done it then, but not now. Then why wasn’t it done then when I reached out in March?? I’m then told they can’t help me because the ring’s setting was on sale in Feb. I’ve spoken to multiple people now and nobody seems to care or can figure it out. Inconsistent, unreliable, disappointing and misleading. Will be going elsewhere for wedding bands now and any other jewelry
I can only recommend James Allen for new orders. However, when you use the upgrade program and they lose your item in shipping, you find out what "fully insured" really means.
Because the upgrade program usually requires remaking the setting to accommodate the new loose diamond, there is a non-refundable fee to perform that service. This is fine, standard, reasonable.
The item was sent to an FPO address. It was lost at customs. Once they spent 3 months looking for the ring, they couldn't/didn't share anything about their investigation, they said it was lost and gave me some options. I was offered a $150 discount to the next item after some groveling.
Here's the rub, all my options resulted in paying more to receive less than what I had. Because the resizing was a non-refundable service. Note that I did choose a larger diamond the second time around and that is accounted for. Here's what I sent them.
Resizing fee: This was a service contracted out by James Allen, benefited by James Allen, and ultimately not delivered by James Allen to us as the recipient. I have just paid $340 and seen zero value as the service results were not delivered to me and not covered by James Allen's insurance.
Sales tax: James Allen's website specifically states guaranteed shipping internationally via USPS or Fedex. Because of the extreme delay in our order (ring sent to James Allen on Dec 20th, 2023, it is now May 16th), lack of transparency with how the items were provided to customs, we will no longer be able to ship it to our FPO address and will incur sales tax as we are moving to California under military orders.
Scenarios:
1) Take the insurance claim
- Overall: I pay a $340 resizing fee for items not delivered.
2) Remake the wedding band and engagement ring, receive original diamond
- I pay a $340 resizing fee for items not delivered.
- Forced to pay sales tax for items I owned and provided to James Allen.
- Overall: I pay $471 to receive my original items ($1810 * 7.25% CA sales tax + resizing fee)
3) Proceed with new loose diamond and remaking of band and ring
- I pay a $340 resizing fee for items not delivered.
- Pay sales tax on items I previously owned and provided to James Allen
- Pay sales tax on new loose diamond due to James Allen not delivering the package on time.
- Pay higher sales tax due to the credit from the upgrade program for the original loose diamond not being applied.
- Overall: I pay $1513.42 for a loose diamond value difference of $650 ($11,030 vs $11,680 )
James Allen's response: Hi Robert,
I have heard back from the office director. She has confirmed there are no additional discounts or credits we can offer. We can proceed with the replacement order as is with the balance due, you can select a different diamond that is lower priced to fall within the credits we have offered or we can cancel and refund. I am sorry I was not able to get anything more for you. Let me know how you would like to proceed.
This is an insurance issue. Your items are not fully insured.
Option 1 is not great, I just paid a jeweler I never met to do anything and then throw away a ring.
Option 2 sucks because I have to pay to have my original items remade and returned to me for something that James Allen caused.
So I'm left with Option 3 - I can't get my original items back, I can cut my losses and make it so James Allen and I lose and the random jeweler has another tuesday, or I can just go along knowing that diamonds be diamonds.
Which option would you have chosen?
Buyer beware. James Allen does not stand behind their products. Spent $5k on a ring and 4 months later the diamond came loose. My wife sent it in for them to repair and they said the diamond was damaged and said she must have dropped it down the garbage disposal or ran over it with a car. Not sure how any of that was possible since the setting itself wasn't damaged (neither was my wife's hand which the ring never left). James Allen insisted it was our fault and said they couldn't do anything other than help us choose a replacement diamond, as if we'd buy another diamond from a company unwilling to stand behind it's product. Even worse, they suggested replacing the diamond with a $50 cubic Zirconia. Seriously, it was bad enough they didn't stand behind their inferior product, but the relentlessgaslighting on top of everything else was even worse.
I wish I saw all the 1 star reviews here before we bought. That's on me, but you've been warned.
I bought a platinum ring, $5,400, and within 3 years it completely broke in 8 places! JA did not stand behind their poor quality product, kept blaming me, and wanted me to pay $1,200 to repair it. No human could intentionally do that much damage to a ring. I brought it to a local jewelry designer who confirmed it was porous (air in the platinum which would cause breakage) and badly casted. Very poor quality and terrible customer service.
My husband got me a lab-diamond per my request. They are WAY less expensive and have the same exact make-up as mined diamonds. My husband got to customize my engagement ring on their website and literally pick between tons of different diamonds (he got to zoom in and compare all sorts of specs, could see all the flaws, etc.).
This was a much better experience than going to jewelry stores and either getting insulted for requesting a lab-diamond or pressured into buying something overly priced and not as good looking.
Cannot find one fault with the process or the delivered product. It was exactly what I ordered and it was within the window promised. I did have several emails back and forth, but overall things went well.
They have the most snide customer service. Their craftmanship is inferior.
Bad first and last experience with this company. Needed this ring delivered before moving out of state and kept getting contradicting answers from the crappy customer reps and learning that I paid too much for the ring compared to other reputable companies after it was too late to return. Wasn’t worth the anxiety this company caused and would have never chosen here if I could do it all over again.
Do NOT recommend James Allen.
My husband had purchased my engagement ring from James Allen back in 2015 (round solitaire in a pave band, platinum, value $8k+). After just 6 months of wear, and I have a desk job, the band turned oval. Thought it was a one time deal, sent it to them for repair and to size .5 smaller thinking it was the sizing that was causing it. After finally getting my ring back, another 6 months later, it went oval again but this time I just lived with it. A couple years later, I lost pave diamonds off the band but used a local jeweler to fix it. Now 8 years later, the band has completely split at the bottom and I can no longer wear it. I took it to my local jeweler to hopefully repair it and they said when James Allen fixed it the first time and resized it they overheated the metal so badly there were a ton of air bubbles which related to weakening the band even further. They have to cut out the section that Jame Allen worked on and put in new platinum in its place. I have accepted at this point my ring will never be good and I will eventually have to get a whole new setting. Wherever James Allen lies in the affordability spectrum it's just simply not worth it for all the repairs I've had, now having to eventually replace the band, and the aggravation. Save yourself the headache.
At first, the ring was beautiful and I was happy with James Allen, until one of the diamonds fell out of my ring and I sent it in for servicing. after a month and a half, they sent me back an entirely different ring. We called, and they said they actually had no idea how my original ring was made as it was no longer a style they offered. We asked where the original ring was, and they said they just remade the entire ring instead of replacing the small diamond. They promised to make it right, so we sent the ring back and waited another two and a half months. And that's when the ring came back wrong again. And then this repeated one more time before I was so fed up that I called and demanded a refund. This process took two days and they agreed under threat of getting a lawyer involved in this problem. I ended up having a local jeweler recreate my original ring, and she did it with ease. So why was James Allen unable to recreate the ring they both made and destroyed? the answer is I don't know, and they don't either. I've been married six months, and I have been without my ring for five of those months thanks to the terrible ring makers at James Allen.
I got engaged 12/22/22, 5 days later 2 pave stones were missing.. Took 3 weeks for them to fix, once I received it after 6 days two stones again missing .. . don't waste your money
DO NOT order based off the reviews on the James Allen website. They delete all negative reviews. I Placed my order on 9/07/2022 with the expected delivery day being 9/19/2022. Just in time for a surprise engagement photo shoot. As of today (10/25/2022) after two cancelled “surprise” engagement photoshoots I have yet to receive my order or any kind of update on what might be causing the delays. I would not recommend going with James Allen at all.
My fiancé bought my engagement ring last year at James Allen. We were thinking of upgrading the center stone diamond and had an appointment set for last Thursday (9/8/22) to go into their Georgetown store and look at 2 loose diamonds. Last Wednesday just before 5pm they abruptly cancelled our appointment for the next morning and asked if we can reschedule for the following week. It turns out they sent the diamonds to us at the address they had on file, I had picked up a package for my partner, in his name, and came home with it around 10pm. We tried emailing JA Wednesday night and calling but nobody returned to us. They should have sent the package to their store but instead sent it directly to us. James Allen was sending my partner threatening emails and calls Wednesday night before we knew about this package and he was confused because he didn’t have a package and there weren’t any deliveries on our ring camera at our house. Thursday morning when they finally got back to us we told them we recovered the package that they mailed to Jake, in his name, but this was pretty serious situation because they sent it to one of my rental properties and a tenant could have taken it. They then told us we need to bring them into the store or put a label on it and drop it off at Fedex to make up for their errors on our own time. We told them how they ruined our trip to DC by cancelling the appointment, we had a hotel and a ton of things planned that we could no longer do since we were in Pittsburgh on the phone with them about these diamonds. James Allen did not care about any inconvenience they caused after we did the right thing and told them we have their package of $8k worth of diamonds.
They told us we would be financially responsible for the diamonds while they’re in our possession until we return them. We did not ask for this burden to be placed on us do to mistakes of people at this company. At this point they started treating us like criminals and not like clients who have spent thousands of dollars with them previously. They then sent an email Friday night saying if they don’t have the diamonds Monday by 12pm they will be getting legal counsel involved and possibly the police. Demanding return of unordered merchandise falls under federal code 39 USC 3009 (since it was mailed from NY to our address in PA but was supposed to be mailed to Georgetown in DC) and is illegal for businesses to do. We never solicited this merchandise be mailed to our house and this company has threatened to sue us and get the police involved over their errors. They had their lawyer contact us with a threatening email saying she will take “all available legal remedies” against us including civil court and local law enforcement. Our lawyer advised that even though James Allen is in the wrong, us paying legal fees and the stress of this situation isn’t worth it. The harassment, threats, and treatment from James Allen to make up for their errors is insulting. To compensate, they have offered $100 credit if we buy one of the diamonds, yet that doesn’t even cover gas to get to their store after they cancelled our original appointment. All we asked for was compensation for our time and money spent during this fiasco and James Allen refused and continued to threaten legal action. This is a terrible company to work with and we have turned them into the FTC for their unlawful acts so hopefully they don’t put more customers in this situation.
I love all of my James Allen rings. I got my engagement ring and both our wedding bands there. My favorite is their 30 day return policy even for custom made rings. I wanted a round natural black diamond (which you can choose with their amazing high quality 360 viewer thing) in a rose gold setting. I had never seen it before in any store so I was nervous to custom make a non-refundable ring I had never seen. Loved it and didn’t return it! My rings are beautiful and I was so happy with the service both for resizing (didn’t take that long, maybe a month?) and their great customer service.
I paid for my diamond for them to reject my order and refused to manually refund me my money.
End up giving me a lot of stress & troubles having to run around from the police station to make a report and then to the bank to get my chargeback done.
My order is JA4674774
I can provide every receipts and chat screenshots for this horrible experience
James Allen looked great, until I gave them my money. At the order I saw a short creation date for an engagement ring. Great. After paying they extended this by a week, not so great but okay.
As the date had passed the date kept increasing.
I contacted them to ask if there was an estimate and was told that there was no creation date known and they had major delays. Fair enough, they've been honest. So I ask to cancel and refund my order.
Then.... they miraculously ship my cancelled order without my permission.
Despite them not knowing when it may be created and having cancelled the order they mistakenly create and ship the ring. Okay, they can work it out with the courier and sort their mistake.
But no, I have been waiting weeks for them to rectify their mistake and they refuse to refund the money until they can sort out their mistake. A wonderful life event ruined by multiple mistakes.
AVOID if possible, there are better and cheaper outfits available if ordering from abroad. Strongly suggest doing your research as they are unable to get an order right.
Awful experience and quality -- do NOT purchase a ring from James Allen. I received a James Allen engagement ring 7 months ago. It's been in the shop for repair or out of commission for 20-30% of the time I've had it. The diamond continuously becomes loose so I can't wear the ring. I've visited Jared multiple times and also sent the ring to James Allen for repair. The last time I sent it in was November and it took a month and multiple follow-up calls/emails/reviews before I received any information from customer service about the repair status. A manager assured me that the ring would be fully fixed and I wouldn't have any more issues but, if I do, they would re-make my band and setting. Less than a month later (January), the diamond was loose and rattling in the setting again. When I reached out to that same manager, she told me there was no guarantee I would receive my ring repaired in time for my wedding in March. She also refused to refund the cost of my band so I could get the band and setting remade elsewhere in a timely manner before my wedding.
This is the product quality and customer service you get when you pay tens of thousands for an engagement ring from James Allen.
STAY AWAY!!! They look slick and professional on their web site but their actual business and customer support is a disaster. They say it takes weeks to ship a simple band but it's been a month with no updates or clear responses. I've seen so many similar reviews.
Save yourself the headache with such an important purchase!
Be very careful before you buy from this jeweler. I purchased an engagement ring in July and the issues started. Their "real time" tracking is a joke and they don't actually update you on what's happening. My ring went from "New" to "Quality Assurance" and back to new without explanation (probably due to the ring not passing inspection) but with no indication as to what happened. This was going to cause a delay to my proposal plans until I called them and raised issue. Then they informed me what happened and tried to assist, but only after I called. The customer service rep I spoke to ARGUED with me about their lack of notifications or explanations. I spoke with their management and got it sorted.
Then it finally shipped and I had issues there as well (not James Allen's fault but FedEx's). I proposed, she said yes, and the ring didn't fit perfectly. No problem, I sent it back for resizing. Got it back and the emerald is now chipped... I contacted customer service and they refuse to take responsibility for it (saying it was chipped when I originally bought it), despite my fiance not being able to wear the ring since purchase and it being in it's box whenever we've had it. It was perfect when I received it initially. Now I'm 3 days past my 30 day return date, despite James Allen having the ring for most of that time, and so far there is nothing I can do. I paid a lot of money for a damaged ring that they refuse to fix without charging me or even accepting responsibility for damaging.
The link to the emerald preview showing no damage: https://www.jamesallen.com/gemstones/green-emerald/1.43-carat-oval-sku-36734
The ring is perfect in terms of design but the quality and customer service has been janky to say the least. Beware of buying from this company.
Buyer beware: James Allen customer service leaves much to be desired. For a company selling diamonds, the customer service should be *at least* as good as Amazon's customer support and it sure isn't.
I'm ready to cry. And my best advice is to go with Blue Nile. Even in a pandemic, their customer service is strong and they've offered to make sure we have nearly-identical replacement rings by this weekend. They recognize that they need to make arrangements as a business to support ongoing customer demand. JA is operating standard 50% capacity and doesn't care.
My fiancée and I spent tens of thousands on our rings at JA. She decided she didn't like her band, so I sent it back and requested that the diamond be returned. Despite James Allen receiving it last week and me following up twice to request timing and explain the importance of receiving the diamond back by Friday, no dice. Our engagement photos are supposed to be this weekend and if left to JA, she probably won't have her ring.
We have been trying like mad to just get the diamond sent back to us to have it reset. We're out of town this weekend for my future MIL's bday (don't worry, we're social distancing and staying separately!). We had planned to have my brother wait at my place for the diamond, take it to a local jeweler to have it reset, and then drive two hours to get it to us. The local jeweler knew the situation and committed to helping. James Allen can't guarantee a date, despite escalating this to a supervisor. I don't know what to say other than "what the heck?!"
Don't buy from here. Seriously. Don't. No matter how perfect you think the ring is, it's likely that you're going to need to have something changed. A quarter size difference or a different setting or a change of diamond...any number of things could come up. When you're newly engaged, the last thing you want is to send your ring away for weeks. Trust me when I say that your fiancée will be much happier with the customer service you get elsewhere. Literally, anywhere else.
I wanted to love James Allen, I found a great diamond at a great price. I ordered it, had some shipping delays, missed the estimated arrival date by almost 2 weeks, but I had read the reviews and knew this was a possibility and had even anticipated it somewhat so I wasn’t too upset about that. My real issue with them comes from their billing practices and customer service. JA uses a partner called SplitIt to allow folks use that as a payment method, 3 payments over 3 months, no interest, they just hold the amount on your credit line. Sounds great in theory right? Until they double charge your last payment and claim they have no record. JA of course blamed SplitIt for over a month claiming it was on them, SplitIt turning back on JA and so on and so forth. But after 6 chat sessions of JA promising to have someone contact me back (lies), and failing to do so at all... I finally decided to lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau - to which JA claimed to have contacted me asking for information that they had been unable to obtain (yes, more lies) so I responded with read receipts and the very next day I was contacted by JA with a refund receipt from their credit card processor (JetPay) to refund the overpayment... so I guess their blame of SplitIt was another lie then too? I also received a very brief, glossed over apology that it “took so long” said they “dropped the ball” and were sorry their customer service “did not meet their standards.” The overcharged amount by the way? $1378. Not exactly pocket change so I’m sure you can understand why I might sound salty.
TL;DR?
Poor experience, I wanted to be a repeat customer but cannot in good conscience recommended this company.
My now-husband purchased my engagement ring and matching wedding band from James Allen. I had originally found a setting I liked on their website and was unable to find a comparable design at other jewelry stores. Since he proposed, I've received numerous compliments on my engagement band (mostly asking whether it is vintage) and they've been surprised to hear that James Allen is online-only. The platform was very convenient for my husband to purchase from and he liked being able to pick out a diamond separately. It was such a smooth experience that we'd highly recommend them!
We got my engagement ring, wedding band & his wedding band from James Allen and have been impressed with the quality and service the whole time!
First off, I would like to say that the help I received in selecting my engagement ring was top notch. They were polite and helpful. I would also like to state that I have never reviewed anything...ever. This would be my first time. But I felt obligated to share (and hopefully get a response).
So I chose a beautiful diamond and setting for my soon to be fiancé. It was gorgeous. Unfortunately, the inscription I requested to have put on the ring was something they would not do. It's not that they couldn't do it. They just chose not to do it based on one individual word that I had chosen (it is an inside, long-standing joke between me and my girlfriend...and I can assure you that the word is not vulgar). So, after some thought, I decided to cancel my order that was placed and paid for in full, 24 hours prior. Obviously there were no goods or services exchanged so there was no "return" involved, nor did they even start on the ring. I was Just due a refund of about $12,000 (that was wired to them in the beginning). Furthermore, I have an upcoming vacation to the Dominican Republic in which I am planning on proposing. Well, that vacation is coming up in 30 days. And I don't have a ring. I need to place an order with an alternative jeweler (that has no problem inscribing what I want on MY ring). Well, as you know, it takes time to make a ring, ship it, etc. I also have to pay for said ring. And unfortunately, I cannot at this time. That is because James Allen is refusing to issue me a check in a timely manner. I have received numerous excuses and reasons why they have not issued me a refund of my $12000. First I was told the check was sent out 8 days ago, then I'm being told it hasn't been written yet. They are telling me it takes 2-3 weeks to issue me a refund. I even asked to have it expedited. I bank wired them the money...and they still haven't written me my check. On top of it, they are being very deceptive about the whole refund. Why would it take 2-3 weeks to issue a check? I wired them the money and they had it instantly in their account. Now, I am running the risk of not having an engagement ring on the vacation that am proposing on! All because James Allen refuses to refund me my money. I thought this whole process was supposed to be fun and exciting. I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, due to James Allen, the experience has been terrible. I will continue to leave reviews about my experience. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB regarding deceptive business practices. I will continue to tell my story to everyone I know. (I work in a big office, for a big company). I will discourage as many people as possible from doing business with James Allen. The sad part is, all of this could have been avoided. And...I will try to be the better person, if I get this resolved immediately, I will redact every review and complaint that I have filed. All I want is my money back...so that I can buy an engagement ring...so that I can propose to the most beautiful, best woman in the world.
Wow, amazing customer service and amazing product. Once I had my engagement ring picked out, ordered and in hand we went to a local GIA certified gemologist to make sure it was of the quality we were told. That it was! It appraised about 30% higher than what we paid for it. The ring has been fantastic over the last year and has been commented on many times. We ended up getting our wedding bands for both of us from James Allen as well - will DEFINATELY recommend them to anyone looking for jewelry.
We got my engagement ring and our wedding bands from James Allen and we love them!
My husband bought my engagement ring from here and after resizing it my diamonds came loose and fell out 3 days before my wedding! When I called to see what I could do since we had purchased insurance and a warranty they said all we could do is send it in and wait 3 weeks! No sympathy and horrible customer service!
James Allen's website is fantastic! It allows you to pick your diamond and view it up close. The site is easy to navigate and has beautiful options. I'm so happy with my engagement ring and my wedding band!
I bought my fiancé her engagement ring on JamesAllen.com. After going to the NYC showroom, reviewing all of the options, and speaking to a specialist I felt that I had chosen the perfect ring, and paid more than $15k for it. Unfortunately, within the first 6 months of owning the ring, it snapped apart right next to the setting. Thankfully the diamond was not harmed, but I had to send it in for a complete band replacement which took several weeks. The replacement ring they sent was sent back with the wrong band, so we were forced to send it back and wait another 3-4 weeks. Finally, after 6-8 weeks we received the fixed ring. With the new ring in hand, we assumed there would be no further issues. It has now been ~8 months since we got the new ring, and it has broken again! This time, the band has warped into a very weird shape, and one of the diamonds on the band fell off. As I paid a premium for a platinum band, it is shocking that it would break once every 6 months. It makes me extremely nervous that this ring will ever make it for the next year, let alone another 60 years of marriage! The quality of James Allen rings is much lower than I expected when I purchased, and my wife and I are extremely disappointed. I am nervous to even send it back in for replacement, knowing it will most likely break in another 6 months. Make sure to do all due diligence before buying from James Allen.
I bought my wedding band from them as they were the cheapest out there for a platinum ring. I had to get it resized and I had no issues during the ordering, receiving, reshipping and receiving again. My band isn't perfect for my Art Deco ring from the 1920s but it flows and is a good match, for now. I plan to come back & look for a knife edge platinum ring to better match it.
I have had 2 diamonds fall out of my halo setting in the 1.5 year I've had my engagement ring. They have fixed both times but this should not have happened at all. My ring is gorgeous, but I should not be scared to wear it in fear of losing stones. I am careful and take my ring off and store it properly. If you go with this company, make sure to invest in good jewelry insurance.
Excellent diamond with excellent service! My fiance said he spent countless hours online learning everything he could possibly learn about diamonds. It's actually quite impressive! Needless to say, he made his final decision to settle on a James Allen engagement ring. It's perfect and certified as internally flawless. Their customer service didn't pressure him into buying a ring with a diamond that costed more, even while he was considering to do so. They explained to him the one he chose is the best choice for my rose gold band due to the reflection in the light, etc. I'm not sure all the details but he was super satisfied with this company. I was so surprised and I couldn't be happier! My vintage band is unique and the diamond has so many gorgeous cuts & dimensions inside. It's mesmorizing! We plan to buy the matching wedding band from James Allen as well.
Both our wedding bands, and my engagement ring, came from James Allen Jewelers and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the quality and service that we had with this business. The diamonds were beautiful, and the presentation of the rings when delivered was so exciting and wonderful. They offered overnight delivery, free of charge, along with discount codes for future purchases. It was a great experience working with the James Allen company and I high recommend them!
I'm sure I'm some kind of outlier, as the company generally has good reviews... That being said, I personally had a terrible experience. The short version was that their PayPal accounting department made a very large error, one that stated that they had not received the payment, for which i had to fill out multiple forms with PayPal to confirm. I contacted 2 employees who were both very disinterested in fixing the situation, the first one I didn't get any information on the second was an hblank@jamesallen.com, who both stated that they showed that they had not received the money. I had to contact my bank and PayPal twice to confirmn payment, as my account was missing the 2300ish that I payed for the engagement ring. I was forced to email their PayPal department directly since I was receiving 0 help from the other customer service representatives that claimed that they would get back with me with information, which they did not. In the email I detailed that I would be activating PayPal s buyer protection, contacting the FBI for the crime of embezzlement across state lines, and contacting the better business beurea with a report of my situation. I did receive an email back stating that they were sorry, different representative this time, and that their PayPal department had left for the day, would not cancel my order, and would contact and tomorrow. I replied that was fine, but had lost faith that they would do the things that they said. Approximately 20 hours later I received a notice that they had received my money and would be sending my ring. It is quite lovely, but was not worth the experience that I had to go through to get the ring. There was no service recovery or apology or discount offered for their failures of basic math and my receiving the product approximately 7 days later than originally stated because of a screw up on their end. This feview was posted to bizrate and will be going to other sites as well at this time
I ordered my wedding band from James Allen for my May 2017 wedding and it was perfect! I was looking for a good quality, simple band and found it on their site. I'm eager to browse and purchase more from them- I would highly recommend!
My husband and I bought our wedding bands from James Allen and had a great experience. Ordering was very easy and customer service was very helpful. We ended up exchanging my first band for a different style and the return was also easy and fast. We highly recommend James Allen for any jewelry needs.
First, they have quality products, so if you order from them, you will receive an item that is beautiful. I'm giving such a low rating is because their customer service is horrible. My engagement ring is from them and I'm very happy with it. My fiance and I just ordered our wedding bands, which has been a terrible experience. First, our order was delayed. We're still a few months from the wedding, so we thought it wasn't a huge deal. The problem is, the band that we ordered doesn't match my engagement ring. As it turns out, the matching wedding bands aren't listed with the rest of the wedding bands, which is where a normal person would look, right? That's what we did, but the one that we ordered that appeared to match my engagement ring didn't. Apparently they try to "make it easy" and they put the link to the matching wedding band on the page below the engagement ring and that's the only place you'll find it. I don't know about you, but my fiance would never in a million years remember that the link to the matching band was there.
Unfortunately, we bought our rings during a sale, which ended the day before our order was delivered. Had our order not been delayed, we could've exchanged it for the right one and gotten the discount, but since the sale has ended, they will not honor the sale price on the exchange so we have to pay full price. My fiance and I both feel like this is a terrible policy, since we would've been able to get the discount had the order been delivered on time or the ring be listed in a less obscure location. I even tried talking to the supervisor in their call center, Maddie, who was extremely rude and did not care one bit. She actually said it was our fault that we ordered the wrong ring in the first place and that we should've known to check the page with the engagement ring. She wouldn't budge and kept repeating that it was our fault. Due to this, we're returning for refund and we will NEVER do business with them again.
Do business with this company at your own risk. If you do, God forbid you need something, you won't get far.
My husband ordered my engagement ring from James Allen and then we loved it so much we decided to order our wedding bands from here as well. We are so impressed. He loved the ability to really look at the diamonds and decide on one that he wanted. The customer service was top notch. His band was slightly too big and it was not problem to send it in to be adjusted. If you don't mind ordering online then this is the place to find your wedding rings!
I purchased my husband's simple (comfort fit) platinum wedding band from James Allen during a Valentine's day promo earlier this year. He's not used to wearing rings and reacted somewhat poorly to a 5mm in a local store, so I liked that they had a 4.5mm option. That's his fancy/special occasion band (he has a Triton/white tungsten band for everyday wear.). Opted for the engraving and was a little annoyed that the number of characters was so limited. His tungsten band allowed for more and I liked the font better (but that was laser because it was tungsten). Overall happy with my purchase and experience!
I am overall extremely happy with my James Allen experience, their website makes it easy to purchase a diamond, you can see each diamond, and magnify the diamond x 20 which makes it that much easier to choose an "eye clean" diamond. The diamonds are competitively priced, and customer service was easy to deal with. The only con (which is not a very big concern to us) is that it did take one week more than expected to receive a diamond/ring but when we finally received it we were beyond pleased with the setting, quality and presentation. Highly recommended!
My fiancé bought my engagement ring from James Allen, and it is amazing! He really did his homework, and put a lot of care into picking out the diamonds and design. He created me a beautifully unique ring with conflict free diamonds! I definitely plan on buying the wedding band they recommend to go with my unique ring. James Allen truly takes care of their customers!
My fiance had gotten my engagement ring through James Allen and I loved it so much I had to have the matching wedding band. This is an online store only so I went to a store in the mall to get sized. I ordered my wedding band only 20 days before my wedding (and only 17 days before I left for my destination wedding) so I was nervous that it might not be ready in time. I spoke to customer service and they assured me that it would only take 10 days for the ring to be ready and then it would be shipped overnight. It arrived exactly when they said it would and was absolutely perfect. I was very pleased with the excellent customer service and would definitely use James Allen again.
I bought a loose diamond from the website. Everything about the experience was great, and I loved that you could look at the diamonds on the site. Shipping was excellent. My diamond arrived one day after my wire transfer went through the bank in a very secure, beautiful package. My diamond is gorgeous and just as pictured on the website. I highly recommend them!
I've known for a long time I wanted an Emerald Cut Sapphire for my engagement ring. I'd had hopes of getting a stone found during a gem mining date cut and polished for this purpose. However, it seemed that the stones we had may not be gem quality and would end up looking like rocks. At first I was afraid that I would have to settle for a lab-created sapphire due to the cost. We searched for a natural sapphire and found one at James Allen. We had it set in a vintage band that looks like the infinity symbol. We also got the matching band. I absolutely love it! James Allen provided an excellent presentation, both rings arrived each in a red lacquer box in a larger display box along with the appraisal. Prior to setting, a new mold had to be cast to ensure the perfect mounting. They kept us informed throughout the process. Excellent company with excellent service.
Both my engagement ring and wedding band were purchased from James Allen. We have both been married before so I had the luxury of picking out my engagement ring. I did my homework and checked local jewelry stores but ended up with James Allen because of the reviews. I liked the idea that I was able to pick out my diamonds for the settings. When I received my engagement ring I was so pleased that I went back and bought my wedding band from them. The only thing I was just a bit dismayed with is that my fiance is a larger man and the rings only seemed to go up to size 14. If they had his size we would of bought his ring from them as well. James Allen also has people standing by so that you can communicate with them with any questions that you may have. I will not hesitate to buy from them again in the future.
I have a unique engagement ring and a wedding band to match.
My husband ordered my engagement ring from James Allen and we went back later and ordered our wedding bands from James Allen as well. My husband was very please with his experience. He liked that they gave him so many personalization options and that he could pick out the engagement band in any metal and then choose the diamond that would be set in the ring. He said that their Education Center was very helpful for getting information on how to pick out the perfect diamond.
Their customer service was great as well. They spent the time to walk my husband through the entire process. My husband had a lot of back and forth with one of their reps and he said the rep was always so helpful. They also offer one free ring resizing for each ring, which was very helpful since I told my husband I was a 5.5 and I'm actually a 4.5... Even better, after we got the 4.5 ring back, I realized that I was allergic to the metal. They were kind enough to let us exchange it for a platinum ring and covered all the shipping costs even though they were not obliged to. They made the whole exchanging rings process so easy.
After our whole engagement ring snafoo with the size and metal, there was no doubt that we would get our wedding bands from James Allen. The bands are so nice.
We will definitely be shopping with James Allen again!
My husband got my beautiful engagement ring from James Allen after getting one from another online ring company, and not being satisfied. James Allen let him pick a specific diamond, and even see it up close. It turned out beautifully. Our wedding rings were just as amazing! And you can't beat the prices. There is no extra cost margin that you get when buying from a local jeweler. I would recommend using this service to anyone!
I wanted an oval diamond with a halo and it was so hard to find. James Allen had an oval setting at the best price we could find. I love my ring!
I've had the BEST experience with James Allen. My ring is gorgeous, and I get compliments on it from complete strangers! The customer service is very helpful, and the quality of the jewelry is top notch in my opinion. I'm considering purchasing a pair of diamond studs from them because the quality is so evident. I highly recommended this jeweler.
Great price! I got a small simple band and it was about $200. They are strictly online. I liked that, but it may not be for everyone.
James Allen was a choice my husband made when searching for the best ring/diamond he could find for the best value... and what a great decision! The customer service was great, offering free ring sizing and returns since they are a solely online company. The diamond is exactly as described, and they offered us 10% off wedding bands since my engagement ring was purchased from them. The bands came on time, and when we found a little scuff on my husband's, JA took it back and buffed it out before the big day.
We ordered my wedding band from James Allen, an online site. Same place where my hubby got my engagement ring. Arrived within 7 days of ordering, perfect size and engravement.
My fiancé picked out my engagement ring here (without any input from me) and it is completely stunning. He spoke with someone at James Allen a few times before he purchased my ring and said they quick and extremely helpful. I get compliments all the time on my ring. When he got the ring he also got an appraisal with the ring that was more than he paid. It came overnight in a beautiful wood box and had one of those things jewelers use to look at diamonds with. I had to get my ring sized smaller, it was a quick and easy process. We couldn't be more pleased.
