I used Kathy G for my wedding and it was an awful experience. In hindsight, I can see how they had a good front in order to get my deposit, and after that was paid I was ignored, misled, and treated poorly. We were so pressured to "place a deposit because they will get booked up" and we were not offered a tasting prior to booking - which we feel so silly for not thinking of, but we had never gotten married before and relied on industry experts to guide us (don't believe these caterers have your best interest in mind - they do not and we felt that). The tasting was shocking and extremely underwhelming. I had asked for guidance on a menu because I had no idea where to start. We did express our concerns after the meeting, and were offered very minimal guidance. Then, I could not get responses from them all summer and my emails went ignored for weeks. I was made to feel like I was bothering them when I only needed to know simple answers so I could let other vendors know what was going on. The lack of communication caused me the most stress of my entire wedding and I would not wish it on another bride. When I did make contact with my Kathy G employee, it wasn't very pleasant (my opinion). Now some facts - About 2 weeks before my wedding, they tell me "well, you know the menu you picked out is only 'light bites' and not actual dinner food, right?" WHAT. How would I know that?? Why are you only telling me this now? And only once I broke down crying on the phone did she offer an ounce of compassion. The entire process also felt like I was in an imbalance of power - I was locked into a deposit with a company who did not care about my wedding and I had to "play nice" so they wouldn't ruin my day. Finally, on my wedding day I have only one complaint - the food was terrible. It was nothing we agreed on ("roasted seasonal vegetables" = "green beans from a can"; "fluffy dinner rolls" = "stale bread the size of a quarter", etc."). I had to work very hard to block out my disappointment for the night. It's truly a travesty that you pays thousands to a company and then if they do not deliver on their end, there's not refund or recourse or something to make things right. All I have is this review where I can speak my truth.

My daughter’s wedding was held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens with the reception following at The Gardens Cafe. While I would not recommend the gardens as a wedding venue, I wholeheartedly recommend The Gardens Cafe as a reception venue. The food was excellent, the staff was very professional, and the setting was just lovely. I can’t imagine how it could have been any nicer. Jason was a dream to work with, recommending vendors for the ceremony in the gardens when I could not get their Events Coordinator to recommend anyone. He also, through their catering arm Kathy Gs, catered our rehearsal dinner at Avondale brewery. The setup was lovely, and once again the food was excellent, and the servers were perfect. The menu consisted of traditional southern fare which included the best macaroni and cheese I, or any of my guests, have ever tasted. A wonderful experience.

Jason, and the team at Kathy G. catered our Birmingham, Alabama wedding reception on May 29th, 2021. From the start, Kathy G. was incredibly responsive and very easy to work with. They went out of their way to help us design a menu that fit all of our needs and desires. We even had the opportunity to visit to pick out specific linens and chargers to add a special touch to our reception. After we had our menu and game plan put together, Kathy G. and their team delivered big time, with fantastic service and delicious food on our wedding day. Thank you Kathy G. and team for a wonderful wedding reception dinner! We would recommend Kathy G. to absolutely anyone looking to cater their next event.

Annie Kate who work(ed) at Kathy G did a fantastic job helping us pick out the right menu and answering all of our questions. She was quick to respond when we postponed our wedding to next year. I’m so excited for the big day at the Gardens Cafe!

No complaints; food was great, set up was great, and Natalie made everything so easy and painless. Everyone loved the food, especially the shrimp & grit bites served during our cocktail hour. Would recommend to anyone who wants to worry about food as little as possible. Staff also made sure the groom & I got to eat before the receptions which was great for such a busy day

I highly recommend this company! They catered my wedding reception on March 30, 2019 at the Garden’s Cafe at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Everything was set up so beautifully and the food was absolutely delicious! All of the guests could not stop talking about how great everything was. The staff is super friendly and professional and the all around experience was perfect. Please consider them for any event you are planning! They are WELL worth it!

Went above and beyond to help us when our caterer closed his business three weeks prior to our daughter’s wedding! They really handled everything beautifully! The service, the food... everything was amazing!

In the end, the food served was delicious. I got many compliments on the menu. The servers were friendly and the presentation was beautiful. I wasn’t happy that the main course was shoved over in a corner, many of my guests didn’t even try it because they didn’t know it was there, but with better direction that would have not been an issue.

Overall I was pleased with the food and service, but i will say that the food could have been warmer. We had heavy appetizers, and some of the hot sandwiches were not hot when it was time to serve them. We also paid extra for appetizers to be passed around while the venue was flipping from ceremony to reception, and that service was not done on time. They started late. Overall, I would recommend them, and it could be that our venue choice limited them...staff was also friendly.

The planning portion via phone and email was easy and hassle free...then the day of came around and the staff was wonderful and accommodating. They handled more details than I imagined needed to be handled. It was a wonderful experience!

Planning a small party for roughly 50 people sounds like a fairly easy task for an event planner, but Kathy G & Company made the process much more time consuming and stressful than I could have ever imagined. My Fiance' and I had to deal with multiple employees in order to finalize all the details. They do not seem to be very organized, nor do they seem to have the proper staffing to handle all the clients needs. I am not going to say that we will never use them again but we will not be calling on them again anytime soon.

Andy would be my pick again and again. He is a joy to interact with and was able to immediately understand my design taste and help create a beautiful look for my wedding. He brings a sophistication and expertise that will put you completely at ease. My only regret was not using him to his full potential, if you need advice or a recommendation on anything related to your big day don't hesitate to call. If I had he would have saved me from a number of headaches that cropped up during the planning process. He is also amazing at keeping to a budget and still making your florals elegant and timeless. I absolutely adored my bouquet and never wanted to let it go, cannot say enough good things. He is the best.

I will be honest, I thought because we weren't using a whole lot of flowers for our ceremony that we wouldn't get great quality. But when Andy brought me the flowers they were gorgeous. I chose fall colors and the flowers that he chose was just beautiful, he made sure that the blue in them really popped and it is noticed in every photograph!

In working with Kathy G Designs, they were extremely accommodating with the special circumstances of my wedding and were very easy to get in touch with. In addition to responsiveness, they were great at listening to what I wanted and were able to execute my ideas from just looking at a few pictures. Everything turned out more beautiful than I had expected, and we didn't have to lift a finger! Wonderful work and I would highly recommend them.

Katelyn was wonderful and so accommodating with everything. They worked within my budget to put together a reception that all my guests would love and remember. The food was beautiful and tasted delicious, and I didn't have to worry about a thing the day of our wedding. Highly recommended vendor!

Yum yum! People are still telling me how wonderful the food was. We had passed hor devours of mini BLTs (which my groom loved!) and mini shrimp cakes. We had a meal of flank steak, polenta, delicious veggies and cheese...everything was plated immaculately. The staff just rolled with the punches that day...we had a few guests who failed to mention that they were vegetarians, but they just whipped something up then and there, and just like that, my picky guest had a new meal. We worked with Natalie, and she's just the best, she was there answering all my emails and phone calls months in advance. And again, people at the wedding just RAVED about the food, it was perfect!

Natalie was helpful and easy to work with. The food was delicious and several guests at my wedding complimented it. The set up could have been a bit more decorative (per my mother) but I thought everything was great. The service was great too.

We really loved the ideas of Kathy G, but when we planned our ideal rehearsal dinner at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the price was outrageous and more expensive than our lavish wedding reception the next night! We loved the modern ideas and sleek appearances, but we ended up creating that and more at the Wine Loft Downtown for less than half the price!
