I understand a lot of people have been more than satisfied with Kayla, and I wish our experience was the same. COVID hit our wedding hard, and due to COVID-19 regulations, my fiancé and I had to switch the date of our wedding from March to Nove...mber (in what would hopefully be a post-Covid world). I reached out to Kayla in December, when we realized our wedding venue could no longer hold our guest count due to the social distancing measures that would still be in place) and asked Kayla if she could work with us and switch our date to November. Kayla informed us we could do that, but insisted that because of "our choice" in changing our date, we would have to put down another deposit--which was $100. First, this wasn't our choice. Second, I inquired whether she was willing to work with us (half the deposit, for instance), as this is obviously a financially difficult time for everyone. She refused to bend, claiming the financial viability of her company. I understand she has to worry about finances, too, but she certainly did not stand to lose any money from us, only gain money, in fact. I also think there was a good possibility that she would have still been able to use the March 27th date, given she does cakes for all sorts of events that could occur on Saturdays, not just weddings.
Moreover, our tasting also felt like a rip off. My fiancé and I brought another couple with us to the tasting, which we informed Kayla we would do, and there was not enough cake, filling, or icing to try the different combinations. I also paid 8 extra dollars on top of the 25 dollar cake tasting fee to try ONE more filling (not sure why this was 8 dollars more?). Other vendors I spoke to were actually willing to waive the cake tasting fees if you purchased a cake and signed a contract as a result of the tasting/consultation, which we did.
In sum, we canceled our contract with Kayla rather than giving her another $100. I feel like Kayla nickel and dimed us. She was not empathetic or willing to work with us. I'm not one to write negative reviews either, but I felt it was my responsibility, given the pandemic is still going on. I think this is important information for anyone choosing a cake vendor at this time.
