Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art

As Mother-of-the-Groom, I had the responsibility of organizing my son's rehearsal dinner from 600 miles away. Luckily, Kemper Museum's Assistant Manager of Special Events, Natasha Olinetchouk took over and made my responsibility effortless. Natasha made my son and new daughter-in-law’s rehearsal dinner a success. Six months before the rehearsal dinner, my one and only in-person meeting with her consisted of a complete, sample proposal of what I may expect as far as costs. The costs were based on a general head count and included menu choices and bar choices, i.e. open bar vs. cash bar or beer and wine selection to fit my budget. As time flew by and the rehearsal dinner was 1.5 months away, I was nervous about seating arrangements for sit down, plated dinner for almost 60 people in the Atrium. Natasha sent me sample floor seating plans as well as a blank one with measurements, if I chose to draft my own floor plan. I asked if the museum had easels for a 'welcome' poster and 'seating chart' poster. Natasha replied that the museum did and supplied me with 2 easels on the evening. She helped me play a video during the cocktail 1/2 hour too. The evening of the dinner, naturally I anticipated toasts. The Atrium seemed to be cavernous and noisy. Natasha had the answer as soon as I uttered my worry. A very useful, effective tool, a microphone was presented to me! Everyone could hear from the pastor's blessing of our meal to my welcome toast through the ensuing toasts for the engaged couple from at least 9 people! Natasha answered all my questions in a courteous and timely manner and allayed my fears of trying to put together components of the dinner while I lived out-of-town. Her help, expertise and professionalism as an assistant event manager was invaluable to me. Thank you Natasha for making Friday night, October 18, 2019 a seamless and enjoyable night!

We had a wonderful experience at The Kemper for our reception. Betty and Natasha were fantastic to work with and communicated well. Service during the event was excellent. They took care of everything from set-up to tear down to decorating the tables. I could not have asked for a better experience!

We had both our ceremony and reception at Kemper last Saturday, and it was the best decision ever. The courtyard was perfect for our wedding ceremony, and we received so much compliments from our guests about the amazing art atmosphere, the delicious food and the seamless service. Not only is Kemper a beautiful space, the staff is amazing! I planned my wedding from out of town, and from the first meeting with Betty, I knew this would be no problem, even without hiring a professional wedding planner. There are many moving parts when planning a wedding reception, and the staff at the Kemper anticipated and organized all the details. On the day of my wedding, I never had to give the reception a second thought, and when we entered the venue after the wedding, it took my breath away. Every detail had been taken care of and the tables looked amazing. The drinks and hors d'oeuvres had been served and everyone was enjoying themselves. From start to finish, the event was perfectly executed. We had a sit down meal and all of our guests gave rave reviews on the food, which we chose at a tasting event the Kemper hosts for it's clients. Quality of food was a major concern when choosing a venue, and Cafe Sebastienne created and served an impressive meal. Another issue that we considered was accessibility for our older guests, and The Kemper has fantastic parking and access for guests. The Kemper is really an ideal space for any event-it adds elegance and eliminates the stress of planning!

We loved everything about celebrating our big day at the Kemper. From the great staff, delicious food and drinks to natural light and beauty the museum radiates, it was truly a magical day!! Thank you Kemper team!!!

We looked at every possible wedding venue in Kansas City and couldn't be happier with our choice of the Kemper. The museum is a beautiful location, and guests are literally surrounded by art as the museum itself is open to guests throughout the night. The Kemper is also conveniently located near The Plaza, Westport, and Downtown so that out of town guests can explore Kansas City. Betty and her staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Can't recommend this wedding venue more.

The Kemper Museum's special events staff is the most professional, well organized catering and event planning staff I have EVER worked with! They went the extra mile to ensure our menu, set up, timing, 'run of show', prep, sound, lighting, staff...was perfect. No detail was too small, no vision too large. The Kemper provides the most beautiful back drop for our community. What a beautiful place to feel beautiful! I highly recommend the Kemper Museum for your wedding and any event or special meeting. It was a pleasure having our daughter's wedding at the Kemper in October. It was a unique venue that lent itself to an intimate, fun gathering for our one hundred guests. Betty and Natasha guided us from beginning to end with what they had to offer and exactly what the costs would be. I especially liked that food and drinks were provided through Cafe Sebastian. We chose appetizers and heavy hors d'oeuvres and it turned out great. All the staff were very personable and polite. We received many compliments from our guests and we are still glowing with the happy memories of the ceremony and reception. I highly recommend the Kemper.

We hosted our son's rehearsal dinner at The Kemper Museum on Friday evening, July 6, 2018. We worked with both Betty and Natasha on all of the details. They were both professional and very FUN to work with! Everything from figuring out layout & linens to the tasting session were thoroughly enjoyable experiences! The atrium area was beautifully set for the evening, the dinner was delicious and the servers were excellent. Our rehearsal ran late at the church and our toasts ran long during the dinner, which made us go past our agreed upon ending time for the evening. I had no idea how late we had gone over our time, since the staff continued their friendly service. I would highly recommend The Kemper if you want your special event to be perfect!

My son and daughter-in-law had their wedding reception at the Kemper this past summer. This venue is absolutely gorgeous! From beginning to end, Natasha bent over backwards to make their reception perfect. She always responded to us immediately and was very accommodating with all of our requests. The evening went perfectly with not one glitch. The staff was very friendly and professional (we especially liked the bartender!). The food was delicious and the presentation beautiful. Natasha does not miss even the tiniest detail. Thank you so much for a perfect wedding reception!

The Kemper Museum was a dream come true venue for my daughter and son-in-law's wedding reception. They could not have had a better ending to such a beautiful day! Our group had a fabulous experience here. The food was delicious and catered to any dietary needs. The wait staff was professional, organized, and exceeded expectations of service. If we needed anything at all, someone was there to help us immediately. The event ran very smoothly and our guests had a great time.

All inclusive event venue with absolutely no need to decorate! We hosted 225 guests and found the space to be perfect, the food outstanding and the staff top notch! Although I thought it would be more expensive, having everything covered and managed actually made it quite reasonable and with so much less legwork on us.... no tracking down multiple vendors! Natasha was so supportive and helpful.... day of, she was invaluable!

Amazing venue and staff, people still rave about the food at our wedding! We live a plane flight away and were able to have our wedding at The Kemper with only visiting one time as the staff is highly organized, communicative and creative. Surrounded by beautiful art, a great liquor menu and price, amazing/customizable food with their chef, you are guaranteed to have a magazine worthy event here with ease and to your budget. I found them the easiest venue to work with in Kansas City, no questions asked. Love the Kemper!!!

From beginning to end, the staff at the Kemper went above and beyond to help us plan and execute a wonderful event! From the set up of the space, to the catering menu and all logistics and details in-between, we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. The Kemper Museum was a fantastic place to have our wedding reception. It was beautiful and unique being surrounded by artwork during our speeches, dinner, and reception. We had comments from a number of guests saying that they hadn't been to a wedding at such an interesting venue. The Kemper's staff was excellent in planning, making decisions, and preparing beforehand. During the event, the staff was friendly, helpful, and very professional. The food was excellent and their staff did a great job of preparing and serving. We've got some *beautiful* photos of wedding attendees with the interesting decor around them, and we're absolutely thrilled we had the opportunity to use the space for our reception. We recommend checking out the museum ahead of time and figuring out which exhibits will be on display if you're trying to pick the right date to have an event!

We recently celebrated my sons wedding at the kemper. It was a huge hit with our family and friends! The wedding coordinators betty and natasha were extremely organized and answered all our questions and concerns. They really have the process down. The venue itself is lovely and classy. Our son and daughter-in-law are very artsy so it personified there personalities! We probably got the most compliments on the food buffet. Literally every dish was absolutely delicious! We picked chicken and steak as the main entree. The salad with strawberries, nuts, and cheese is to die for! In addition the wait staff was very attentive, keeping the food replaced as needed! Afterthe reception the staff was so great about helping us get everything packed up! Having the wedding at the Kemper was the best decision we made. This is a completely honest review, I’m not embellishing at all!

I wish I could give the Team at Kemper more than 5 stars! From the first meeting, to the end of our reception Natasha and Betty's team was fantastic to work with. They went above and beyond to fulfill our requests. The night exceeded all of our expectations. Natasha was extremely helpful and attentive the weeks leading up to the wedding. We had no reason to worry on the wedding day, we fully trusted Natasha and knew the event would be spectacular. Also, the food and beverage team blew everyone's mind, the signature cocktails and buffet was beautifully put together. I could go on-and-on about how impressed myself (bride), the groom, and my parents were with this team. We are so grateful!

Our wedding at the Kemper Museum went off without a hitch. We loved being able to customize everything about our dinner and drinks via Cafe Sebastienne and Chef Remy! Betty and Natasha were a dream to work with; they always answered questions promptly and worked with us through multiple versions of our setup and flow for the evening. We also loved that a day-of planner was not needed, as the Kemper staff took care of coordinating all the vendors and setup.

The setting, the staff, and the service at the Kemper Museum went beyond our expectations. Everyone we worked with before, during, and after our wedding and reception were so helpful and attentive to detail. They made sure we had everything we needed, and were very accommodating to our other vendors. The food was delicious, and just the right amount for our guests. I do not think our event could have been more beautiful, or more successful. It was everything we dreamed of for our wedding celebration!

Betty and Natasha were fabulous to work with throughout the process of planning our wedding. Then when the big day was here, the compliments on the space came rolling in! People loved the open galleries for the art, the funky artsy atmosphere, the delicious food and of course, the location near the plaza entertainment & hotels! My husband and I had high hopes when we chose the Kemper, and they planning staff absolutely exceeded all of our expectations. Our wedding was stunning! We wanted a venue that could 'flip,' was beautiful, unique, and easily accessible for our out of town guests (some coming from as far away as Russia). One of the hidden gems of planning your wedding at the Kemper is that you get Natasha and Betty as planners. We currently live on the East Coast, and I was amazed at how easy it was to work with them and how accommodating they were when we asked to make a few last minute changes. I could not have asked for a better ceremony and reception place. Our wedding was absolutely amazing! I would pick Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art over and over again. Between Betty, Natasha and all the wonderful staff our night was literally perfect. Working with Betty and Natasha they made planning our wedding super easy and stress free. I could not have asked for a better day. Everyone who came has raved about how great it was in addition to how amazing the food was. Having our wedding here was the best wedding decision I made through the entire process.

My husbands' and mine 3 biggest priorities for our wedding reception was that it have amazing food, be a "fun" location, and support a nonprofit, and the Kemper museum satisfied all criteria fully! An added bonus I did not think about was getting Betty and Natasha as event planners; they went above and beyond to help me plan and make sure everything went smoothly on the day of the wedding. The rest of the museum staff on the night of the event was marvelously efficient and kind as well, from the bar tenders to the busboys to the art protection specialists. The museum's handling of planning, rentals, catering, and the bar severely cut down on the amount of vendors I had to juggle, which was a great relief and made planning a wedding by myself a breeze. All in all, it was a beautiful reception that received many compliments, while also being surprisingly affordable. I recommend anyone seeking a unique, easy-to-work-with event space to seek them out.

The Kemper Museum was the perfect venue for my daughter's New Years Eve Wedding. I can't say enough about the entire experience. The entire staff at the Kemper was friendly, attentive and professional. Betty Kindler was fantastic to work with from day one. She was helpful and always available to answer any questions or worries we might have. The food was exceptional--not your typical wedding reception food--and our guests are still talking about it. The atmosphere at the Kemper...well you just have to see it! It really is the perfect choice for a reception, or party of any kind. I highly recommend the Kemper, and hope my other daughter will choose The Kemper when she gets married.

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is a beautiful venue offering sumptuous cuisine, catered by its on-site cafe award-winning chef Jennifer and her staff. Catering staff (Tony, Betty and Natasha) handled every detail of my daughter and son-in-law's wedding with total aplomb! Guest after guest remarked that the wedding was beautiful, dinner was delicious, and that the evening was executed to perfection! I contacted Betty scores of times during the planning process to check out various details. She quickly and graciously answered all my questions. For my one and only child, I wanted her wedding to be wonderful. Thanks to the Kemper staff, the wedding was indeed a wondrous evening!!!! As an added bonus, guests were able to enjoy visiting the galleries during the wedding. I would recommend the Kemper again and again!!!!

The Kemper Museum was a lovely venue for our Son's rehearsal dinner. Betty and Natasha were wonderful to work with. They are organized and efficient. Every detail was taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious. The service and support staff were very professional. Everyone raved about the event. I highly recommend.

The wedding and reception were absolutely AWESOME! Natasha did a great job getting everything ready for the event. She was wonderful. She put out the table numbers, place cards, and menu cards (she even made sure to get the vegan menu cards at the right seats). The atmosphere was beautiful (and perfect), the appetizers were really tasty, the dinner was delicious, and the service was outstanding. I can't say enough positives about the evening. It was PERFET in every way! One small snafu with the cake, it started to lean a bit but it held out through the cake cutting so all was well. Natasha was great though and had servers standing by in gloves, just in case. A wonderful night for all! Thank you for your suggestions for florists and cake - we were very happy with everything! If you ever need a great band Lonnie McFadden was so incredible. The kids have loved him for years and we've seen him at the Phoenix several times - they made the evening so much fun and were absolutely amazing. Thank you for everything! When we get pictures from the photographer I'll send some to you. The museum couldn't have been more beautiful or more perfect for the wedding.

You're probably thinking OF COURSE everyone thinks their wedding was perfect... OF COURSE everyone thinks their venue was beautiful.... well, if you are on the fence about having yours at the Kemper Museum... OF COURSE you should! A million times OF COURSE. I'll be honest, I had plenty of concerns going into choosing the Museum... Will it hold all my guests? Will it be too loud with a band? Will everyone be able to park with the Art Fair going on? Spoiler alert: It all worked out... above and beyond my expectations. The crew at the Kemper is TOP NOTCH. They are accommodating, kind and so talented! The food, atmosphere and service was all amazing.... we can't thank them enough. I'm a list maker.... Here are my top reasons to choose Kemper.... 1. Staff - Amazing. Betty is an angel. 2. Atmosphere - You hardly need flowers with such gorgeous art surrounding you! 3. Food - Everyone loved it! But c'mon... did you expect any less from Chef Jennifer?! We did a heavy appetizer buffet and got rave reviews. 4. Museum Membership - Wish I would have made our initial donation to the museum as "Friends of So & So" ... nice gesture in lieu of party favors. 5. Memories - The Kemper is a KC landmark.... What a fantastic place to visit and remember your wedding day! Best wedding venue in Kansas City... hands down. (And hands in da air for a great party whoop whoop. :)

I run a wedding venue so I was very nervous about letting go of the control and trusting someone else to do what I do on my big day. I was worried I was not going to be able to relax and enjoy the moment but I was! They pulled all the stops out and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. Everything was perfect, just as I had imagined it. From the food (which was delicious) to the flow of the evening, everything went wonderfully and my guests had an amazing time! Such a great venue!

As the wedding planner for a recent reception at Kemper Museum, I was truly impressed by the professionalism of the staff throughout the planning process! Betty was so warm and friendly to work with and readily assisted our couple and their families with important details about their layout, catering and bar menus, and how to make the most of their experience in the space. On the day of the event, Natasha led their staff with grace and ease as she worked through all of the plans that had been laid out. We always anticipate a few adjustments on the wedding day for things you cannot predict, and she handled those beautifully! This was the first time Chappelow Events had worked in the space and we hope to be back soon! Kemper Museum is truly one-of-a-kind!

Our daughter was married at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in March of 2016. It was a magnificent venue for a wedding! The art is gorgeous, the food is absolutely fabulous and the staff is courteous and efficient. Betty Kindler, the Special Events manager of the Kemper is quite extraordinary as a wedding planner! Betty walked us through every step of the wedding. Betty is kind, patient, organized, detail oriented, knowledgeable and unflappable. She handled everything, so we could just enjoy the evening! She has a great balance of administrative skills as well as strong relational skills with clients on an individual basis. Besides a great experience with Betty and her co-worker Natasha coordinating the wedding event, we must say that the artful and delicious food is another reason to choose the Kemper for an event. WOW! The flavors meld and marry together to form the perfect union of the most creative and delectable dishes your tastebuds will experience. Our guests have raved and raved about the food and unanimously said it was the most delicious food they've ever had at a wedding. The food was truly memorable!! We are so grateful to the staff of Kemper for giving our daughter and son-in-law the meaningful ceremony and magical reception they envisioned. Couldn’t ask for better location, the building with the artwork was lovely, easily handling all of our guests, parking was easy. Nothing but compliments from the guests on the food, great service. Everything was handled in a professional manner. So pleased that we used the Kemper Museum for our daughter's reception.

First and foremost, finding a venue with an organized coordinator made all the difference! Betty at the museum was so professional, consultative, and trusting that my day wouldn't have been the same without her. Aside from service, the food was my top priority in finding a venue and I can honestly say that guests are still raving about the wonderful dishes the Cafe had to offer on the buffet.

Recently my husband and I got married and had our reception here...it was amazing. Everyone who came said nothing but great things about the place. The food is to die for and the staff are amazingly helpful. You're wedding day will go extra smooth with the help from Amy and Betty and you won't have any issues. I have already started recommending this venue to some of my newly engaged friends.

Betty was amazing to work with. She was very detail oriented and had great suggestions. The night of was perfect. For the venue size, they had more staff on hand to keep the tables cleared and drinks flowing. We loved it and all our pictures have beautiful artwork in the background!

Best wedding decision I made was to get married at the Kemper. 1. Betty Kindler walks on water in my books. I swear my now husband tried to throw a glass of water at her feet to test it. 2. Reasonably priced considering all you get. 3. After our wedding we have attended 4 weddings-- people talk about our wedding at other people's weddings 4. The food. My aunt who claims she hates salmon, ate two plates! Swore I saw her lick her plate. 5. The atmosphere is brilliant. The venue itself is entertainment for your guests. I had several friends come up to me excited about the pieces of art. Highly, highly recommend

We are so happy that we chose Kemper for our reception. Betty was easy to work with and created the timeline for our night, which went smoothly. Our guests keep talking about how good the food was from the Cafe and how they loved the venue. I liked it because if people wanted to dance they could dance, but if they wanted to catch up and talk there were plenty of places to do that too. The artwork is also beautiful and didn't require much decorating/flowers because it was already there. We loved our reception and I think our guests did too!

Three days after my wedding reception and I'm still flying high. I had the most wonderful celebration at the Kemper Museum, and my guest have nothing but rave reviews for the venue, food, and overall wonderful experience they had. The setting is so unique, to be surrounded by the beautifully striking art, and the food from Café Sebastienne was delicious. The staff was easy to work with and well organized - everything was put together with such an expert touch. I'd highly recommend the Kemper for a wedding or reception without hesitation. Your guests will be "wowed" and you'll have a wonderful time, too.

Kemper was a great venue to host our wedding. Cafe Sebastian is the catering company and the food was fabulous. The event planner, Betty, is on top of everything needed to make the event spectacular. Betty Kindler, has worked as a wedding planner, and now coordinates events at the Kemper. She has a wealth of experience. She led us through the planning process step-by-step, in a quiet, friendly, systematic fashion. She offered suggestions or choices, often with photographs to illustrate--"Some like to have the head table here . . . or you might w. . . " She was able to work with vendors, too, and negotiated the rental company providing the chairs so that the final decision--outdoors in the Rose Garden or indoors in the courtyard at the Kemper--could be decided three hours before the ceremony, rather than twenty-four hours. The staff worked so hard! Everything was in place when our guests began to arrive. They were good-natured and helpful. The wedding was slated to be in the Rose Garden at Loose Park, so we needed a "rain plan." The space at the Kemper lent itself to this--the courtyard feels like a chapel with its soaring ceilings and skylights. The woman managing the bar area complimented me on my husband's choice of wines and later told him, "You got your money's worth." He had opted for the flat rate per person, rather than calculating the exact consumption of our guests. He likes nothing better than a good deal, so he was quite pleased. The buffet was lovely and delicious! Many guests raved about the food. One of the reasons we selected the Kemper was its proximity to the Rose Garden in Loose Park, as well as the adjacent hotels. Also, we had a number of elderly guests --a wheelchair, walkers, canes, etc. Parking at the Kemper is easy and the entire building is handicapped accessible. For those, who needed some quiet time or did not want to dance, the galleries were open and guests could enjoy the art work. This splendid space meant we did not need to spend a fortune on flowers and centerpieces. The Kemper also afforded quiet spaces for those who wanted to talk and the not-so-quiet atrium which became a dance floor later in the reception. People could watch and enjoy the dancing, but still carry on their conversations. In the beginning, we were uncertain how many guests we would have. One of the appealing things about the Kemper was there was plenty of room if the guest list grew, but the space is not cavernous so it would lend itself to a smaller, more intimate reception as well. Events, such as this reception, allow the Kemper to keep its doors open without charging admission. Thus, we also felt like we were contributing to our community. The bride and groom live out-of-town, but Betty and the staff's flexibility, accessibility, organization, and communication skills helped us plan this complicated event without drama. We all felt taken care of and were able to relax and enjoy this joyous day!

Kemper is the best of the best. Not only is it a beautiful, unique venue, but the event coordinator, Betty, is a true pro. She helped every step of the way, from working with us on our budget and recommending vendors to managing day-of deliveries and the flow of events. Betty made the whole thing easy and enjoyable. The food and beverages were also easy and enjoyable. They have a great wine list, and even the heavy hors d'oeuvres were impeccable. We had pork meatballs, jerk-rubbed salmon, spinach salad, and roasted red pepper hummus. I was worried about it seeming random, but everything went together wonderfully. Everyone commented on how delicious it all was. And of course, I haven't even mentioned the beauty of the museum. With all the gorgeous art, we didn't need a lot of flowers or other decorations. And you will have gorgeous photos no matter what! I highly recommend Kemper, Betty, and Cafe Sebastienne. You will not be disappointed.

From the moment we met Betty at the Kemper we knew it would be the perfect wedding reception venue for us. She was organized, had great ideas and treated our wedding planning with utmost personal attention and care. We hosted a dinner buffet for 200 guests and received countless compliments on the elegant setting, wonderful food (best food most people had ever had at a wedding) and interesting mingling and activity the museum provided. As an older bride marrying for the first time and working full time without a wedding planner, I felt so comfortable with Betty and the team at the Kemper. I knew they were thinking of very detail. They gave us great suggestions to bring to life the tone and style of the wedding we wanted and had great communication with us and our other vendors throughout the process. In addition to their time tested ideas, they also allowed us to add custom touches and were extremely accommodating of all our requests, even last minute guest count increases. We dropped off display items and guest favors the day before and left the set up in the capable hands of the Kemper team. When we walked into the museum coming from the church with our family and friends already there it was a magical moment we will never forget, and there was Betty to welcome us and ensure everything was exactly as we had envisioned. I cannot thank Betty and the whole Kemper team enough for making our wedding even more perfect than we could have imagined!

Words cannot describe how pleased I am with the service at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art! My reception was beyond anything I could have ever dreamed up. I recommend holding your wedding ceremony or reception at Kemper, and here is why... What drew me to the Kemper was the chef, Jennifer Maloney, at Cafe Sebastienne. I knew she would WOW my guests, and that's what she did. She exceeded all expectations. The hors d'oeuvres and plated lunch were INCREDIBLE! My husband and I are huge food people, and we thought everything from the bread to the beef tenderloin were PERFECT. We had about 110 guests, and the reviews of the quality and temperature were consistent from table to table. Not only was the taste and presentation of the food perfect, the service was outstanding as well! The staff were extremely professional and friendly and served the food in an efficient manner. The food and staff exceeded my expectations, but the person who really made my day perfect was the wedding coordinator at Kemper, Betty. I could not have dreamed of a more helpful, friendly, creative, organized and professional person to help me plan my day. From start to finish, Betty helped me with all of the small details and big plans in a completely STRESS-FREE manner. She was always available for questions and her communication style made what could have been a very hectic time EASY! She was easy to talk to and FUN to work with! On my wedding day, my husband and I didn't have time to eat our cake so Betty boxed it up and put it in the limo without anyone even noticing! During the entire reception, I would look around and see Betty supervising to make sure everything was going smoothly. I cannot thank Betty enough for everything she did! I sincerely appreciate everyone at the Kemper who made my day the best it could be.
