My fiancé and I were married last fall at the Kimberton Inn. For those of you unfamiliar with this venue, don’t leave this stone unturned! Avid cyclists, we used the Kimberton Inn’s parking lot as a meet up point for a ride one morning. Upon... completing our ride, packing up the bikes into the car, we then finally “noticed” this gem of a place. We casually walked around the grounds, admired the small creek and old water wheel that adorned the property, thinking that would be an ideal backdrop for our outside ceremony that my now wife was yearning for. The building itself has a ton of history behind it, and it really comes shining through both outside and inside of this historic inn, built in the 1700’s. The regal, red brick steps, tall white pillar columns flanking the heavy wooden doors, adorned by leaded glass windows on either side; we just had to look further! Across the street is a picturesque pond with geese, swans and ducks, meandering about. Beside that is an old pump-house, some 200+ year old trees; fantastic backdrops for pictures, right on site! I wonder if they do weddings we said aloud.
So, we walked inside and were greeted by their friendly staff, asked if we wanted a cup of coffee while we waited for the owner/operator. (Great gourmet coffee BTW!)
Out came Jeff Effgen, the owner/operator of the Kimberton Inn for over 33 years! He is old school in all the good ways of customer service, especially when it comes to your most important day! He took the time to give us a tour of the restaurant (historic bar area, 3 wood burning fireplaces, wine cellar, dining area, and a banquet room). From the repurposed brick flooring, historic charm, you just got an incredibly warm feeling of the aura of this fine restaurant. We knew this was going to be the one-stop shop for all of our needs. Onto going over the various options that Jeff and his team offer. So many, it’s easy to get lost in all of the choices, but once again, Jeff offered up his vast knowledge and expertise on what paired well with what, what most people would prefer, and asked great thought provoking questions to ensure he could tailor this special day to make it the most memorable one we’d carry together for the rest of our lives. Needless to say, mission accomplished! I won’t bore you with all of the various details, but the food choices, quality, taste, and presentation were phenomenal, truly top notch, and he lived up to his promises. He took care of virtually everything! Wedding cake check (which BTW, his baker duplicated from a photo I had sent & was hands down the BEST carrot cake I have ever had…period!) Beverage choices top notch offerings as well, and you can suit every guest taste and palate. Service was impeccable. The entire night was stress free, and a great time to celebrate with the closest of friends and family. Everyone kept marveling at how much fun they had, how great the food and service was, and the fact that we need to do this again!
I cannot thank Jeff Effgen (Owner), Jason Irrgang (Manager), Jim Trainer (Head Chef), and the entire team enough. It is truly a day that we will cherish and remember for the rest of our lives. This review does not do the place enough justice. Go, check it out! They have an AMAZING Sunday brunch as well, again with top notch food, but such a relaxing, historic, yet elegant and laid back atmosphere all at the same time.
