raphically. As we were preparing for the tasting and working with Kim to design and order the cake, I reached out via email and explained that we chose them as part of our venue's agreement. I had asked about a tasting and we booked a Saturday for me to pick up the samples. That day came, along with a hurricane. I went to pick up the samples and was met with a sign on the door explaining that they were delivering to a wedding. I called back to leave a message and requested to pick them up the next day. The store was adorable and all of the confections in the display looked amazing. I grabbed the samples and got home to taste them with my (then) fiance. The next day, I emailed her with our choices and inquired about what the "default" design was - I didn't want to send photos of a million dollar cake that would've been extra outside of the included cake from our venue. She didn't really have any description for a "default"/minimum/maximum for designs, but just said that the pics we sent were fine and asked about a quantity of guests. We gave her info and didn't really hear back. The day of, we see the cake and the florals in the box next to it. The topper wasn't on. It looked like someone literally dropped the cake off and left - that's it. The pictures we sent included florals and the direction Kim gave was to have them next to the cake stand so they can do it, we followed directions but they didn't make it on? Eventually the venue staff did it, but I was a little nervous that a "qualified" person without a picture for inspo was getting it done. It looked good and nobody knew the craziness behind it. Fast forward to a month later when we're talking to guests -- apparently entire tables didn't get cake! My super friend in particular was craving it all night (lol and kept asking throughout dinner) and then was finally told by the server that they RAN OUT of cake. Our cake was delicious, although apparently not everyone could try it. It looked good, but that's only halfway credited to the baker. This was a slight disappointment in our day.

ing meeting us for a taste test. After tasting how delicious all the flavors were we ordered more mini cupcakes to our order than we expected. We had our cake and cupcakes delivered to our venue which arrived safely and on time before our wedding (even being the Durham fair weekend!). I left out platters and dishes for the cupcakes which were placed so nicely around. Then I left fresh cut succulents and our cake got decorated beautifully on the spot. We got an 8 inch marble cake with Oreo filling and vanilla naked frosting on the outside. It was absolutely perfect and exactly what we showed Kim pictures of at our meeting. We froze the cake we could not finish before our honeymoon, and we cannot wait to have it on our anniversary!! Thank you so much, Kim!

received white cake instead. The desert bar was disappointing. The cupcakes were bite sized when I was expecting full-sized cupcakes. They also tasted pretty bad, heavy oily buttercream. Also, we ran out of deserts and we had an even smaller guest list than estimated. Unfortunately, I would not reccomend this place for a wedding. I was highly disappointed.

er going to both tastings we decided on Kim’s and I was put a little at ease since everything tasted great. We chose a white cake with almond mousse and a double chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. Fast forward to the big day and when we did the cake cutting the flavors were completely wrong. They gave us a yellow cake with vanilla butter cream and a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. While this did not affect the wedding as a whole I was extremely disappointed as I was looking forward to the flavors we chose. When you are a wedding cake baker you have one job and this bakery couldn’t perform that. Warning to all brides looking to use this business, the reviews are correct. I knew I should’ve listened to my gut.

a last-ditch effort to just get something planned because she was local and my mother-in-law has had good luck with cakes from her for other events. The tasting she provided was fabulous - she gave us many flavors to try. The only thing I was disappointed about was that she only provided us with vanilla buttercream frosting to sample, though she said she could do other flavors. Regardless, the cake was all delicious. Even my husband, who does not particularly like cake, thought it was good. Moist and well-flavored. Kim was very to-the-point about the planning, which I greatly appreciated. She had a solid recommendation for how many cupcakes we would need, how many flavors we should choose, and she knew exactly what size couple's cake would be best. She had samples around the room of different decoration styles, and since I had no idea what I really wanted that made it super easy to choose. I left that meeting feeling very confident that we had made the right choice. Come wedding day, my main concern was how the cake was going to look. I had a simple wooden topper and had asked my florist very last minute to leave some flowers for Kim to add to it. I had not communicated this to Kim at all, but she did a BEAUTIFUL job with the cake. It looked amazing. However, I was disappointed about a few things related to the cupcakes. 1. She said she would label the different flavors, which was important to me because at other weddings as a guest it always annoyed me if the flavors were not labeled. She did not label them at all. 2. Related to flavors, I had asked for some cupcakes to have filling and others to not be filled. She filled all of them, which isn't that big of a deal because I don't think she charged extra for it, but I know some of my guests would have preferred to have an unfilled option which I why I ordered it. 3. She provided a cupcake stand, which was great, but she said it would be wrapped in a blue ribbon to add a pop of color and it was not. It wasnt a big deal but it would have looked nice. As a disclaimer, I am not sure it was Kim who ended up setting up our cupcakes. I didn't get to be down there when they got set up and from what other people said it sounded like it may have been an assistant, which would explain some of the little issues. Overall the cake was very good but the frosting and filling was plain so as a whole not amazing but I was not disappointed with the quality.

Everyone thought the cake table was beautiful and there were no leftovers. If I need another cake I would not hesitate to use Kims Cottage Confections and I would recommend this business.

lls so we went with Kim. The tasting day was superb - all the cakes were moist and perfectly presented. Kim herself was pleasant and easy to deal with during that day. We decided that we would go with cupcakes and a 2 tier wedding cake. We asked that the cake be decorated in a winter theme with pinecones and berries. Kim told us that the cupcakes would be displayed in wooden crates to give it a rustic feel. On the wedding day, our cupcakes were underfilled (did not fill the cupcake paper), stale, and we only received 2 of the 4 flavors we requested. The wedding cake itself had plastic pine branches on it and cotton balls, not what we asked for. None of the cupcakes were labeled (some of our guests who had allergies could not enjoy the cupcakes due to this), and the cupcake display was not what Kim had promised. In summary - the cupcakes and wedding cake were the worst part of our wedding. We would NOT recommend Kim, and would actually suggest that you take your business elsewhere.

The display was also perfect and there were plenty of cupcakes to accommodate our guest. Thanks again Kim!

husband as he had to work and couldn’t make the consultation with me. That was so sweet of her and he really appreciated it as well. I did a small cake for my husband and I and cupcakes for the guests. They were excellent!! She came that day to deliver and set it up for us and it was beautiful. I will only use her for future needs. Thank you so much, Kim and staff...a true pleasure to deal with! :)

Kim worked with us on the design of our cake and was so efficient at communicating throughout the whole process. On the day, Kim also provided an amazing little box of treats for our guests that had gluten/dairy allergies and we were so impressed by this. We found Kim through our venue and I am so glad we had the option of someone so talented and lovely to fill our bellies with such delicious cake!!!

We had a 4 tier wedding cake and were able to have 2 different kinds of cake in different tiers. We went with a carrot cake with cream cheese filling and a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. We got compliments on both, but people particularly loved the chocolate cake with chocolate mousse! We ended up going with an exact replica of a cake that was in Kim's 'show room' because we loved it so much and she re-created it perfectly. Thank you Kim, the cake was delicious and the presentation was beautiful!

And the topper was so crooked that the first thing my husband said when he saw it was "that is crooked and looks bad" and he isn't the most observant and person.

e tasting to set up an appointment time with her. I had a few ideas of what I wanted and brought them with me. For the consultation we first went over the different cake flavors. I am not a sweet-tooth type of person by any means so Kim made sure to point out the more savory cakes that she thought I would like. My husband came with me to the tasting since he enjoys sweets way more than me. He enjoyed all the cakes and as Kim predicted I enjoyed the more savory ones she brought out. She was very professional and courteous. Once we decided on the flavors (we went with double chocolate and a lemon cake with raspberry filling) we moved on to the design. Kim had a detailed sheet with her so as we talked and I showed her pictures of what I liked, she took notes and made sure to ask detailed questions. She answered all my questions about the cake topper and decorations. I found her to be very professional and willing to spend as much time as needed with me and my husband. The cake was exactly what I asked for in terms of the design. The flavor and cake itself was absolutely amazing and delicious. Very moist and flavorful!! Kim is amazing at what she does.

tried were great (we chose a chocolate chip cake with a cannoli cream filling). And he decorating skills are just as great as her cakes. And if you wish, for an additional charge, you can get your pet on the cake in fondant! I just sent a couple pictures and she made a dog look just like mine come out of the bottom layer of the cake (check out her Instagram, many people have done it).

lavors kind of difficult. They were all very good. We went with amaretto with almond cream and chocolate with chocolate mousse. We had several guests tell us that they had never tasted such awesome wedding cake. In the package with our venue a buttercream cake was included, but you could choose to upgrade. When we had our meeting with Kim she looked at some pictures we had seen, and said that we could choose to have a 3 tiered cake instead of a 4 tiered cake, and have one undecorated tier to avoid paying extra. We had a music themed wedding, so Kim decoupaged sheet music to one of our favorite songs that she printed on edible paper all over the top and bottom layers. When I saw the title of the song when we cut the cake I was choked up; it was perfect. She matched a ribbon on the second layer to my maid of honor's dress perfectly. My fiancé had mentioned a few weeks before the wedding that he was nervous about the cake because we met with her almost a year in advance and we hadn't really been in touch throughout the year. I had sent her the pdf of the sheet music but that was pretty much it. When he saw the cake for the first time he was completely blown away. It was unlike anything we had ever seen and honestly so much better than the Pintrest photos we had shown her. Additionally her ability to make it work with buttercream so that we didn't have to deal with the taste of fondant was marvelous. The cake looked extremely smooth and elegant, it tasted as delicious as it looked. I honestly ate way more than I should of the week after the wedding, we had more than enough left over in addition to the entire top tier.

ferent flavors of cupcakes and a mini cake on top of our cupcake display. I made my own cake topper, and they artfully put it in place on our minicake display for everyone to see. They used fondant for our top cake and buttercream frosting for the cupcakes. I loved the way the cupcakes looked, and the guests really enjoyed them. However, I did not feel that the cupcakes were as moist or tasted the way they did at the tasting. They were still very good, just not oh-my-god good. I was happiest that they looked exactly the way I wanted them to, and the guests raved about them. We also used their white-chocolate popcorn for our candy bar as favors for our guests. Now, the popcorn was absolutely oh-my-god GOOD! I ate it after the wedding for days and the guests LOVED it. Overall, Kim's was the right choice for us at the Society Room and they worked with us to make our theme really work with their cake.
