We had some different and difficult requests at times and Kona Kai was very flexible and willing to work with us, especially considering we were planning the wedding from out of town. We were even allowed to visit the resort for a different event to get inspiration and see the resort in full wedding mode. We were supported the whole process and we absolute loved our wedding week. Everyone was amazing, from Angie and Enrique at the front desk to Mialani with hotel booking, to the banquet manager ensuring everything was running smoothly on the day of. We can't say enough how much we loved our wedding and will definitely be visiting Kona Kai again. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a spot to get married. We picked a beach ceremony and courtyard reception and everything was stunning.

All these reasons plus her genuine kindness lead us to choose Kona Kai, and we are SO happy we did. Throughout the whole planning process, Brenna was there to answer every email and phone call in a timely manner, support me during my low-key meltdowns about non-venue related matters, and coordinated so well with my wedding planner. When the City of San Diego denied our permit, Brenna and her manager went above and beyond to refute it, ultimately leading the city to approve our permit. On the day of the wedding, the team at Kona Kai moved everything along effortlessly. The set up of the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception were absolutely stunning. The accommodations made for my vendors' parking were appreciated, and the discounted valet for my guests were very reasonable. I continuously had to add more rooms to my room block, which Brenna, Sal, and Osae were SO patient and accommodating with. I could go on and on with how satisfied I am, but no amount of words will capture how grateful and happy I am. I absolutely recommend working with Brenna and her team at Kona Kai for your wedding!

So hard working, efficient, and on it. They were able to accommodate the client's needs throughout the whole planning process, and it was truly a joy to work with everyone involved. The venue is absolutely beautiful with a harbor view for the ceremony and lovely outdoor courtyard for the reception. The adjacent spaces create an easy flow for the guests from one event to the next. It is an all-inclusive venue which makes things so much easier for clients in planning their wedding! I would definitely recommend this venue for future clients, and I hope to work there again soon!

and her chef and servers impressed the most lofty of guests; we are still receiving compliments: "The service was so perfect... they were always there to fill our glasses and bring more bread... the food was delicious... the fish was not overcooked, it was excellent,...they had appetizers from the cocktail hour waiting for us on the head table... he even unfolded my napkin for me and placed it on my lap... " Brenna had taken over our project mid-planning after her predecessor left, but Brenna knew every minute detail of our discussions and plans; what a pro! Brenna was super-responsive and able to adjust whatever was needed. Aline Bichara of Aline Bichara Events also did an especially fabulous, meticulous job of creating our aesthetic aspirations come true--aisle, her lounge areas, table settings and linens.... everything just exquisite! (And she was good at giving us the slight "Um, uht-uh" shake of the head when we thought to go overboard.) Heather Wilm, of Willmus Weddings actually physically corrected our dream wedding aisle on wedding day when the rental vendor had made it too long for our plan , (on her knees, tools in hand, taking it apart!) as well as keeping us on time and on task for a year before and on the actual wedding day. Heather is exceptionally talented with logistics and ALL things needed on wedding day. This wedding is the second we entrusted to Heather and her husband, Christophe at Willmus Weddings. Christophe is a superb videographer and photographer who is somehow so discreet you never know he is there... until you see the work he has so lovingly and sensitively envisioned and created for you. 100% confidence in recommending the Kona Kai, Brenna, the Chef, Servers, (who also worked so hard and cheerfully to set our areas!) Jeff provided us with all pertinent information - about the time window, setup, décor, dinner (appetizer, main course, and dessert), cake set-up, music arrangement, bar/drinks, parking, and personnel. We did not encounter a single surprise change or expense. Jeff is such a dignified, pleasant, sensible, and an amicable person. The wedding day banquet captain Erol Dura was also very helpful, attentive to all our needs on that evening, and the dinner set-up was timely and lovely. Finally, the banquet chef Alex Melendez deserves our profuse thanks, wish we met him to thank personally. The dinner was truly remarkable, cooked and catered to perfection. Everything from Caesar Salad to Rib-eye was done perfectly, and everybody complimented on the food. Overall, things were exactly as we wanted, and we were totally satisfied. Since we did not stay at the resort we cannot comment on rooms/stay.

She communicated often, ensured my husband and I were informed, and got our rooms upgraded so we wouldn’t have to stress about getting ready the day of. The food and service was amazing at the wedding so I’ll explain the one star drop- Prior to leaving our room to go to the wedding, a housekeeping worker cursed at myself and my bridesmaids to leave. I wonder if she saw I was in a whole wedding dress? Housekeeping ended up not cleaning the room so my honeymoon suite was a mess when I came back from the wedding. I also heard from family members that hotel staff tried to cut out the lights during our last dance. Otherwise, Lisa and the rest of the staff (shout out to Enrique the bellman) were incredibly helpful and supportive before, during, and after the wedding. If this was a review for only Lisa it would be a 5/5. Highly recommend this hotel, but housekeeping really dropped the ball.

e venue. Kona Kai was the second one we visited and no other venue could top it. It was everything we dreamed of for our wedding day. It had the most beautiful ceremony locations and outdoor reception areas. Plus having the hotel on site was perfect for getting ready on site, the restaurant is delicious for all meals, and the location is a perfect vacation get away for our out of town guests (and ourselves!!) Our 200 guest wedding date was originally scheduled for Spring 2020, however due to COVID we had to post pone to the later than summer. During this time, the catering services team was on leave due to COVID, so we were put in touch with the director Jeff Hornick. He was so understanding of the situation and helped us pick a new date. However, by summertime 2020, restrictions were still in place and my husband and I knew we wouldn't be able to host the wedding of our dreams, so we postponed again to Spring 2021. Once again Jeff and the Kona Kai were so understanding and graciously moved our contract again. Then by Spring 2021 there was still so much uncertainty that we made the decision to drastically cut our guest list to 25 people and make many modifications to event to meet all CDC guidelines. By the time our wedding date finally came, it was so nice staying at the hotel, our ceremony location was breathtaking, and we got to enjoy a cocktail hour, dinner, cake, champagne toasts, and dancing with our family and close friends. The wedding was a lot different than planned, but it was everything and more than we could ever have dreamt of.

he tiki bar was a perfect setting. The Vessel restaurant was a fabulous place for breakfast and evening cocktails. The rooms were clean with amazing views of the marina. Our guests loved the balconies and beach fire pits. The beach ceremony site was quiet and serene. The hotel catering manager, Lisa, was outstanding and met all our needs. I highly recommend Kona Kai for a destination wedding. We had 80 rooms blocked and the rooming block coordinator, Khara, was responsive and easy to work with. Five stars!

to work with. We were so impressed with how quickly he responded, how patient and helpful he was and how he went above and beyond to make our day absolutely magical. Everyone from the valets to the bartenders there are friendly and helpful. Our experience was top notch from the beginning to the end. We also used all of their amenities: we used the gym which is super impressive for a smaller resort - it had everything we needed to get a few final workouts in before the big day! We all got massages at the spa which were the best massages we've ever had. Our guests loved the bikes on-site and we saw them riding them every single day! We also got cabanas for the day after the wedding which I'd highly recommend. It was super relaxing and the server at the pool was incredible - funny, friendly and really delivered such a great experience. We also took the paddle boards out and that was a blast! It's such a cool place to paddle around and check out all the yachts. We actually wore part of our wedding attire to paddle out for sunset the day after the wedding and got some really cool shots. OH, and the bonfire pits on the sand were perfect for an afterparty with s'mores and cocktails. We will definitely be back - we love this place so much! And our guests could not stop saying how much they loved it - how incredible the views, location and staff are.

She also worked with the chef to make us a custom vegetarian menu. The venue itself is outstanding. We are San Diego locals but had numerous out of town guests from the east coast. Everyone stayed at the resort and raved about the beautiful property. The service we received was incredible. Many couples remark that they never end up eating at their wedding. Kona Kai made sure we received plenty of food and drinks, hand delivering them to us from the buffet. My husband and I are so happy with our choice to have our wedding & reception at Kona Kai Resort. Highly recommend.

he airport was about 15-20 minutes away. The views are amazing and had the perfect scenery for all our wedding photography. My husband and I are from the Bay Area and decided to choose this beautiful resort because of their amazing staff. We were greeted by really nice and professional bellmen, every time we entered the resort. From our coordinator Lisa Fleming, banquet staff, restaurant chefs, and to Vania and Sean at the front desk- EVERYONE was super friendly, very helpful in accommodating whatever we requested and made sure we all had the perfect stay. The majority of our family members and guests at our wedding stayed here for convenience also for our wedding reception and could not stop raving about the Kona Kai team and cleanliness of the resort. There were so many things to do, like hitting up the pools and gym, the spa, eating at their amazing restaurant with an awesome view and live music, the s’mores at their private beach and the walk to the marina- everyone felt like they were truly “on vacation”. The setup of the room buildings all had different but amazing hotel views of the boats on the marina. The hotel rooms were a good size for our guests and also loved that they had hardwood floors instead of carpet. They were very generous in upgrading our rooms since we got married there. It was absolutely perfect and we couldn’t have asked for more! We noticed some pets also so I believe they are a pet friendly resort. If you are planning to choose a location for your wedding, we highly recommend Kona Kai! They have so many options and are open to work with your budget. Thank you Kona Kai team!!! We cannot wait to visit again soon!

private beach. It was so much fun and such a unique venue! You can't have a private beach wedding anywhere else in SD. Everyone was barefoot and we danced in the sand. There are a couple things to consider before booking: there is a high turnover rate with the event team at the resort and while the hotel itself is beautiful, the staff was not very helpful or accommodating during our time there. We planned our wedding over the course of about a year and had 3 different contacts, and when the first two left we were not notified and only found out when I reached out and received no response or a bounce back email. I then had to reach out to the hotel itself to find out what was going on. There was also a loss in communication, because services we negotiated with the first contact, never made it to the last one, so we lost out on some items we initially agreed upon. However, I did not have it in writing. Our last contact was awesome, Lisa, and I loved working with her. She was so organized and helpful. However, I found out right after our wedding she has also left. As far as the hotel staff, some were nice and helpful, but I ran into multiple situations where they did not seem to care about providing good service. Like I said before, we still loved having our wedding at Kona Kai and the food was AMAZING! Just a word of advice to future brides getting married at Kona Kai: get everything in writing.

to hold the ceremony on their brand new lawn that overlooks the marina. Construction wasn’t finished yet when we booked it, so we took a bit of a risk, but it was completely worth it. Construction finished in time for our wedding just as they promised, and the place looked amazing. It’s now a month later and our guests continue to mention how beautiful the ceremony was. We held our reception on the beach which was a ton of fun! We’re locals but this ended up feeling like a destination wedding due to their fantastic beach. The sand wasn’t too soft, so guests could leave their shoes on if they wanted, the fire pits were a hit, and the views were unreal. Finally, the staff here knocked it out of the park. Our venue coordinator Lisa took over after another coordinator left (who was also great btw), but Lisa took over and didn’t skip a beat. She was extremely organized and responsive to every question that we had. She even helped us run the rehearsal when our officiant ran late. Thanks Lisa! Also, Chris the banquet manager was there for us on our wedding day for anything we needed. Not to mention the food was so good! We were in good hand throughout the whole process. We did a ton of venue research and visits beforehand and must say that the Kona Kai is one of the best places to get married in San Diego. We highly recommend it!

Not only did they create a custom menu for us, the chef took the time to really make it perfect. Usually wedding food is mediocre but we had so many guests compliment our meal. Kona Kai went above and beyond for us- from dealing with obnoxious family with a smile to even adding additional decor to the stations just to make everything pop. Every single Kona Kai employee was incredibly helpful and positive. This was a venue that didn't upsell but actually added things just to make our wedding weekend that much better. From Emilio in the front to Chris on the back end everything was such high quality service. The setting here is so idyllic. Because there is only one ballroom, it is likely that they only have one wedding each day which means you and your guests can feel like the resort is all yours. The rooms are huge and comfortable and all newly renovated and the grounds are kept pristine. There are multiple ceremony location options that all look out on the water and there are so many picture worthy spots. We could not have asked for a more perfect venue.

After the wedding, I LITERALLY had relatives calling me to tell me how good the food was- both for cocktail hour (which took place outside) and dinner (which took place in the full PL Room) Music: We outsourced our DJ and the band was my father-in-law's band, but the KK set up a great stage for them and were very accommodating with regard to setup times, power sourcing, etc. Venue: The wait staff were ALL SMILING. I'm not kidding- You would have thought they knew my husband and I personally. They were absolutely lovely and so very helpful. My husband and I didn't attend cocktail hour and had a big bridal party entrance, but the wait staff snuck us the two of us in to see the ballroom before the guests were allowed in. They even brought us a plate of hor'devours! Point Loma Room: Like I said before, the room is STUNNING and overlooks the bay. There is a beautiful fountain and since the remodel a few years back, everything is topnotch. The way I look at it, other venues that host events in fancy ballrooms may as well be located in the middle of nowhere if there aren't any windows or a view. But the Kona Kai has all of the beautiful ballroom features with the backdrop of the San Diego bay and its gorgeous sunsets! Cake: Kona Kai uses Flour Power and I'm so glad they do! My cake was beautiful AND delicious, which is just a testament to the Kona Kai's great service and their own vendor expectations. Honeymoon Suite: They gave my husband and I a free night in the honeymoon suite and I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say they really went all out with the room. It was the 2nd most romantic thing I'd ever seen in my life! The 1st being my husband's proposal ;) Jennifer Hoffman (Event Coordinator): She is a total bada$$ and yet manages to get stuff done all while being so kind and thoughtful. I can honestly say thanks to her, I went into wedding 100% stress free. She is always quick to respond to an email or text and really makes personal connections with all of her clients. My advice- go check out Kona Kai if you're planning to get married in San Diego. It is not necessarily the lowest cost you'll spend on a wedding venue, but I'm a big believer in 'you get what you pay for' AND for what you get, they really should be charging a lot more. All in all, I give Kona Kai a 10/10 for my wedding experience and my husband and I are so grateful for all of their hard work and dedication to making our special day the best day of our lives!

a club member, so when it came time to select a wedding venue, I could not imagine a better place! You simply cannot beat this intimate waterfront paradise. We housed our guests at the Kona Kai and got a great rate through the reservations team for our room block. All our family and friends felt like they were on a tropical vacation staying at the resort, and enjoyed all the activities the Kona Kai had to offer (poolside cabanas, paddle boarding, beach games, fantastic restaurant/food options, etc). I guarantee in the next couple years it will be THE place to vacation and be married in San Diego, if it hasn't already become that. Jennifer Hoffman was our "go-to gal" for everything related to the wedding. She was incredible. So attentive, creative, responsive, and had a wonderful demeanor about her- she never seems stressed! (A HUGE plus in the world of event managers!). We hosted our cocktail hour on the beach during sunset (highly recommend the spicy ahi tacos as a passed appetizer!), and our reception in the Pt Loma Ballroom (the butternut squash ravioli is TO DIE FOR). Jennifer even arranged to keep Vessel Bar open until midnight for our ambitious guests to carry on the party post-reception (with a gourmet kettle chip / blue cheese / bacon bar, nonetheless!). We wanted to do something really special for our grand entrance to the cocktail hour, and the Kona Kai dock master helped us to orchestrate our arrival via sailboat into a guest slip facing the private beach where our guests were- it was one of the most magical moments of our entire life! We cannot speak highly enough about the Kona Kai staff as a whole- they are all wonderful! Separately- I also definitely suggest taking advantage of the vendor recommendations from the Kona Kai events team. We found our florist through Jennifer (Lois Matthews Designs) and she was FABULOUS. Seeing as they had worked together before, it was one less thing for us to worry about day of. In fact- we really didn't worry about anything that day! Everything was beautiful, and we will remember our wedding day forever.

ner, I knew there are limited locations in San Diego. Luckily I stumbled across the Kona Kai while searching on-line and we were sold after our first visit. It's a hidden gem I have a feeling will soon be the "it" venue for weddings. We wanted a place to serve as a destination wedding location for all of our family and friends traveling into town. The hotel has the perfect amount of rooms so that we could see our guests through-out the weekend around the property. They did an amazing job updating this property, it is very cute and all of our guests loved it! The entire experience was perfect. From the registration desk staff to the bellmen, everyone treated us so well. The Vessel Restaurant has fabulous food and awesome service. The spa is amazing and worth a visit. We worked with Michael DaSilva to plan our wedding and he was the absolute best! Our wedding ceremony was held on the beach with the cocktail reception on the Terrace with dinner inside the Point Loma Ballroom. Everything was seamless and the party amazing! Our guests raved about the food (strongly suggest the short ribs, halibut), the service was on time and the staff was fantastic! Michael was an absolute joy to work with. We had a lot of fun working together and by the time the wedding weekend came along, he had taken care of everything so we could enjoy ourselves and not worry about a thing. We were on a mission for a beach wedding destination celebration and thanks to the Kona Kai Resort & Spa, it was more than we could have envisioned. I strongly recommend the KKR for a parties, vacations and weddings. I am so glad I found this gem to hold our dream wedding!

is was our place. We worked closely with Jennifer Hoffman to plan the perfect wedding weekend. With the help of Chris Gutierrez - the day went off without a hitch! The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were all held on their private beach with beautiful Point Loma and the marina as a backdrop. It was literally the most beautiful background/setting we could have imagined. We had approximately 112 guests. The wedding was on Friday, Sept 4th, followed by a pool party on Saturday. There are cabanas with TV's, so guests could get some shade and watch their favorite college football games. The Chef for the food/restaurant is absolutely amazing....I've ordered Huevos Rancheros every time I've been for breakfast - love it! We also really enjoyed the various sliders, mac and cheese options, burgers and so much more! We actually ewnt with stations for the wedding, because of the great variations of offerings. Guests came from all over the country and are still writing/calling us to say it was the best wedding they have ever been too and loved the relaxed and beautiful venue. We get we are a little biased, but it really was like we were on a tropical island. From the amazing food, to the friendliness of the staff, live music at the pool, bottomless mimosa/bloody mary bar, fun games in the courtyard, extremely comfortable beds / adorable rooms, water activities for kids/adults of all ages - it was a weekend to remember. Nothing was missed with their recent renovations. Although some rooms are on the smaller side (who spends time in the room, anyway), they all have great views. I can't say enough about the amazing experience not only we had working with the staff to plan the wedding but the experience our guests had spending the weekend at such a beautiful, unique boutique resort. We will be returning soon for another visit and highly recommend this be on your "must see" list for wedding venues in San Diego!

uch fun to have all of our family and friends staying together for the weekend. This is the perfect place for a destination wedding. They have a beautiful pool, hot tub, cabanas, a private beach and fire pits. Vessel restaurant has excellent food. The bar makes yummy drinks and they have a great happy hour. The hotel was completely sold out but we felt like we had the place to ourselves and it was amazing! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and they did everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We worked with Michael DaSilva to plan the wedding and he is fantastic -- professional, fun, and incredibly nice! Michael made sure everything was perfect and it really was just that. We could not be happier. We had our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception at the resort. The banquet staff were incredible. They all worked so hard to create the perfect evenings and they're great at what they do! The rehearsal dinner was on the patio overlooking the marina and after dinner we all went out to the fire pits on the beach to make s'mores. It was so much fun and all of our guests had the best time! The ceremony was on the circular patio that overlooks the marina and it was so beautiful, the pictures are amazing! The reception was the best part: delicious food, incredibly attentive and professional banquet staff, and we danced the night away. I wish we could do it all again!
