La Colombe was everything we needed for our most perfect microwedding. From my first email through the day of, Kitty helped move our day perfectly along. We had 15 guests with an outdoor ceremony followed by dinner in the private dining room. Every single dish from the Tonight & Tomorrow kitchen was perfect - including the cake! Pricing was very fair especially for the level of quality and service. The staff was all incredibly professional. And, the setting is absolutely gorgeous as any visitor can confirm. As someone more low-key who wanted an elegant but informal wedding, there was no better option in the Houston area.
My daughter had her ceremony and reception in The Mansion of La Colombre d'or.
It was truly magical. Her vision was to have a reception that was warm and inviting. This was it!!! Kitty and the entire staff made us all feel at home. From the minute we walked in to take a tour we knew this was it.
The guests raved about the food and service.
We truly thank La Colombre d'or for such a memorable evening.
As the Bride’s mother who planned a recent wedding in Houston, I recommend the following vendors who offered superior service at an excellent value: First, book La Colombe d’Or, a gorgeous venue that provides delicious food and first class service. Yes, it is a little pricier than other venues, but reduce the guest list to afford it because it’s worth it. Hire Aimee at College Park Flowers, who went the extra mile for us to transport flowers from the church to La Colombe d’Or so that they would be used again for table settings. Hire Erin Anderson for photography, who is a no-nonsense professional who surveyed the sites in advance to prepare for the most advantageous shots. Hire Allen of Allen Hill Entertainment who will meet with the Bride and Groom to select a band of their liking. Then he will meet the band at the venue to make sure they are ready to go. Hire Carlos Estela to create a delicious macaron tower instead of the wedding cake. Finally, enjoy the Bride’s special day by hiring Kelly Balforth of Eventology to coordinate all your plans with these wonderful vendors. Kelly was recommended to me by another bride who had interviewed six wedding planners before hiring her and, yes, she was my “angel of mercy” throughout the wedding day and made sure every detail was executed to perfection. Thank you Kelly!
I just had my wedding at La Colombe D'Or last month and it was the most magical night. I can't say enough about how amazing the staff was to my husband and I but also to all of our family and our guests. Everything that we wanted, they made happen and were so easy to work with. The ballroom makes the perfect backdrop to a truly elegant event, the food is phenomenal (and they are willing to change/perfect anything to your taste), and the guest rooms are the perfect place for family and friends to gather and linger. I would HIGHLY recommend this reception venue to everyone I know because you can rest assured that they will take care of you and make your wedding dreams come true.
Ed, Laura, and the whole team at La Colombe are fabulous. We held our wedding in the salon ballroom and it was absolutely flawless. Many thanks to the whole team to making our day so special!
Pros:
The venue was gorgeous and we loved every moment of the evening. The evening ran wonderfully. It was nice not having to worry about anything and to have the venue take care of everything. Our pictures turned out beautifully with such a beautiful background.
Cons:
Only two comments on the cons is a few of our wedding gifts were stolen
off the tables. A couple of our guests left their presents of cards (with gift cards inside) under their purses at the tables and when they walked away for the send-off portion of the evening the gifts were stolen. We inquired about the gifts to the venue but the venue said nothing was ever turned in. Also, the air conditioning during the event was cranked as high as it could go but it was still very hot throughout the whole evening (and this is coming from someone who is always cold).
Mary was the coordinator there and she was fabulous! She was very helpful in helping me do some off the menu things for the reception. Everyone raved about the hor dourves and meal. You really get what you pay for here. The cake was included in the venue too. The cake chef was wonderful at helping me find an off the menu flavor for my cake. I cannot say well enough how flawlessly the reception went. I keep getting thank you notes from my guest about how wonderful it was. The meals were so great my husband and I plan on going to dinner there in the new future. When you book with them you do not get a hall you get an experience of a lifetime. They know how to make a celebration that will be talked about for years to come. For those of you that enjoy history it makes it even that much better. I booked in the back ballroom. It was carved in 1715, the panels were installed at the estate near Fontenailles, just outside Paris, in 1891. The exquisite room was the scene of the last great ball of European royalty prior to World War I. Later incorporated into the back of the Fonderen's home in 1929. It is really just a fabulous bit of art and history. It does not call for heavy decor because of its details in the woodwork to the carpet. Oh and the icing on top is that you get a room also. It was great that all we had to do was walk up to our room. Each room in the main house is themed after a painter. We stayed in the Renoir room and it was fabulous!
This facility was so beautiful with mixing old world charm and the love of art. The service was detailed and my guest continue to rave about the food. Ed was a gem to work with in making sure everything was perfect.
We loved this venue. The staff were friendly and the rooms were gorgeous. This place is unlike any other hotel or ballroom we looked at. Instead of the typical wallpapered walls that all look the same in photos, the backdrop of our reception had elegant, carved wooden walls with wonderful character. The food was also quite delicious. I am a very happy bride.
I am very pleased with La Colombe D'or. During planning of the reception, the owner and organizer would always great us with a smile and a cocktail. The price was definately worth the result. Guest were very happy with the food. I recommend the lobster bisque and chilean seabass. I can not wait to personally the staff at La Colombe D'or for all that they did.
Our reception was unbelievable! Ed at La Colombe d'Or made sure all our wishes came true! We had nothing to worry about because Ed earned our trust in our early meetings and tastings. We knew we were in great hands and our reception was a night we will never forget!
La Colombe d'or on my opinion is the best venue in Houston. i visited many but this is different, not the usual country club or hotel. The ballroom is spectacular, very unique, and the service is impeccable. Ed Bodde is extremely professional and helpful. The place is a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it.
Ed Bodde, from La Colombe D'Or, was a delight to work with from beginning to end. He made my bridal party feel right at home and was so accommodating. He stepped up when my wedding coordinator failed, miserably, and handled the entire event, when he had 2 other private dinners in the main restaurant. My husband and I were so grateful, that besides my parents, he was the only person we brought a gift for on our honeymoon.
The venue itself is beautiful beyond words. It is a 19th century French ballroom that has been transported to Houston, and attached to a beautiful mansion in the Montrose area. The first floor of the house is a very high end restaurant, so your caterer comes highly recommended from most of the elite diners in Houston. The second floor consists of 5 hotel rooms, which make for a perfect place for the bridesmaids to get ready in, and for the family to sleep in the night of the reception. The entire restaurant and ballroom are an art museum so great pieces are everywhere on the walls. The gold gilded mirrors and chandeliers in the ballroom are beautiful and give that true romantic feeling you are hoping for at your wedding reception.
