My husband and I got married at Larz Anderson in august 2020 after downsizing our plans to a small ceremony on the lawn, it was perfect. We were able to hold our reception a year later in the form of an anniversary party. Thee museum and the grounds are gorgeous and there is a rotating collection of interesting cars as well as the classic Anderson collection in the basement. Most importantly Karen and Sylvia are an absolute joy to work with. Karen helped us plan and re plan our wedding over the course of 2+ years. She was easily reachable and always a calming presence through all of the ups and downs of planning a wedding during a pandemic. They both ensured that everything went smoothly the day of our ceremony and a year later at our reception. Both days were so perfect we may have to come back every year!
My husband and I got married at the Larz in September and were pleased with how smoothly everything ran – they even ordered perfect weather for us. When we booked the venue, their stunning architecture, beautiful grounds, and non-wedding package feel was what drew us to them. We had our ceremony at the top of the hill with the view of the Boston skyline, did our family photos by the Temple of Love, cocktail hour in the museum itself and our reception was on a tent on the lawn. We had to choose a caterer from their list of accepted ones (which is pretty much every caterer you typically find in Boston so no issue there) but other than that there were minimal restrictions (except don’t touch the cars, they’re alarmed!). They let us bring in all the other vendors even our own alcohol, including my Husbands own home brew beer. We did have the museum close an hour early to allow our caterer to set up which was worth it and highly recommended. Karen was very responsive in all our correspondence and a pleasure to work with. We were supposed to have a golf cart to use the day of to get around the park quickly (and for our guests that weren’t as mobile) but unfortunately the golf cart broke the evening before our event. Instead they had someone with a car to drive our guests around that needed help (but obviously were unable to drive on the lawn itself with the car). Other than that the wedding was a huge success and we love that we can always easily go back to our wedding spot now as it’s a museum and public park.
I honestly cannot say enough great things about this venue! I am not even a car person (my fiancé is though) and I had the best time - it was the best day of our lives! The venue is stunning and so unique. All of our guests were in awe of the amazing collection and the beautiful building. The venue coordinator, Karen, is such a joy to work with! She is not only helpful (she is always ready to give a recommendation and we used many of them and were so pleased), but she also genuinely cares about the museum, and the couples that choose to get married in it. I'm already trying to think of what large party I can host there again!
My husband and I got married here last weekend and I wish we could do it all over again!!! This is such an amazing and unique venue for a wedding. Almost all of our guest told us it was the best wedding they have ever been to. The ground are beautiful, so you don’t even have to do much work to space. Karen, the event planner was a dream to work with and was on top of everything. If you are looking for a unique venue in Boston, Larz Anderson is your spot!
We got married at the museum, both ceremony and reception were indoors because of the weather.
I totally loved it!!! It is a gorgeous place to get married, Karen is amazing, she had been so good with replies and very helpful during the entire process.
Guests loved the place and we had a blast! Food recommended by Karen was delicious and staff and everything was just perfect!
I highly recommend the museum for any event. You won't regret it!! :)
This is a great place for a wedding! Karen is really helpful and easy to work with, and the whole staff was great during the event. All our guests absolutely loved the unique venue, and we're really glad we chose it.
This was the most wonderful place to have our wedding reception. The museum is beautiful, interesting and all of our guests were amazed and had a great time. Even if you aren’t a car fanatic, you will love the exhibits and architecture. We had good weather and were able to use the outside patio for cocktail hour before heading inside for dinner and dancing. With about 100 guests, that seemed to be about the most you could fit for a sit down dinner inside and still have room to move around and dance. I also liked that there was flexibility in how we could do the seating and use the space inside. Karen at the museum was great to work with, and always very prompt in responding to emails. You do have to choose a caterer from their approved list, but there is a lot of variety and the caterer we chose was fantastic. We felt that the rental rate was reasonable, and in line with similar venues. If you want a truly unique place to have a wedding reception in the Boston area, Larz Anderson is the way to go.
this was such a good choice. my family and friends have not stopped calling and dropping in saying how amazing everything was, all staying because of this venue!!! great people to work with, good communication, good amenities, just perfect!!!! I'm sure everyone loves their wedding, so of course i think mine was the best, thank you larz Anderson team!!!!!!
We got married at Larz Anderson Auto Museum this past August. We had a our ceremony at the park and our cocktail and reception at the museum. We could not have been happier with the venue and its staff. Working with Karen Hasenfus was a pleasure from the beginning of our process. Karen and her team's professionalism, assistance and care resonated until the last guest left the venue ten months later.
We had an 80 person wedding inside the carriage house, which we thought was the perfect size. The main room overall flowed nicely and did not feel tight at all, while still maintaining a decent size dance floor. If considering a summer or late summer (when temps are slightly cooler) reception inside the museum, we recommend upping the suggested 2 fan to 3 or 4. It gets hot in that room, but that is manageable.
Other than that, you can count on a beautiful and super cool venue; and a timely, responsive and informative group to work with at the museum.
We absolutely loved having our wedding at Larz! It was a perfect spot for a June wedding. We had the ceremony outside on the Great Lawn, we had the cocktail hour out in front of the Museum's main entrance, and we had dinner and dancing inside the Museum. Our guests thought it was a great location, and many locals told us they had never been there before. Karen was great to work with; very friendly and quick to respond to any questions we had throughout the whole process. The rest of the museum staff who were there the day of the wedding were also great and so helpful in making everything run smoothly for our wedding. I highly recommend Larz for any event
We got married here last fall. We had a terrible experience from the beginning. We felt as though there was a lack of communication throughout the entire wedding process. Not once did anyone check in with us to see where progress was, what vendors we chose, what the next steps were etc. Further, when the wedding planner, Karen (who you have to use) explained to us the price, she failed to mention that each vendor who comes in has to pull a permit that you have to pay for. So, although the cost to rent the venue was $5500, it ended up being closer to $10,000 just to get in the door. It wouldn't have stopped us (at that point) but would have been nice to be warned.
We went to do our final walk through the week before, and at this point I was obviously stressed out and annoyed, but thought this would alleviate all those feelings. We met on a weeknight after the museum was closed. My husband and I were sitting on the bench right outside the door waiting, when Karen’s assistant, Sylvia walked directly by us, didn't even glance in our direction, and went right inside the locked building. Having not met her before, we weren't sure who she was, and kind of laughed it off. About 5 minutes later our caterer and bar service came. Sylvia came out and greeted them, again without acknowledging us and complained about how she had to be there after hours. This was never mentioned before, and we would have been happy to do it at another time. We walked into the museum only to find out that all of the cars had been removed and replaced with motorcycles. We were absolutely horrified. We went through the walk through and left. I emailed the wedding planner expressing concerns and frustrations over no one telling us about the motorcycles and she assured me that it was okay because people like them and was shocked I hadn't known about it given the amount of attention it has gotten in the globe and herald. Obviously did not make me feel better, but the show must go on.
Our rehearsal was the night before our wedding with a dinner to follow at a different location. They were an hour late for the rehearsal and did nothing to help but stand there. So, we organized it ourselves and went to dinner an hour late.
The day of the wedding came, and I was obviously excited, and somehow was able to clear my mind of all that had gone on before. It was after all, my wedding day. We got there early to do pictures with our family and wedding party. Karen would not let us have drinks while doing this, which was frustrating, but not the worst thing in the world. When it came time for the wedding to start, Karen was absolutely nowhere to be found. My sister, the maid of honor had to quiet the crowd and orchestrate everyone walking down the aisle. Our ceremony was very quick, as we had said all along it would be. So, when it was over, naturally everyone went to the bar. Karen hadn't hired the security guard to be there until later, and wouldn't let people get drinks until he showed up. So, people were forced to stand around for almost 30 minutes. For the rest of the night, they were both rude to me, my husband and all of our guests. Many people asked us after who Karen was and why she was so rude to everyone.
At the end of the day, our wedding was amazing. We had a blast, we had a great band, great food and an absolutely fantastic bar service. But, until they hire a new planner, I would not suggest my worst enemy get married there.
The venue is beautiful and unique which is why we chose it. Our guests loved it and had a really great time. Beware though the event coordinator will tell you that it can hold between 120-150 people comfortably with the proper table arrangements, however, we had 110 people in the table arrangement that was suggested to us to best fit the space and it was a bit tight. In our opinion if you want to have a large dance floor, no more than 100 people for a seated dinner. Also, we felt as though we paid a decent amount of money to rent this space and found the staff to be very rigid and not willing to work with us and be flexible all that often, which was disappointing. We would recommend the venue because it is beautiful and unique as I mentioned above, but beware that there is no room for flexibility with the wedding coordinator.
we loved this as our location. we had our ceremony outside and cocktail hour moved into the back which actually worked better because it was cold out. I loved the main space and having our dance floor close to the big beautiful castle doors :)
I just recently got married at Larz Anderson and I loved it. My guests loved it. It's a great conversation piece. I got married outside and my reception was inside. Even if it rained my plan B was to get married inside, which is still a unique and fun venue. It was sunny luckily. Perfect spot for pictures as well. Just an overall great place.
The Auto museum was AWESOME. The guests loved looking at the old cars during the cocktail portion, and the tent space outside was perfect for dinner and dancing. The museum staff does a ton of weddings and was really really helpful (even pinning my dress for me at one point). There is a separate kids room where smaller guests could play with cars and be comfortably baby sat. There are 2 gorgeous spaces for outdoor photos--one with views of the city, the other at a picturesque gazebo.
