Legion of Honor was my dream wedding venue. We reserved our wedding date one year in advance (when they start opening dates), paid the deposit, and started hiring vendors. Eight months before our wedding, we were told that they no longer could host our wedding because one of the art directors determined they wanted to book an exhibit (a very uncharacteristic one for the venue and one that would not allow food or beverage) in the galleries. It was devastating.
Our wedding planner said she had never experienced anything like this and was also appalled with how they handled the situation. While they created significant stress and quite the scramble for us, they did refund our deposit and a few fees we incurred that were non-refundable.
The Legion of Honor is a beautiful venue for a wedding. The background is beautiful and makes for great pictures.
The only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is because you have to choose one of their list of caterers, which are all really great, but expensive.
We had some of our wedding pictures taken at the Legion of Honor. The columns were amazing. They do not allow videography here.
This venue is gorgeous and romantic- and completely unique setting. We had our wedding on the lawn and the reception in the Rodin Galleries upstairs. On a non-foggy SF day, you can see the GG bridge and Marin from the lawn. The artwork is incredible as well - a treat for guests to get to see.
Dani Lamas is the venue coordinator and is amazing - very professional and detail oriented.
The only drawbacks are :
1) the museum closes at 5:00 - so you can't start until 7:00ish (by the time you get everything set up)
2) they have a ton of rules to work around - definitely recommend having a fulltime planner to deal with it.
the legion of honor is a spectacular place for a wedding. we got married by the thinker had photos in the courtyard cocktails surrounded by antiquities and the reception in the cafe.;it is chilly.
