I loved this venue and I'm so happy that I chose it for my budget friendly wedding. It was great because you could dress it up as much as you wanted to, or leave it simple, and still have a beautiful wedding. I've only deducted a star because I would caution against selecting the venue if you are a high-stress bride who wants to offload some of the planning to someone else. You get what you pay for, some venues come with a on-site coordinator, and while Ravenswood will have someone on site on your wedding day, it is your job to fully execute and plan the wedding. All of the staff were extremely helpful and had done everything as planned with respect to the tables, easel placement, chairs, etc. but it was still our job to decorate everything, keep the wedding timeline on schedule, and ensure everything was taken away at the end of the night. If you want a more hands-on site coordinator/wedding planner, I would definitely recommend either selecting another venue or paying someone to do those things. It will make your life a lot easier. But we did pull it off without anyone, and all things considered, I don't really have any regrets! Thanks Ravenswood!
We had our wedding here a few weeks back, and I have to say, we could not have picked a better venue. It's seriously gorgeous, and the grounds are meticulously cared for. LARPD was pretty easy to work with, and Aaron was our coordinator for the day. He's super awesome and helpful. The only thing I was concerned about was that the party had to be over by 7pm, but it turned out to be the perfect amount of time. I absolutely loved having our wedding here, and I would do it again in a heart beat!
I would never give LARPD a cent. What awful people to deal with. After calling a number of times over a solid week just to schedule this place with Carol Markie we finally got a call back. This was more than 6 months before our wedding day. 2 weeks after booking we had some unfortunate events happen in our lives were we needed to change dates. Before we even had a chance to explain we needed to change dates Carol made it clear we were not getting back our $500. No regard for our situation or even wanted to work with us. What a heartless individual and should never have a job in customer service. All they care about is the money. If you want to contribute to that go ahead and have your wedding here. I'm glad writing in a date and erasing 2 weeks later is worth $500 to them. Thieves!
We ended up discovering Ravenswood via Google, when trying to locate an SF area venue that would allow us to have food trucks and home brewed beer. They were incredibly accommodating, the property is gorgeous and well-maintained, and they had tables, chairs, and umbrellas as part of their rental, which made our lives easier. We primarily worked with Carol and Kevin, who answered all of our questions promptly, helped us design sunny and rainy day seating plans for both the ceremony and reception, and generally went above and beyond to make sure our wedding day happened smoothly. Carol and the facility staff helped us set up the day-of; and the on-site facility manager, Carl, was a big help and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the day.
Definite Positives:
- Flexible catering options (even non-traditional services)
- Provides tables, chairs, and umbrellas (linens not provided)
- Has additional services such lawn games, for reasonable price
- Communication, contracts, and guidelines very clear
- Reasonable price, given the area and the services provided
- Beautiful location, well-maintained
Things to Keep in Mind:
- Seasonal hours (facility is open a shorter period of time during winter months, however "summer" hours begin early in the year)
- Good for day weddings, but is not available after sunset
The site is beautiful, but with it comes a few warnings. I put my deposit down in Jan. and after pestering them daily I finally received a contract in April. Until this point we only had a verbal even though they had cashed my check. The walk through went well (we got to deal with the workers who set up and tear down). We had requests for a jumpy house and horse and carriage, couple of weeks later I had permission in writing. A month before the event I received a call from the facility's supervisor saying I didn't have permission to have the jumpy house. I forwarded her the email from her boss showing permission and suddenly she was OK with it. All seemed fine until the day before the wedding, I received a frantic phone call from the supervisor saying we didn't have permission for horse and carriage. I had to bring in my contract showing written permission. Then we were asked to provide Ins forms for the vendors. All were not a problem but the day before the wedding is not the day to read your contracts! They have too many chefs and not enough servers.
My review would be higher if not for the horrible day of wedding mix up with the chairs. After visiting twice and going over the plan TWICE with the on site coordinator, we got the wrong chairs, which were horrible. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't care but because they had only one person working that day, my bridesmaids and the 2 dads (in their tuxes) had to stack the old chairs and re set the lawn. And the one person that was there tried to convince us to keep the horrible ugly chairs! The chair issue set us back by about 45 minutes from our timeline and I was unable to take all of the pictures I wanted with my new husband. Very disappointing service. but the venue was everything I hoped it would be. Just gorgeous!
