STAY AWAY FROM LONE MOUNTAIN RANCH! THEY ARE NOT ACTIVELY FOLLOWING THEIR OWN STATED COVID PROTOCOLS!
The following statement was included in our reservation confirmation, but after a recent 4 night stay, we found that no one at the ranch was actually putting these protocols into practice. As a result, our family of two adults and two young children have tested positive for COVID-19 upon our return home.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS DURING YOUR VISIT TO LMR
"Our new protocols include capacity reductions in all food & beverage areas, health measures during our activities and an EPA recommended cleaning process in our cabins and throughout the property." - FALSE. All of our evening meals, both at the Horn & Cantle Restaurant and the North Ridge Cabin (sleigh ride), were packed to full seating capacities. Our cabins were clean, however all public restrooms, ie Outpost and Restaurant, were dirty and neglected. Not sure what is meant by “health measures”. We saw none being taken.
"Don't forget your mask! Per Governor Bullock's July 15th Directive, all people over the age of 5 must wear masks inside public spaces, which includes our Outpost and Horn & Cantle Restaurant. The full directive and exceptions can be found here. Please feel free to click here for further details on our service and health update." - FALSE. All Shuttle drivers, Concierge and Wait staff were unmasked and often did not (or could not) maintain appropriate social distancing. The underlined hyperlinks go to “Error Pages” and redundant messaging.
Even though they never wore masks, we received outstanding service from the following folks on the LMR team during our stay:
Miles (Shuttle Driver)
Ellen (Hostess & Waitress)
Porter (Waiter)
Ben (Sleigh Driver)
Jordan (Nordic Ski Instructor)
Erika & Naomi (Front Desk & Concierge)
Jordann & Emma (Reservations)
This was our 2nd time staying with LMR. Our first was two summers ago, and unfortunately, several wonderful aspects that prompted us to return this past winter will sadly keep us from coming back in the future.
Their National Geographic Society designation was no longer valid.
Most of the indoor public areas looked like they had not been dusted and/or mopped in a very long time.
Overall, the food was not what it had been two years ago. Most of it was either heavily salted and over-buttered (lobster), or just bland (trout). The sleigh ride dinner was equivalent to eating at Golden Corral and the breakfast/lunch buffets had little to no daily variety whatsoever.
We had read that the cabins come equipped with games, and while there were some Lincoln Logs and a deck of cards my daughter found under one of the beds, they could not provide any additional games when we made the request.
We spoke personally with Randy, the property manager, and requested that all of our car rides with just our family and a LMR driver be mask-required. He said he would make sure that happened. But it did not. Our driver who took us to the Bozeman airport didn’t even have a mask (we had to provide one for him) and gave us a begrudging attitude when we politely asked him to wear it while in the car with us. “You know this is Montana,” he said. So we paid more than $12,000 for four nights, were made to feel shamed and embarrassed when we asked that staff where masks (how dare we inconvenience them!!), and we came home with our family’s first COVID infections (we’re all vaxed and boostered, btw).
As a professional wedding + event planner living in Los Angeles, California, my fiancé and I have incredible ties to Montana and knew that we wanted to get married in the Big Sky Area. The first time I stepped foot on Lone Mountain Ranch I knew that it couldn't have been more perfect. There's no question that this incredible property is a must visit -- However, the most special part about this property and venue are the staff. They worked with us to build a wedding weekend that was so special for us and our guests. The food is spectacular, the venues onsite all offer such different experiences, and we were able to do a full buyout of the property so all of our guests could stay together. The customer service and hospitality are not to be believed and they will help you through every step of the process. Abril, Ryan, Eric, and Angela went above and beyond for us and we could not be more grateful. As someone who is well versed in the wedding industry, I could not speak more highly about this venue, their staff, and the amenities that LMR provides. If you're looking for the wedding and experience of a lifetime, Lone Mountain Ranch IS the penultimate wedding venue. You can stop looking at all other venues in the area -- this place is a diamond in the rough.
We've been going to Big Sky for the past five years and love being out there so much we decided Montana was the perfect place for our destination wedding in March. We've been to the ranch's Horn & Cantle restaurant many times on our trips out and can't say enough good things about the atmosphere, staff, and food there. We booked the ranch for an intimate wedding for 30 of our close friends and immediate family members and it was absolutely perfect! All of our guests stayed for the weekend (or week) in the newly renovated cabins, they all loved their rustic charm. The ranch concierge contacted all the guests a few weeks before to schedule and coordinate any additional activities they wanted to do while they were there. They were also really great about accommodating special requests and food allergies. We did the sleigh ride dinner at the ranch the night before the wedding which was great as well, prime rib dinner with entertainment throughout and the meal was delicious. The ceremony was in their ranch hall (a roofed timber structure with tent sides) sleighs brought all of our guests up to the ceremony with a champagne reception at their arrival. They have a beautiful wooden arbor that was decorated with flowers and greenery at the front of the space and they rolled up the tent side behind so we all had gorgeous views out to the snow and trees. Afterwards they brought us up to the "ridge" for some amazing pictures with the mountains behind and followed with a reception and dinner at their B-K cabin which couldn't have been more perfect especially the food! All of our guest said they had such a great time...someone said it was the prettiest wedding they've ever been too (and considering hers was the nicest wedding I've been too that was such a nice compliment!) another said everything was so beautiful it could have been in a magazine and we have Lone Mountain to thank for that! We had such a great time from start to finish and it really was our perfect wedding day:)
When Annie and I set about planning our wedding, we decided to go big - we wanted fireworks, a whole pig roast, multiple live bands - the works. We spent about six months concocting the party to end all parties, but after awhile it dawned on us that something about this just didn’t feel like “us.” What we really wanted was to spend time with family, and to celebrate the new family unit we would be forming together. A little backyard ceremony would have been nice, but we still carried some of the grand ambition that had shaped our vision of the festival we had first dreamed up, and we wanted to honor our union in a way that felt truly spectacular, but perhaps with fewer pyrotechnics than our original plan entailed.
A few summers back, Annie and I had used an unoccupied summer semester during graduate school as an opportunity for adventure, and we moved out to Montana to work a season at Lone Mountain Ranch. That summer spent living in the upstairs apartment of an old barn was a formative time in our relationship, and there seemed no better place to say our vows than back at the ranch.
Cutting to the chase, we made the right decision. I remembered how well guests were treated back when we were employees, but even still I was blown away by the service we received. Working with Abril and Angela to plan the ceremony and dinner took all the stress out of the process, and allowed us to just feel excited in the weeks before the wedding, instead of worrying about any loose ends we hadn’t addressed. Their communication was clear and thorough, and they paid close attention to make this event something that we and our families would fondly remember for a lifetime. The horse-drawn sleigh to the ridge top ceremony, the private dinner by firelight, the beautiful and utterly delicious wedding cake - everything was handled with such care and attention to detail, we felt like royalty.
We returned home with more happy memories and favorite experiences than I could write into this review, but to name a few highlights: stepping outside our cabin into freshly groomed snow for a morning jaunt on cross country skis - the warm, flaky homemade croissants I relished every breakfast - cheerful singalongs with Bruce Anfanson at North Fork Cabin - an enormous, friendly draft horse trying to munch my boutonnière - seeing my beautiful elven princess of a bride for the first time under gently falling snow. To sum it all up, Lone Mountain Ranch is an unbeatable place to spend time with loved ones and make lasting memories, and Annie and I are beyond grateful to everyone who helped make our wedding there such a magical experience.
We had our wedding here on september 1st and it was absolutely amazing! The ranch itself is a stunning property. Our ceremony was up on "the ridge" with lone peak as our backdrop, and our reception was hosted in their newly renovated outdoor pavilion. The space was perfect for our crew of 85 guests. As a venue, this place gets 5 stars. I cannot wait to see our photos!
Unfortunately the planning process was anything but easy. Be prepared to coordinate and set-up everything yourselves. We got the impression that this place doesn't specialize in weddings. The planning process was unorganized with spotty communication from the event manager, Abril. We are from MN so we couldn't just stop in at the ranch to visualize set-up or measure anything. We relied on her to help with this especially. I definitely do not recommend booking this place if you are not in the area! We got what we needed, but felt in the dark and had to pry for information the entire process. The ranch had a busy summer, as we were told, but you'd think a wedding would be higher on their priority list!
On the day of the wedding (little did I know at the time) our friends and family set EVERYTHING up, including haybale seating for 78 people- which was promised in our contract to be set up by the ranch. Their was little help from Abril, who was MIA for much of the day. It seemed as if LMR had no idea our wedding was happening. I guess we just expected to have more help and direction the day-of. Somehow everything turned out exactly how we had planned, with the help of our dear friends and family. I will say the food was outstanding, we had people raving about it all night! The bartenders were great, and the service staff at the reception were attentive to our needs (shoutout to Miguel!).
We expected an invoice showing a detailed bill for everything the day after, but instead my credit card was charged without being notified. I found this out only because my card got declined while out to lunch two days after. We stopped in at the ranch to discuss the bill, but Abril was out of the office and we had to wait to hear from her once again.
All things considered, 9/1/17 was the best day ever and we made beautiful memories at this ranch. It just involved a lot of unnecessary stress and hard work. Especially considering what we paid to have our wedding here.
