LONGS MADE BUYING MY ENGAGEMENT RING A MISERABLE EXPERIENCE!
My fiancé ordered a custom setting for my engagement ring. When he received it, Long’s apologized for its “weird” design and lack of resemblance to the picture my fiancé had sent. Every employee I spoke to said it was “bizarre” and did not know why it would be designed as such or why the setting was chipped and scratched when I received it.
They said they would change it, but the ring would have to be sent away for two months. Upon me asking, they said they could take the diamond out of the “weird” setting and put it in a setting in the store within the hour. Note, they never suggested this solution, insisting I had to give my new engagement ring back for two months in order to fix it.
After waiting an hour and returning to the store, they told me the setting style required another day. However, they knew the setting style before they had me wait.
Haley, the Nashua store, was helpful and kind. Everyone else couldn’t be bothered to fix the “strange” and beat up ring THEY designed and sold. Long’s made every step of designing and buying my engagement ring MISERABLE.
PS: When I went into the store to get rid of the setting they designed, I said “I’m here to change my ring setting because there was a mix up with the design.” Multiple employees said no we don’t do that, even though, they had previously discussed correcting the “odd” design and damage. Then, they said oh yes are you Heather?… I don’t know a Heather. Did they design a weird and damaged ring for a “Heather” too?
On a call about fixing the ring, they asked if the order was under my name or Sean’s. I don’t know a Sean. Did they screw up a ring for a “Sean” as well?
How many engagement rings did they mess up recently?
Bought an engagement ring almost 1 year ago (11/22) $16,787.50 total sale price, diamond was $13,300. Custom made platinum setting. The ring lived in the box was never worn and barely handled.
Brought the ring back to thrBurlington MA store to sell. Immediately before even seeing the ring the representitve says the diamond market has fallen 4x times in the last 6 months (currently 11/23). Presented with the ring she also states that the diamonds Princess cut was undesierd which I in fact was aware of.
My instinct at this point indicates classic sales tactics, lower expectations of outcome. Create or raise discrepancies for negotiation leverage. It lowers your expectations of overall outcome... Think used car salesman.
I insist the information is irrelevant to me and I would like to just know what the offer is and to consult with managers. As ultimately the offer will be the offer that's it. I am uninterested in the reasoning just want to know the number.
She now begins to inspect the ring and claims there has been damage caused around one of the prong areas. I insist that there must be an error as I had just brought the ring in 6 months prior for my first consultation on sell/trade options and this was not mentioned.
Again ring has NEVER been worn. It's never been past the knuckle of anyone's finger. I insisting there is no damage, she in my opinion shifts presumed liability for the damage by stating "we" could have done it in the setting and it would be covered under insurance.
Classic sales tactics here- preset elements to lower expectations add negotiation leverage.
The representative leaves the desk area to consult with managers holding the ring just loose in her hand!!! As if it were pocket change. The ring is professionally polished and has never been worn, barely handled and she's handling it bare handed. This is getting her body oils all over the piece degrading the polish. There was no white glove!! I think better care and practice should be taken.
Shortly the representitve returns with a trade-in offer $6500 and cash price of $5000. Not very happy with the offer.
Long's does have have trade-in program in which they give you full retail price to upgrade. This was my understanding at least which apparently was completely wrong.
I was told you DO NOT get full retail price towards and upgrade only the cost of the stone is considered ($13,300 diamond).
BE AWARE: The program only applies to diamonds for upgrade and does not transfer to any other type of merchandise!!!
For example I was offered $6500 store credit for my ring. I could use it to purchase a Rolex, gold etc. was not offered the $13,300 value of the stone as a store credit.
I was not aware of this stipulation. It is extremely important to always ask questions before making any final decisions.
I have trusted Longs Jewelers for many years with all my fine jewelry purchases, repairs and previous estate jewelery sales. How I thought Longs buy back program worked was a large factor in my decision to purchase here. This is why I originally felt comfortable making the jewelrs golden purchase with Long's. As a result of this experience I will look to take my future jewelry needs elsewhere.
I feel Longs Jewelers should be more transparent about the program they offer. All the stipulations, terms and conditions should be presented in a written document either before or after purchase. This information was not provided at any time.
I worked with Long's from engagement ring design all the way through wedding bands. Alex was absolutely amazing and made every step so easy and enjoyable. He is extremely knowledgeable and was just as excited as I was. When we couldn't find the exact engagement ring I wanted, we designed one together and he was there for me every step of the way. We will be customers for life.

We had an amazing experience at Long's! My husband purchased my engagement ring there and they helped him put together a beautiful ring. I got my 2 wedding bands and he got his band there as well. We went in during the wedding band weekend and were helped right away and got exactly what we wanted!
I go in every so often to get my rings cleaned and the staff is always great. Would highly recommend!
Long’s is the place to go for all your jewelry needs. They have the highest quality products and are able to assist with varying price points for engagement and wedding bands. They are never pushy and have several opportunities throughout the year to see additional products and get sizable discounts. My husband first discovered Long’s while looking for my engagement ring – he wanted a GIA-certified jeweler and was seeking a specific, top-quality stone, which is how he came to meet Judd. Unbeknownst to me, Judd and my husband had already met and had been talking for months during my first trip to Long’s. When we entered the store “looking just for fun,” Judd pretended he was just meeting both of us, all while casually sizing me and confirming I liked the style the guys had been discussing leading up to this visit. He was even able to sneakily show my husband the exact diamond he was holding just for my ring! After the big surprise, it was so fun going back to Long’s for wedding bands and re-meeting Judd under the circumstances. Both of our bands ended up as custom orders, perfectly meeting our wishes and I was also able to purchase a beautiful pair of pearl earrings for the big day as well. As a final wedding day purchase, we also ended up getting my mom’s favorite pair of earrings repaired for her to wear. All and all, we have nothing negative to say about our many experiences at Long’s. The staff is always courteous and helpful and when COVID hit, Long’s instituted practical procedures to keep everyone safe and never missed a beat. We greatly appreciate Long’s support, specifically Judd, in assisting to select and purchase these very important items – we will forever cherish our rings and will certainly be back!
Bought a vintage engagement ring $1400 and ended up not proposing and they said they’ll take it back for $500.
They values the ring at $1600 when I bought it but they would only pay $500 for it. Pretty dishonest and the lack of integrity is unprecedented.
UPDATE:
the rep from Long's Jewelers called me after reaching out to tell me that this offer was more than fair (they offered 40% of the ring value). and they funny thing is that the sales rep told me that I'm getting a great deal when I was buying the ring the stone itself worth more than that.

We had the pleasure of speaking to Mr. Iyob on the phone and we now understand a little better what took place. After purchasing the ring in 2018, a year later, we very fairly offered him a trade credit $87 shy of what he actually paid for the ...
ring, which he declined. It has now been two years since his purchase. He does not want a credit, but wants a cash offer. We feel terribly that he does not think that this is a fair option, but we stand behind it as we would have to refurbish the ring seeing that it has been in his possession for well over a year. We will gladly honor the $1000 trade if he chooses to accept.
My husband got my engagement ring at Long's, and we purchased our wedding bands there at their Wedding Band weekend. My rings are so, so beautiful -- and the staff is always so friendly and helpful when I go in to have them shined up. They even refinished my engagement ring for free before the wedding so that it would match my shiny new wedding band!
We picked our bands up 2 weeks before the wedding, and unfortunately my husband's wedding band was too big (our fault - his hands must have been swollen when we purchased) and they said it could take 4 weeks to get a new one in. We thought "no big deal - our fault for waiting to pick these up" -- but then they got the wedding band in the week of the wedding!!
They came through AGAIN when my husband purchased me some earrings using the diamonds from my grandmother's wedding band 1.5 weeks before the wedding, not expecting he'd be able to give them to me that day. The earrings came in the day of the wedding, and he was able to send a friend to pick them up so he could give them to me at our first look. It was so special to have them - I can't thank their team enough!!

My husband and I attended a big wedding band event at the Burlington location and Long's really knocked it out of the park with a huge selection & great discounts. Very happy with the items we ended up with. My husband was actually very excited to wear his Damascus steel ring despite being a guy that never really wears jewelry. Stopped by a week before the wedding and they cleaned both my band & engagement ring (which we purchased elsewhere) for free, so that was a nice touch as well.
We had the most wonderful experience searching for and purchasing our wedding bands at Long's Jewelers in Peabody, MA! Paul Weber in the Peabody store welcomed us, eased our nerves and did everything to ensure that this was an enjoyable process for us! We provided Paul with an idea of what types of rings we were looking for and he found ones that far exceeded our expectations! He worked within our budget and even gave my fiancé some great ideas for future anniversary gifts (which I was very happy about!!)! After our experience, we are certain that we will be lifelong customers of Long's Jewelers!
I can’t say enough about my experience at Long’s. We got my engagement ring and both wedding bands at Long’s. Ruppina And Craig were amazing! One of the best things my husband ever did was purchasing my engagement ring at Long's...we are now forever customers! We have since been back to purchase our wedding bands (special shout-out to Bill! He was great!), and they've been so helpful with resizing, cleaning, etc. Their customer service is top-notch all around!

For our 25th anniversay, my husband wanted to give me a special gift - a new wedding ring. We hadn't bought much jewelry in recent years since we were raising a family, but had been to Long's Jewelers in the past. They were the first jeweler we visited and I am so glad we did. From the minute we walked in, all of the same staff greeted us from years ago. Judd easily remembered us and immediately asked about the family before asking what we were looking for! It was so much fun to look at all of the diamond rings and bands with no pressure. The staff at Long's truly wants to make you feel comfortable and help you find the perfect ring.
After much discussion, we decided to use my original diamond and choose a new setting. Long's "Remake Your Ring Event" was coming up, so Judd suggested we wait and go to the event and meet with their different vendors. At no time, did he pressure us to buy anything at all.
We went to the Remake Your Ring Event and had so much fun looking at all of the possibilities, each time with our budget in mind. We eventually, with the help of Judd and Diane, designed my dream ring. It was not only in budget, but was so reasonably priced I was able to purchase a matching diamond band.
I can't say enough about the personal service, quality, and affordability of Longs. If you think you can't afford a high end jeweler like Long's, think again. You will not be disappointed. I love my new 25th anniversary wedding ring and band.

Buying an engagement ring is intimidating! No matter how much you research beforehand, it’s hard to feel totally prepared walking into the store. Working with Joe Bragdon took the uneasiness out of the process. I never once felt pressured to make a quick decision or pushed towards one option over another. I had A LOT of questions and Joe answered them all thoughtfully without ever once showing impatience. Maybe more importantly, Joe asked the right questions to provoke important considerations I hadn’t previously thought of. Joe felt like an ally throughout the process and gave me the confidence to make the absolute best decision I could have. I feel extremely grateful to have had Joe on my side… oh and she absolutely loves the ring!

My husband and I have been shopping at Longs since 2005. He bought my amazing engagement ring there and we have been going there every since. Recently we wanted to up grade my rings for our 10th wedding anniversary and Joe in Peabody helped us find exactly what I wanted. I went to Longs for an engagement ring. I sat down to view three stones. The stones were all immaculate. I found the perfect ring! They were professional and knowledgeable. My fiancé bought my engagement ring at Longs in Nashua NH. He told me of the wonderful experience he had. My own experience was just as wonderful. I had to have my ring resized. Making the appointment was extremely easy. Upon arrival I was greeted by all faces that were on the floor. I figured I would drop my ring off to be sized and leave for the estimated 45 minutes. Instead I browsed around the shop and had great conversation with three different employees. Very little of this conversation was related to jewelry. There was no pressure to buy. We discussed wedding plans, vacations, childhood memories...life. I felt

Long's has great quality jewelry and superb customer service. We got my engagement ring and both our wedding rings here, and would recommend Long's to everyone. I love Longs and have been going for years before getting engaged/married. We usually go to the Longs in Peabody, and work with Jennifer Jones, who is amazing and so helpful!!
We love the selection and quality that Longs offers. We enjoyed taking advantage of the discounted wedding bands that were offered during a wedding band weekend twice a year. They also have vintage items or pre-owned items, which are discounted so you don't always feel like you're breaking the bank. They have something for every price range, and you can count on the quality of your items. If you're not satisfied, they offer a 30 day money back guarantee, free ring sizing (1 per ring), and you can always upgrade items with them down the road.

My fiancé worked with Alex in the Nashua, NH store - he said he was great to work with, and had a ton of diamond options. We have since been back to get my engagement ring re-sized and to pick out our wedding bands. They give off a very family like feel, I don't feel like they look at us as dollar signs when we walk in. They know us by name, and are very knowledgeable about the jewelry. And their prices were great! We couldn't make it for Wedding Band Weekend, so they were able to accommodate us and give us the discounts a few weeks in advance. You have to go to Wedding Band Weekend! Geoff helped us and was great! He listened to what we were looking for, stayed within budget and made recommendations. My rings came in a few days earlier than expected. I also love the free engagement ring cleaning whenever I go in! Highly recommend!

My husband and I had issues with the engagement ring purchased at a separate jeweler.. We went to Longs to see if there was anything they could do to help with the engagement ring and it was one of the best decisions we had made. They were able to provide us with a similar engagement ring that was gorgeous for around the same price - and has proven to be much more durable than the first ring. We decided to buy our wedding bands there also, as their customer service was spectacular. They took care of us when we were put in such a horrid situation by a different jeweler, and we will only be purchasing our jewelry from Longs in the future. I would highly recommend this jeweler for any of your needs. They truly care about their customers!
My fiance did not purchase my engagement ring through Long's but we did pop in one day to get my ring cleaned. The staff there asked us about our wedding and told us about their annual wedding band event that we should check out. We shopped around a could weeks beforehand to get an idea of what I wanted and prices for both our bands so we'd know if we were getting a good deal or not.
The event was all weekend long and really well put together. It was crowded and I can see how it can be overwhelming - but we were able to work one-on-one with a lady who was SO patient! I went back and forth on what I was looking for and she finally helped me find the perfect band! My fiance also found his wedding band there which is unique and exactly what he was hoping to find.
The price reduction was also incredible! I can see why so many brides go to this event! The prices were so good that I ended up getting two bands for myself and one for my fiance.
The customer service was amazing and they are so helpful during the entire process. My fiance's ring ended up not fitting him (it was too small) so the girls really worked their magic to get the ring shipped and reordered just in time for the wedding.
I'm so happy with the level of service I received from Long's and I'll definitely be recommending to family and friends. And don't miss the wedding band event! It's a must go!
We really wanted matching bands, many places tried to talk us out of it (which was not going to happen) some even gave us a hard time. Everyone at Longs was great and worked with us to find bands that we both liked and that worked with my engagement ring.

What GREAT customer service. Everytime we went there i didn't want to leave. All the workers are so helpful. My husband purchased my Scott Kay engagement ring there and he had such a great appointment. He went to other jewelers and felt pressured. When we went to their "wedding band weekend" that we were told about which has all vendors and discounts there we picked my matching band and Scott Kays daughter actually helped my husband find the right band for him! ( i think i was more excited about that) We didn't know we needed to have 1/2 the amount that day to lock in the price and they were very understanding and let us put down what we had available. They treat you like family there! they also gave me a bottle of cleaner for free and fit me in for sizing the day i went there with out an appointment. Long's is the way to go!
We purchased both our wedding bands as well as my engagement ring at Long's in Burlington. Service from Valerie F. was above and beyond. My rings are gorgeous. Highly recommend this great quality jeweler for your wedding!!
We went to Long's Wedding Band weekend which was totally worth the trip. We got a pretty good deal and they were very helpful. My engagement ring is family jewelry and they were good about advising how to fit it, as I have very tiny fingers and the ring was a standard size.
My ring so spectacular and yet simple, that I don't think I'll ever stop getting compliments, nor will i every stop being mesmerized by it! This company is a real, quality, family jeweler. When we went in, they did not at any point make us feel uncomfortable or like they were trying to pressure us in any way. They even had me walk outside to see what the ring would look like in the natural light!!!!!! They can set any stone in any metal- and they have a wide range or sizes and price points- all of which are of impressive quality. I would highly recommend Longs to anyone.
My husband and I went to the Long's wedding band event in Burlington to get our wedding bands. When we got there we were told that our price point wouldn't be possible and that the band I was looking for wasn't something that I would want. We ended up working with 2 people, the first ended up leaving us and working with another couple and the second was a very nice woman that helped us try and stay within our budget. In the end, we stayed pretty close to our budget and we both got the rings that we had wanted. I would suggest to any future bride and groom to check out their wedding band events because you can get great deals on bands with the discount that they offer.
Great Service. Flexible and Friendly
I went to Long's Annual Wedding Band Event with my fiance after looking a couple other places for wedding bands. It was packed with people and we considered leaving but were fortunate to meet Lynette a few minutes into our visit and she was so helpful, patient, and knowlegeable that we decided to stick around and try to find our rings. I really don't think that my super-picky fiance would've ever found a ring if it wasn't for her help.
We were extremely happy with the service received at the Burlington Long's, which is ultimately why we decided to spend our money at this retailer for two high end engagement rings and wedding bands. The saleswoman was extremely helpful and attentive and gave us a lessons in diamonds 101.
Our wedding bands and my engagement ring are all from Long's in Peabody. The service we received was amazing! I ended up coming back a few times for diamond ears for the wedding as well.
I can't say that my husband and I spent a ton of time shopping around for ring stores. He proposed with a simple white gold band from Blue Nile and we went shopping together for engagement rings (and later wedding bands) at Long's. It was the only place that we went and, although we went back a couple times before we made purchases, we never went anywhere else. We worked with the Burlington store and had a wonderful experience overall. There were no hiccups, no glitches, no drama. Everything was great and we felt no need to look elsewhere. Everyone we worked with was was a professional - the store always did exactly what they told us they were going to do. Visits to Long's actually became one of the calming things that we did in wedding planning. We are extremely grateful for the service and would recommend them to anyone!
We purchased our wedding bands from Long's in Natick and worked with Paul. He was fantastic-- didn't try to upsell us, but provided us with lovely rings for a great price. No pressure sales were fantastic. I also have taken my engagement ring there several times to be cleaned, which they always do promptly! Such service!
We actually went to the Long's in Burlington and had Jennifer as a consultant. She helped us pick the perfect band for my husband. The jeweler there also created a custom band for me that matched my custom engagement ring perfectly.

While my husband did a great job picking out my engagement ring all by himself the wedding band show was where we had the most fun. It was a great event housing many different vendors and we were able to look at thousands of options. We both picked our rings the same day. Icing on the cake we won the raffle for a $1000 dollars off our purchase! Every-time we are nearby we have them clean our rings. All of the staff have been wonderful to work with over the phone and in person. Made our experience feel very personal.
My wife and I purchased our engagement rings and wedding bands through Longs, including 2 custom pieces, and when one did not turn out as we had envisioned, they were very flexible and gracious about working out a return and understanding what didn't work in order for us to pick another band that I absolutely love! It may be a bit more expensive here than some place, but feels worth it, enough so that we also purchased my wife's wedding necklace here just before the wedding when again, we found the perfect piece.
My husband had driven by Long's in Burlington on his way home from work and said he wanted to go there. He had no clue that Long's had such a history in the New England area. Bill was with us for over two hours. He listened to my husband and even let me try on some of their luxury items. It was so much fun. We will always remember our great experience at Long's.
Prices were great, quality is amazing! The sales people don't work on commission, so they acutally listened and found us the prefect pieces!

I love my ring! My husband shared with me the story of his experience at Long's. He speaks highly of Long's and their service. He claims to never have had better service and polite, knowledgeable salespeople. They took care of him and didn't take advantage of him. He enjoyed their service so much that he suggested them to his friends that were on the market for a ring - and they too loved thier service, and for thosethat didn't soon regretted and/or had horror stories at different stores.

The quality and beauty of our rings goes without saying but this review is to mostly credit Jodi from Longs in Braintree who was a wonderful help throughout our engagement. Every time I would go there she was nothing but helpful and kind. She always helped us get the best deal and went out of her way to clue us in on Long's Wedding Band Weekend. We got a great deal on or bands and I am very happy with their service.

We went to look at rings during their Wedding Band Weekend. The crowd was so large and not the ideal shopping situation. One sales rep was very helpful, keeping us away from the crowd and bringing the rings to us! Got a great deal on wedding bands. There was a mix up when picking up the rings because one of our rings was incorrect. It only took a day for them to find the correct ring. My husband's ring was not the correct size, but they re-sized and re-engraved it for him without a problem.

I had originally visited Long's after a terrible experience at another jewelry store. I went to Long's to purchase a very specific Breitling for husband (we hadn't gotten engaged yet). They had the watch and beat the price of the other store. A few months later (unknown to me) my now husband went in to purchase my engagement ring. It was special order as it is radiant square cut (shaped like a Princess cut but shines like a Round). The jeweler helped him select the setting and the stone. It was exactly the ring I wanted. We went to Long's for their yearly wedding band sale. We found my husband's ring which they special ordered no problem. We also found my ring- a 7 round stone, prong set band. After we picked up the rings, I didn't love my band anymore. The jeweler allowed me bring my ring back and select a new ring. He said he just wanted to make sure I was happy. I chose 7 stone, Princess cut, prong set. The only thing was, I needed to reset my engagement ring so that the band would sit flush with the engagement ring without a gap. Without hesitation, he said the could design a new band for my engagement ring to match the wedding band. Talk about service! We don't use any other jeweler now- Long's in Burlington is our go to!
My DH got the engagement ring here and said they were great, so we went back for our wedding bands. Every time we went in to buy, size, adjust, etc, they offered to clean my engagement ring. And the week before the wedding they did a SUPER cleaning of my ring so it would shine on the wedding day :) Very nice, very easy to work with, and great quality!
I LOVE Long's! I am probably the most indecisive person you will ever meet! When my fiance proposed to me with a diamond and I had to choose the setting, I was so overwhelmed! The people who work at Long's were so patient with us! I was there for probable 4 hours deciding on both my band and my engagement ring. They even gave us a little discount even though we went after the wedding band weekend. Their inventory is beautiful! They are able to customize anything you want!
My husband and I got our wedding bands from Long's jewelers. It was a really easy going and fun experience. The woman who helped us was patient and had no problem with us trying on dozens of rings before we found the right one. It took about 2 weeks to get the bands sized and engraved - just in time for our wedding! Would definitely go back for future purchases!

Barbara at Long's Jewelers in Peabody was really great. My engagement ring has a square base under the diamond, which is a really hard shape to accommodate. She showed me so many options, and was so patient with my difficult search. My husband also found his wedding band here at one of their sales!

I find the sales people to be extremely pushy at Longs - but the service people at the desk have always been very polite and helpful. We bought our wedding bands here because it was the only place we could find the "Memoire" design which fit nicely against my marquise engagement ring. Make sure you get the discount (I think in March) with the big wedding band event.
