100% recommend this venue to anyone who is looking for a smaller venue. We got married in March and it was amazing. We had roughly 145 people in the pavilion and it turned out great and we were all comfortable. The staff was so helpful too
We got married at the Lydia Pavillion in August of 2023. The views from the ceremony location were amazing. The cabins were so cozy and the pavilion was exactly the woodsy feeling we were going for. We added the get-ready room in the lodge, golf carts, and extra chairs from the venue which were all affordable and easy. The Lydia Pavillion is a very DIY venue. We had full control over vendors and decor. There were very few if any constraints imposed by the venue staff. We enlisted a lot of our family to help out and I would highly recommend hiring a caterer who can set up/clean up the reception to make things manageable. The pricing was affordable and overall our experience exceeded our expectations. There was something so nice about having a beautiful ceremony and hanging out around a bonfire after.
If your son or daughter is getting married here, please review:
1) The food. Pulled pork and string beans for wedding entrees?
2) Appetizers. 150 guests and 120 appetizers? Food will run out in 10 minutes. That's a cocktail hour?
3) Guests go into the kitchen for their food?
4) Desert is served with entrees?
5) Staff - make sure there are more than 3........LOL
We got married at Lydia Pavilion on Oct 9. If you get married here you NEED a day of coordinator. Hire Marie Fernandez https://www.heartandsoulweddings.com
Pros
-BEAUTIFUL CEREMONY OVERLOOK
-the owners are very chill and give you a lot of freedom and flexibility
-surrounding cabins are beautiful!
-very budget friendly
-hire the Lydia shuttle for guests staying on the mountain because a regular shuttle will get lost.
-decent communication. Email Tiffany for best results, calling their number never got me anywhere
-We hired people from Lydia Mountain to help us set up and they were very helpful
-If you are up for a very DIY wedding this is the venue for you but be prepared to book the day before to set up (we did and used the space for our rehearsal dinner as well) Also come with an army of people to help you.
Cons
-very buggy even after my brother in law professionally sprayed the area the day before
-roads are very bumpy and make traveling to all the cabins somewhat difficult.
-they are very hands off but I personally saw that as kind of a pro because you have lots of freedom.
We had a great wedding weekend at Lydia Mountain. Our wedding celebration was at the Pavilion and our ceremony was at the overlook (best view!!!) The cabins were comfortable and the space was exactly what we were looking for. I recommend booking all the numbered cabins if you book that venue location so that your guests are close by (as is the lodge). Lydia Mountain is a completely DIY wedding venue, so you have to be ready to do all the set-up and clean-up yourself. We had a village of loved ones help us, so it worked out great, but keep this in mind!
My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because the communication from staff is limited and frustrating. It would take multiple emails to get a single question answered and it was like pulling teeth to get updated confirmations, etc.
With that said, I had to postpone my wedding twice due to COVID-19 and Lydia Mountain was very accommodating during this time and efficiently helped move the venue and cabin reservations. Much appreciated!
Overall, if you're a couple who is up for a rustic, DIY wedding -- I would recommend Lydia Mountain.
The location, view, and price were all great! We loved every bit of our day at the pavilion on the mountain. However, the communication is limited and it can be very frustrating not having responses when you’re only a few weeks from the big day
PERFECT and the staff goes above and beyond! Had our wedding in the fall and it couldn’t have been any more beautiful!!! This Venue is amazing and stress free with everything that it includes! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
We wanted to find a unique wedding venue that felt like us and we loved the feeling of Lydia. They have a smaller venue known as the Lily Pad and we made a trip out to visit it and it felt right so we booked it.
Throughout the process, Tina was easy to reach and she helped answer all of my questions. We reserved the cottage and barn for the weekend and headed out to check in on Thursday for our wedding weekend and big day on Saturday. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans for us. Tina had to call me Friday morning to tell me that the local counties were shutting down, the flood was most likely going to shut down the road to the Lily Pad and we needed to urgently make a decision. If you can imagine how I felt at that moment, total chaos and panic, and just speechless. But Tina reassured me they would assist, and that they did. She sent me a staff to pack me back up at the Lily Pad, drove over herself to offer help and a hug, and was there for me as we relocated my entire wedding up the mountain to the gorgeous Pavillion site. My fiance and I had already seen the Pavilion and we loved it, but of course we were a little sad that things weren't going as planned.
In the end, Tina helped get us exactly what we needed to make sure that come Saturday we were ready to go and had the wedding of our dreams. In the midst of purse panic, she made my wedding day dreams play out.
We're planning our first visit back for when the beautiful new Lodge opens. If you're a bride searching for a gorgeous venue, consider the Lodge as I've seen the sneak peeks and it is fabulous.
Thanks for all your help, Tina! We have the story of a lifetime and still had the perfect day thanks to you and your staff.
I absolutely loved getting married at Lydia Mountain! The view was incredible and we had so many choices of where to get married. They also have cabins for our guests to stay, but hotels were not too far either. So many of our guests rented cabins with their families and made a whole vacation out of our wedding. Lydia also had a lot of add ons that we too advantage of like extra bathrooms and a shuttle! I loved the flexibility to make our wedding anything we wanted. It was amazing and we had a wedding we will never forget!
We rented the Pavillion for an October weekend wedding and it was so perfect. The hillside is amazing, and was beautiful!
We loved having free reign of the place, and could use whatever vendors we wanted. There were several places on site for pictures that turned out awesome!
I will say that about a month after I paid my deposit, I had concerns if we made the right choice because of the communication and mistakes that were made when people were booking their cabins. Double booking cabins, wrong cabins booked, wrong cards being charged etc. There are 3 wedding site they support near by... the Pavillion, Barn, and Chapel...so the cabins go quick!!
A couple other random things worth noting... There were a couple of dogs that are collared and roam on the property, that were very nice, but got really annoying after the first 5 minutes.
Our party rented 18 cabins, and I didn't hear any complaints about them other than having to take the trash to a dumpster and how far and remote some of them were. That wasn't overly clear on the website or when you're reserving it.
Overall, it was the wedding of our dreams because of the remote location with amazing views in the woods... I just wish they had better systems and communication with us and our guests.
Great venue with caveats::: The venue was perfect for our rustic mountain wedding, even on a cooler, rainy, September day. We didn't get to use the overlook which provides a GORGEOUS view of the mountains but our wedding fit comfortably in the pavilion. Highlights- great for do it yourself, free running, on a tight budget couples. They also have cabins walking distance to the ceremony site and reception site. Downsides- if you want ANY help prior to your wedding, forget it. Getting emails back with helpful responses is like pulling teeth. They DO NOT ADVERTISE a pet fee in the cabins. The cabins are a little pricey. So when I say hands off... I mean it to the extreme. But at least our wedding LOOKED beautiful and we were able to have the vendors we wanted.
We got married at Lydia on April 22nd of this year. It was a great experience! The view was stunning (even on a chilly and rainy day), and the space was the perfect size for our rustic wedding for 110 guests. The price is very good, and we personally appreciated the venue's more hands-off approach (no required vendors, hidden fees, or restrictive rules). That said, if you want to get a lot of service from your venue, this might not be the place (though that is what drives the cost up at other places). The barn's natural beauty made dressing it up simple, and our guests said they really enjoyed the area. We were very pleased with our experience!
We recently had our wedding here. Tina and all of the staff were incredibly helpful both before the wedding, and the day of. It's also much more reasonably priced than comparable venues, and you really can't beat the view. Two potential downsides are that the road can be a bit rough to get up if you aren't used to driving on dirt roads, and that most decorations have to be provided by you, but these weren't issues for us. The main reason they lose a star on the review is that there are 4 dogs who are loose on the property, who crashed our wedding reception, and spent the night begging for food from our guests. It was a bit frustrating having to wrangle them throughout the night, and the staff were unresponsive to phone calls about them.Fortunately most of our guests didn't mind, but for those who may have a fear of dogs, it could be an issue (even though the dogs were generally friendly).
We also stayed in one of the cabins, and didn't have any issues (other than the stink bugs, but those are pretty much par for the course in the mountains).
My daughter was married here July 2 , 2016.
Lydia's pavilion was a perfect place for our rehearsal dinner of 100 people. Beautiful and rustic with mason jars hanging from the ceiling. The outside bonfire was perfect and a small stage for music.
The wedding ceremony took place on the overlook and it was so incredibly gorgeous overlooking the mountains! (we booked the pavilion as well in case of rain)
The wedding reception followed in Lydia's barn on Dyke Road and it was so beautiful! we had 180 guests and a full band. The barn is clean and has a full kitchen. Lydia Mountain cabins were great for all our guests to stay in. (Keep in mind some of the cabins are difficult to get to up windy roads)
I can't say enough about the team at Lydia that took care of all our needs and questions. Tina and Janice answered emails and phone calls for months. Arnold went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed ! This is a beautiful affordable venue for a rustic wedding. Don't hesitate to book your special day here and enjoy the beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains!
