Chuck with Main St. Bakery made the cake for our wedding. The cake was delicious, but unfortunately was not made to how we had specified on the worksheet he had us fill out at our cake tasting. The cake was meant to be two tiers with spice cake with cinnamon icing on the top, smaller tier, and a marble cake with plain buttercream icing on the bottom. The cake we received the day of was flipped with spice cake on the bottom and marble cake on top with only cinnamon icing throughout. The cake was also very crumbly. When the caterer tried serving it, the cake slices looked as if someone had already picked through it. If you choose to have your cake made here I’d recommend confirming the order prior to the day of the event.
Chuck and his team were incredible! the food was incredible! all of our guests kept telling us how much they enjoyed the food at cocktail hour and the dinner. We did a buffet style dinner amd I was so grateful that he looked out for us and set up plates just for us to eat at dinner, which so many couples don't get a chance to do by conversing with guests. Highly suggest for anyone getting married in the Luray area!
This was one of the most hard working groups of people I have every worked with. It was clear that everyone employed there, from Chef Chuck, to Natane, to the servers, everyone was going to do their best to make sure this was the best wedding day ever. They were efficient, charming, attentive, and organized. I am happy I hired them for our wedding and would recommend them to anyone else getting married.
We got married on 9/14/19 and had the pleasure of enjoying Mainstreet Catering & Bakery as our caterer. I cannot say enough good things about them! Chef Chuck, Mandie, and Natane were always quick to respond to questions and adjust our proposal as needed. Throughout the preparation process, they proved they were willing to go the extra mile and do whatever it took to ensure our wedding day would go off without a hitch. Their staff did an amazing job setting up, serving, and bartending our wedding. And, most importantly, their food is AMAZING!!! So much so that we went and did two food tastings before the wedding haha. So many of our guests are STILL coming up to us and saying how good the food was. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
Chef Chuck, Mandy and Jimmy are hands down the best! They’re so easy and accommodating and definitely focus on the couple. We felt very welcomed since we walked in till we closed the deal. The food is spectacular and their advice invaluable. Chef too the time to answer every question and make a menu special just for us ! We cannot wait to have them be a big part of our day!
Delicious cupcakes & a beautiful, simple cutting cake! It was just what we wanted! Loved all the flavor combinations that were offered. Such nice people to work with!
We had the Flourless Chocolate Torte, the Pumpkin Pie, and the Maple Chocolate Pecan Pie from Main Street Catering at our Fall wedding. The pies were amazing. The line was longest for the Chocolate Torte, though in my opinion the Maple Chocolate Pecan Pie was to die for and folks also mentioned that the Pumpkin was very good.
We made an appointment for a tasting in April and everyone was professional and accommodating. Our order went smoothly with good communication through the entire process. We thought the value was great for the excellent quality pies. We definitely recommend Main Street Caterinf and Bakery for Pies!
Pretty great overall. The food was very delicious. The staff was courteous, timely, and professional. They did take the leftovers away after we requested to keep them, which is the only reason we’re giving 4 instead of 5 stars.
Overall, the quality of the Main Street's food was very good. We really enjoyed the hot appetizers, like the mac n cheese and pulled pork sliders. They also did great meat/veggie chilis for our welcome dinner. The pies were also top notch. The chicken tagine was a little dry, so overall I would give the food a 4-star review.
I've bumped it down to 3 stars because of the customer service. There was significant turnover during the year I worked with them, and no one kept any records, so I had to reexplain things repeatedly to new employees, and a few of my priorities got lost in the shuffle. For example, we really didn't want there to be a long line at the bar during cocktail hour. While one employee assured me she'd make sure two people were there serving drinks, that message got lost when she left, and we ended up with one server and a super long line. As another example, we took the time to make the bartender a list of all the alcohol we had purchased so he could keep track. At the end of the evening, we found both cases of champagne in the refrigerator, unopened, because he never offered it to anyone. On top of this, there were several other pretty basic catering tasks that only happened because I reminded someone, like lighting candles and bringing beer steins.
So, in summary, the food was pretty good, but this is not going to be a vendor where your experience is easy or smooth sailing.
We loved working with Main Street Bakery and Catering leading up to our wedding! The tone was set when we went to our tasting and they served us enough food that we each had a take-home box. The food was absolutely delicious. Chuck helped us along the way and let us know what vegetables were in season and gave us some options to think about that we wouldn't normally have thought of, for example: the Asian noodle salad that we wound up serving at the wedding. It's been a little over a year since my husband and I got married and whenever we reminisce about our wedding and think about the food, we always crave the food that was served that day! Danielle was extremely helpful with emails throughout the process and the logistical planning of everything. The only problem that occurred is we ran out of chicken for the last few tables (but still had another meat option for them). MSBC also gave us the option to serve vegetarian meals to anyone who was vegetarian, which I think went above and beyond. The meals were successfully given to these guests and they were thankful for this added touch. Another relief is MSBC provided the bartenders for the reception. It was one less vendor to have to coordinate with and very nice to have Chuck provide this for us. We would definitely recommend them to others looking for a caterer for their event!
The food was good but not amazing like I expected. I worried that there wouldn't be enough food as we did heavy apps. They reassured me that we had more than enough. Other than soup, we ran out of everything. The fried pickle spears (which I was SO excited for) turned out to be pieces of dill pickles.
The Gouda Mac and cheese was really good.
The staff was all very nice, extremely sweet! There was even a seemingly flawless change of management during our planning.
I love the small town, local vibe and this catering company is good, nothing fancy. . I think maybe they had a lot of other events going on around the time of our wedding. Overall, a good experience.
Any good Hogwarts feast needs tasty, rich, fall, cozy food. Our wedding meal was the brainchild of Chef Chuck at Main Street Bakery and Catering (MSBC) in downtown Luray, VA. I supplied MSBC with a list of ideas prior to the tasting to narrow down what we were after.
Understatement: I supplied them with a detailed multi-page explanation of how we envisioned the food pairing with the rest of the evening, the names of all attending the tasting, that the theme should feel Hogwartsian, etc. (I have attached the first page of this document, so that you can understand how focused brides get this done!) Danielle Painter said it was the most detailed explanation they had ever received. Heck yeah.
Danielle worked with me over the coming weeks to help me tweek servings, pricing, and deal with the needs of many guests. She was a gem who understood we were pulling off an event, and that it was never finalized until it was served. Working with them was easy and fluid, we all were in this together, and we could make changes and ask questions up until the near end.
The staff were hilarious and friendly, yet extremely professional. Chuck was exceptionally thoughtful in listening to what we thought we wanted, and helping us learn how pairings work, what we should aim for, and help shape our ideas so that they still retained our original ideas.
Finally, their prices were GREAT. Seriously. This is a major part of why we looked to hold our wedding someplace like Luray instead of DC.
Our chicken dish was very dry and lacked flavor and our roasted potatoes were under cooked. Our "pork carneadas" appetizer was in a tostitos scoop. We were under the impression it would be wrapped in a tortilla. In the end it ended up being way more expensive than expected. Over-all I was disappointed and it was not worth the money.
So great to work with! Danielle was so helpful from the moment we tasted with them to the day of! She was so on top with reminders and helped us fit everything we wanted into our budget. As for the food - so tasty!! We had them bake an assortment of baked goods for our dessert table too and they were just as yummy. We MSB bake the favorite desserts of each member of our immediate family so that in the end we had a table full of our families favorite desserts!
Thank you MSB for all your wonderful help and tasty food :)
WOW! How often do you hear people raving about the wedding dinner? We did all night! Dinner at the wedding was even better than we remembered at the tasting. All of the staff is so kind and thoughtful as well. I would encourage everyone to work with them!
I can't say enough good things about this business! My only regret is not using them for all of my wedding catering. They did our rehearsal dinner, dessert, and breakfast the morning after. Everyone was so impressed with it all. The food is fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. Danielle was also super proactive in communicating with us and making sure things went smoothly/ everything was exactly as we wanted. Couldn't be happier!
I cannot praise Main Street Bakery, Chef Chuck, and the staff enough for the amazing food at our wedding and the wonderful service they provided to us throughout our wedding planning. Do not look any further for your wedding caterer because they do it all! Chef Chuck even came up with some original recipes for certain menu items my husband and I really wanted. He tried multiple recipes to perfect his, never offered before, fried pickles and dipping sauce for our cocktail hour. This is above and beyond what I would expect any caterer to do. They will work with you to all of your wedding food visions come true! Our guests are still raving about how delicious the food at our wedding was including appetizers, dinner, and mini cheesecakes for dessert (my favorite)! The snobbiest of the snobbiest food critics attended our wedding and I spotted them going up for their seconds shortly after sitting down with their first extremely full plate of food!
To make it easy for all those future brides out there, I’m going to provide the must haves for your wedding from Main Street Bakery!
- Appetizers: mini cornbread bites with pimento cheese, fried pickles with spicy dipping sauce
- Dinner: Short Ribs (you have to get this as a meat selection), Gouda mac n cheese, bacon collard greens, and the honey glazed carrots are delicious and add beautiful color to the menu.
- Dessert: You can’t go wrong with any of the desserts! I did an assortment of mini cheesecakes which were amazing.
You will not be disappointed choosing Main Street Bakery for your special event. They are professional, personable, accommodating, very reasonably priced, and great people that truly care about making your wedding a special day.
Main Street Bakery made my wedding truly memorable. They catered the reception dinner and dessert, as well as brunch the next day, and my family is still talking about how wonderful that food was. We had a sort of rustic/country wedding at Khimaira Farm, and we wanted the food to match the theme. We had the most delicious pulled pork BBQ, gouda mac and cheese, black bean tagine, and potato salad, with crab cakes and pesto stuffed mushrooms as appetizers. I highly recommend the crab cakes! For dessert, we had an assortment of pies and cupcakes. I still dream about that mixed berry pie. They also provided lemonade, iced tea, salad and rolls.
Brunch the next day was absolutely wonderful, and Chuck and his crew made everything seamless and easy. We were staying at the River Bend Ranch, which Chuck knew very well, and he was able to set everything up in the kitchen there. Biscuits with white pepper gravy, assorted pastries and spinach and mushroom quiche. Everything wa delicious, and all of our guests really enjoyed the meal.
For any future events like family reunions or anniversaries, I'll definitely be going back to Main Street!
We had a great time working with Chef Arnaud and the rest of his staff. We wanted something unique to our tastes. Chef ended up picking a delicious Moroccan chicken dish, salmon cakes with dill sauce, delicious veggies, and cumin chickpea salad. We had a handful of vegetarians, and he quickly came up with a delicious solution. Everyone at our wedding loved the food. It was delicious. We also couldn't have been happier with the desserts we chose. We had a variety of pies made by Main Street; and pastry chef, Amy Chan, made some amazing macaroons that were loved by all. They also helped us out with bartenders - though the bartenders were not super experienced and poured some pretty stiff drinks. We also got our napkins from them, and that worked out really well.
Unbelievable! Main Street is the only way to go! The food is mouth watering good! Service is head and shoulders above the rest. They are real professionals. They know what you need before you do. The bartender actually ran out to give me a tissue before I went down the aisle. They treated us like a King and Queen.
We also had Main Street do our cupcakes. Everyone loved them!!
