We had a somewhat culturally blended wedding (American and Korean) with a variety of different dietary needs (no red meat, no nuts, vegetarian options, etc.). Not only did the staff make a variety of different foods, they even managed to make some Korean food too! Everyone left the reception stuffed and happy!
Choose Maison Culinaire if you want the food and service at your event to be outstanding! They know how to make an event memorable! Sus came highly recommended by a friend who has Maison Culinaire cater her many parties, which are reliably fabulous. The food is wonderful (don’t miss their Beef Wellington, and the sweet potato puree, to name just two incredible dishes). The staff are energetic, cheerful, and very attentive. Sus was responsive to our frequent emails during our months of wedding planning. Sus was extremely helpful at our walk-through. She was at our event from setup to break-down, assuring things went smoothly. Our specific requests were carried out well, including several specialty cocktails. Our guests loved everything, especially the indulgent dessert variety and the scrumptious late-night snacks. We are so glad Maison Culinaire made our wedding guests so happy and impressed!
We hired Maison Culinaire (Sus) to cater our October 2018 wedding. We did lots of research and saw she had wonderful reviews. In the beginning of planning, we were excited to work with her and felt that she understood our vision for our wedding. She had responded quickly to emails and calls during our first few planning conversations (about 8-9 months before the wedding).
Leading up to our wedding, we had several questions (as is to be expected), and we often didn’t get a response from her by either phone or email. Typically we had to call or email her 3-4 times before getting a response, and sometimes weeks would pass before we heard back. We understand that she’s busy with her business, but going weeks without responding was concerning. We were hoping to have a walk-through with her at our venue (which she had mentioned early on), but when we asked for one she didn’t respond until it was too late. When we finally heard back from her, she told us she "knew the venue" and a walk-through was not necessary.
In the final week prior to the wedding, she finally became responsive to many of our questions about the food, linens, timing, and venue layout/logistics. We became concerned that were discussing important details (that should've been discussed weeks before) in the final week leading up to our wedding. The day before the wedding, she had a question for us about equipment at the venue (which would've been covered if we had a walk-through).
On the day of our wedding, there were many mistakes made by Sus and her staff, including: colors of linens & napkins (that were not what we had discussed), items on our buffet were not labeled (GF for gluten free and ingredients for allergies) as we had been told they would be, a number of items ran out quickly and were not replenished for a while (or at all, because they ran out), not enough serving utensils for all dishes on the buffet and people ended up mixing serving utensils (meat mixing with vegetarian), and some of the beverages we had requested (and were mentioned in our contract) were not supplied the day of. We (the bride and groom) had to take time during our wedding to try to resolve some of these issues.
We had a day-of coordinator that Sus knew about before. After our wedding, our coordinator told us about many of these mishaps (some we were not aware of during the event). Our coordinator (who has been in the business for many years) broke it to us how unprofessional and with poor attitude Sus and the catering staff was towards her and the venue staff.
Near the end of our event, Sus left and told us we were in "good hands" with her staff. We had been told (prior to the event) they needed an hour for breakdown of the equipment after our event, but they ended up needing longer, and we got charged by the venue for the extra time. We were told that shortly before our initial rental time was up, a number of her staff said they were "on a break" despite time running out before we had to be out.
Even with all of these mishaps and frustrations, we are able to put them aside and look at the bright side. The food was delicious, many of our guests raved about the taste of the food, and the cake was delicious and was exactly what we had asked for.
OUR RECOMMENDATION: If you hire Sus and Maison Culinaire, get everything in writing (contract or email). Be aware that you may not hear back from her for weeks at a time.
If you want your wedding day to be super special, you should hire Sus at Maison Culinaire to cater it. She is very professional and detail oriented. Sus responds quickly to email and phone calls and is very attentive to your requests but also has great suggestions. We were getting married in three weeks and didn't have a catering company. God brought her into our path one day when we went to see the venue where we were having our reception. Not only that she catered our reception with delicious food of our choice, but also her staff put up and took down all of our decorations. Sus even had one of her staff members drive all the way from VA to MD just to get a piece of decoration for the cake. By the way, she made the most beautiful and delicious cake and everyone complimented it. As she requested, we sent her a picture of a wedding cake that we liked and she perfectly reproduced it. To our delight, she even added some fresh flowers, which made it look even more beautiful. Sue also took care of the flower centerpieces for us. Also, she had her staff move benches away from a gazebo so that we could take pictures there. Everything was beyond our expectations. It really helped having a captain, (her name was Laura) to keep things on schedule. Maison Culinaire made us our day worry free and we were overjoyed with the way everything turned out. We truly can't thank her and her staff enough for all of their hard work!
Sus and her team were great! They provided Italian cookies and pastries and a small cake for my wedding. Everything tasted incredible! Sus was so sweet and helpful and her team was more than accommodating of my late reception. Katie came and set up, served everything, and cleaned up without me even noticing! It was seamless. Everything was delicious! Definitely recommend!
