Rushed through make up and left early
Sarah is amazing! She worked 3, 5 hour days getting my hair and makeup ready for a short film and huge event. She was extremely professional, personable, encouraging, and kind, and my hair and makeup always looked amazing each time she did it! She continued to touch up my hair and makeup whenever I asked her to and made me feel beautiful. I never had any issues with her being late or unprofessional, even though hair and makeup had to be done on a tight schedule for filming. Sarah is such a sweet person and I absolutely would book an appointment with her again for my next event!
Many of my friends have had horror stories about cancelations days prior to their events or weddings. So sad. Also check how often her friends have sent positive Google reviews. She will delete most of the ones that give her a low rating.
LOVE Sarah! She made me feel so beautiful and her caring soul made me feel so at ease! She was on time and stayed longer than she had to just to make sure everything went smoothly for me and my girls. I couldn’t have picked a better MUA. She is literally the sweetest! Her work is amazing and she’s very professional. I recommend her to every bride I know, even those I don’t know! 💕 SOGA brides you won’t regret!
Sarah Black was the scheduled makeup artist for my brother’s wedding on May 4, 2024. I was scheduled to get makeup at 12. Thankfully I woke up early that morning and was ready 3 hours early because I received a call that Sarah was running early. Two hours early…. I have worked for a high end salon in Atlanta for 10 years. I have scheduled many wedding appointments over that time. 30 minutes is the minimum amount of time a makeup artist can complete a look.
I walked in to find her ready to apply my makeup rushing me through hellos with the bride. The first red flag was the dirty makeup brushes and sponges. Once she started applying the makeup I had a chance to look around at her “professional” kit, made up of Wet n’ Wild and Milani. I have never in the 10+ years in the industry ever seen this amount of drugstore brands.
She finished applying my lipgloss (with the actual applicator… unsanitary) and only 10 minutes had passed since she started. I was horrified when I looked in the mirror and saw black mascara on my eyebrows and looking nothing like the pictures I showed her at the beginning. She did no preparation of the skin and no setting spray (any of the usual treatments done to ensure lasting results).
I spent the next 30 minutes attempting to fix the mess she made on my face. I wish I would have washed it then and completely done my makeup myself instead to avoid the zits that happened after due to the bacteria built up on her tool and product.
The worst part was the chaos that she caused my sister-in-law on her wedding day. This behavior is rude and completely unprofessional. I’m judging by the work and sanitation that this person is not a licensed professional. Please save yourself the stress (and skin irritation) and do not book Sarah Black for any event.
I normally don’t leave reviews and I went back and forth about writing one even though my now husband told me I should the day it happened, however seeing that this has happened before, multiple times, I feel like more brides need to be aware before they book Sarah Black for their bridal make up.
I booked Sarah back in January 2023 for my wedding date of April 6, 2024. I confirmed with her in February and my coordinator confirmed with her two weeks before and got an estimated time of arrival. The Tuesday afternoon before my wedding she sent a text saying she made a horrible scheduling mistake and would not be able to do my makeup, but one of her colleagues will be there to take her place. I found it hard to believe someone booked before me since I booked so far in advance and upon looking after the fact they couldn’t have booked before I did in January 2023 since they didn’t get engaged until April 2023.
So even if you book over a year in advance she will cancel on you to do someone else’s make up that did not book as advance as you if she feels like it. I wish I booked someone else so I didn’t have the added stress that Sarah gave me on my wedding week.
And the fact that she now has her friends and family posting 5 star reviews for her instead of taking accountability for the mistakes she has made with her actual clients speaks volumes.
I am extremely upset, dissatisfied, and disappointed in the service and level of professionalism I have received from Sarah, especially given she was one of the top recommended make up artists in South Georgia for a wedding.
I secured my wedding date of May 4, 2024 with her by sending a deposit on June 25, 2023, a full 10 months before my wedding day and she never mentioned I would be sharing her with another bride on my day. She gave 0 notice that she had another bride to get to in a town that was an hour away from us, and also lied to me and my wedding planner about why she was rushing us day-of. She told us she had somewhere to be later that evening which was not the case. My wedding planner sent Sarah the makeup schedule over a week prior to the event which had Sarah setting up at 7:30am, first girl in the chair at 8am, last girl being finished at 1:30pm and then 30mins of touchups so she would be leaving at 2pm, which did not happen. Sarah left at 11am which was 3 hours early.
She also called me 5 times around 7am on my wedding day to rush me to get to our getting ready place so we could fit around her schedule. My wedding planner worked hard to create a schedule (that was approved by all vendors a week before) for all vendors to follow and since Sarah committed to me 10 months prior she should have respected that timeline and respected me on my wedding day, which she did not.
Sarah created a very rushed and stressful wedding morning for me, my bridesmaids, my mother, and my mother-in-law. My maid of honor and best friend since 3rd grade couldn’t even open her gift I gave her and read her letter I wrote for her because Sarah was rushing her to get in the chair as she was first on the schedule.
I am still in utter shock that Sarah called me 5 times between 6:54am and 7:07am (over an hour before we were supposed to start) on my wedding day telling me she had to leave early, it was unprofessional and disrespectful.
She did not take any photos or videos of me or my bridesmaids to post on her Instagram page like she does with every bride/bridal group but she did post 3 times about the other bride she rushed to leave me for. She rushed to get through everyone’s make up, taking about 10 mins per girl (we had 30 mins per girl assigned on the schedule) and some of them were not satisfied with her work. She also did not spray us with setting spray after mentioning multiple times to multiple different people that morning that she would before she left.
I want to reiterate how upset, dissatisfied, and disappointed I am in her work and service and I do not feel the compensation me and my girls gave her matched the quality of service we received.
When I reached out to Sarah to share my frustrations with her she did not give any explanation, did not take accountability for any of her actions, and did not offer or ask how she can make it right. All she said was she was sorry that we were upset and disappointed and she mentioned that was not her intentions. I, my wedding planner, and a few others who were closely involved that day, do not feel like that was an appropriate, empathetic or professional response. We were shocked that she did not offer to do anything to make it right or take accountability for her actions. Overall, I am extremely unsatisfied with Sarah Black.
Sarah was/is my beautiful lady knight in shining armor. My makeup artist canceled on me 3 months before the wedding. I was in a full-blown panic! A friend found Sarah and she had just canceled a family trip and was available. She was literally the ONLY person left in Tallahassee. Upon meeting Sarah my nerves were calmed, she is as kind as she is funny. She is super talented and quick with her brushes. I had so much fun with her on my trial I forgot to tell her what I did not like. I reached out to her to let her know my thoughts and she was so gracious. We scheduled another trial and it was perfect that time. Sarah wants very badly to do her best for you the bride. All my bridesmaids loved her and got along with her so well. Only negative, When we booked she told me she would stay as long as I wanted for touch-ups since I had my heart set on the airbrush, and she did not offer the service. Day of she told me she made plans and would be leaving after the makeup was finished. I was too stressed to really handle it but you could tell she felt bad and must have forgotten what she told me. She offered to leave makeup etc to make it right but in the end, it was ok. My makeup made it through to the end and I looked great. I would hire Sarah Black in the future and absolutely adore her.
LOVED working with Sarah! She was very easy to communicate with and one of the best priced MUA in the South Georgia/North Florida area! She travels to you which is amazing and offers trials to help nail down your look before the big day! She was quick and efficient but nothing felt rushed either. Great personality, very professional, I could go on forever! Would work with her again, hands down!
