We were interested in Mashita because of their yummy food variety and being able to accommodate for different dietary restrictions. For our wedding, we wanted guests who were vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free to be able to enjoy the wedding food and be happily full after! We expressed this to Mashita and were able to curate a menu from their dishes/catering packages (and also easily make minor ingredient changes) to accommodate for those with dietary restrictions/allergens.
Since Mashita wasn’t on our venue’s original approved list of caterers, Spencer traveled from Harrisonburg to Afton to meet with our venue coordinator and do a walkthrough of the space/kitchen. In addition to food catering, they also provided other great services like non-alcoholic beverages (water & housemade tea/lemonade) and bussing.
We’re so happy with our choice, and our guests were raving about the steamed bun table and passed appetizers during cocktail hour and the dinner buffet we had with sweet chili-soy braised tofu, boneless pork ribs with BBQ sauce, miso butter braised bok choy, caramelized kimchi mac & cheese, and japchae! Since they’re also a restaurant, we definitely plan on visiting Mashita in Harrisonburg for anniversaries to come.

commodate including a vegetarian bride. With this in mind, we wanted to make sure that whatever caterer we went with would be able to meet these dietary requirements while serving delicious food.
Mashita was our top choice from the moment we did our tasting. Not only was the food delicious but Mikey, the owner, came out to speak with us personally. He was incredibly personable and very upfront with what he and his staff would be able to provide, from serving wear to cocktails. When it came to the tasting, everything was delicious and the sauces were top notch. We were especially impressed with the tasty, varied, and filling vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. We decided to go with a large cheese board, phyllo bundles, and veggie dumplings for appetizers and the soy-braised chicken thighs, japchae with tofu, steamed white rice, garlic herb potatoes, and a mixed green salad for dinner. We also got their tofu bao buns for a late night snack which ended up being a huge hit!
Post-booking with the caterers went fairly smoothly. They primarily worked with our wedding planner to iron out the main details and only came to us when they needed clarification. I will say that some details came up that weren’t accounted for in our initial quote. On the day of the wedding, they were efficient and lovely to work with, serving appetizers, drinks, dinner, and dessert to our guests. The food ended up being as delicious as it was during our first tasting with them and we got numerous compliments from our guests. Mashita was great to work with and we look forward to visiting their restaurant again soon.

). After we had our welcome dinner tasting meal, we realized that we wanted them to cater our wedding too. Spencer, the catering manager, and Chef Mikey were absolutely incredible throughout the whole process. They adjusted easily as we needed them to - adding items to our menu up until 2 weeks prior to our wedding weekend. We had our welcome dinner on the patio at Mashita, and it was a beautiful atmosphere to begin the celebrations. Our guests repeatedly said that the food was amazing. Even as complications arose, they made sure that everything still ran smoothly for both of our events. We are so grateful to Spencer, Chef Mikey, and the rest of the Mashita team!

r $300 for two hours, and our guests purchased well over $1,000 in food and beverages. However, the server neglected to tell us that they charged us over $200 gratuity, so my husband added $275 gratuity to the credit card receipt when he signed it. When we got home and realized what happened, we called and explained the situation to the owner, and asked if he could give us a gift receipt for some of that duplicate charge (not even asking him to return the money to us). Mikey then emailed my son (on his honeymoon!) to threaten that we better just let them keep the nearly $500 gratuity or he would charge us an additional $500 because we were there an extra half an hour. During that last half hour, the room was open and other people came in and were served.
So, consider yourself warned: they will lie and cheat you out of your money, and then threaten you if you dare to ask for their cooperation to work out a compromise. The lack of business acumen and customer service is astounding. One star - do not recommend.
