My husband and I knew exactly where we wanted to get married well before we were even engaged. So the first step in our wedding planning involved booking a date with our venue — a unique luxury boutique resort in the Hudson Valley. We knew we would need a great wedding planner for the type of event we had in mind, but didn’t know where to start. Given that we loved every little detail about our venue, Glenmere, especially the design of the property, we decided to ask their event planner for recommendations, and Matthew Robbins was at the top of their very short list. After speaking with Matthew, we knew we didn’t need to look any further. Matthew was so easy to talk to over the phone (and even more wonderful when we later met him in person), and clearly a master of his craft — both the design and the planning elements. Our wedding weekend was perfect. The design Matthew’s team executed was stunningly beautiful — exactly what we wanted and more. We know the weekend was not stress-free for Matthew and Luis. Among other things, they had to deal with an unexpectedly rainy weekend, which required loads of extra effort because all of our events were outdoors. We also ended up with a delayed ceremony start due to an unexpected and unavoidable problem with one of our shuttles. But MRD handled these issues flawlessly, and ensured we did not feel any of this stress. They communicated with us clearly and calmly about issues when needed, but otherwise insulated us from the stress and allowed us to relax and enjoy our weekend, which we did. Wish we could do it all over again! We would hire MRD again in an instant.
I had the honor of working with two of the most talented men in the industry Matthew Robbins and Luis Otoya. My husband and I met Matthew and Luis and did not need to speak to any other wedding planners. The beauty of their events starts with understanding the emotions each bride and groom is trying to exude on their special day. No idea is unimaginable when you talk with Matthew and Luis. They go deeper than just planning an event they are there for you on an emotional level. You know everything will be taken care of and you as the bride or groom will never feel the weight of any stress. They are your protectors on what is one of the most special days of your life. They are very professional and I can not imagine my wedding being planned by anyone else. Matthew Robbins and Luis Otoya are truly magical human beings and it is felt and seen in their creative endeavors. If you have the chance to work with this talent enjoy every moment!
My husband and I can not thank Matthew Robbins Design enough for bringing to life the wedding of our dreams. Since we first met the team, we knew we were in the hands of true professionals and thought leaders in the wedding industry. We had a very specific idea about how we wanted the wedding to look and flow, and they not only brought it to life, but also exceeded our expectations. The result was a really well thought out, well planned wedding with beautiful details and gorgeous floral arrangements, all within budget. Beyond the wedding itself, Matthew and Luis have a spirit and passion for making it the perfect day for the couple. They made everything extremely stress-free and are solution-oriented despite any curveball during the wedding process. We had such a positive experience with them that we genuinely miss the planning process! In addition, it's been over six months since our wedding and we are still getting comments from guests how beautiful the weekend was, all thanks to the amazing work by MRD.
My daughter chose the Glenmere Mansion for her wedding. Matthew Robbins and his team coordinated the entire weekend starting Friday night with rehearsal through Sunday brunch. It was truly a beautiful event with the MRD team and their recommended vendors doing it all including arrangements for busing guests up from NYC. They even helped sew on buttons for tux suspenders for the groomsmen! We had two large tents for the wedding, one for the ceremony (since it was a rainy weekend) and one for the reception dinner. They were perfectly decorated and made it an unforgettable day!

We had no experience in wedding planning so we interviewed 8 wedding designers and decided upon
Matthew Robbins to create our daughters wedding. I was not considering a destination wedding but my daughter was keen on the concept. Matthew Robbins design team executed a three day wedding weekend in Cabo San Lucas with every detail and timed to perfection. The rehearsal dinner was featured in Martha Stewart. Not only is Matthew creative with an amazing eye for sophisticated beauty but his loving heart is unsurpassed. When my second daughter got engaged we called him straight away to plan a local wedding which was every bit as impeccable. I would not hesitate to work with him at any opportunity in the future. He is a good person through and through and truly cares about giving the client a beautiful wedding.
Visionary geniuses with flawless execution is the best way to describe the MRD team! They handled my daughter's wedding in the Berkshires exceptionally well. From the moment I met with Matthew and Luis, I knew we were in the hands of experts. Both are great listeners and have an uncanny ability to make dreams come true.
My daughter wanted a wedding that exuded romantic ethereal esthetics and they captured this vision into all of the details. Their florals are second to none. Their vendors are equally as talented and professional.
My greatest compliment to the team is that they execute with precision and stay within budget---clearly not an easy task. They remove all worry from the family and stay by your side the entire time. They care about their clients a great deal and clearly love what they do.

My wedding week required my planners to have the highest level of coordination, and Matthew Robbins Design came highly recommended. I had the hard task of planning a destination wedding in Cartagena, Colombia all the way from Los Angeles ( in only 8 months) ! The very first phone call I had with the team put me at ease. MRD not only designed my wedding weekend, but also planned the logistics, and even some of the catering for five different events during a four day period. It really was outstanding, as some of these events were as elaborate as the wedding reception itself! One event also involved buses and boats to an over the top island party! Every party down to every detail was perfect, beautiful, and fun! As an event planner myself I have very high standards and close attention to detail -which were all surpassed! The daily emails and weekly calls between myself and the team made planning a destination wedding feel so easy. The entire team was so reliable, kind, and loving. Guests still talk about how it was the BEST wedding they ever went to and how logistically everything flowed so seamlessly. I can't think of another team that could have had all my requests come alive, while keeping out the stress of wedding planning! To say working with The MRD team was a joy is an understatement, and I would highly recommend them!
We worked with Matthew and Luis from MRD and their fabulous staff for our wedding last April. I cannot recommend them enough. To say we were demanding is probably an understatement. My husband and I, as well as our families, came in with very high expectations about what we wanted for our wedding and MRD exceeded all of these expectations. I am certainly what one would call a "type A" person and needed structure and organization, which as a team, they more than delivered.
We decided to do a destination wedding in a place that the team had never worked before and they were wonderful in finding all of the best local vendors right from the beginning. They clearly have amazing connections all over the US and the world and each of the vendors was so excited to work with them. We did 3 planning trips with Matthew and Luis to the destination. Each time they created a very detailed schedule so that we could make the best use of our time.
They put together our vision absolutely perfectly and delivered in every aspect. The entire weekend - which had five events and lots of very complicated logistics (e.g. buses, bag delivery to multiple locations, shipping, tight timelines) - went flawlessly. There was no detail that they missed. From the signs to the welcome bags to the blankets and shawls to keep guests warm (we had an outdoor wedding) to the custom sunglasses (the ceremony faced directly into the sun), everyone is still talking about how we thought of everything. There was no ask too big for the MRD team. I even requested our favorite cookies from home, Levain in NYC, at the after-party. No questions asked - they had them shipped down and out there waiting and warm for the guests on the way to the after-party. Day-of they took care of all the logistics and had extra staff on hand to run everything. I didn't find out till after but it was a little windy that day and the reception was in a tent and the stemmed glasses kept falling over. MRD didn't bother any of us with this issue and instead had the caterer come back with an entire new set of 300 stemless glasses 3 hours before the wedding and re-set all the tables...they really take care of it all!
MRD was communicative throughout the whole process and always addressed any of our concerns with complete care and professionalism. One thing we loved so much about working with Matthew and Luis was how they interacted with us throughout the whole process. Planning a wedding can certainly be stressful, with many parties involved, and they were a constant calming presence throughout the planning process.
I can't recommend them enough!
We hired Matthew Robbins Design, predominantly based on reputation. Ultimately, we recognized that we required a level of coordination and communication MRD wasn’t able to deliver, and we regret not taking more time to understand who would be more suited to working with us. That said, Matthew and his team did do a beautiful job in designing the look and feel we had envisioned.
My husband and I did work day and night, doing the majority of the planning, organizing, and a lot of the design elements ourselves. Even our maid of honor found herself taking over the coordination role (and had even memorized the 47 page timeline my husband and I created.) Everyone went to her for everything, including MRD.
If you are as detailed orientated as we are, get a planner that specializes in logistics, and separate that from your designer. Also, as pointed out earlier, take the time to think of and ask the right questions to ensure you are working with people that are prepared to work in the way you do. We had a number of things that did not turn out as we’d hoped because we didn’t do this. An important example was the Baraat being forgotten during the setup of the mandap. Busloads of guests arrived at an unfinished ceremony site, until they heard the music and moved towards the dock. (This was upsetting for two reasons. One, we had discussed it many times and had outlined it in the detailed timeline we painstakingly produced. Two, stressed staff ended up being rude to our arriving families, which was not a great start to the day.)
Also, make sure to discuss and write your vision down together as a team, before your planners start making you second guess what is important to you both as a team.
