McGovern Centennial Gardens was an absolute dream come true for our February wedding! Their selection of preferred vendors is top-tier. While they provided tables and chairs, we opted to upgrade to nicer chairs, which elevated the ambiance perfectly.
The added convenience of reserved parking spots was a bonus. With its natural beauty, not much decor is needed at this venue – it's simply stunning on its own. Highly recommend McGovern Centennial Gardens for a magical wedding experience!
Do not book your wedding here. It is a beautiful venue but dealing with management made wedding planning 10x more difficult. Your checks will be cashed and in return, they will provide zero flexibility.
For example, the park is open to the public until 5pm. We requested to set up at 4:30 and was met with a resolute no. Our wedding planner offered to provide bottled water and a photo booth specifically for park guests during this 30 minute window. Park management still refused. That is just one of many scenarios we experienced. Truly such an unpleasant and infuriating experience that added so much unnecessary stress.
We always planned for an outdoor ceremony and reception in the celebration garden. The week of our wedding we had flash flood warnings and extreme weather and had to decide if we were going to move our reception inside or not. They were so patient and accommodating with our sudden changes to location and layout and worked hard to help our day go smoothly. They were flexible while we were deciding and did everything they possibly could to make our day perfect. We highly highly recommend getting married here and working with these fine people. We can not even put to words how thankful we are for them!
This review is for LOTT HALL -- a second, newer venue in Hermann Park, run by the same people as Centennial Gardens.
We toured this space while it was being set up for another wedding and fell in love immediately. The rooms are not super large but were perfect for our wedding of 150 guests. They had a few restrictions (no tenting in back; no sparklers) and staff was easy to work with for payments, etc.
Inside -- high ceilings, chandeliers, lots of brick/stucco, NOT RUSTIC (which was important for us). AC worked amazing on a hot summer day, which was nice after our shuttle & ceremony location had none!
Outside -- beautiful grounds with lots of flowers, benches, nice lawn and wide covered patio & portico for your guests. I've had multiple engaged friends ask about the venue because they loved it so much, too!
MCG was not my original wedding venue, but I am so glad things worked out the way they did. This turned out to be the most perfect wedding venue. We had a fall wedding and the weather was perfect. The celebration garden was wonderful for our ceremony and the pavilion worked out great for our reception. Gretchen was a pleasure to work with and we did not encounter a single issue.
Gorgeous venue, we used the celebration garden for ceremony and reception. Our booking lasted an hour after the park closed, so we had the whole park to ourselves at sunset. My guests loved being able to walk around after dinner without the public being there. John was super sweet and helpful the day of. The actual coordinator assigned to the event was apparently not very helpful according to my wedding planner.
I had the pleasure of working a wedding at McGovern Centennial Gardens recently and I cannot say enough great things about this venue! Not only is it a STUNNING space for your ceremony and reception that is conveniently located in Houston, but the staff's kindness and helpfulness are outstanding! I will be recommending them to all our clients as I cannot wait to work there again.
This was not our original venue, but due to coronavirus, we had to postpone the large celebration and wanted a beautiful spot for a small ceremony on our original date. Despite late notice, and all parks being closed, Gretchen was able to quickly/easily facilitate booking/parking for our event in the Celebration Garden. Since parks were closed, the parking lot was also closed but she provided a phone number for someone to let us into the inside of the facility so we could park in employee parking and leave our belongings in a safe space, despite this not being a part of the original contract. It is a beautiful venue. Very pleased.
We loved our ceremony and reception at McGovern Centennial Gardens. Several months later and my guests still comment on how beautiful our wedding was. From the beginning staff were incredibly helpful and communicative always following up if I left a message. They have beautiful chairs and tables so that is a money saver and their parking as well as large kitchen were exactly what we needed for our 100 guests. On the day of, all of the details we talked about were taken care of and the venue was just how I pictured it for our big day. It was on the pricier side for a venue but I very much wanted to be married surrounded by architecture and my husband wanted to be close to the city center. In Houston all venues are expensive. Now when I visit the gardens or drive by I always remember our special day. It was spectacular and all of our photos capture one of the most incredible places in Houston. So happy we chose this space.
I had a terrible experience with the staff here. They told me everything I wanted to hear to get me to sign the contract and hand over the deposit. Once I was locked in things started to change quickly. They changed what they said about the start and end times, although we had reserved all spaces we were DENIED access to the inside space even for a spot for my grandmother to sit in the air conditioning before the wedding. Overall it was a horrible experience and be warned the people who work here are liars and will say one thing to get you in the door and change everything once you are locked in. They are also very disorganized and hard to contact- less than a week before my wedding they didn't know who we were or when our wedding was taking place.
Lavada helped us put together a wedding in a flash! We booked an express wedding in September for a ceremony in December and it was absolutely amazing!! It was everything I wanted. Small but still extremely beautiful. All I had to do was rent some chairs and get a DJ to play some music for us to walk down the aisle to. Everyone was so professional and so helpful. You can tell they love their facility and they do a great job of making sure people stay away from the Celebration Garden during your time. Lavada was even so kind to respond to an insane panicked text I sent in the middle of the night because it was supposed to rain on my wedding day and I had no idea what to do. She calmed me down immediately and made sure we would be taken care of. I'm so happy with how our wedding day turned out. Thank you everyone at Hermann Park!
They were very helpful in helping me with everything on my wedding day making sure everything went smoothly. It was a bit hard getting in touch with someone leading up to my event, but eventually I did get in touch with them and they were helpful.
