My husband chose Mens Wearhouse for tux rentals. I was a bit nervous at first...my only other experience with them is prom rentals back in the day and wasn't sure about going through a chain store for our big day. However, their selection (albeit a bit limited) was of high quality. Most importantly, they all fit like a glove! The rental and return process was easy, and included all accessories (bow tie, shoes, socks, shirt, cuff links, pocket square, etc) which was a plus. Most importantly, they have a vast selection of sizes to account for everyone in our group.
BRIDES: Don't bother with Burlington, MA location!!! Waste of time. I wish someone told me how awful this store was before I came in.
Over the last 8 months of wedding planning, visiting this location was BY FAR the worst experience I've had doing anything wedding-related (and if we're being honest, I can't recall a worse case of customer service in my recent memory).
My groom's father just passed away so we went into the store to pick the formal wear for our October wedding, and we even brought his mother along, as a fun way to get back into wedding planning.
We were ignored for about 10-15 minutes, and then when finally approached we told the salesman we had an appointment booked for noon and he didn't notify anyone of our arrival. Another couple walked in about 10 minutes after us and also said they had an appointment booked for noon. There was apparently only one "gentleman" (and I use that term loosely) available to help both couples so he walked over to us, barked at us and the other couple to sit down, and then told us he'd be doing our appointments at the same time. He literally sat there and did our intakes at the same exact time (i.e. would ask me/my fiance our info., and then turn to other couple and ask exact same questions of them). It was so unbelievable impersonal and unprofessional we left after about 4 intake questions.
We walked out of the store with no apology or inquiry into why we were leaving and so my fiance went back in to speak to a manager. A salesman went over to the manager, who was folding clothes at the time, the manager looked at my fiance and then went back to folding clothes and after waiting about 5 minutes of the manager ignoring him (letting us very clearly know he didn't care about our concerns), my fiance decided to just leave.
You should all be embarrassed at how poorly that store is run. I don't think that being pleasant and nice to customers is asking for too much.
So I did mine in Newton, MA, but this applied to other locations in MA, as well as other states as well. For Tux rentals, they had pretty much 4 types, 2 in black 1 in grey 1 in white, so selection was not great. Also for vests, we were told the color we should use to match the bridesmaid dresses, problem is that 1 color only was used on 1 of their vests.
So where to start on how things went wrong. First off in each place, it seems the senior members will not handle tux rentals, that is below their status. So they make the younger staff members who do not do this professionally do the whole process. So it is great that a wedding is such a big deal, that they put their least senior members to help out.
Second, the mistakes, and oh there were many. 1. After doing the whole choosing of tux's and styles, I find out when I got for my original fitting that they actually never put what I was going to be wearing into the systems. Yes the Groom is the 1 person they forget. 2. when we were done and tried to log into the online version so to manage the tuxes, it would not let us. The only people that seemed competent in their jobs were the online help, who helped to fix this and fix a mistake we would find in part 3. 3. We added both fathers to the group, having them have exactly the same outfit. Well first they forgot to put shoes to my father, so when I saw the receipt I had to point this out. Second they originally gave the brides father the wrong vest and tie color, so the fathers did not match at all. This we were luckily able to find and fix online. How they mess this up so easily when everything is computerized I do not know. 4. The measurements. One groomsman they did not have try on clothes to make sure the sizes they measured fit. Both fathers they tried to give them Slim Fit pants, even though they were never requested. Out of 8 tux's 4 or 5 of them had issues with measurements being completely wrong and needing to be fixed. 5. After getting my supposed discount from their promo, as well as paying my down payment, when I tried to make my final payment, they tried to charge the original full amount. I told them we had the promo code, which when shown, they applied the discount, and stated I needed to make a down payment for this whole thing to even be saved, which they then verified and applied the amount I had previously paid.
Honestly, Men's Warehouse sucks for tux rental. The only thing that helps is if all people are out of state they can go to different locations, and also you can return to any one of their stores. This is the only reason I used them. Every wedding I have been a part of they have messed up in one way or another from examples like the ones above. If you have your whole wedding party close by, I would say use anyone else.
I used mens wearhouse for my groomsmen at the Solomond pond mall. they be we're easy going and helpful. All my groommen had a flawless experience and looked great. many were from out of state.
The SAUGUS location was HORRIBLE. The manager was so ignorant and EXTREMLY RUDE.
The mens ware return date was the day after our wedding and we were out of state for a destination wedding. When I called to explain this, they took information stating they would have ANA the manager call me back. (Never received a call)
That evening we happened to be in the store, and I inquired about changing the return date due to our out of state wedding, and ANA told me she was TOO BUSY to call me back.
Then, when my son went to pick up his tux, it was completely the wrong size, we were leaving in the morning at 8am to the wedding, and it had just came in that day. He was told by ANA "Come back tomorrow and we can fix it, I'm too busy right now." Needless to say that wasn't an option so we did NOT leave and demanded it be fixed. It took her less than 10 mins to fix it, yet she could have cared less about helping us.
The rentals are supposed to be for 7 full days and they were trying to give us less than 24 hours.
ANA is horrendous and lacks all common sense and should NOT be a manager at all. No customer service skills.
The Auburn, MA store lost 2 of the groomsmen suits during the tailoring process, and then one groomsman wasn't able to get the correct sized jacket. AVOID AUBURN MA STORE AT ALL COSTS!!! They never even offered a partial refund!
THEY DID A GREAT JOB
It’s really too bad, and this isn’t the first time I have heard this about this company---many of my friends have had this experience with various Men’s Wearhouse stores nationwide. Regardless, we went through Men’s Wearhouse for our tux rentals because they could guarantee a match for our David’s Bridal Bridesmaids dresses, offered any store pick up/drop off, and were offering “deals.” I do have to say that the tuxes looked fabulous at our wedding, as I believe they always do. However, this is the one vendor I had a lot of trouble with. They just couldn’t seem to get anything right—examples: gray suit jacket given out with black pants, wrong size pants, adult bowtie instead of kid’s size, groom tux not ready on time…and the list amazingly goes on. This is not how it should be! Further, my husband was offered a free tux with the rental of his groomsmen’s tuxes. He put down a deposit and was told he would get that back—although we have called several times and made it back there, I’m still not sure if they actually figured out how to credit his card back. This staff and company need to get their act together to continue on in business.
it costs $150 plus tax for a suit/pants. I am not sure whether this is the standard, but it feels a little steep to me. In the end, i bought a black wool suit with pants from Banana Republic for less than $400.
