Our wedding was absolutely fantastic! The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa was the perfect venue to celebrate our love. We are eternally grateful to Caitlin Michels and the rest of the amazing staff for their kindness, professionalism and support. Our day was flawless and full of joy. Our guests had a wonderful time and enjoyed delicious food and wine, we are so happy!
We had the most fabulous wedding weekend at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa!! Caitlin Michaels was our coordinator and her professionalism, responsiveness and organizational skills made us feel at ease throughout the whole entire process. The ceremony on the lower terrace and the reception in the Monterey Bay Ballroom were just perfect. Our guests kept telling us it was the most gorgeous venue and best wedding they had ever been to, including their own! We have nothing but amazing things to say about the staff, venue and overall experience. We are forever grateful and indebted to them for their hospitality and talent.
I just got married here on April 14th, and I cannot say how much of a wonderful experience it was!!! The ceremony location is right over the water and we got really lucky with beautiful weather! All of our guests thought the venue was so beautiful, and those that stayed at the hotel all had great experiences! The Hotel Staff is incredibly accommodating and professional, even though they are plenty busy! If you can, get married here in the off-season: it is much nicer for your budget, crowd reasons, and room availability. Seriously, I had the perfect wedding day mostly do to the Hotel staff, location, and work of Caitlin (the wedding coordinator). It's sometimes challenging to get a hold of Caitlin, but she always came through in regards to questions, paperwork, etc. GET MARRIED HERE, you won't regret it!!!
The Monterey Plaza, Caitlin & Alexis and the whole staff exceeded our expectations on our wedding weekend! Every part of our special day was magical and will be a day to go down in history. All of our guests said they felt as if they were at a celebrity event with the décor, attentiveness of staff, top quality food and drink and venue location. Thank you for making our wedding remembered as a wedding that will be impossible to beat! We will forever be grateful for everything!
The entire staff of the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa is amazing. You truly receive first-class service while you plan your wedding and also stay there. We had about 130 guests for our wedding. We used the Upper Plaza for our ceremony and cocktail hour and the Dolphins Ballroom for our reception.. All of the staff, especially Caitlin (Alexis was on maternity leave) were greatly responsive by email to questions and concerns. I was very impressed with what was included when you book the hotel for the ceremony and reception. Most places require extra rentals, but the Monterey Plaza already has a great selection of linens and decor for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, which helped us save money and time. We did upgrade to chiavari chairs which was very worth it. The food is amazing. The chef is willing to work with any diet restrictions. We had a guest that has very strict sodium restrictions and the chef made a special meal for her.
Some points we really cared about for our guests were having all the sites close together so guests didn't have to walk far and having an ocean view. The Monterey Plaza view is truly priceless. We had an absolutely beautiful day. What we loved about the Dolphins Ballroom is that is right behind where the ceremony was so guests didn't have to walk far. And throughout dancing, guests could go right outside to the plaza and enjoy the setting sun (it sets much later in NorCal in the summer months - like 8pm) and get some fresh air.
I believe the Monterey Plaza is severely undervalued. We had impeccable service from start to finish. You will not be disappointed if you choose this as your site for your wedding.
I cannot say enough amazing things about the Monterey Plaza Hotel and, more importantly, Alexis Davis and her team! My husband and I were originally deciding between the Intercontinental and the Monterey Plaza. I am so happy we picked the Monterey Plaza. From the first email correspondence, Alexis went out of her way to work with my husband, my family and myself to make sure the Monterey Plaza could fit in our budget and accommodate our guest size (~230 on the day of the wedding). Unlike Betty at the Intercontinental, Alexis or her assistant, Chelsea, responded to email correspondence and/or telephone calls in a timely and professional manner and always showed up to appointments on time. The day I went to meet with both hotels, Betty did not show up and sent her assistant to meet with my family and me. Her assistant was not prepared and was unable to answer 95% of our questions. On top of that, Betty did not have the courtesy or professionalism to even send an email or make a call to inform me that she would not attend our scheduled meeting, even while knowing that my family was coming up from Long Beach and I was coming down from Sacramento just to meet with her. On the other hand, Alexis had a notebook with all the information discussed leading up to the meeting, price sheets, and recommended vendors. Alexis professionalism and availability did not change from the time we Put down our deposit (in November 2015) until our wedding (in July 2016). She never tried to upsell us and always provides helpful ideas and brilliant opinions. On the day of the wedding, she made sure everything ran smoothly and that my husband, myself, our wedding party, and our families were well taken care of and everything went to plan. If there were any hiccups, I was unaware of them. Lastly, the food absolutely delicious and the catering managers, servers, bartender, and entire hotel staff made sure our day was unforgettable! I would highly highly highly recommend the Monterey
The Monterey Plaza Hotel is the absolutely best wedding venue in Monterey. It's obvious by the photos that this hotel is set amongst some of the world's most beautiful backdrop. In fact it's one of few hotels in Monterey on the ocean. But Monterey Plaza Hotel is so much more than the backdrop. Thanks to Alexis, MPH takes all the stress out of wedding planning and day-of coordination. Alexis is professional, nice, and knowledgable of all wedding details. There is no need for a wedding planner if you decide to hold your ceremony and reception at Monterey Plaza Hotel. If you choose vendors from MPH's approved list, Alexis communicates directly with them, leaving you stress-free on your big day.
What really touched me the most about Alexis and her team, was the considerations made for us on our wedding day. After the ceremony, Alexis met us with champagne for my husband and I (literally at the end of the aisle). The catering staff also saved both of us a plate of each of the appetizers, which was waiting for us at our sweetheart table when it was time for dinner. Later that night, Caitlin coordinated for wedding cake, chocolate strawberries, and champagne to be in our gorgeous ocean view room. The day was such a whirlwind, and these small details were really appreciated.
The food was also exquisite on our day. I had guests choose from filet mignon and salmon. We also had the clam chowder for the soup, which I would recommend. It was delicious and really incorporates Monterey's personality in the dinner. MPH had alternative soups on-hand for any guests with allergies. At the end of the night, we had Scoops, MPH's ice cream cart. This was a real hit at our wedding! Guests could get a scoop of ice-cream and toppings of their choice. Everybody loved it!!
I still think of my special day with a huge smile, thanks to Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa!
Our wedding was AMAZING at the Plaza!
From the beginning Alexis, the wedding coordinator, was wonderful. She was very informative, easy to talk with, and answered and questions we had via in person, phone or email. Because we are not from the area, we were very happy that they supplied us with a recommended vendor list and when asked for her opinion, Alexis did a GREAT job in pointing us in the best direction for us not just for her favorite vendor.
Our actual wedding day went perfect! Weather was amazing- not that anyone could control that- Our ceremony was on the Lower Terrance and the ceremony went smooth as well as the cocktail hour. The food was delicious (and we are major 'foodies') we couldn't believe how good the filet mignon was! When we did our tasting before the wedding, my husband actually asked if the food would look like how they presented it to us in the tasting on the wedding day! Plating was amazing as well as taste. Their plated menu actually is a better choice than their buffet choices because of their standards on food wastage. You get your plated 3 course meal as well as appetizers during cocktail hour AND champagne for the cost of the buffet meal which doesn’t include the apps or champagne. Throughout the day, Alexis did a great job keeping us on track and was there when we had questions or requests. The reception ended and they weren’t pushy about us leaving right away.
We had the Monterey Ballroom and highly recommend it. Both the Lower Terrace and Monterey Ballroom are more private than the others which is why we picked them. The ballroom opens up to a balcony and can actually access the beach from there.
The Plaza was everything we wanted in our venue. Beautiful scenery, great staff, amazing accommodations, and delicious food! You get the beach/bay view without actually being in the sand - something we loved. We can’t wait to go back for our one year anniversary!
Our wedding was exactly a month ago and we could not have been happier with the venue we chose! The Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa was the PERFECT place for our special day. I worked closely with Alexis Davis @ the Plaza throughout our planning process. She was AMAZING! Alexis and all of the staff at The Plaza have been genuine, caring, and always very professional. Every detail was covered, even some we didn't expect. We got married on the lower terrace and were greeted with champagne and congratulated as soon as we ascended the stairs at the conclusion of our ceremony. The Banquet Chef made sure our guests were well taken care of during our reception and checked in with us frequently. He even took the time to prepare a few boxes of food for me as I wasn't able to eat during the reception. When we returned to our room after the wedding, all of our gifts and personal items from the wedding were there along with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries with a nice card from the hotel. Everything was top quality. The site, service, food and staff were excellent. I have no hesitation giving the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa my highest recommendation.
Alexis is amazing and made sure that my wedding went so smooth! She is so organized, calm, and pleasant to work with!!!
My wedding turned out amazing because our coordinator was awesome! She payed attention to all details the day of and was there when I needed her to help me with something. She was the reason I was able to enjoy my beautiful day! Also the hotel's caterer was some of the best wedding food I have ever had!
Alexis Davis worked with me the entire time and did an excellent job. She was very quick to respond and was able to assist where needed. I live 2 hours from the venue, so I had to do things from a distance. She was a great partner. The venue is gorgeous and we got several compliments.
Beautiful location! Having the cocktail hour over the ocean and watching a pod of dolphins was something our guests will never forget.
My husband and I recently got married at the Monterey Plaza Hotel (MPH). We had our ceremony on the lower terrace and our reception in a nearby ballroom overlooking the ocean. The event was absolutely stunning and everything we had hoped for. We have nothing but positive feedback for this venue. The service was incredible. The coordinator was kind, responsive, proactive, and positive. The food was delicious. The MPH was worth every penny. We would definitely recommend this setting as a wedding venue.
The Monterey Plaza Hotel (MPH) has it all. A beautiful venue, gorgeous scenery, delicious food, and top-class customer service from everybody but most of all the catering manager, Alexis Davis. She is as responsive, helpful, and warm as you could possibly wish! Thanks to her, planning our wedding was a pleasant and fun experience. The cost is not cheap, and there are restrictions in terms of the vendors you may use, but you definitely get what you pay for, and the mitigated stress from knowing your vendors have the MPH's seal of approval is invaluable. My husband and I are so happy we chose the MPH for our wedding venue! Highly recommend!
We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Monterey Plaza in July 2011. We planned this as a destination wedding from our home in Colorado. We wanted an oceanside wedding, and this is the perfect venue for it. We were able to have the ceremony on a terrace overlooking Monterey Bay. The background was amazing! Everything about the planning process was very smooth, and they were so helpful. Our wedding was perfect and everything was taken care with the most amazing service. Also, the food and cake were delicious. We got many compliments on everything from our guests. Staying at the Plaza was a treat as well; their oceanfront rooms are beautiful. I highly recommend looking into the Monterey Plaza as an all-in-one wedding venue.
This place is amazing. Considering what we paid and what we got I feel like we got a huge bargain! The venue was beautiful, even had sea otters playing in the water behind us at our wedding ceremony, and the staff was amazing. The food was great and the service staff was so above and beyond my guests cant stop talking about it! Alexis at the catering managers office is just an angel. She was so calm and kept everything together for me. I could not have been happier any where else for my wedding. My husband agrees, he is Navy and didnt get to see the venue until the week of the wedding, but he loved everything. I cannot say enough amazing things about this venue.
The Monterey Plaza was an amazing reception venue! We had 220 guests and held our reception in the Cypress Ballroom. We also rented out the Lower Terrace for a cocktail hour. Guests were stunned by the bay views and the fact that it is RIGHT on the water. We worked closely with their wedding coordinator Kui, who was always punctual and kind. She made sure everything was setup correctly and things ran smoothly the day of. It makes a huge difference when a venue has a coordinator like Kui.
One of our biggest compliments after the wedding was the quality of the food! Guests loved the asparagus soup and filet mignon that was served! The Cypress Ballroom is very unique as well. At first I was not a fan of the large paintings on the walls but they grew on me over time. We also rented up-lights that made the room look even better. Great venue and guests were definitely “wowed” by the hotel. It set the tone for the whole evening.
