The building is really cool, I loved the rustic, eclectic look. But there were a few issues.
1. We could not decorate the night before because they had already booked the location, and they wouldn't let you book Friday and Saturday. This resu...lted in us doing the rehearsal the day of, and some big decorating issues.
2. We were VERY LIMITED on decorating time. we only had from 8am to noon. And when I arrived at 8:00, the doors were locked. When someone finally let me in, I found that they had not cleaned up the area so my mother, wedding party and other family had to help clean up from the night before so we could actually start decorating. It was a mad dash. The Museum's excuse for the four hour decorating time was that they were short staffed (considering we paid for the entire day, I felt they should have figured something better out). We had to decorate and do the rehearsal in that four hour time period. They also locked the doors at noon, so if we couldn't even leave anything in the building that we would need for pictures. They then opened the doors again at 4:00.
3. They change the artwork on the walls every two months. The first two times I toured the building, they had really beautiful artwork hanging up. BUT on the day of the wedding I found that the art had changed again, to a burned wood technique of naked humans. Basically all of my head table shots have abstract pictures of boobs, vaginas, and butts. I didn't want to do the tacky white thing behind the head table so I just went with it, and am going to Photoshop out the naked pictures.
The building is very "green", so everything had to be recyclable. I didn't run into any issues with this, and my caterer had done a few events there so they knew what the rules were. You will want to confirm these rules with your caterer, the Museum is pretty strict.
It's a great location, but if you plan on having your event there be prepared (even more so than you had originally planned), make sure you check the artwork right before the event, and have a contingency plan for your contingency plans!
