I went into Nancy's Bridal recently and at first, the service was wonderful. I found a gorgeous dress and I was really happy with all the fine details. I then asked the assistant and the alterations manager who the designer was, and they insist...ed that they could not reveal the designers name because they were extremely private about their designs. In an attempt to assure them that I was serious about purchasing the dress, I asked if I could take a picture to remember the gown. Once again, I was told this wasn't possible. Now, I do understand the alterations managers concern about taking a picture of the gown because the design can then be replicated by another maker. However, I do not understand their refusal to reveal the designer, label and style number. I was beginning to get slightly suspicious about the dress itself because the price was worth a designer label. However, on the inside of the gown there was no label. Why would you remove the designer label, refuse to reveal the designer, and expect a bride to pay "top dollar" for a dress that could be a knock-off? Of course, as every determined bride-to-be does, I searched every where on the internet for this dress. Guess what? I FOUND IT! Pictures galore! Style number too!! The designer just happens to be one of the most popular labels for bridal gowns. So, I played detective and called one of their retailers and asked if they were allowed to reveal the Casablanca name, label and style number, and the assistant said, "Yes, of course, in fact, it is encouraged!" Soooo, my fellow brides-to-be, I called Nancy's Bridal and told them about the incident. They said that as a business, they are concerned about entering into a "price-war" with another store. I understand that, but tried to explain that with one hint of dishonesty or even smell of suspiciousness, sends a bride running. I would not invest over $1500 in their store if I felt they weren't being completely honest with me. As a business, it is their job to sell the designer, not tear of the label from the inside of the dress. Long story short, they insisted that it is a real casablanca gown, and they apologized. Now the question remains, do I enter into business with Nancy's Bridal? What else are they going to try and hide from customers? In business, honesty should be the first policy.
