To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I dropped my dress off early in August. Didn’t hear a word until I began to text her. Then she made every excuse possible why she had to cancel 5 appointments in a row. She fell, a bloody nose, her furnace was out, car accident and so on.
When I finally went in for what I thought was my final fitting in early January, 6 months after I dropped the dress off, she had not even touched the dress. She was supposed to have it hemmed, a new bra sewn into it. (she also did not remember I had even dropped the bra off). My dress needed very minimal alterations and she could not complete it on time.
When I went in the next time after 2 more cancelations, she had still not hemmed the dress or sewn the new bra into it. I had more cancellations again after this and they were less than 1 week from when the dress needed to be done. I went in for another appointment, put on the dress, and saw the complete hack job she did. It sent me to tears. A 5 year old child appeared to have sewn in the bra. The bra showed on the see through sides of the dress, and she told me “it’ll be just fine, just keep your arms down.” The hem was completely un even and was still not close to the length it needed to be. She also forgot to sew my “something blue” into the dress; she left it at her home and had to run home, get it, come back and sew it in. She did this in a completely rushed state and this also appears like a 5 year old could have sewn it in better.
At this point, I decided that I was taking the dress how it was, I was in complete distress now as the dress is supposed to be leaving in 3 days. I had to find a true professional to fix the hem, the bra and re-sew in my something blue.
I also dropped my daughters bridesmaids dresses off with her with the wedding dress. They were fully sealed in the bag from Azazie. When we went to do the final fitting there was now a stain on my daughters dress. We have pictures to prove that the stain was not there when we dropped it off. Nickie said she would take this all the way to small claims court because she doesn’t allow food or drink in her shop (yet she admitted to working on mine at her home, where I’m sure she has drinks and food around). She sewed on little belts to their dresses. As soon as my daughter put it on it was falling apart and needed to be re done.
I would highly suggest using anyone but Nickie at Perfect Occasions in Shakopee. She can not be trusted with your dress, timelines, or simply being honest. Be prepared for every excuse in the books for cancellations. After looking at previous reviews, this appears to be a common theme with her.
I have contacted her for reimbursement for the “work” she did to the dress. She stated she is now having “problems” with her Venmo and she’s working on it.
I would stay as far away from this business as possible. Getting my daughter’s dress altered was the most stressful part of the whole wedding.
I contacted Nickie in March for a June wedding. She said that she could do it, and any of the bridesmaids’ dresses, but we needed to get the dress there ASAP. About five and a half weeks went by with NO COMMUNICATION from Nickie regarding the dress. I finally contacted her for an update. At that point, she scheduled a fitting, which she then cancelled 30 minutes beforehand because she wasn’t ready.
Anytime we wanted an update, we had to contact her. There were at least 3 fitting appointments that were cancelled. The week before the wedding, after cancelling again, we told her we were picking up the dress the next day at the final fitting. Once again, the dress was not ready. It needed more altering and steaming.
My daughter looked beautiful, but the finished product was not fitted correctly. The bust was still too big and the bustle lasted about a half hour tops. We spent a lot of time pinning her dress up so she wouldn’t have to worry about it. I was told by Nickie, after the fact, that all bustles fall. I have not found any other bride whose bustle didn’t hold.
(We had a similar experience with a bridesmaid dress)
This is not the way to run a business and I would not recommend her to anyone.
Nickie did a good job on my hem and moving my straps but the rest wasn’t very good. She moved the cups in my dress and the sewing didn’t hold up. We had to re-tape them in just moments before my first look. I had only had my dress on for an hour. It was stressful… With how my dress was, the cups had to be perfect, and unfortunately they weren’t. Lucikly we were able to fix them enough for them to hold up that day, however we shouldn’t have had to worry about that.. She also didn’t start my MOH dress until 6 days before our wedding and she messed her cups up too. She sewed in a bra and it was showing over the top of her dress. I don’t understand how someone with 32 years of experience makes these kinds of mistakes.. 😕 She also argued with me when I wanted to pick up my dress sooner than she recommenced. She wanted me to pick it up on the way to my venue. 😳 She wasn’t the best to work with. I’d recommend not using Nickie and save yourself the stress and find someone else for alterations, even if you have to drive a littler further.
Nickie is wonderful to work with! My first appointment was in February to drop off my dress. At your first appointment, she will talk through everything you want to have worked on on your dress. She will also offer hair and jewelry advice.
My second appointment was supposed to be in September, but she got sick with covid. Once she was better, we made an appointment for October. She hadn't made any alts to my dress yet. As she explained to me, brides can lose or gain weight between appointments, so she waits to make the alts until closer to the wedding so your body is more consistent. In my case, I did both between appointments. When I tried my dress on again, I had lost ten pounds and my dress was hanging off of me. She told me to eat a burrito.
My third appointment was yesterday. Nickie had made all of the alts to my dress. I didn't think it was possible, but I fell in love with it all over again. I didn't want to take it off! But I did so she could add one of her final touches. Nickie likes to take a piece of a bride's mother's wedding dress and make a heart with it to sew into the bride's skirt. She did this in front of my mom and me while we chatted. Nickie had also steamed my dress, so we were able to take it home that day.
Nickie will chat with you about your dress and your wedding concerns. But she will also chat with you about life because she is so warm and welcoming. She takes the time to get to know you and it shows that her heart is in everything she does. Nickie will bend over backward to make you look and feel beautiful on your wedding day. Go to her. I can't recommend her enough.
Do NOT take your wedding dress here. You do not want the added stress/anxiety. I took my dress to Nickie at the end of January 2020, she gave me such high hopes on my dress and made it seem like my wedding dress dreams were going to become reality. In mid March I notified her that we were postponing to October 2020 due to the pandemic. When I reached back out and saw her in August for my next fitting, what she said she was going to do to my dress in January, was not completed. She said she "moved my dress to a different rack and didn't touch it since we postponed". While there, obviously she had forgotten what we previously went over which was very nerve racking for me. She said she was going to start working on my dress at the end of August. I waited for an update on progress, text that never came. In early September, she reached out that she had been exposed to COVID and still hadn't started my dress but said she was feeling good and going to get started on Monday (which was two days from that text). I followed up that Wednesday to get progress updates and how she was felling. She STILL hadn't started, was feeling fine and said she was going to start my dress over the weekend. This is 5 weeks before our wedding, by the way. So, I followed up again the Monday after she said she was going to start, for a progress update and how she was feeling. Well, I had to pick up my dress from her as we were under 5 weeks and she still had not started. Oh and I also had 2 of my bridesmaids dresses there who's dresses were not even touched (She had them since mid March). To say I was upset, frustrated, and stressed is an understatement. The good thing I will say, she reimbursed us our money right away, in full. Thankfully I was already working on a back up plan and brought my dress somewhere else, the next day. When they saw the way she had pinned my dress the were appalled. I cried at this appointment because I was finally at ease that my dress was actually in good hands. DO NOT BRING YOUR WEDDING DRESS HERE. Avoid the extra anxiety and stress and go somewhere else.
I was recommended Nickie by a friend and I am COMPLETELY disappointed in how I and my bridesmaids who also went there were treated and how our dresses were treated. She did not listen to what we said or our personal preferences, acting like she knew what was best just due to having “30 plus years of experience.” Multiple of my bridesmaids have complaints and I am just so heartbroken and how some of our dresses looked when leaving the shop. She completely cut up the lining of my dress (for no reason), and did the same things to my bridesmaids dresses. To say we are displeased is an understatement.
I WOULD NOT recommend. My sister and I had our bridesmaid dresses altered by Nickie. We had our final dress fitting days before our friends wedding (she had the dresses months prior). She had a few things to sew up before sending them home. After picking up our dresses we got home and noticed she had not finished the dresses! Seems we’re still open, excess thread wasn’t cut, the dresses didn’t fit as they were promised. I came out of the experience feeling the work that had been done was unprofessional, sloppy, and rushed not meeting my expectations of somebody who has “30 years of experience”. If I could display pictures, they would speak for themselves. We frantically had to find another seamstress who was appalled by the work that we paid to have done.
Nickie was so great to work with. She made me feel so comfortable and she did such a beautiful job. She clearly has a passion for her work and she was so much fun and great to work with! Pricing was also very reasonable!
Nickie was able to squeeze me in for an appointment when I thought all hope was lost! I live in New Mexico but bought my dress in Minnesota since the wedding would be in Minnesota, and only went home two times prior to the final fitting and wedding. Nickie worked with me to ensure we had just the right amount of appointments in order for my dress to fit perfectly, and it really did! I highly recommend.
Let me start off by saying she has good prices and my dress was wearable on the big day. Also I had a lot of work that needed to be done on my dress. That being said there were several fittings that were pushed back the day off due to the work not being done, and I guess what I’m most upset about was less than a week before my wedding the dress was still to long! It was to be hemmed by over an inch and pressed. I picked the dress up at 4pm the day before my wedding. It was all bagged in plastic so I assumed it was done and pressed. When I put the dress on pins were still in it marking where the hem was to be done! And not done! And I don’t think it was pressed and if it was not well and how do you miss pins? Again it was a big job but just wish it had been finished bc I did pay for it.
Unimpressed. The work Nickie did on my bridesmaid's dress was amateur at best. She took in one strap, and rather than cutting it and resewing, it is simply folded over on itself. Since it's only on one shoulder and there was quite a bit of material, there is now a visible lump on one shoulder. She also sewed in cups and did not seem to give the pleats on the front any attention - they are not laying flat and are affected by the stitches she placed. Lastly, I had to contact her just over a week before the wedding to get my dress back, when she had had it for 3+ months. My dress smells musty like her basement, and I don't have time to get it fixed by someone else. I hope she puts more attention into her bride's dresses.
I would give zero stars if I could. Poor communication, doesn't follow-up on timelines, and now have to find someone else, or a new dress, with 10 days before our wedding day
Nickie is AMAZING. She is a perfectionist and is very detailed oriented. She was flexible when scheduling fittings and really cares about her clients. Price is very fair as well!
Nickie is my favorite ever!!! Her business is located within her home, and immediately I knew I could trust her. She is such a professional, and gave me a peace of mind throughout the entire process. She goes above and beyond and understands what you need more than you even do! she also steams and presses your dress so it is all set for you to put on! she was such a blessing throughout this process!
Nickie was so wonderful to work with! She was easy to communicate with and did a fantastic job making alterations and other changes to my dress. She was also kind, considerate and creative! I would recommend Nickie to anyone looking for alterations for weddings and/or other events!
Nickie did a wonderful job on my dress! It fit perfectly and way more comfortably than i thought would be possible! Her prices are wonderful and much cheaper than other quotes I got. She is quick at responding to questions. Making appointments was very flexible in times you can choose.
Nickie is amazing!!! Had bad alterations done on my dress and brought it to Nickie to fix. She saved my dress and I will be forever grateful!! Her prices are amazing and she is very fun and comfortable to work with! Thank you Nickie again for making my day!
