We cannot say Thank You enough to Stacey and her Normandy Catering Team! One theme throughout the night was how amazing the food was. We had a 3 food station wedding serving approximately 100 and everything turned out great from Tacos, Pasta, and Meat. Stacey walked us through the entire day and worked seamlessly with other vendors. Amazing Vendor
Normandy Catering was an excellent caterer for our wedding. They were very helpful in accommodating our somewhat unique request to have breakfast for dinner at our reception. The food was very tasty, including delicious waffles, the best and crispiest bacon we have ever eaten, and a range of delicious breakfast-centric appetizers. We worked with Tawny for most of our time wedding planning, and she was quick to respond to emails, on-time to meetings and calls, and very knowledgeable. She offered helpful suggestions when we had questions/concerns and was overall excellent to work with. After Tawny’s departure from Normandy, we also worked with Stacey later in the process. She was also quick to respond to emails and was very helpful in scheduling some in-person meetings when we had limited availability since we lived out of the area. She was also excellent to work with and was very fun during our linen selection process.
We found the prices to be similar to those of the other approved caterers for our venue. We did find that the prices were not negotiable, so the rates were quoted stayed the same. But the prices were not overall unreasonable.
During the reception, the Normandy staff were absolute pros, for the most part, going out of their way to make things run smoothly. One small complaint we heard from guests was that the waiters were very quick to grab people's drinks if left unattended for a moment (despite us providing coasters that said “don’t take my drink, I’m dancing”) and did not refill waters quickly, but beyond that, everything went well. As the bride and groom, our water glasses were always full to the brim and no one took our drinks unless they were empty. We'd especially like to shout-out the managers at our reception, who definitely went above and beyond. We would like to sincerely thank Susan, who kindly noticed that the bride was extremely hot (because the venue was warm) and jumped in to resolve it. She really advocated for us and our guests, and we cannot thank her enough.
Everything was wonderful! The staff was professional and attentive. Stacey was amazing! Every time I asked if we could change something or add something they took care of it. Highly recommend!
78th St Studios is a fantastic venue! We got married on the 3rd week of the month, so we were asked to set up the venue the day of. This was not a problem though, because Molly, the venue coordinator, is so on top of everything! She had staff there to help us and was very communicative throughout the whole process. All of our guests enjoyed the space so much and there was even an ADA elevator for our guests that needed it AND a person there to run the ADA elevator! If I had to do it all over again, 78th St Studios would still be my venue!
They catered my wedding and the food was delicious! The serving staff was very friendly as well. All of our guests loved the food.
Our food was phenomenal and the choices were amazing. People have not stopped talking about the delicious scalloped potatoes we served or the charcuterie boards! They were top notch. All the food was delicious but those stood out above all else! Normandy was easy to communicate with and flexible for our changes. Special thanks to Tawny who went above and beyond for us!
Kathy at Normandy catering is incredible - we chose this vendor because of Kathys professionalism, experience, and excellent service. Kathy gave us so much advice and help- she practically served as a wedding planner! When I told her my wedding venue, she mentioned that she was catering a wedding there that very weekend, and she invited me to stop by and see the setup process- which I took her up on! She runs a tight ship!
Kathy was a constant voice of reason who worked with us through a venue change due to Covid-19. She helped us change our entire menu from fancy/banquet food to fried chicken and pulled pork - which was SO YUMMY!! I seriously still have dreams about how good the food was. I cannot recommend the fried chicken, pulled pork, and smashed potatoes enough! 10/10- my guests all loved it! So glad we changed the menu!
We sat together just after saying, "I do" to enjoy our first dinner together as Mr. & Mrs., and were SO happy with our meal! Food was hot and delicious for each and every table. We had tons of compliments!
We were very happy at our tasting and even happier with the plate at our reception! Would highly reccommend!
Amazing food! Lots of compliments from family and friends on the appetizers and dinner!
Couldn't have asked for a better experience. I worked with Kathy and she was AMAZING. She responded quickly to emails and was so kind. Day of the wedding, Normandy's staff was friendly, kind and professional. Everyone raved about how great the food was (even our picky eaters!). Thank you Kathy and Normandy!
Normandy was the catering company that came with our venue, The Tanglewood Club, and the food was amazing!! Our menu consisted of the champagne chicken, steak, and cous cous. We received so many compliments on how great the food was and the staff was beyond amazing. They were so pleasant, helpful, and everything was so timely. Would highly recommend!!
78th Street was perfect for us. The pricing was reasonable and it is an extremely unique venue. We had compliments all night from our guests how they loved seeing the artwork and had never been to a wedding reception like this before. We were able to hire Hilary and Adam as wedding planners to help coordinate everything and make it go as smoothly as possible, which they did a great job of doing. They made the day and planning as stress free as possible. They seem to truly enjoy their job. Hilary was even able to do our flowers for us and helped design the whole space to our wants and needs. We couldn't recommend hiring them enough, they were amazing and easy to work with.
My wife and I chose the smART space at 78th for our wedding after we visited the space for a fundraiser and one of their “third Fridays” event. When checking the out, we were introduced to Hilary Gent, who runs the HEDGE gallery on the floor above. Hilary informed us that she was also an event planner for the space, and after only a few minutes with her we knew we needed to enlist her services. We did, and it was easily the best money we spent for our wedding. Hilary and her team of Adam and Kelli were so great to work with through our two-year engagement – they responded to emails promptly, didn’t get frustrated with us when we bombarded them with questions, and really delivered an amazing wedding for us. Booking an art gallery for our wedding, we really wanted a creative touch, and Hilary and her team totally knocked it out of the park. Our flowers (another service Hilary provides) were incredible, easily the most beautiful flowers we have ever seen at a wedding. The table setups and arrangements were exquisitely done, and our ceremony (in Hilary’s HEDGE gallery), was something that only existed in our dreams. Hilary contacted all of our vendors for us, made sure all deliveries were on time, and really just took all the hassle out of planning such a significant event. We do not think our wedding could have been any better, we were beyond thrilled with how everything turned out and have Hilary, Adam, and Kelli to thank for all of it.
Our guests were as in love with our venue as we were. We did our ceremony upstairs in Hedge Gallery, our cocktail hour in the second floor hallway, and our reception in smART Space. It was a perfect way to avoid making our out-of-town guests drive to different venues. It was gorgeous and made for excellent photos. I highly recommend this wedding venue!
Normandy Catering exclusively caters for Tanglewood Club. So in fairness, I didn't "choose" them, but I got very lucky! The food was delicious. Our main dishes were chicken marsala and mahi mahi. Both got rave reviews from all our guests and I saw a lot of empty plates after dinner! The pre-dinner hors doeuvres were also a huge hit! I'm a very happy customer.
Normandy was one of the preferred caterers for our venue - Ariel International. So glad we chose them! Kathy was so helpful! As a first-time MOB she patiently guided me through the entire process. She not only helped with the food planning, she was also very familiar with the venue and provided valuable guidance and advice. Everyone loved the food! I highly recommend Normandy!
Smart Space was a great location for our reception. We only had the reception there - due primarily to the fact that we could bring in our own catering/alcohol as well as decorate it any way that we liked. Keep in mind that as its a DIY space - you have to rent everything. Smart Space does have certain rentals for cheaper but we ordered a lot of ours through our caterer. We were able to come in Friday and set-up the day before which was very helpful. We had to wait until Monday to tear down but it was a pretty smooth process. The communication from the folks at Smart Space is a little iffy but ultimately it all worked out well!
We paid extra money for lighting/draping through Hilary Gent (owns an art studio) and that was definitely worth every penny. Would definitely recommend this location to anyone who wants a more non-traditional space.
The food was delicious and well portioned. We had the chicken Marsala, mahi mahi, and vegan pasta. Very flavorful. Highly recommend.
Normandy did a great job catering our wedding! The food was awesome! ( they even made sure we got to eat some!) we worked with Kathy, who was absolutely amazing and so helpful throughout the entire planning process and the wedding itself. We would highly recommend Normandy to everyone!
From the day we met with Normandy’s, we knew we wanted them for our wedding. Kathy is organized, responsive, kind, and always willing to go above and beyond. They set up place cards and learn a new way to fold a napkin so our dinner note could be tucked in. The staff was best of the best, even running to the bar to grab drinks for the bridal party at the head table. The dessert bar was amazing. I can’t imagine anyone else catering our wedding. Thank you for all you did to make our day so special!
The catering for my Nephew's wedding was top notch.
I highly recommend Normandy Catering for your wedding needs! They were the preferred vendor at my venue, & made everything SO easy for me. The first time we met with Kathy, she explained their menus, packages, processes, etc., putting us at ease. We knew we were in the right hands! Plus, she had worked at our venue (which was relatively new at the time) so could give us tips on what works best there. Leading up to the day of, she was really easy to work with, get in contact with, & provided great food & service. We did passed appetizers, a plated dinner & late night snacks. Everything was delicious! We received MANY compliments on the food. We were so busy, we were bummed we didn't get to try all the food! Thank you Normandy Catering!
Normandy Catering was amazing! We had our reception at Patterson Fruit Farm in Chesterland. Normandy brought the buffet to us! Kathy was easy to work with and very responsive. I could go on and on about the reasons why I would recommend Normandy, but I will list the top reasons below:
1. The quality of food was exceptional! Everyone said that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding! We had a buffet with salad, dinner roll, pretzel chicken, sliced roast beef, pasta primivera, roasted potatoes, and seasonal veggies. Delicious!!
2. No one left hungry! My family told me that everyone was not only happy with the quality, but also with the quantity of food. We even had leftovers!
3. The price was so reasonable! The price for 3 entrees, 2 sides, salad, and roll was $16.95/person. We also had the chef stay to slice the roast beef ($140.00 for 4 hours). The delivery fee was only $25.00. Even with the delivery fee and chef, the price per plate was about $10 less than the other caterers we researched.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Kathy helped with everything and made me feel truly relaxed. Our reception was more than what we dreamed of!
We used Normandy as our caterer at the Western Reserve Historical Society. The food was amazing! The first meeting we had with Kathy lasted very long since my now husband and I had so many questions. Kathy was patient and made sure we felt comfortable with all the answers. They also provided the linens for the reception. Everyone was impressed with the food. It was hot, and the staff made sure we were able to eat the hor' dourves . We also used them for a donut bar for an evening snack which was also amazing! I would HIGHLY recommend Normandy catering!!
When we first saw smART space several years ago, I never imagined we'd hold our wedding there. It's a little more grungy and artsy than your typical wedding location, which is why it was just so PERFECT for us. After deciding that we wanted a more DIY space (which is hard to find these days), we found that smART space would be perfect. With no preferred vendors, we had free reign to do whatever we wanted with whomever we chose.
We used the Hedge Gallery on the second floor for the ceremony which was absolutely breathtaking. It was December, so keeping guests in one location was best for us. After the ceremony, everyone walked downstairs into the venue space and enjoyed the food and dancing.
Because the space is totally DIY, you have to rent tables and chairs, get insurance, and rent other items that may come with other traditional wedding venues. However, this gives you the flexibility to get whatever you want and create the perfect space for your taste. We used bistro lighting and candles to create a warm, wintry reception and it was stunning. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect day and guests are still raving about the venue.
As other reviewers have mentioned, it looks a little rough from the outside. Handicap accessibility is an issue, but we were able to use a freight elevator to help grandparents get around. I would highly recommend this space to the hands-on couple who wants to create their own perfect wedding reception.
smart space at 78th was the perfect location for our wedding reception. The DIY space made it very intimate. We were given lots of time to set up before the event which gave us a lot of time to get ready and relax before our reception.
We had our ceremony and reception here and it was just amazing. The venue is beautiful and unique. The people you work with are wonderful, and are there to help with everything. We got so many compliments on how unique and beautiful the space was. It's a little...rough looking on the outside, but the inside is beautiful. We had our ceremony at Suite 200 and it was absolutely gorgeous. They also had the other galleries open during the cocktail hour so guests could walk around. It's also great because they let you choose your own caterer! The suggested vendors on their page are a big help!
A few things to know though:
1. The cost you pay to use the space is for just that: the space. It's definitely a build your own wedding sort of space. Having said that, with some hard work and research, you can still have an incredibly reasonably priced wedding here.
2. You will need to get insurance. You may just be able to have it added to your homeowner's insurance, or again, you can look on the suggested vendors site on the 78th street studios website. You should be able to get it for 200 dollars or less.
3. Handicapped access may be a touch tricky. The ramp they have is makeshift. You have to go up at least a few stairs to get to the first floor. That being said, Hilary and Dan were very helpful with getting people to where they needed to be. But if you have a large number of physically handicapped people attending your wedding, you should consider it.
4. The downstairs space looks HUGE when it's empty, but it looks a lot more intimate with the tables in there. We had 140 people or so at our wedding, and the room was big enough that people could move around, but felt intimate and personal.
5. The location is great and central! If you have people coming from the West and East side, it's a great middle ground. It's also close to downtown without the huge downtown pricetag.
Okay, this has been ridiculously detailed, but I know you brides want all the information you can get. All I can say is...if you like an offbeat but beautiful space. If you are artsy in anyway, if you want a unique venue that won't cost you a torso and a foot, this is a great place.
smART space, which is located within 78th street studios in the Detroit Shoreway, is a unique venue that is the perfect reception (and/or ceremony) space for diy-minded couples. smART space is not your typical reception venue, it is art gallery that is available for event rentals. The use of the facility is $950 on Friday and Saturday evenings. Rental costs (chairs, tables, etc.), security, and insurance are additional. One nice aspect is that we had full liberty over vendors we chose (no preferred caterers, florists, bakeries, etc.) It was extra work to arrange these miscellaneous details, which are often taken care of at your typical reception halls, but the extra effort was well worth it. You're likely considering a place like this because you want creative control and don't want everything done for you.
I mistakenly put this for my venue instead of my caterer. Normandy Catering was great. I did all of my planning via telephone and email, and coordinated with Pam King, With the exception of a few times when I didn't receive a return phone call, communication was great, and the food was delicious. They were very accommodating to the last minute changes I made three days before the event. Great to work with, and a great value. Tapas/appetizers for 60 for less than $2000!
We had our reception at Normandy and it was great! The food was absolutely delicious. I recommend them and make sure you get the Desert Room. With an entire room filled with sweets you can't go wrong.
