We had our wedding here earlier this year, absolutely loved the venue! best part was the off season discount!
The venue was gorgeous for a Summer wedding weekend: rustic halls and cabins, campfire pits, and a beach. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is that there were a few things that occurred while we were there that were unexpected and/or not made clear to us beforehand (we found out later it was mostly due to a new hospitality lead who had made a few mistakes). We stayed at the camp 3 days and 2 nights (along with several guests) and the firewood was supposed to be made available for our use the whole time (or at least refreshed in the mornings) but due to some rain the night before we got there it was mostly wet, so we had to find our own. Although the cabins were "rustic", the ones with bathrooms were supposed to have amenities included but there were several that had no toilet paper. The boats at the beach were supposed to be available all weekend as well, but Sunday morning (the first time me and my bride actually had a free moment to take out a canoe) the boats were all locked up so we never got a chance to use them. Lastly, the same hospitality person was looking through windows of cabins trying to clear people out on Sunday morning hours before our checkout time. There were a few other inconveniences such as people bringing unleashed dogs onto the campsite and others hosting a memorial service at the beach one of the mornings we were there. We were told that since it was a public park there may be people showing up during park hours, we just weren't expecting to have another "event" taking place on our wedding day since we had paid to rent the entire campground. To be fair, the city acknowledged our concerns and compensated us accordingly by giving back some of our rental fee. Overall, very beautiful venue and fairly cost effective if you are looking for a unique experience for an entire weekend. On a side note, we had heard from several people that the only way to avoid having other people on site is to rent the ENTIRE camp. Because there are two halls they are often both booked for different events at the same time which can be confusing for guests. I would definitely recommend renting the entire camp as well, especially if you have a large number of guests since parking can be somewhat limited.
We loved this venue and the option to have our own food and alcohol made it easy for us to stay within budget. The only down side to renting this venue is if you don't rent out the whole park, other people may be there which I wasn't worried about until we found out the day before the wedding that there was another wedding at the other hall on the park the same day. It caused a lot of confusion with our guests and the other wedding's guests of where they needed to go. I would definitely rent out the other hall if you are worried about having another wedding onsite the same day.
We booked Strom Hall and most of the cabins for our wedding weekend and reception. I am so happy that we did!
I loved having strom hall for our reception site, it is a whimsical cottage feel and had just enough room for everything I had planned. The dance, photo booth, full bar, and buffet. I was worried about not having enough bathrooms, but I think having the cabins as an option really helped with that! It was a very hot day and the AC couldn't keep up with all the bodies in the room, but being able to open all the screen doors along the front wall helped with that!
We had about 200 people total and it was about as many as I would suggest for the space, any more and it would have been very cramped!
All in all we loved the space and the park, it was beautiful and everything we wanted! Our photos in the park are stunning!
We booked the chapel and Strom hall the entire weekend and boy was it worth it!! You cannot beat the price and beauty of the venue. If you are looking for a rustic, whimsical wedding venue outside of the twin cities, this should be at the top of your list. I want to emphasize the rustic nature of the venue however. If you refuse to go with the flow and possibly wear some rain boots between buildings - it may not be for you. It was absolutely PERFECT for our wedding.
Ojiketa is absolutely beautiful. This was exactly what I was looking for. It's a little out of the city without being too far away. The chapel is wood and glass and looks over the lake. It is the perfect place for a ceremony. The nature views and tall pines are amazing. I loved the peacefulness of the camp. You are totally able to do your own thing. There is a caretaker on site and you have to rent a police officer if you serve alcohol, but other than that, there isn't anyone around to intrude on your day. Keep in mind it is a public park and the public can come and go, but I saw maybe 3-4 people the whole weekend who were just walking through the park.
I love Strom Hall, the size is generous, there is an outdoor deck and a three season porch to hang out in. There was plenty of space for our 160 guests. The kitchen is very nice with ample space for your food prep. The park is owned by the city and you work with them to reserve anything. I found the Administrative Assistant, Linda, to be very prompt in responding to my inquiries. Everything was very easy. The city set out the tables in Strom Hall for us but we had to do everything else, which was expected. It is very customizable.
I can't say enough good things about this place. Our guests asked us over and over where we found the place and many said they couldn't wait to come back and would like to host family reunions there and such. Many of our friends rented cabins and though they are rustic, it was very nice to have people stay on site of they wanted to.
I loved it here. So close to nature and yet close to he city. The ideal wedding venue in my eyes.
Beautiful venue on the lake. We rented all of the surrounding cabins for our guests to stay in as well. We were able to save a lot of money by bringing in all of the vendors, drinks, decorating ourselves etc. However, that did mean more work and organization on our part. Totally worth it though!
Let me start from the beginning because to appreciate Ojiketa's beauty, a person must get to know the history. Camp Ojiketa was built about 100 years ago and used as a "campfire girls" camp, which was the "girl scouts" of that era. Young girls came from all over the state to leave their families and stay for the summer to horse back ride, canoe, do crafts, swim and have campfires. It evolved into a Bible camp and then a regional park. Many of the exterior structures are original. This place is for couples with an open mind and an appreciation for history and natural beauty.
This place truly is a diamond in the rough. It has rustic charm like you wouldn't believe. This is a beautiful oasis on Green Lake to gather for reunions, weddings, birthday parties or any special event. It is important to remember that you cannot judge a book by its cover. The interiors of buildings have been updateed and have a cozy, comfortable, woodsy feel. With the massive amount of tree cover and walking paths, right on the lake, it is Kodak moment waiting to happen in the winter or summer.
This venue is for a do-it-yourself bride. If you want to bring in all of your own vendors and do all the decorating and planning yourself, this place is ideal. The options are endless.
I had my wedding ceremony and reception here in June '13 and was told about 200 people would fit in the reception hall. The final guest count for our event was about 130 and we felt that was very comfortable because once you get all the extra tables in there (guest book, gift, dj, buffet, head table, dessert, place card, etc.) it leaves less room for guest dinner tables.
I marked 4 stars for quality only because there are some obvious areas that could still use updating, not to disregard all the work the city has done to restore Ojiketa, though. Most of the work has been done soley by donations, so they have really come a long way.
We loved having our wedding here. We would do it again in a heart beat.
