Previously used as a church, the building was built in 1952 and has been a fixture of the area ever since and began hosting celebrations in 2003. It is almost a blank canvas upon which you, and your partner, can express yourself and your love when it comes to your choice of decor. In addition to this hall area, you will also have access to the 300-square-foot external decking area, where you and your guests can take in some fresh air. This impressive destination has played host to various special occasions over the years, including wedding receptions, lectures, corporate events, community gatherings, and even performances. The team at Old Sanctuary will work directly with you to ensure that everything runs smoothly. They can offer a variety of event rentals, including tables and chairs, to help populate the space. This venue was by far the most reasonably priced in Brookings. We were able to choose our caterer and decorate the way we wanted. Kathy was super easy to work with and was available for me to ask questions when I thought of them.

It's so fun to hold your reception here! You get to choose how you want to decorate it, you can use real candles, there are no rules about who you have to use to cater your meal - you can do anything you want! The space is large and open. Kathy and her staff are helpful, kind, and hardworking. They make sure your event goes off without a hitch. Well, WITH a hitch if you're getting married. Have fun!

Kathy was wonderful to work with! The pricing is extremely reasonable. You are able to bring in any catering you want. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the bartenders began serving alcohol prior to my ceremony when I clearly asked them to wait until the ceremony was over.

Beautiful space in an old Catholic church! The manager (Kathy) is super friendly and willing to work with you to help make your day the best it could be. The value of renting this space is well worth it. There is no need to worry about picking up linens or hauling them away because Old Sanctuary takes care of renting out linens and cleaning them for you. There is also no need to hire bar staff because Old Sanctuary has them available and schedules them out in advance. There are tables and plenty of chairs for use. I highly recommend this venue.

It was great having the dance floor up on the stage, guests commented how nice it was to be able to see our first dance. The lady there was so helpful - she was responsive to emails and phone calls throughout our year of planning. The only three bummers there were 1) the bar is permanent and we would have liked it to be up by the dance floor, and 2) there is a beautiful photo op above the door, with a cross in the window, but you aren't allowed up there, and 3) minimal parking spaces and you have to be out by midnight because its a residential area. We rented special uplighting with our DJ, otherwise not sure how much we would have liked their lighting. It was a beautiful space, felt so much more intimate than a big convention center-type wedding. Lots of compliments from our guests!

This Old Catholic Church can be laid out to your vision! I had my ceremony & reception in one! Kathy at the OS is more than accommodating and organized with her layouts and planning. They are very flexible with outside vendors as well.

We had to do all of the set-up ourselves. The Old Sanctuary provided all of the drapes we needed to use and also all of the lights. The drapes were a hassle to set up and a lot of the lights they provided didn't work and we didn't have enough lights - so we had to go buy our own lights to use. The manager was supposed to be available while we were setting up to ask for help and she wasn't available - whenever we needed something we had to run upstairs to ask a question and she left in the afternoon and wasn't available at all. The Old Sanctuary was a beautiful place to have our reception, but we were a little disappointed in their service and the lights.

Old Sanctuary allows the renter to bring in your own materials to decorate, but also provides arches, lights, and drape to decorate how you envision your wedding reception. They were very flexible with my requests and were very affordable. The cheapest that I found in Brookings. You are also able to bring in your own food- catering or making your own. The bar staff can be rented for a low rate and doesn't charge if you don't sell "enough per hour". Overall, a great place for any event!

The Old Sanctuary got off to a very bumpy start. We knew we wanted the venue as we had attended a wedding there before. We had a lot of trouble initially getting hold of the manager and setting up meetings. It felt like they did not care if they had us as customers or not. However, when the managers changed, things got a lot better. The new manager was very helpful and really took a lot of stress off of us. We did end up using their bar service and clean-up service and I would definitely recommend it. My family said it was so nice to just have to worry about our decorations we wanted to keep and that was it. I also liked that I could pick any vendor I wanted to cater and bring in the cake.
