They no longer do event catering (they're a bagel shop now). However, the gentleman I spoke to on the phone was lovely and gave me a recommendation for another caterer that he uses for his own events. Hope this helps other potential brides!
I found this vendor on the Knot and contacted Jason. We had talked via email and over the phone. I was to get him my menu via email and he would get back to me. He never did. I emailed him multiple times, I called his place of business and left a message (that I was assured was given to him), and heard absolutely nothing. Very disappointing to be ghosted by a wedding vendor. You should have just said you were not interested or could not do it. I do not recommend this company.
Jason and the Olmo team were the best decision we could have made, other than getting married. Their food was delicious, wholesome and extremely fresh. Jason and his staff were awesome, so friendly and kind and very accommodating. We really lucked out booking them for our wedding, and loved our meetings and tastings with them, my sister ended up using them for her wedding as well. Thank you Jason and the Olmo team for an amazing wedding, one that is still talked about two weeks later. (And my Italian family is a hard group to please) Trust me, you'll definitely want to book Olmo for your special day, you won't regret it!
Short story: Olmo is awesome and they make delicious food! I would absolutely recommend them!
Now for the details: Jason at Olmo worked with us to create our dream wedding menu, which covered various favorite foods my husband and I have shared over the years. We had everything from prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupes and meat skewers for appetizers, to various tacos, spanish-style ribs with rice and beans, and an addictively delicious pesto pasta salad for dinner. For dessert, we had glazed donuts, mini apple fritters, and an assortment of sorbet and italian ices for dessert. We were so excited to be able to share our favorite flavors with our loved ones on our wedding day, and really appreciated the Olmo team's flexibility and enthusiasm in making this happen for us. When we said we wanted Spanish style ribs to go with some rice and beans for dinner, they got a family recipe from one of their team members and delivered tender flavorful ribs that had my Puerto Rican father-in-law asking to hire them for future family parties. Throughout the whole day, we had wedding guests coming up to us saying they LOVED the food and asking if there was more food coming that they had to save room for, because they wanted to get seconds, thirds, and fourths. Their servers were really great, so professional and kind. Throughout the process leading up to our wedding, they were easy to work with, responsive, and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed working with them and eating all of the food they cooked (and it was a lot!).
Stop and read this! OLMO is the absolute best. I can truthfully say that they are one of the top reasons why my wedding was the night of my dreams. Their staff are personable and professional and were really in tune with our guests needs. Jason and Craig were always 5 steps ahead and made the event run smooth. Their food was such high class I wish I could eat it daily. They have such a passion for it and it really shows. Their cocktails were exactly what we requested. I could just go on and on about how amazing they are. They are the only people to consider for your catering needs.
OLMO has delicious food, amazing staff and a great attention to detail. Jason and Craig made sure we had everything we need both leading up and at the event. The food was delicious and our guests loved how many fresh choices they had for dinner. Looking forward to seeing them again for my sisters wedding this year!
Are you getting married in Connecticut? Do you love incredible food? Have Olmo cater your wedding. It’s honestly that simple.
My now-husband and I are probably unusual when it comes to our wedding planning process: We started with the food. I have been a fan of Olmo for quite some time now, and when my husband and I started thinking about planning a wedding, we knew we wanted them to cater it, so much so that we actually chose our venue (South Farms in Morris, CT) in part because the folks at Olmo said they had collaborated with South Farms on weddings previously.
We have absolutely no regrets about prioritizing the food, and specifically Olmo. None.
The menu at our wedding was absurdly delicious. From the grilled cheese and tomato soup served as guests walked from our ceremony to cocktail hour, to the heaping cheese and charcuterie boards and homemade cornbread with maple bacon butter at the cocktail hour, to the crisp salads and veggies, mac and cheese, brisket, and the most delicious chicken you’ve ever had for dinner, to the freshly fried apple cider doughnuts for dessert, all of the food was incredibly delicious. They even made burgers and fries to send everyone home with, which was a huge hit!
People raved. They are still raving. The only downside to having Olmo cater our wedding is the number of times I hear people put down other couples’ wedding catering in comparison to ours!
On top of this, the team at Olmo is incredibly kind and truly down to earth. This is not your typical catering company, but a team of culinary pros who really love food and entertaining. They genuinely care about the couples they work with and want you to have an incredible, one-of-a-kind dining experience at your wedding.
You will not regret booking them. (And your guests will be delighted that you did!)
My husband’s review: “In the weeks since I’ve gotten married, I’ve become very used to hearing, ‘The wedding was amazing… and I can’t believe how great the food was!’ My relatives and friends raved about the food, and weren’t wrong. Olmo made the catering process so easy for us. They worked around our preferences and dietary needs, and even adapted their catering to the venue. (We had an outdoor wedding on a hill, and Olmo had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for the guests as they walked down!) Thanks to Olmo, the food was never a concern for us while we planned our wedding. We knew it would be delicious – and it was!”
Olmo from New Haven catered my wedding out in the middle of a field at Rosedale Farm! They turned a beautiful view into a full commercial kitchen using a smoker and a wonderfully creative set up!
From start to finish, it was clear they wanted to help create our vision of a rustic outdoor wedding. Jason and Craig, the chefs, were incredibly helpful getting us organized with the menu and rentals. They were accommodating to the fact we wanted to dine family style, which worked out great with hot fresh food for all!
When telling them our idea of this vintage celebration, they even went as far to create a bar program that involved a throwback cocktail menu including non-alcoholic drinks. The Black Hog beer was ice cold on a hot summer day while the service staff made sure our guests were plenty hydrated with water.
Olmo is professional, hard working, and the best crew around. Since our wedding we have used them for other catered events for our family!
Thanks to the Olmo Crew for making our special day delicious.
Jason and his team at Olmo are nothing short of miracle workers. Our wedding was an intimate occasion with fewer than fifty guests. Large family gatherings around food are the best memories I possess, and I wanted our wedding to feel like the ultimate Sunday get-together. My wife and I were planning a Connecticut wedding all the way from Los Angeles, so suffice it to say we were under a lot of stress.
After our first call with Jason, we realized the menu was in the best hands possible. He accommodated our time zone difference with late evening phone calls. He was receptive to our vision and inspired our confidence in him that quite literally felt like it was lifting a burden off our shoulders. We were free to focus our efforts on everything else because we knew everyone would be well fed and the food would be the ultimate center-piece on every table. Jason started us out by asking about our cultures and favorite foods that we would want to see featured. He let us think as grandly as we wanted, but helped to tame our wild ambitions to fit a coherent menu, the freshest seasonal offerings, and of course, our budget. He was professional, patient, and warm, which was welcome during a very stressful time.
While my opening miraculous description may seem hyperbolic, allow me to present you with this. I am 100% Puerto Rican, and I had my heart set on pernil (slow roasted pork shoulder) for the wedding. Ultimately, it made more sense to go with chicken as the protein for many reasons that far outweighed my personal preference. The pulled chicken that Jason and his team made was so good, so perfectly cooked, so juicy and flavorful, that my brother-in-law, another full-blooded Puerto Rican, asked, “How did they get the pernil to be this good?” Water to wine. Chicken to swine. If that is not one of the most impressive acts of transubstantiation, I don’t know what is.
So many guests at our wedding made it a point to specifically tell us that they usually expect wedding food to be “meh,” but the food we served was far from it. If you are planning on getting married in Connecticut, you can do no better than choosing Olmo to cater. Many thanks to Jason and his team for preparing a beautiful, tasty dinner for us and our loved ones.
