DO NOT BOOK! Rude, unprofessional, and simply do not care.
The Omni Hotel dropped our hotel block WITHOUT EVEN TELLING US, a month before the wedding. There were no other hotels in the area and they left us high and dry due to the rooms filling up with a Yale event, even though we signed a contract for the block. They admitted to breaking the contract, did not offer anything in return, and tried to blame us for the incident. There was no follow up throughout the contract and the only reason we found out was because our guests were not able to book.
They were infuriating to work with, and never took the blame for leaving us without a hotel block for our wedding. Find a hotel who actually cares about their guests more than just business! It put a huge damper on our wedding planning.
We used the Omni for our wedding room block (not our wedding venue). Laura and her team were great and so easy-going from start to finish. They understood the challenges faced on couples with COVID and planning, and were very understanding as our original numbers drastically changed. We arranged for a morning after the wedding breakfast last minute, and everything was terrific. Laura was extremely responsive (I emailed her VERY often) and always kept everything professional. Thank you, Laura!
We had a wonderful experience having our wedding at the Omni! Initially we were worried it would feel boring to have our wedding in a hotel ballroom, but it did not at all. First of all, this is a historic hotel, and one of the only venues in New Haven right in the heart of downtown and able to hold a large wedding. It's got a lot of character. Second, the staff worked with us to totally personalize the event. One thing that really stands out - we were able to have our cocktail hour across the street outside on the Temple Plaza. We had to arrange that with city parks, and once we did, the Omni did everything to make it a reality. It was seamless and so nice to have a portion of the festivities outdoors. The ballroom was beautiful, and the food was delicious. We were happy with the experience and would recommend the venue to anyone!
Wonderful customer service! Every single employee was so attentive to our wedding guests. We had several people comment on how wonderful and helpful the staff was! Additionally the food was incredible! The Hors d'oeuvre were just spectacular especially the potstickers and the entrees were just as fantastic. We had so many comments on how delicious all the food was. The pricing at the Omni was much better than any other place in the area and has the most classy and beautiful spaces.
The Omni Hotel at Yale was a perfect venue for our wedding. We wed at Yale's Battell Chapel (two blocks from the Omni). The Omni provided excellent service. We used a presidential suite for the bride, our guests had blocked rooms on the 7th, 8th and 7th floor. Everyone loved the old grandeur of the hotel. We even took our "pre-wedding" photos there. In the bridal suite, the bride received free breakfast daily, free beverage refills, fresh fruit, complimentary services and more. The guests however had to pay for valet or street parking, internet and services in the business office. That was a disappointment since the blocked price was about $179 per room before taxes. The best part of the Omni? 1. Bridal Suite and Service 2. Old Grandeur of the Hotel 3. Breakfast in the restaurant on the 19th floor the morning after the wedding. Breakfast was TASTY and VERY easy to set up at the last minute!
We stayed at the Omni New Haven the night before my wedding. We had our hair/makeup appointments down in the Salon in their lobby (Jobella, now the Mane Room - they were AMAZING too!) so it was very convenient. The Omni was great and really went above and beyond to help make my day as perfect as possible. They sent us welcome champagne to the room, allowed for early checkin and checkout, and were just great to deal with. We had an issue with our Limo not showing up... it was over an hour late. I was about to have to take a taxi in my wedding dress when the hotel GM - Allan - offered to personally drive us to our first look location. I was very upset about the limo (obviously), but it was so generous of Allan to offer to drive us and really saved the day. Thank you!!!
We decided to splurge and spend our wedding night at the Omni, but we didn't really feel like we got our money's worth. The room was nicer than your standard hotel room, but smaller than we were led to believe from the images on the website. Also, the thermostat in the room did not work at all and we practically baked during the night. When we complained about it, the hotel just said that it was an unfortunate event due to us being "between the heating and cooling seasons," but offered no additional assistance or apologies. AND, they make you pay for parking! I wouldn't stay there again and would recommend against it to family and friends. You can find a better value elsewhere.
This is the only venue in New Haven that can accommodate up to 750 people and a dance floor. The space is very big and pretty so it doesn't need additional decorating (although I did add color-changing lights behind the dance floor to spruce it up even more). There is a minimum spend amount if you use the venue, and that figure is extremely high (five figures), so it'll only make sense if you have a large wedding and use their catering service. Even their wedding packages and service charges are more expensive than all the other New Haven wedding venue options. So be prepared to pay a lot if you do use this venue.
The staff are all very nice and tried to accommodate our needs. However for a place that strives for impeccable service, they made a lot of mistakes (inadvertently), so it's really up to you to double check their charges and delivery of what they promised.
I can't give them a perfect 10 because I had a number of frustrations with them along the way (and even after the wedding), but overall they did a really nice job for our wedding -- on the day of the wedding we felt like our guests and ourselves were well taken care of and everything executed fairly smoothly.
It was very clean and elegant, with great views of the city. They gave us complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for our wedding night.
The rooms were very nice.
The restaurant, John Davenport's was awesome. The food was perfect, service was perfect and the price was very reasonable. They even allowed us to store our flowers in their coolers for three days.
It provided a one-stop place. All of our guests stayed at the hotel. We were able to have a dessert reception for all traveling from out of town (almost everyone!) the reception and then brunch the next morning!;While the banquet office was very accommodating the front desk was out of the loop. Guests were calling to ask for rooms and as we needed to add additional rooms to our room block the front desk told our guests there were no more rooms available. We would call the banquet office and a room would be made available. The front desk didn't recognize my parents and wouldn't give them a late check out the banquet manager took care of it. The front desk just had NO idea.
