Beautiful, large venue, overall good service, with a few challenges
The Omni was a gorgeous location to have our 200 person wedding - not only did they have beautiful grounds, but also a variety of ballrooms depending on the size of your event. In addition to the surroundings, it is a huge hotel and because a large majority of our wedding guests were from out of town, they had enough room so that all of our guests who wanted to stay were able to and get the room block rate. Omni provided the food and alcohol for our wedding, so you aren’t able to use outside vendors but we got rave reviews from our guests about the appetizers, entrees, drinks, and even the mocktails!
We did have a few issues with the event staff, so make sure to thoroughly read all of the contracts and don’t be afraid to ask questions and get clarity. The Omni knew we had a wedding cake, which we thought they would be cutting to serve to guests, but because there was one piece of language missing from the contract, we ended up with a two tier wedding cake uncut the following morning. We also had personalized tea cups for our guests that were part of our tablescape so that they could take them home as a souvenir. Due to miscommunication and lack of the hotel’s coordination with our wedding planner, at the end of the night the hotel staff cleared the cups from the tables and many guests were not able to take them home. The Omni ended up running the cups through an industrial dishwasher which caused the custom calligraphy to come off on about 60 cups - which was a sunk cost at that point because our calligrapher wasn’t able to salvage them because of how damaged they were.
Also, if you plan to pay for any of your guests’ rooms (i.e. your parents, officiant, etc.) please make sure the Omni has your payment method on file and make sure they know not to ask the guest for a card on file when they check-in. This happened to our parents and a few other guests for whom we were covering their hotel costs. We even told the hotel we wanted to pay for their rooms but we ended up having to retroactively pay our guests back for the incurred costs. This seems unprofessional for a hotel that often handles large conferences and events.
The hotel has such a large number of guest rooms, it is an ideal venue for a large wedding with out-of-town guests. Ted, our hotel wedding coordinator, was attentive and helpful the day of and the service staff during the reception were great. Overall, we absolutely loved our wedding day at the Omni Shoreham - the grounds were stunning for our ceremony and the ballrooms were perfect for our reception and after party.

The bride and groom reside in the Washington DC area. I am the mother of the bride from the Pacific Northwest who planned the wedding celebration from afar. We chose the Omni Shoreham Hotel for the full Washington DC experience. The hotel has a long history of hosting famous people (the Beatles, we’re huge fans) and events (presidential galas). The list of preferred partners made wedding planning easy. Ask for a more personalized list, which is how we found Tabitha Roberts, our wedding coordinator extraordinaire. Surprises abound around the hotel. One afternoon, complimentary beignets and hot apple cider were offered to guests in the lobby - a welcome treat after a long day at the National Mall. The spacious ballrooms are each decorated in different styles to accommodate different visions and tastes. We chose the Empire Ballroom and Patio. The wedding celebration was well executed by a cohesive team of experienced professionals including Ashley C., Dave H., and Marcus. Communication with our team was prompt and informative. They led a polite and attentive staff who worked tirelessly throughout the wedding celebration. After the nearby chapel ceremony, the newlyweds refreshed and relaxed in the living room of their complimentary wedding suite. They later had drinks and appetizers in a private dining room adjacent to the restaurant before greeting their guests at cocktail hour. Due to rain, cocktail hour was quickly pivoted from the patio to the stately Palladian Ballroom. Our guests were none the wiser. The bride and groom enjoyed designing their menu from an expansive selection of delicious options. At the reception, the petite filet mignon was well prepared, and not petite. The salmon pleased even our most discerning Pacific Northwest guests. Our signature cocktail, Cherry Blossom Bliss, was concocted especially for us. Our guests enjoyed the S’Mores Love dessert table, a unique ending to dinner. We would highly recommend the Sunday Brunch which included a bountiful array of breakfast delights. The groundskeeper did a remarkable job enhancing the beauty of the well-kept gardens. A few days before the wedding, we walked around the gardens in the twilight hours after complimentary wine tasting, and marveled at the ombre sunset in the distance. On the last day of the wedding weekend, the skies were blue and the cherry blossoms and daffodils were in full bloom. The crystal clear fountain and gazebo were lovely backdrops for final photo ops amid the splendor of early spring. We had a moderate budget and received a first-class experience.

PART 2 OF 2. - If you think you can ask the hotel to hand out a wedding agenda (literally a piece of paper) or gift bags to guests like every other hotel you’ve ever been to, think again. They will charge you $2.50 per room to deliver them to guest rooms and won’t guarantee delivery time, which means some of our guests probably got it after the wedding started. Additionally, they will only deliver them on one day, even if we paid them for multiple days - so for guests checking in another day, too bad!
- There is a black chain link fence behind the beautiful gazebo where your ceremony will be. It’s not noticeable in person, but it will be in all your photos. If the Omni thought ahead, they would plant boxwoods in front of this and it would never be noticeable. The day before our wedding there was wooden sticks and tape all over it. We had to ask to have it removed. Again, for the price you pay, some of these things just seem like they’d be taken care of.
- Our original contract stated that the ceremony fee would be waived because of the high food and beverage minimum we had. On multiple occasions the Omni attempted to charge us this fee. It was very frustrating to revisit this conversation constantly and then have them act like they were doing us a favor by waiving it.
- A few weeks before the wedding the Omni attempted to add a 20% holding fee that would be charged to us before the wedding and would be used for any overages during the wedding. The remainder would be refunded after the wedding. This basically means they had carte blanche to spend that money during the wedding and we’d have no way to hold them accountable for overspending it as they pleased. Our planner had never heard of something like this.
- Also a few weeks before the wedding the Omni said they would not be able to help with setting up chairs and linens, even though they should be providing that as part of the contract. We had to fight with them to get staff available to do this as they weren’t willing to comp us the nearly $1,000 we would have had to pay our rental company to do it.
So here’s where my stress really took off. I had attempted to call the reservation line to pay for early check in and late check out for the bridal suite. I was willing to pay the fee like any other guest and wasn’t asking for special treatment. I also knew there was no other bride checking in before or after me because the Omni has a second bridal suite. The Omni called back to say they couldn’t honor my request because “there were too many weddings.” I couldn’t check in early on a Thursday because you had a wedding…on Wednesday?
Gets worse. A few minutes before my ceremony I was in the suite touching up. I heard the phone ring and decided to answer. Maybe it was an emergency and I should pick up in case someone had tried to call my cell, which was on do not disturb. I pick up to the front desk asking if I had requested housekeeping. Yes, my planner had requested they come at 5:30 when my ceremony started. The front desk proceeded to explain to me that the housekeeping staff was only waiting for me and they wanted to go home. Here I am standing in my full wedding dress - veil and all - minutes before my wedding ceremony and this person thinks it’s ok to be acting like I’m inconveniencing THEM? As we exited the suite for our ceremony, housekeeping was waiting outside the door anxious for us to leave. I’m not sure who was more anxious to be done with each other - me or the Omni.

PART 1 OF 2. Our wedding turned out beautiful, so it really pains me to think about how difficult the process leading up to it was. If we didn’t have an outside planner who was willing to fight for us every step of the way, I’m not sure our wedding would have ever happened. I wanted to write this review to let other couples know what they’re getting into by booking the Omni to be their wedding venue. You will be charmed by everything sales presents you during your tour and the beautiful gardens, but it will soon lose its luster unless you’re gifted with unlimited patience.
Our journey with the Omni started in 2019. We booked the venue and were forced to switch our date to 2021 once the pandemic hit. Our POC at the Omni changed six times during the course of our wedding planning and emails/phone calls were routinely ignored, even when we found out the staff had returned to work. I at one point had to email the hotel’s general manager to get someone to respond to me or my planner.
The revolving door makes a lot of sense. There are a few people at the Omni who really want to make things happen for you (Ashley, Herb), but a number of people will actually say things like “that’s not my job” when our planner would ask a simple question, like could a high chair be added to one of our reception tables per our layout. It seems there’s a broader culture issue with how the hotel manages its staff that permeates through to its clients. The Omni seems to be resting on its laurels as a previously highly regarded venue, yet its reputation in the industry is quickly tarnishing.
Here are some of the hotel policies that made me regret booking the Omni as our wedding venue:
- You may think you’re getting a good deal because the Omni provides everything to you in house. However, you will spend thousands of dollars on upgrades because the in-house items are tired and worn. Everything from the ugly brown chairs to the mismatched silverware (I noticed this at our tasting) is not up to standard when you’re paying close to $200 a head for your wedding. Ask to see all this at your tour. It may change your mind or your budget.
- The “premium” bar upgrade is far from premium. Ask to see the alcohol list. You’ll see Sam Adams listed under craft beer… We paid insane markups to customize the bar because we were not about to serve their selections. Again, you pay tens of thousands of dollars to have your wedding there, I’m not interested in having Coors light when they could have beer from local DC breweries, which is way cooler and more fun.
- You cannot bring in your own alcohol unless you want to pay a $20 corkage fee per bottle. For example, there was a local rum we wanted for sentimental reasons that we were willing to source through the Omni. The Omni tried to say a few days before the wedding they weren’t going to be able to get it. I reached out to the distillery’s VP of Sales, who personally emailed the Omni offering to hand deliver it as they do for all their deliveries in DC. There’s a certain point at which I had to call BS on things that I knew weren’t right, especially when you see the Omni boasting about these fabulous weddings they’re throwing on Instagram.
- Omni has an in-house AV provider. They were super kind and did a great job for the ceremony. They also wildly overcharge you for any add-on services. They were going to charge us $125 per uplight in the ballroom. Our band only charged us $40 per uplight. They were the same uplights…

The Omni Shoreham has a large & gorgeous D.C. property, which meant that we had both indoor and outdoor options for the ceremony and reception, depending on the weather. The gazebo and the terraces outside of the ballrooms are beautiful and we greatly enjoyed their use on my daughter's wedding day. We received many compliments on the appetizers & desserts, which were particularly delicious and beautifully presented.
This may be true of all hotel/reception sites, but my note of caution is the wedding brochure, which features photos of items that are rented, not owned, by the Omni Shoreham. Their furnishings (chairs, linens, plates, etc.) tend to be focused more on conventions than weddings and you will want to see those items ahead of time. Again, this is probably a note for wherever you look for a wedding reception.
(Also, Covid complicated our experience, but I am not factoring that into the rating. )
It is a beautiful property & it was a beautiful day.

We booked our original wedding date with Omni for Summer 2020. They were the first venue we toured, and while we toured a few other places to make sure we did our homework, our hearts were set here from the get go and I couldn't be happier. Throughout the entire coronavirus pandemic, I have been able to be in touch with an experienced representative from Omni, Breanne, who has been absolutely fantastic. She has reached out to us separately to keep us updated, and has been completely forthright with us regarding the reality of how our wedding would play out at various stages of reopening. We opted to push our date to 2021 and she was so prompt with giving us a list of available dates, and also allowed us to put a soft hold on a new date so we could coordinate with our vendors. We've happily settled on a new date for 2021, and I have no doubt that it will be the wedding that we have been dreaming of.
I couldn't be more pleased with the proactive assistance and unmatched professionalism of the Omni Shoreham Hotel, especially during the uncertainty regarding coronavirus pandemic.

The Omni Shoreham D.C. Hotel is the perfect place to host an elegant wedding. With its historic architecture, grand ballrooms, gorgeous lobby, and perfectly landscaped gardens, it is a stunning setting; You don’t even feel like you are in the city! The bridal suite was not only beautiful, but roomy as well. We had 13 people in the suite and everyone fit comfortably. It also had a huge balcony and a gorgeous view of the gardens.
Not only was the hotel exquisite , but with any luck, you will get to work with their catering manager, Kelly Crowley, to plan your wedding. Kelly was nothing but amazing every step of the way. I definitely have a type-a personality, and Kelly balanced me by being extremely calm and collected throughout the entire wedding planning process. She responded to emails and phone calls in a very timely manner, and always answered all of my questions with extreme attention to detail. Our tasting experience with Kelly and her team was unbelievable. We had 2 servers for a tasting of 5 people. We got to try all of our food choices. The portions were huge, and they even brought an extra plate to show us what it would actually look like at dinner service. Kelly printed up the menus for the tasting and set it up at the place settings, like it was the actual wedding. We were blown away with this type of impeccable service.
On the day of the wedding, Kelly made sure everything ran smoothly. At the end of the night, she sent up a beautiful card, champagne, and strawberries to my new husband and I. All of the food at the cocktail hour and reception was absolutely incredible! We had many guests tell us how delicious their meals were. The staff did a great job of keeping the drinks flowing all night.
There were a few small details, which is why this venue isn’t getting a full 5 star review. Upon check-in the day before the wedding, some of the rooms for our bridesmaids and parents of the groom were not ready until 3:30 p.m., with a 5:00 rehearsal. We had asked Elizabeth, the woman in charge of the room block to rush these rooms. We had to hover over the front desk to get these rooms ready. In addition, Elizabeth emailed us the getting ready suite numbers the week before, so we could let our vendors know where to report. She not only gave us the wrong suite number for the groomsmen, but the room number she gave us wasn’t even a suite – it was a regular room! This caused some confusion, as we had to let our vendors know of the room change last minute.
Guests at the ceremony were supposed to get a cool towel and a small bottle of water, but this was forgotten. My parents were not satisfied with the cocktail hour passed hors d’oevres. They felt as though not enough food was getting passed around for guests. By the time the wedding party was finished taking photos, no more food was being passed. There was still 30 minutes left at the cocktail hour at this point. My dad had to chase down the banquet manager to tell them to bring out more food. Lastly, my parents noticed some tables did not receive their entrees during dinner service in a timely matter.
Many of our family and friends told us that it was the best wedding they have ever been to. Overall, we had a wonderful wedding experience with the Omni Shoreham. We would not have done it any other way! If you are looking for a garden wedding within a luxurious hotel in Washington D.C., look no further!

I am thrilled we chose the Omni Shoreham for our wedding venue! The staff was exceptional and first class all the way. Shannon was simply outstanding and her attention to detail and easiness to work with made the entire process go so smooth. We cannot say enough about how gorgeous the venue is for an outside wedding or cocktail hour. Our guests are still raving about the backyard patio space. Thank you Omni Shoreham (end especially Shannon!) for making our wedding dreams come true! Dana & Mark

My husband and I just had our wedding at the Omni Shoreham. It was the most magical night of our lives. The Omni is a beautiful hotel and the hotel staff were incredible. Working with Mike Schneider to plan our special day was great, he was very approachable and made sure everything happened just as we wished. Most of our guests travelled in from out of town and the Omni did a great job to accommodate everyone. If you are looking for a beautiful venue in DC, the Omni is a great location

We had our wedding at the Omni Shoreham on 5/27/18. Despite rain preventing us from having the outdoor ceremony we planned, it was perfect. Shannon Stowell was a dream to work with through the planning process and on the day of! We did a room block at the hotel so we were able to enjoy the whole weekend with our family and friends at the beautiful hotel also. The staff was very accommodating to our wants and needs, the food was excellent and me, my husband and all of our guests had an amazing experience over all!

The Omni Shoreham in DC is the dream venue. It is still surreal I had my wedding there! As soon as you walk into the hotel you are blown away with the glamour of the huge chandeliers. I had an outdoor ceremony on their extensive, gorgeous grounds. Everything went so smoothly and perfectly and I received so many compliments from guests on the beauty of the venue. The cocktail hour was beautiful outside with delicious appetizers and an excellent open bar. Equally outstanding was our reception in the Empire ballroom. The ballroom was so gorgeous and grand with the chandeliers, long columns, and beautiful tables situated perfectly around the dance floor. The food was superb and we got many compliments on it! I cannot imagine a better venue than the Omni if you want a classy, glamorous wedding!

I'm extremely happy we chose this venue. Dominic was the wedding coordinator and he was extremely responsive to all of our emails/requests. They worked hard to make sure the wedding really represented us and what we wanted. Our banquet manager, Herb, was one of my favorite people in the whole wedding process. I did have some complaints about the front desk - especially their night staff who were extremely unhelpful at times - but overall, the wedding reception went so well and everyone else was so extremely amazing, I wouldn't change our venue at all. Herb had a whole spread of our reception food complete with our cake and a bottle of cold water (as well as champagne and strawberries) waiting for us when we made it back to our room the night of the wedding. They gave us a gorgeous bridal suite and sent various gifts up to my parents' room (and remembered that my mother didn't drink alcohol so they sent sparkling cider!) and sent champagne and strawberries to my in-laws room as well. Extreme detail-oriented and wonderful staff. Also, the Palladian room is just beautiful and fulfilled my desire for the convenience of a hotel steps from the metro but with a unique and more organic look. (my cost listed is per person - includes linens, all food, all drinks, etc.)

I don't understand how there are no reviews for this fantastic venue.
The experience with Dominic at the Omni was first rate from the first inquiry phone call to the last minute of the event. He made this experience much easier. He was extremely accommodating of the various schedules of us and the vendors in arranging tastings and table showings. He gave several recommendations of vendors in our desired price ranges for various vendors - which all turned out perfect.
The ceremony was in the gazebo and reception in the diplomat bathroom and palladian ballroom. Everyone on the staff was more than professional and accommodating. The weather was cooler than expected and hot cider was waiting for our guests after the ceremony. Cocktails were lovely with great appetizers. The ballroom looked spectacular. Dinner was served to everyone at about the same time (180 guests). We came back to our dinners after visiting a few tables, and our plates were covered with warming covers. Anything we needed magically appeared. At the end we were not rushed out of the ballroom and sat and enjoyed the final moments.
I highly recommend Dominic and this venue.

My wife and I searched several places in the DC area, including hotels out to Dulles Airport (for those coming from our of town). The Omni was very price competitive, if not closer to one of the cheapest. We choose the outdoor patio for its idealic setting and couldn't have been spoiled more by the service and attention to detail we and our guests received all the way through the reception. Everybody left in awe of the place.

Abby Wells is AMAZING. She truly made our wedding possible. The hotel, of course is beautiful, and the garden is incredible. Abby was literally there every single step of the planning process and on top of each teeny tiny detail on the day of the wedding. Her patience is enviable and her wonderful attitude really brightens the whole experience. She made me feel like the only bride in the world and that no detail was too small or big to deal with.
She's a gem! The hotel chef is really top notch. The staff are so so helpful and nice and professional. Overall all we have heard is that the wedding was perfect. Thanks to Abby and the Omni staff!
