The Palmer House Stable is a rustic boutique wedding venue in downtown Solon, IA, just 15 minutes from Iowa City and 17 minutes from Cedar Rapids. This versatile event space dates back to 1838. It features wood ceilings, exposed beams, and industrial-style lighting, together with all the comforts and conveniences you need to celebrate your special day in style. Palmer House Stable is your one-stop shop for all wedding festivities, including engagement parties, wedding parties, and rehearsals. Host your wedding ceremony (indoors or outdoors), your reception, and a goodbye Sunday brunch all in one place! We offer boutique overnight accommodations just a 1/2 block away at The Literary Hotel, with a wedding suite, bunk room, and king suites. Our planning professionals are happy to work with you to design an experience that reflects your unique style and vision. Tie the knot inside or outside, where ceremonies of up to 180 can be held on-site. Afterward, enjoy a reception with several catering options available. You and your loved ones can relax by the bonfire into the early morning hours and then retire to the luxurious Hayloft Suite or the boutique Literary Hotel just 1/2 block away. We have plenty of decor items, which are included with your booking, as are tables, chairs, table clothes, a day-of coordinator, and more. Just tell the Palmer House Stable team what you want, and they’ll take care of all the details. Outside vendors are always welcome or bring in food. We look forward to speaking with you!

Same here at The Palmer House Stable all 354 weddings we have had since 2013 have been fun and simple and the wedding groups become family to me. There isn't a thing I won't do to make sure your wedding and guests have an experience they will remember for years to come. On your wedding day I have a tradition of treating the bride as if she was my own daughter and assuring her a smooth no stress day.

We recently had our wedding at Palmer House, and it was a fabulous experience! Al and his staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, and worked with us to make our day exactly what we wanted. The venue itself is lovely; it has a rustic chic charm, and it was easy to decorate to make our wedding beautiful. We had much of the wedding outside, and the backdrop of the stonework on the building looks great in photos. We also used the loft for bridesmaids to get ready, and we stayed in the loft after the event. This was really convenient, plus the loft is truly beautiful! Al and his staff were wonderful. They answered all of our questions (even when they seemed out of left field), and worked to meet all of our requests. Al is clearly passionate about finding solutions to meet people's needs. He helped us work through any issues that arose, like an ornery caterer, and went out of his way to ensure we were happy and could have the day that we wanted. He also was happy to work with us to come up with strategies to maintain COVID safety, which we greatly appreciated! Overall, it was exceptional service, and we highly recommend Palmer. Also, special shout-out to Louie!

My spouse and I got married and had our reception at the Palmer House Stable. It is a beautiful, intimate space, and I simply cannot stress enough how amazing the owner (Al) is to work with. The space is beautiful and it was great to have a bunch of storage decorations to choose from for free to add to the decor we bought. It was also nice that we could hire any vendors we wanted, bring in soda and water to provide for free, and set up all day the day before. However, the owner is very disorganized. He lost the charge cord for the microphone and had to go buy one the day before, the downstairs bathroom was floor was flooding with water and all he does is suck it up instead of fixing the problem, he said the space for the guys to get ready was available but it was a construction zone, etc. He really needs to hire a venue manager, because he does not have the skills for that. He also co-owns the Literary Hotel in Solon, which was a nightmare in itself to deal with!

After photographing many weddings here, this is one of my favorite venues in the area! The staff always plays a huge role in making my bride and grooms wedding day a success. The Palmer House has a cozy earthy feel which makes this venue so unique! From the natural colors of the brick to the warmth of the landscape, you will love it here! If you’re looking for the perfect place to get married - this needs to be on your list!!!

Al was such a pleasure to work with leading up to our wedding and on our wedding day. The Palmer House Stable is such a unique and beautiful venue. The Stable had a beautiful loft upstairs where the bridal party can get ready on the day of. I would highly recommend the Stable for your wedding and/or reception!

The venue has historic charm and beauty - it needs very little additional decorations to make a truly amazing wedding. The owner - Al - is always there to help and make sure everything runs smoothly. We couldn’t be happier with how the weekend went!

Al did a great job from the very first day. Showing the venue, answering ALL of our questions, and being in touch with any issues we could think of after booking. He always replied promptly, efficiently, and most importantly, in great spirit. The day of, he was extremely helpful and made sure the place looked its best. I cannot recommend this place enough. Not only it is a beautiful venue for any event, but Al makes it easier!

We absolutely loved this venue! It had EVERYTHING we needed all in one! There are so many ways to use this space making it versatile as well as the beautiful structure leaving the decorating to be minimal. The owner was also fantastic to work with. I highly recommend using this gorgeous space!
