To preface things, Nelson's Catering goes through the Parke Regency for venue, bar, and food, and the hotel portion is done through Parke Regency.
The lack of communication from the company is appalling. Our contract was made in December, the wedding was early October. The only times I ever heard from them was when -I- reached out, and their point of contact changed two times as well, to which no one reached out to let me know who my contact was when that happened.
The first contact had told us we could do things with the menu that we couldn't, but we were told verbally so no paper trail to back it up unfortunately, resulting in us having to spend more than anticipated. We also didn't find this out till about 2 mos. before the wedding because again, they rarely communicated with us. They did nothing to amend this whatsoever, aside from tell us that things could be cheaper if we used disposable plates and cups.
They told us we could get in the day before the wedding to set up, as early as 10 AM. I scheduled a set-up/small rehearsal with a handful of family/bridal party. They called at about 5 PM that day and left a voicemail to say they meant to say 10 AM the day of the wedding (but we paid for 8 AM to midnight?) and what if we had gone there at 10 the day before, hoping to set up, only to find out we couldn't? I had also called back immediately after the voicemail and they dodged my calls for about an hour and a half before calling to say they got things set up (probably because I got b*tchy in my own voicemail, rightfully so)
Then day of wedding we are two hours into the bar time when I find out that the bartender had been charging all of our guests... we bought a keg and did a $200 credit to the bar. This was not the bartender's fault, he was very nice and got it figured out immediately, but again, the lack of communication from the business facing side of the company was terrible as the bartender had no idea about the credit, that we ALREADY PAID FOR.
They also charged our DJ, a good friend, 205 bucks. It was credited back but why did that happen to begin with?
Then the hotel side... they released the rooms at the cutoff date. I completely understand, it was in the contract. However, the contract had been made all the way back in December, and maybe last talked about in March.... and the cutoff date was September. You're telling me some sort of courtesy call/email couldn't have occurred? I spent the last month checking pretty much every day for rooms as some guests hadn't reserved yet, which I understand is on them. But a reminder call or -something- would have prevented all of that.
Then the hotel charged one of the guests' rooms to my credit cards, and it's taking days to drop off. The keys also had to be fixed twice.
Also I paid them over two weeks ago and they still haven't cashed the check, sure is getting annoying seeing the funds still there.
I honestly would have paid more to another company if it meant saving myself this headache and having proper communication from a company that is literally handling almost every aspect of our wedding and hotel accommodations! The only redeeming quality was the guests had told me the food was good.
Thanks to Parke Regency for making our wedding very special. Everything went as planned and the service was outstanding. The staff were very attentive and took care of our last minute requirements The food was good and we got lot of compliments from our guests .The best part was the BYOB program where we were allowed to bring our own alcohol. This helped us save so much cost and provide the best drinks to our guests. I highly recommend this facility for weddings. They went above and beyond to make our day memorable.
This ranking should be negative infinity - DO NOT SELECT FOR WEDDING VENUE
From the moment we started discussions with the hotel as our venue to the end of the wedding we had problems with every single thing the hotel was required to handle. Here, I'll just list the worst of the worst.
1. After selecting a package that included 4 hours of unlimited wine/beer, LESS THAN 2 WEEKS before the wedding we were informed that we were provided with the wrong price and we will NO longer receive the 4 hours of unlimited beer/wine. Even after forwarding an email where I specifically asked if there were additional charges for the package we selected and it was CONFIRMED that only tax and gratuity is additional, the GM sent an extremely rude email:
Your options are as follows:
a. Add kegged beer and additional hor's to meet you minimum (as suggested previously)
b. Pay for 4 hours open bar
c. Or simply not meet your minimum and we will cancel the wedding due to breach of contract
Please let us know how you would like to proceed.
Thanks,
We knew full well what our contact required, that was never the issue in our discussions, which I tried to explain. The problem was that we were given the wrong price, the wrong price was confirmed, and it wasn't until less than 2 weeks before the wedding did anyone catch their own mistake. It would be one thing if an apology was given to us because they gave us the wrong price and if there were willing to work with us because of THEIR error, but that was not at all received and we were met with hostility.
2. The hotel wedding coordinator / banquet coordinator DID NOT show up the day of the wedding!
3. The cheese tray we received in our package had MOLDY swiss cheese. The staff was informed by our guests 25 minutes after it was served, to which they removed the food, but did not provide any additional cheese.
4. It was promised that some appetizers would be held for the bridal party, while pictures were being taken. This did NOT happen and we had to request that at least 1 part of the appetizer be sent to the head table an hour after appetizers were closed.
5. The banquet room was insane warm (it's August with 215 guests), when we asked staff to turn down the AC we were then informed "The AC is broke...it is what is it." We learned from another staff member the AC had been broken for 6 weeks and no plans to repair are in the works nor did they inform the people paying for the room.
6. The food served at the reception was not at all what we sampled. We sampled a fried chicken breast, but at the reception we received fried chicken dark meat. The dark meat of course contained bones. The food served was cold and had the rubbery taste of being under a heat lamp for too long. The consistent feedback from our guests is that the food was not good at all.
7. Upon trying to check in, there was no record to have a separate bride and groom room the night before the wedding. They had two separate rooms for the bride and groom the night of the reception though. I spent 30 minutes explaining that it needs to be the other way around.
These are the top issues we had to deal with during our stay and selecting the wedding venue. The amount that we paid for this wedding and the service we received was an extreme deficit. We were extremely disappointed with all things this vendor was expected to provide.
nice place
I was pretty happy with my experience here. I did a lot of the planning myself and made a lot of the decisions on my own, but the staff was willing to accommodate my requests. The facility and food was fantastic. Tammy was pleasant to work with. One word of advice would be to check in often. I occasionally got the feeling that there was a break down in communication between the staff.
