My fiancé and I were planning on getting married this past summer at the Sunken Meadow Pavilion. Like many other couples, we had to post pone our wedding because of the Corona virus. This was a very hard realization for both of us and we were v...
ery concerned about how our venue would handle this. Fortunately we were very lucky to be working with Tarek from Lessing’s. Our biggest struggle we experienced with the band, florist, and other companies we were working with was that nobody seemed to care. We were often rushed off the phone and had emails left unanswered, however Tarek was the complete opposite. He always had time to take our calls and answer all our questions and the Lessing’s COVID policy. We never felt rushed with him or that he wasn’t really listening to our concerns. He really made us feel like we were a priority to him and that he wants our day to be as special as we do and I have confidence in him that our wedding will be perfect when we are able to do it. I highly recommend working with Tarek when booking a wedding.

A couple weeks before our wedding we changed our plans and Tarek was amazing. We had the most beautiful ceremony at the Pavillion, even if we were limited to 50 guests. The outdoor ceremony area and grounds are picture perfect, who doesn't love beach pictures. Thank you so much for making my dream day happen.

Let me start by saying that in all of my years on this planet I have never had a better experience in the best of times let alone during this stressful time!
My Son and future Daughter-in-Law were scheduled to have their wedding in August at t...
he Pavilion at Sunken Meadow.I had read some horrific stories of other venues in Facebook groups and first hand from other friends, and I immediately began to worry and fill up with anxiety. I had concerns with some of our elderly guests and others that were flying in from out of town, so I reached out to the venue to open a conversation with them to discuss options.
Tarek and the Lessing's team have been nothing short of a pleasure to work with. He has been extremely patient, and accommodating. Not only was I given all my options, Tarek even walked me through how to have the conversation with the happy couple. They have been readily available to speak with, flexible with finding alternative dates, They could not be more helpful and reasonable to work with in this difficult time, and this has made our lives and planning significantly easier and less stressful. They went above and beyond to alleviate my fears .
We were already very impressed before the COVID-19 pandemic, but in the face of adversity is when the best in their field truly thrive. We are all thankful to be working with Tarek and the entire team at the Pavilion and cannot wait to celebrate after this is all over. It's easy to see why the Lessing's organization is one of the most respected and sought after companies in their field.
I hope I need my event!

We got married here on September 8th and it was perfect. We could not have asked for a better experience. This is the only place I know of in Long Island that offers an all-inclusive wedding package (DJ, flowers, limo, cake, photographer -- ...
and of course cocktail hour and reception). The weather cooperated, but I like to think that if it had not, the venue was so beautiful it wouldn’t have mattered. We had about 100 guests, with the DJ inside, and the size and layout was perfect. Even with another table or 2, I think we still could have fit comfortably. Nicole was the most amazing person when it came to planning the wedding. She answered SO MANY questions for me, met with me and my husband on numerous occasions, and really worked with us on everything, while being unbelievably pleasant throughout. She even came by on the day of the wedding to say hello and wish us luck. Without her, I’m not sure how I could have planned a wedding! Tio was out matre di, and he was great as well. We met with them both to pick colors, etc. and they were very helpful. We first saw the venue in winter and it looked beautiful. I was a little concerned when we came back in the summer and saw the huge crowds of people right where our ceremony and pictures would be. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. The staff at the Pavilion were great about making sure everyone was out of the way for the ceremony and for the entire night. Everything went off without a hitch. The food was great and the venue looked beautiful. I’ve received many compliments on the venue as a whole, as well as the food and overall ambiance, since the wedding. This seems to be something of a hidden gem in the Long Island wedding scene and definitely one of the most reasonably priced venues in the area. If you're looking for a unique, reasonably priced wedding experience, definitely go here.

e sure we had everything we needed the day of. We always had drinks in our hands, and they made sure we ate. They were very organized and everything went smoothly, from the ceremony to the clean up after the last dance. Our guests are still talking about how wonderful the venue was, even over a month later. It was such a beautiful spot and they set up all the additional items we brought, from sunglasses to table numbers. Make sure you get sunset photos. They were the highlight of our photos for the night. The boardwalk was perfect for our many guests and kids that we had at our wedding. We chose this spot because of the flexibility and because you never felt like you were stuck in a hall. You could walk on the boardwalk or beach, dance under the spacious tent, or have a conversation in the artfully decorated air-conditioned main room since the music was outside. The bridal suite was beautifully decorated and large enough for my entire bridal party. You could also lock the door for some private time or to keep your valuables safe. The bathrooms were spacious and great for the event. There was an outside and an inside bar. The cocktail hour food was amazing and we loved our entrees too! We highly recommend the mac and cheese bar. We chose to do a dais for the wedding party and significant others instead of a sweetheart table, and the venue was very flexible and accommodating with all our requests. They were even helpful when I had to change the number of guests the morning of. I highly recommend this wonderful beach setting. It's the perfect balance of casual and elegance.

GEM that should receive enormous accolades for the incredible service and one-on-one attention they give you. Raymond Newbold and Nicole were outstanding. They catered to our every need, answered every question, catered to every request or accommodation, gave us excellent pricing, met with us endless times (even on short notice), and made our day spectacular. The staff helping throughout our party was diligent, kind, and attentive. The staff waited as guests approached the hall with gifts, ran out to greet each guest, took their gifts to the gift table for them, and then showed them to our escort table. We could not believe the attention to detail and amount of help they offered even before the party started! It was a five star experience. The location is stunning. On the boardwalk at Sunken Meadow State Park overlooking Long Island Sound. Our venue was literally on the beach. The reception hall itself has only glass windows so every guest has panoramic views of the beach and coastline. Our guests jaws dropped. The food and drinks were excellent. We also had several guests ask for information about booking their weddings there (one friend already booked for her daughter)- which is the best testament to the location, service, and stunning backdrop of The Pavilion offers.

They, along with other staff, were superb with setting up our decor, down to the smallest details, as we requested (it nearly brought me to tears when I got a peak before the ceremony) and it was lovely.
It ended up raining during part of our wedding so we could not have the ceremony outside, but the team worked to ensure the ceremony inside was flawless. The food was great, the set up was great, and things could not have gone any smoother, especially with most of our bridal party traveling from out of town, use of some outside vendors, etc. As the bride, I thought everything was seamless and I was able to really enjoy my wedding day to the fullest. From the beginning, the folks at the Pavilion wanted to work with them to make their dream come true and seemed as excited as they were. Nicole worked hard to make sure they had the menu the wanted and the décor they wanted. They were welcome to bring games and even could bring homemade cake and a bagel tray. Nicole was all about making my daughter happy and she totally succeeded. On the day of the wedding, we got there early before they got to do much set up. Donna, our wonderful Maître 'd, assured us everything would be in place when the first guest arrived. We weren't worried at all and she was right- it all came together just as we pictured it. The mini cocktail hour with the passed French toast sticks and grilled cheese were a huge hit and the brunch itself was so very good. Not once all day did I have to track anyone down to have them do something. It was already there. They also made sure we were on time for the ceremony and other important parts of the day without being annoying about it. We could not have picked a better venue at any cost. It kills me to write this review because it means I have to admit that the "best" day of our lives wasn't actually perfect, and the reality is that we can't get that day back. BUT - I can try to spare other brides from having the same experienc...
The words "high maintenance" or "bridezilla" could never accurately describe who I am or was throughout this process. I think I had pretty realistic expectations and a relatively laid-back attitude. But what I wasn't at all expecting was for Lessing's to take advantage of my low-key demeanor by doing the bare minimum required.
My husband and I chose the Pavilion primarily due to it's location. The warning signs were there upon the first meeting with the GM; while he seemed to be a really nice guy I wasn't thrilled with his lackadaisical attitude - it just didn't leave me feeling confident that he could handle a once-in-a-lifetime event. But we were excited about the location so we turned a blind eye to everything else. We initially had a lot of issues with the contract - incorrect dates, a tent rental fee that we were told would be waived, a buffet style menu when we had asked for a sit-down dinner, etc. Trying to resolve these issues was like pulling teeth.
The menu tasting also left a lot to be desired. We were made to feel, both at the menu tasting and pretty much throughout the entire time leading up to and on the day of our wedding, that we were inconveniencing everyone simply by our presence. At the tasting we were only presented with 3 entrees, which, considering our contract only allowed for 3 entrees, wasn't really all that helpful in our decision making (we ended up going with entrees because they "sounded" good).
The rehearsal (that again made us feel we were inconveniencing them by insisting on having) was not at all indicative of even the lowest level of expertise on the part of Lessing's. While I tried to laugh it off at the time, the maitre d' made a snide comment about me being "one of THOSE brides" (eye roll included) because I suggested that my bridesmaids stand on the side that would be better for me in pictures. While it was likely intended as a joke, when put into the context of her demeanor and personality, it definitely felt more like a personal dig.
Fast-forward to the day of the wedding. The aisle runner that comes standard with an on-site ceremony? Never laid out. The chairs were set up but one was left up at the arch and for reasons unknown stayed there throughout the entire ceremony, making it's way into all of our priceless wedding pictures. We heard from our guests that the bartenders had a nasty attitude. My mom had to put the cake topper on herself because the staff left it sitting next to the cake. And what irks me the most: we had not one but TWO maitre d's - and yet couldn't seem to find either for the majority of the night which means that I often went without a drink (as a bride it's impossible to make your way to the bar if you have to go across a room full of loved ones who all want a moment of your time).
I'm aware that Lessing's is a long-standing wedding caterer with positive reviews overall, but our experience was anything but. The venue is the priciest aspect of a wedding and you should get what you pay for. We didn't. The lack of experience of the staff coupled with their unprofessional attitudes really left us less than pleased. The venue is in such a gorgeous location but sadly I could never recommend it to anyone after our ordeal.

Bad enough having your beach wedding rained out, but when your venue can't salvage it, that's a shame! PS. the bathrooms are outside, expect to walk through puddles as well

We chose to get married here because of the location. It is set at the end of the boardwalk overlooking the most gorgeous amazing beach. We had the ceremony on the beach, the cocktail hour in a tent on the boardwalk and the reception in the pav...
ilion. The pavilion is also amazing and gorgeous with fantastic views of the ocean. We worked with Kathy the manager during the planning process and she was wonderful to work with. She was so sweet and accommodating to our needs and requests, all while understanding our budget. On the day of Kathy was there along with the maitre d Lisa and they were both fantastic. They had everything set up as I had asked and had taken care of every last detail. My husband and I were amazed how they seemed to be everywhere and taking care of everything, but never seemed in the way or obvious about it. We felt so taken care of and special the whole day. They really were amazing. The food was also great! Light and fresh and perfect for a beach wedding (it was mostly all grilled, which we thought was awesome!!) The staff was fantastic, nice, and efficient (our friends especially loved the bartender!) It was an amazing day and I would absolutely recommend this place!!
