Proceed with caution with using Pete Chambers. It's a hit or miss...and unfortunately it was a miss for me.
My friends had an amazing DJ at their wedding, and they told me they used Pete Chambers....but not all DJs at the same.
Our DJ was gre...at to talk to on the phone, but the service he provided was just awful.
Below are some of the complaints that I sent to them a few days after my big day along with his rude responses back to me:
- Our first dance song started way before we got to the dance floor, and we missed about 30 seconds of our first dance (Yes, I talked over the intro music of the song, as that’s the way it’s supposed to be done. Maybe the first 10 seconds were played as I said their names. Is this a foul? )
- He said the bride's man name wrong. He said a completely different name. The name he said was for my dude of honor, who could not make it to the wedding due to a family emergency, and I informed him of this a little over a week before the wedding. He acknowledged my email, but I guess he forgot to update his notes. So that was embarrassing for one of my best friends to get up and get completely introduced as someone else, while the rest of us are screaming at the DJ with the correct name. (That happened. The name was on another piece of paper that I didn't realize. He was introduced correctly during the introductions. Sorry, I made a mistake. Is this a fireable offense?)
- For the groom's thank you speech, he played a MIDI version of the song, instead of the actual song. He and I confirmed over the phone he had all of the songs on my requested list (which I told him he didn't have to play all), but I did not expect him to play a horrible MIDI version of the song. (He claims it was not a MIDI version, but it sounded like it was a song you would have put as a ringtone back in 2000...)
- He played more than once slow songs in a row (Once in a while we DJs do play 2 slow in a row and I don’t recall being told not to do this. So...is this a bad thing? People danced.)
- A lot of the songs had the music cut out, so people would pause due to confusion, and the music would start up again.(Again, whomever is complaining must have been hearing something I didn’t, as this did not happen.)
Pete's response to my complaint was "that you should take the guest’s opinions with a grain of salt. Most of them are drinking and not really paying attention, and a lot of times they think they hear something that they really didn’t. They don’t know what’s going on, again, that’s been my experience."
So if people danced, or have been drinking, we can only assume that the DJ was awesome.
Also, if you plan to post a negative response...this was Pete's response: "As far as negative reviews are concerned; usually, for a person to justify ‘revenge’ they would need to be intentionally harmed by another. " So if you plan to post an honest post, it is considered revenge against them.
We did asked for a partial refund, but because our DJ did stay for an extra hour, we decided not to pursue the matter. People should get paid for their services, even if bad.
Pay the extra money and go with a better DJ or hope you didn't get the same DJ I did.
