Phenomenal Food by Chef Holly truly delivered when it came to...
the food. Our tasting experience was great, everything was delicious and plentiful. We tweaked a few menu items and felt confident enough to book them as our wedding caterer a year or so pin advance.
That said, there were a few hiccups during the year leading up to the wedding, primarily with communication. Some due dates were not clearly communicated, and we often had to request invoices in order to make payments, even when due dates had already been established. I believe strengthening those internal business processes would greatly improve the overall client experience.
At our final walkthrough, about a month before the wedding, we were introduced to a new associate who we were told would be our day-of point person. About a week later, we learned that the associate we had worked with from the beginning would be transitioning out of the company on November 21. However, she was transitioned out earlier than expected, and the situation appeared to be somewhat hostile. After that, Chef Holly began communicating with us directly. While professional, her tone sometimes felt aggressive or overly direct.
On the wedding day, the food itself was very good according to our guests, unfortunately, like most couples, we didn’t get to eat much. We were grateful that food from cocktail hour was saved for us to enjoy after pictures; however, it consisted of only one stuffed shrimp for the two of us, and it was extremely cold. It may have helped to coordinate more closely with the planner on the best time and place to store or serve the couple’s food.
At this particular venue, the caterer was also responsible for the room flip team. Unfortunately, the team did not follow the floor plan provided by our wedding planner and did not confirm the layout before leaving. As a result, our planner had to correct the setup, including adding a missing table that should have already been placed in the reception area. There were also concerns regarding professionalism, including noticeable strong body odors, which was unexpected and of course unpleasant.
Another area that may need improvement is the tone of the staff. A few guests mentioned that some staff members were very firm and perceived as rude.
Overall, we would choose Phenomenal Food by Chef Holly again. The food was phenomenal
to say the least, plentiful, flavorful, and clearly a highlight of the night. Several guests went back for seconds and even thirds, and multiple people later told us it was the best fried chicken they had ever had. Even a month later, guests are still telling us how good the food was.
We are overjoyed that the food was such a hit, as that was one of our major concerns. We didn’t want to host a wedding like a few we’ve attended where the food was not to the liking of the majority of the guests.
