My husband and I visited this gorgeous resort and fell in love with it in February 2021. We knew we wanted to get married here, so we met with the on-site "wedding planner/coordinator," Jo Marie Laron, (official title - catering sales manager). After we signed the contract, we got an automatic out of office reply to almost every single email we sent. We had to follow up a hand full of times before being told our contact Jo Laron was no longer there. Kennedy helped us for a couple of days and then told us she was leaving, so Fiona O'Connor was now our contact. Fiona, the director of catering, was responsive, but was always too busy to answer questions of confirm information we needed to be able to book other vendors. I understand how busy they were, considering how beautiful the place is, but it took from April until June, AND our wedding planner showing up to the resort on our behalf, to even get a response about doing a food tasting. Thats when Fiona handed us off to the brand new event manager, Sahily Acuna. At this point we had been through 4 different coordinators. Sahily was clearly overwhelmed and tried to be helpful when we could get her on the phone. Many emails and follow up emails went without response. It was nerve racking and frustrating. Not the happy experience a bride should expect planning her wedding. The banquet event order was still incorrect the afternoon of the day before the wedding! None of my guests' rooms were ready to check in before the rehearsal dinner and so we had to start late and felt rushed.
Most of the details came together thanks to all of my vendors, and the wedding and reception were beautiful. But catering ran out of salad dressing, and instead of going to the store and getting more or substituting a different type of salad, they served Caesar salads without dressing - an embarrassing plate of plain lettuce.
We had booked cabanas by the pool for the next day's send off party. The servers never greeted us and were nowhere to be seen for several hours. My guests had to go to the bar and pay for food and drinks, when that was supposed to be included in the packages selected for the cabanas. That was a total failure.
Overall, I would suggest the venue for a wedding if you really love it. But make sure you hire a wedding planner familiar with the resort that can go fight for you because the resort staff are extremely difficult to communicate and plan with. They need better event management and customer service skills.
Playa Largo Resort & Spa left me speechless. My husband and I chose to do a destination wedding. We picked Playa Largo Resort & Spa from the recommendations and reviews from others. We had never been to the venue before we arrived 2 days before our wedding day. The staff and service was impeccable! I am a really nervous/anxious person, and Kennedy and the staff were very reassuring and prompt with answering any of my questions or needs. our day couldn't have been more perfect. I plan on returning here for vacation every year because I know the service is far above and beyond.
Very professional!
Great food and beverages!
Amazing amenities!
The valet parking staff, servers, managers, cleaning staff, bartenders, reception staff and many more I forget to mention...all very friendly and accommodating!
Playa Largo Resort & Spa, in our experience, is the best place we have experienced.
Playa Largo Resort is absolutely stunning Resort to have a destination wedding. Management (Andriel) and Coordinator (Kennedy) were beyond words amazing by keeping to their word to making our Wedding week amazing. Going above and beyond our expectations for us and our guests. The versatility of the Resort was key. They couldn't control Mother Nature, however our Plan B went absolutely just as beautiful. If you are choosing to have a Destination Wedding, Playa Largo Resort needs to be considered. They are able to accommodate all aspects of your event. From rooms, catering and so much more. We are forever grateful for Andriel, Kennedy and the entire staff of Playa Largo Resort for making our Wedding week memorable and never to be forgotten by us or our guests. 🙏🕊💙
Any questions?
I would recommend Playa Largo to any couple looking to have their wedding in the Keys! We visited at least 8 venues in Key Largo and Islamorada before choosing a venue and Playa Largo offered the most bang for your buck and versatility in planning the perfect location for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. The staff was extremely professional and prompt in answering any questions we had along the way and worked with us whenever we needed to make changes!! I can't say enough good things about our experience. The event team was unbelievable and made sure the entire week leading up to the wedding day went flawlessly! They also have an amazing vendor list for planners, florists, photographers etc...highly recommend this venue and event team!
My husband and I got married at playa largo 1/24/20 and we cannot say enough good things about this resort / wedding venue. The year we spent planning our wedding with the team at playa largo went as smoothly as could be expected. Each member of the staff was involved and dedicated to making our special day the best day possible not only for my husband and I but for all of our guests. Kennedy, Monai, Cindy, Valerie went so above and beyond to help us plan the perfect wedding! through out our wedding weekend not 1 thing went wrong. (if it didn’t we didn’t know!) It was a seamless 3 day event! Our guests were treated like royalty not only at the wedding but the whole time we were staying at the resort. The service was outstanding, no complaints! We had a welcome party at the pool the day before the wedding where the staff were beyond attentive and helpful with all of our guests. That night we had our rehearsal dinner / welcome party on the beach where we had the roasted pig along with s’mores and other small plates. The food was incredible and the display looked beautiful! Our cocktail hour was incredible and our plated dinner in the ballroom went perfectly. All of our guests got their food quickly and it was delicious! We also did a post wedding day brunch where the staff anticipated there being more guests showing up then we assumed and had extra tables and chairs on hand so no one was waiting around to eat! My husband and I can say with confidence we would not have changed 1 thing! If you are looking for a serene, beautiful wedding venue that will truly impress your guests - Playa Largo is the best choice! thank you to everyone at playa who helped make our wedding day the best day ever!
Playa largo is an amazing 4 star resort and beach is so beautiful for beach wedding my sales wedding coordinator monai Rooney was so sweet, patient, professional. We had planned a beach wedding and ceremony but due to a storm was moved inside all worked out beautiful.
Location and venue are absolutely beautiful! Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We stayed at the Beach House which is next level! Damien, the house manager, was very accommodating and friendly and made our stay feel very special. We did have some communication discrepancies with our room block before the weekend, so be sure to stay on top of it and make sure your guests are being accounted for. We also had guests charged for miscellaneous things they didn’t receive or buy, so also make sure to review your credit card statements. Overall, we loved having our big day here and received so many compliments from guests on the natural beauty and ambience of the venue. We look forward to returning one day to celebrate our anniversary!
We decided to get married in Key Largo as it was easy and quick-ish to get to. When doing research on locations, this venue was one of the first that caught my eye. It is a newer resort, with top notch amenities, and a seriously gorgeous beach. We visited about 1 year prior to our event to get a full tour of the location (which is HUGE), and we got to taste some menu options. After that visit, I was even more excited for our big day! Upon arriving we got to meet the event manager on site, Monai, and she was so warm and welcoming - she even surprised us with a welcome treat! Our event went off without a hitch and I have to thank the spectacular staff for that, from bartenders to managers, they were all so wonderful! You will definitely need to hire a planner for the day of, I'm so glad that we did! Our friends and family are still raving about how beautiful the location was and it warms my heart deeply that we found such a perfect place. Our guest count was somewhat large for a destination wedding, but they can accommodate any size guest count. If you are looking for the perfect destination wedding spot in the Keys, seriously, look no further!
While your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, ours was far from it due to this resort. During our tour we fell in love with this beautiful venue after we were displaced due to Hurricane Irma. Little did we know the resort is so disorganized that they didn’t reserve enough rooms for our out of town guests as written in the contract and nobody could explain this to us for weeks! After this we considered moving our wedding to another venue but met with the General Manager, who reassured that he’d have extra staff present the day of our wedding to make sure it ran smoothly. We checked in the night before the wedding to find out they had only reserved one room instead of 2. After clearing a room, I was placed in a handicapped room for the night and day of the wedding where bridesmaids, mothers, make up artists, hair stylists were to get ready. Halfway through getting ready I was expected to move to the suite, with my hair and make up done I walked to the other side of the property to find out my suite that they had ready for me was occupied by a family. The cocktail hour was setup in the wrong area of the property and had to be moved. We found out another couple married on the same night as us and their reception was placed directly next to ours. We rented a photobooth and had random people not included in our wedding party in our wedding album. I could never recommend this place as beautiful as the property is, it’s not worth it! BEWARE!!!!
The property is beautiful and the staff is very pleasant. However, communication is lacking which resulted in disappointment and a general impression that they did not care about our wedding.
We had problems from the start, and we had hoped that as the wedding came closer that the communication would improve. That was not the case.
Blanca was our initial catering coordinator. After signing the contract we did not hear from her for weeks. We wanted to confirm that she received the contract because we wanted to send out our invitations. Call after call and email and email went unanswered. Only after filing a complaint through the Marriott website did we receive a call from the hotel. Blanca had left, but no one bothered to tell us. Kelsey was our new contact and she was responsive most of the time but still left us frustrated.
Fast forward to the week of the wedding and upon our arrival, no one from the catering team reached out either in person or otherwise. Weeks prior we had requested information about table styles and sizes so we could create a seating chart. This information was never sent and we had no seating chart for our guests.
The night before the wedding my parents hosted a welcome dinner at the hotel. At the beginning of the dinner Monai pulled us aside and had us sign the final paperwork for the reception. Upon review, the time of the reception was incorrect and was scheduled to start at 4:30 rather than 5:30. We missed an hour of time that we paid for.
From emails and calls not being answered, to unapproved changes to the contract (contracted for a reception starting at 5:30 and they started it at 4:30), and asking me to sign for additional charges at the end of my own wedding reception - after numerous drinks - we left with a bad taste in our mouths.
The catering team does not seem to communicate with one another nor the rest of the hotel staff.
We had hoped for better. Especially considering the amount of money that we spent and that this is a Marriott property.
I could go on and on and in greater detail, but the point of this is for any prospective couples to know that if you fall in love with this property - as we did - know what you are in for: lots of frustration and feeling like you aren't a priority.
Oh, and make sure to check your credit card charges even after your leave because they tried to sneak an extra charge in on us that was not approved.
From the moment I called to inquire about availability and pricing, to our tastings, the week of the wedding, the day itself and even after; Monai and the team at Playa Largo were beyond wonderful to work with. Monai truly went above and beyond to make sure that our day was perfect and my vision was executed to a 't.' The variety of rooms was perfect for our 100 out of town guests--we had 5 bungalows (perfect for getting ready and photos!), the colonial home which hosted many parties, suites and regular rooms. Our rehearsal dinner and welcome reception, both on North Beach, were gorgeous and welcomed our guests with the perfect start. Our Wedding was beyond imagination and I was at ease the day of and barely lifted a finger. Monai and her team put this type A bride at ease and our ceremony (Lawn), cocktail reception (North Beach) and reception (Lawn) were beautiful beyond words. The response for every single one of my asks (even the outlandish ones!) was "I'll see what I can do" and it was done. Amazing. Service is 5-star, team is 5-star, and property is gorgeous. We (and our guests) were crying as we left Playa Largo. I could not be more thankful for this team making our day (and week) absolutely perfect.
Location and venue are one thing. Kind people are another. We loved our wedding experience there!
The resort itself exudes an exotic island vibe and the hotel rooms, bungalows and Beach House are top rate! We had our ceremony at the gazebo and it was absolutely perfect!
Most important to me, however, is excellent service. The staff of Playa Largo is second to none! From the wait staff to the front desk; from the housekeepers to the bellhops, and every single employee we met- we'd never gotten such superior service.
The catering manager, Kelsey, and William who leads the food services are just two of our favorites. Damien, the bungalow manager is top notch and Terry and Venton will treat you like family! Say hello to Tamara and Patrick in the lobby, Yasmin and Gundars at the pool, Judith, Alwayne, and Miguel at the breakfast bar, and make your own new friends! The people really make you feel welcome and special. For that reason alone, we will be back.
The weekend of the wedding was amazing and the resort exceeded every expectation for us and our 90 guests. The rooms were clean, our room was perfectly situation so I could literally walk out of the room and down the aisle. The food is amazing, everything is clean, the staff are so nice! You'd think I would have given them 5 stars, right?! My only issue with Playa Largo is the communication before and after the wedding weekend, when you are attempting to communicate via email. In person, they are great, but by email, it is very difficult to go back and forth. Otherwise I highly recommend this wedding venue, we did our ceremony on middle beach, our cocktail hour in miramar courtyard, and our reception in front of Sol by the Sea, on North beach. All venues highly recommended.
All I can say is WOW!!!! From the first class service, to the delicious food, and the stunning setting our wedding was truly a dream come true. We lost our original venue in hurricane Irma, however, the event team at Playa Largo facilitated a smooth transition of all contracts, guest reservations, and vendors to their property. It was a blessing to have our wedding at this stunning property. Look no further! Playa Largo is a dream come true for your wedding, I cannot say enough about this resort. Liz was a fantastic event planner at the resort and if you need anything AT ALL ask for Venton in the valet. He's the best! Thank you so much to everyone at the resort! I will definitely recommend this venue to anyone I know that is interested in getting married in the Keys!
Brides, look no further if you want elegance and a beach setting all in one!!! This resort is elegance at its finest, which in this day and age- can sometimes be tough to find. We were just about to book another 5 star resort in Naples, FL when fate stepped in and they were fully booked. March 2016 I happened to see on wedding wire the start of a "brand new resort" in the Florida Keys, which was still under construction. Living in England, having never stepped foot in the FL Keys, and then committing to book a hotel that wasn't even finished being built yet for our dream wedding wasn't a decision we took lightly but from the moment we spoke to Wendy Medeiros-Cole, we instantly knew this was the place for us and all our friends and family from all over the world. Fast forward over 14 months later, we checked in Friday for our Tuesday wedding and we were whisked away to one of the top honeymoon suites. (Seriously Wendy made sure we had the best side of the hotel.) We were taken care of to an extent that you would have thought you were the only guests on earth to this resort. Anyone can build a brand new resort but Playa Largo's staff goes above and beyond the call of duty. Once we were checked in, champagne and a personal note from Wendy awaited along with several beach bags from Wendy! Which champagne and strawberries are one thing- but to have two beach bags given to you, is so kind and generous!!) We had guests fly in from all over England and America and everyone is still talking about how gorgeous this property is. From their pool, to their spectacular sunsets with the ringing of the bell each day, to their amazing restaurants- you couldn't dream up a better resort. Patrick ,Wendy, Sarah, Amy, Nicola, John at the Las Olas, Jeff, and countless others... thank you for making us feel like the most important people in the world. You all just took care of all of our 55+ guests for over 7 days. Playa Largo, you owe everything to Wendy! She is more than spectacular!!
We held our dream wedding at Playa Largo Resort & Spa on March 11, 2017. It was quite simply the most amazing experience anyone, especially a bride, could ask for. The property itself is beyond words. To say that it's stunning, is an understatement. Every inch of the property is meticulously kept. We had our friends and family join us for a weekend long wedding celebration. We started with a champagne & sunset cocktail hour on Thursday evening. Sol by the Sea is the only place you want to be when watching that perfect sunset. Friday was spent enjoying the beautiful beach and the pool. Saturday we were joined by 150 of our closest friends and family on the wedding lawn. The exquisite gazebo was the perfect picture frame for our ceremony. With the sunset and the ocean in the background you simply could not have asked for a more brilliant backdrop. After the ceremony our guests moved to the beachside patio for cocktails and delicious passed hors d'oeuvres. After cocktail hour we moved everyone inside the spectacular ballroom for the main event where we dined on filet mignon and mahi-mahi. Everything was fantastic! The food was phenomenal and was even more delicious than at our original tasting. We were absolutely blown away. We ate and drank and danced the night away, then finished with a sparkler exit out on the terrace. Liz, the Director of Catering worked with us from day one. She worked around the clock to make sure our day was absolutely everything we dreamed of...and then some. Every single detail of our wedding day was important to her. She went above and beyond to ensure our event was flawless. Simply put, the customer service at Playa Largo is unparalleled. It's a one-of-a-kind, 5 star experience. Weeks later our guests are still raving about the hotel and the venue. The Playa Largo Resort & Spa is truly one in a million. We are forever grateful for everyone there who helped make our dream wedding come true.
We had our wedding reception at Playa Largo in November 2016. We had our cocktail hour on the beach, the reception on the Wedding Lawn, and an after party in the Tavenier Ballroom. We had approx. 180 people and plenty of space!
We cannot say enough positive things about Playa Largo! We were their first large wedding reception that pretty much took over the resort 2-4 weeks after the Grand Opening. We were very nervous leading up to the date due to the resort not being open in time, but Liz, Wendy, and the entire team completely eased our nerves.
They were so accommodating and flexible with our requests and concerns. We happened to change the wine selections a few weeks before and they didn't even blink an eye. We also informed them of things that occurred during the weekend and they addressed any problems instantly. (The problems that occurred over the weekend had more to due with a new resort figuring things out and not related to the day of the wedding).
The food was PHENOMENAL. We had the filet mignon and the mahi mahi entrees with the Key Largo Salad and Key Lime Pie Dessert. All meals were warm when served (in an outdoor venue) and perfectly prepared. I was upset I didn't get to try the key lime pie but lucky my MOH saved me some for the next morning (still delicious). We even added late night food during our after party that we still crave to this day (the meatballs and zucchini chips are to die for!).
We also added a smoked bourbon bar and a hand cigar roller. I HIGHLY recommended this! We had slight down time between the reception and the after party and this was the best way to be outside and pass the time until the music came back on :) These add ons were due to Liz Diaz's recommendations and fit the theme of our wedding perfectly.
In addition, we had a welcome drinks events during the sunset celebration the night before the wedding. They partitioned us off and added our own servers to accommodate our guests. It was so much fun prior to the wedding.
Lastly, we had a brunch the next morning. The food was again phenomenal and the service was impeccable. It was the best buffet brunch I have ever had, and I love my brunch!
Overall, I cannot say enough positives about Playa Largo as a wedding venue for a reception and an all-inclusive wedding destination. They made our event so special and everything we could have dreamed of to celebrate our marriage!
