My husband and I wanted Portofino for our wedding venue as we'd had our first trip as a couple to the beautiful resort. We started planning in August 2022 for a Spring 2023 wedding, so we knew we had to plan quickly as we wanted a FL wedding before hurricane season. After inquiring with Portofino, Emily reached out and I began working with her on plans. Her response time was slow, which I understood since she didn't have any help at the time. However, after a couple months of planning, we were ready to sign a contract and move forward, but Emily completely stopped responding and didn't answer my phone calls or texts. After weeks of this, we finally got ahold of her and she told us that the space we'd been planning for our reception was no longer an option and that we'd have to use a space that we did not want. The other logistics all seemed up in the air at this point too and so to meet our needs, we were forced to find a different venue after losing months of planning time. Portofino is still a beautiful resort and I think Emily just had a lot going on, but it was unprofessional and beyond stressful for a bride to be.
Portofino was a dream. Jessica was amazing. My family and friends could not say enough good things about how smoothly everything went and how beautiful it was. Jessica and Larry made our day so perfect. Ever single detail was accounted for and taken care of. I could not have had a better wedding day and it’s all because of the wonderful people at Portofino. Book them. You won’t regret it.
Beautiful venue but we had a few unnecessary bumps throughout wedding planning. We planned on having our rehearsal dinner on their boat but the boat broke down a couple of months before our wedding and they did not let us know until a couple of weeks before the wedding. If you chose Portofino as your venue you have to use their catering but when we went to taste the food the gumbo we tried was cold, and the meat was undercooked. On the wedding day the food turned out good. Also, when you book with Portofino you have to use their wedding planner.
I'll start this review of our wedding day at Portofino Island Resort on a positive note. The venue itself is beautiful, and the food is good. Our biggest complaint was in the responsiveness and communication department. The location has a central coordinator, Jessica who handles all of these events. Typical response time was a staggering week and a half to two weeks regardless of the medium of communication (Email, phone call, text message, etc.) When you're paying an exuberant amount for "Coordination Services" you expect some coordination to be done for you. Not one single vendor was coordinated for us. We had to arrange our own DJ service, flower service, make up artists, cake services, and photography/videography. She did book our officiant though, albeit without our approval. Now let's cover the ceremony, the ceremony coordination assistants misdirected all of our guests in the opposite direction of our venue so when the groom and officiant arrived on site, there were no guests present. The rest of the ceremony went off without a hitch. The reception was very well put together. The buffet style plating option was very good. The best service we received throughout our wedding day was by far the wait staff and kitchen staff, they delivered a great meal and bar services. Upon checkout we also found that they had charged us for items we were told previously that would be compensated for the bridal party. I have called the venue and coordinator multiple times per week since August 30th and left messages with numerous different employees who ensure me a supervisor will return my call. We have not heard so much as an email. We provided the exact time, date, and extension for which the compensation conversation took place (we were told that all calls are recorded and they would have to review the records) yet the venue refuses to refund us the money or even give us the courtesy of a return call. I would not recommend this venue. The terrible planning and communication make this venue purely too much stress for what it's worth.
I recently had my wedding and reception at the Portofino and everything was so beautiful! All of the staff was incredibly professional. Jessica did a fantastic job putting on our entire wedding and making sure everything went perfectly!! She helped make my wedding day so special and I am very thankful for the amazing experience. The food was delicious as well!! My family and I will now vacation each year to the Portofino.........such a great place!!
Bravo! Beautiful setting, friendly and accommodating staff and hands down the best Event Coordinator (I've ever known---myself included). Book Portofino early and if you value your sanity, book Jessica for your coordination on site. She's simply the best. Venues and condos are so beautiful!!! Our guests raved about our destination wedding and we thank Portofino, Jessica and her amazing staff.
Our wedding at Portofino was AMAZING and a huge part of this is because of the staff, more particularly Jessica Jensen. We definitely had some hiccups along the way and Jessica was always accommodating to any of our needs and worries. The day of our wedding, Jessica was there for everything that I needed and made sure that everyone was enjoying the day. While the wedding was set to take place on the beach, it started raining 30 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start. Jessica and her team quickly switched the venues and still made it the perfect day. I highly recommend Portofino if you are looking for an amazing wedding destination. My wedding guests are still raving about the amazing time they had and we are so pleased with how everything turned out.
My wedding could not have gone any better. Jessica and all the staff at Portofino are simply amazing. They were super accommodating to all of my out of own guests (about 100) and very welcoming. It was easier planning my destination wedding than it would have been to plan one at home! YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG! It is absolutely perfect and gorgeous!
Gorgeous location for both ceremony and reception. They offer multiple venue options all which are unique. And excellent amenities during your stay.
Resort was beautiful! All of my guests loved the venue and stayed a few days with us. Wedding ceremony an reception was perfect and was stress-free with the help of the wedding coordinators Calli and Jessica!
Pros:
Scenery, Food
Cons:
Planning Service, Accommodation Rates, Budgeting
While the look of the venue was everything we had pictured for our wedding, the quality of service and wedding coordination was almost enough for us to change venues only weeks before the wedding. We actually even cut our guest list nearly in half, as we were concerned about how, or even if, our wedding would completely come together.
They also initially increased the room rates for our guests from the typical off season rates, and would add extra charges within the contract periodically - although, I believe both of these problems (and others we experienced) were the result of a lack of attention to our event and extremely poor communication between their employees.
We did have a beautiful wedding, thanks to our families and some amazing bridesmaids that brought everything together. I would not recommend this venue for anyone looking to have a large wedding, or for out-of-towners that don't want to do all of their own planning and budgeting - but might be okay for a smaller or intimate ceremony that doesn't require much detail.
