Our wedding was at the Publick House in June of 2012, and it was marvelous! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and they practically took care of everything, leaving us very little to do on the big day. When it comes to weddings, they run a s...mooth operation; the staff is very professional and experienced, and know what they are doing, which is key. The only negative thing I can say is that they are so good at their job, they forget to keep you in the loop. I spent a good part of the day wondering what was going on and when, which was a little nerve-wracking. I was told I would have a bridal assistant to check on me throughout the day and keep me up to speed, however she never did show up until I called looking for her, and even then she wasn't very informed and made herself quite scarce. Once the wedding began, however, she redeemed herself by staying by my side for most of the night. I should mention that while the bridal suites are lovely and spacious - great for having your bridal party get ready in - if you wind up in room 40 (top floor, essentially the attic of the inn),it can be uncomfortably warm and stuffy. The AC wasn't working properly, and though they did provide us with a fan upon request, and the maintenance man did drop in to "fix" the problem, it was never cool in there...not a good thing when you are trying to have your hair and makeup done and you are continually sweating it off! The rest of the inn seemed to be nice and cool, so my advice to you is this: if your wedding is in the summer, try to request one of the other 2 bridal suites, which are on the main floor of the inn and better regulated. We planned to get married at the hillside gazebo, however it was raining on the afternoon of our wedding so we had to make the decision to hold the ceremony indoors (I'll admit, I was a little sad, but it ended up being for the best because it was HOT outside, therefore the AC was greatly appreciated!). Though Paige Hall had already been set up for the reception, I wanted the ceremony and the reception to each have a different "feel”, and guests sitting around their tables for the ceremony just didn't work for me. The staff was fabulously accommodating, and they were able to move things around to set the room up theatre style for the ceremony, which I was extremely pleased with. The ceremony and reception went by without a hitch (with the exception of a little snafu we had with the gift table; it was set up in a dimly lit alcove, and my guests couldn’t seem to find it! I'm still receiving gifts to this day because no one could locate the gift table! If you chose to get married at the Publick House, which would be a very wise decision on your part, I suggest asking for more light in that corner, or having your DJ announce where the gift table is, because it was a real issue for my guests). One of the best things about the Publick House is their food - absolutely delicious! Wedding food is notoriously known for being just OK, if not bad, but we've gotten so many compliments on the food that was served - especially the butternut squash bisque- yum! They also did a brilliant job on the cake, and on the candy & cookie buffet (they set up the entire thing, and it was amazing!). I highly recommend the Publick House as a wedding venue; aside from the few glitches I mentioned, it was a dream-come-true! I would like to thank Josh, Catherine and all of the staff involved for their help in planning and executing a fantastic wedding!
