Pulse Entertainment was recommended by our venue, the Black Walnut Point Inn (Tilghman Island, MD) and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the services provided. Attention to detail was evident starting with our initial phone meeting with Karl Stallknecht and ending with the phone call with our DJ prior to the wedding - PJ Thomas. Of course, the more thorough you are with completing their questionnaire for your event, the better off you will be. So go ahead and list all your favorite musical genres and songs. You can even list those songs you don’t want to have played. This company really took the time to discuss our event in length and to understand you as a couple along with your musical tastes. Pulse Entertainment also arrived for setup when they said they would. As I had worked in the Special Event business for years in New York, highly professional and especially reliable vendors are everything to me. PJ Thomas did a great job throughout the wedding and was very personable and professional. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Pulse Entertainment to anyone!

- CJ MalmDJ/EmceeCJ joined Pulse in September of 2008. When Karl (our founder) and CJ met, Karl knew next to nothing about how to get started as a wedding DJ, and as a DJ with several years of experience himself, CJ taught Karl everything Karl needed to start Pulse Entertainment. CJ has played a major role in helping to build Pulse Entertainment into what it is today and wears many hats in the company. CJ holds a Communications degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Digital Communications & Programming Logic degree from the New Hampshire Community Technical College. Prior to joining Pulse, CJ worked as a board operator and web director for 92.1FM WPTS Pittsburgh. In his spare time, CJ enjoys spending time with his wife, Andrea, and their dog, Sassy (a black lab if you’re curious).
- Christian CevallosDJ/EmceeChristian joined Pulse in February of 2019. What started off as a hobby, became a passion. Christian always knew he had a passion for music at a young age. His diverse style comes from being raised in a home where diverse music was always being played. As one of our DJs, he is responsible for managing many weddings and corporate events, as well as performing at the actual events themselves as a DJ and emcee. Working as a former banquet manager and executing many weddings, timeliness and professionalism have become second nature to Christian. El habla español.
- Ivan CortezDJ/EmceeIvan joined Pulse in March of 2020. A staple in the Washington DC Area for many years, Ivan has been steadily building his DJ brand beat by beat, party after party. From his first show playing records for his friends and family, to three decades later with a track record performing at over 500 weddings and headlining clubs and festivals in the Washington Metropolitan area – Ivan has an impressive resume all tied together by his love for music and making people dance. His extensive career has given him the opportunity to spin for all types of crowds. Although Ivan has spent over half of his life as a DJ, his passion for his work continues to grow. - Evan GordonDJ/EmceeEvan joined Pulse in January of 2020. Evan is truly a professional, with over 20 years of experience in every type of DJing there is (wedding, club, radio, corporate, etc). He started in New York, but now he lives in the South, and he has DJd everywhere from Maine, all the way down to Alabama (and in between). Evan’s main goal is to cater to whatever the client wants and needs, and to make their event successful and fun! In his spare time, Evan loves to cook with his family.
- PJ ThomasDJ/EmceePJ joined Pulse in August of 2019. PJ started off as an audio engineer. After earning an Engineering License from Cue Recording Studio, he has taken his skills to the world of live DJing. He uses his background in audio engineering and production to cleanly mix all genres of music. He aspires to someday be in broadcast production, and uses those skills when emceeing events. ouple of unexpected hiccups with the generator and some audience-related moments, they handled everything with total grace and calm, keeping the energy up and the event flowing seamlessly.
What really stood out was how they kept our guests on the dance floor the ENTIRE night. Seriously — not exaggerating — people just didn’t want to sit down! We’ve had so many guests tell us that our wedding was the most fun they’ve ever been to, especially when it came to the dancing and overall vibe.
On top of that, their pricing was very reasonable for the level of service and experience they delivered. You can tell they genuinely care about making your event unforgettable.
If you’re looking for a DJ company that knows how to read the room, keep the party alive, and handle anything that comes their way with professionalism, this is the one I highly, highly recommend.

That said, we didn’t actually get to meet our DJ until a week before the wedding because of last-minute staff changes—and we only found out about those changes after frantically emailing for responses from our coordinator.
We also gave them a Spotify playlist of must-play songs that were really meaningful to us, but unfortunately not all of them got played, which was disappointing. On top of that, the wrong version of one of our slow-dance songs went on.
Overall, the energy and music were good, and we were generally happy with how the night went

Your DJ was assigned and the contact information was emailed to you on February 11, 2025 (8 months prior to your October 25th wedding, not 1 week before your wedding). Unfortunately due to a staffing change in our office, the office person you were originally communicating with was no longer working for us, but you had emailed that person directly. It looks like you received several out-of-office auto responders telling you to contact our general office-wide email instead. As soon as you did this a few days later, one of our office staff immediately replied and answered your questions and apologized for the delay. Once again we apologize for any frustrations surrounding this.
We checked our DJ software history to see which of the songs were played. It appears that all songs other than 2 of the slow songs were played. Your DJ told us that on the day of your wedding, you requested that he eliminate some of the slow songs and focus on more of the fast tempo songs. We certainly apologize if there were any miscommunications about this.
As far as the slow dance song version being wrong, we're unsure what you're referring to since we didn't hear back from you, but we would welcome you to reach out so we can find out more and get to the bottom of it.

Working with PJ, our DJ, was such a great experience. He completely captured the vibe we wanted for both us and our guests, seamlessly blending songs across genres and generations. The dance floor was packed the entire night, as our guests truly didn’t stop dancing, and we received so many compliments not only during the reception but even the next day. The photo booth was also a huge hit! Our guests loved it, especially the kids, who couldn’t get enough of all the fun props. It added such a playful and memorable element to the evening.

ple come and assist on the day of the wedding, 1 being the DJ and 1 would be a planner/day of coordinator. I did not see the secondary person for my wedding do much of anything, mostly just on her phone and sitting next the DJ. I honestly wouldn’t mind if there wasn’t as many mistakes as there was on my wedding day. The song that I walked down the aisle to kept skipping, so they only played the first 10 seconds of the song over and over again. I did not realize this was happening until I was walking down the aisle. We also had a phone call with our DJ a couple weeks before the wedding to make sure the pronunciations of the names were correct and everything was squared away and the DJ at my wedding mispronounce multiple names multiple times. Lastly, and the most frustrating part, was I really wanted to do a last dance with my husband, and for some reason the DJ did not play the last dance song; and even when I asked to do it he told me there was not enough time. With the price that we paid and what what I was told on the consultation phone call, I expected more from this company. I don’t want say that this goes for all of the DJs at this company, but I think the one that we got did not do his very best.

We are unsure what you are referring to about the speakers cutting out since we did not hear that and this is the first time (5 months later) we are hearing from you about it. As far as your playlist goes, you provided a lot more music than we had time to play. Your playlist was 5 hours long but there was only about 3 hours of dancing time built into your timeline. Our questionnaire says on it that if you provide a playlist that is too long, we will need to cut some of the music. You kept coming up to us asking for us to play different songs from your playlist that were further down the list, and we played them as soon as you requested them. We do NOT have explicit songs in our library...all songs that we own are the radio edit/versions and we only play explicit versions if our client specifically asks for it (meaning we have to download it exclusively for that event). You specified on your questionnaire that we could play anything as long as it was a clean radio edit, and that is what we followed. We wish you the best in the future.

astonishing. Pulse came to the meeting prepared; they had clear communication, super helpful details/recommendations/ideas and were clearly very organized. I immediately felt we were in good hands so the choice was quite easy. Their pricing is also super incredible given the quality they provide!
Before the wedding, our DJ (Ivan) took his time to intentionally listen to our requests and to help us fine tune our timeline with helpful suggestions.
On the actual wedding day, Pulse Enterntainment was incredible. The wedding was outside and even when a surprise rainstorm rolled through, the Pulse team got to work to troubleshoot and problem solve making sure the gear made it safely under the tent.
When it came to the dance floor…WOW! One of the first things our guests have said to us following the wedding is “your DJ was SO awesome.” We gave Ivan the freedom to read the room and add his own twist to our playlist and he did an incredible job. Everyone, I mean everyone, was on the dance floor; from 3 year olds to 80 year olds. Our DJ even helped me (the bride) pull off a surprise dance that I did with my bridesmaids during the dancing portion of the night.

nce on the day of. We are sorry that you were not as happy in the lead up though. We're a bit perplexed what you are referring to. We sent you the planning forms to begin filling out on May 9th, one month before your wedding, and we told you that as soon as you completed them, we would introduce you to your DJ so you could schedule a meeting. You still had not completed the planning forms a few weeks later, so we then introduced you to your DJ on May 22nd because your wedding date was getting so close and we didn't want to delay any longer. You had your planning call with the DJ on May 26th, so a total of 4 days later. During those 4 days, you and your DJ were in communication via email and text, discussing options to schedule a call. We know that you had a little bit of difficulty finding a time that worked for both of you, but this happened over 4 days, not weeks. We attempted to reach out to you to discuss this situation, but didn't hear back. We wish you two the best!

He gave us great insight into what we could expect and made us feel extra assured that everything would run smoothly. The day of our wedding, we experienced a few mishaps (NOT due to Pulse Entertainment), and Ivan and the assistant coordinator really helped us navigate through it all. ike what music to play during cocktail hour, introductions, dinner, and special moments like cake cutting and bouquet toss. They also have the option to link a Spotify playlist to the form with must play songs which was very convenient. Having a form instead of doing everything by phone allowed us to take our time thinking everything out. Christian scheduled a brief phone call after we filled out the form to iron out the schedule and other small details which was comforting as well. He knew exactly what we were going for with our main dance music. During the actual wedding, Christian was great at DJing, keeping the schedule on track, and adjusting to last minute guests' requests.

ng your concerns, we are a bit confused as we are just now hearing about this for the first time. Regarding DJ assignment, Ivan was assigned to your June 2024 wedding, in December 2023 and his contact information was given to you at that time. We aren't sure why you thought that he wasn't assigned until 2 weeks before the wedding, since that is not correct. As far as the the ceremony, there were indeed working microphones available, but several people with speaking roles chose not to use the microphones that were set up and available. Lastly, we discussed name pronunciations with you prior to the wedding during the planning call. Those pronunciations were the ones we used on the day of. We assumed that you had provided us with the correct pronunciations during that call, but we later found out that a few of the pronunciations that you gave us were incorrect. We are sorry if this caused any frustration. We wish you two the best!

On the day of the event, our DJ (Evan) and DJ assistant (Kelsey) arrived with more than enough time to properly set up and test out equipment. Our dance floor was lively ALL NIGHT with a good mix of all different genres of music that kept wedding guests of all ages dancing. I cannot say enough good things about Pulse!

There is an in-depth online questionnaire to make sure each event of the night is covered, and then a follow up phone call that will walk you though everything you wrote down, plus any other questions you may have.
