We held our wedding reception at Quirk at the beginning of the month and could not have made a better choice! From cocktail hour in the lobby, to finishing the night dancing under ...
the stars on the rooftop, every detail was fabulous! The food was amazing, the cocktails were delicious and our event coordinator made sure that my vision of a bright, fun reception came to life in the best way. The rooftop views during golden hour were unmatched and made for a perfect reception venue that our guests are still talking about.
While Quirk Hotel provides a beautiful backdrop and nice accommodations, I would not recommend hosting a wedding there. We were extremely disappointed by the lack of attention to d...
etail and poor customer service.
We were 1 of 7 events happening & were made to feel like an inconvenience for having our reception on the rooftop. The venue coordinator, who was not able to be there that day, called me at 8 a.m. to say the staff said it was ‘a little chilly’ and if I wanted to make the decision to move to the indoor plan. Given that the rooftop portion of the day was starting at 11:30, when it would be much warmer outside, we chose to move forward with original plan, which turned out to be perfect weather, if not a bit warm.
Our venue coordinator assured us that spaces were properly set up for our event the night before, so she did not need to come in that morning to double check. Neither space was properly set-up to our Quirk approved floor plan. Ceremony chairs had to be added at the last minute and there was excess furniture on the rooftop. The Quirk staff, when asked by my coordination team to fix it, did not make any attempts to fix the set-up.
One of the biggest issues was the quality of the food served at the brunch reception. We had a tasting and the food was delicious. There was a stark contrast from what we tasted to what was served on the day-of, especially with the French Toast, which was the main entree. The BEO was not followed by the catering team as several items were missing or incorrect.
The week after our wedding, I relayed all of this information to the coordinator over the phone. This is where we experienced very poor customer service— the email response back to me from her was very “he said, she said” and they lied, saying that my coordination team never approached their team to change the rooftop set-up. We also found out that due to an “internal miscommunication” we were served the gluten free version of the French Toast. We were offered a very small percentage off of our final bill, to account for food items being missing/incorrect.
I responded within 24 hours, expressing our continued feelings, asking specifically for contact info for a manager. That email went unanswered for 2 weeks, until I sent an email to her and a manager, once again, expressing frustration and that I would be writing a review. Of course, that email was responded to within an hour, with no accountability for the lack of response from the first email. That email said they wanted to “continue working toward a resolution in good faith.” I responded within 3 days and almost a month later, have not heard anything back from them.
As someone that has worked in the wedding industry for 8 years, having previously been a venue coordinator, I was incredibly disappointed by the lack of customer service we experienced. To have important communications go unanswered is completely unacceptable. The lack of attention to detail was also unacceptable. After speaking with other wedding professionals, this seems to be par for the course with Quirk. There definitely seems to be ‘quantity over quality’ aspect to how events are handled.
I would highly recommend searching for a different venue for your wedding. Our wedding day was beautiful and fun, despite the issues we encountered from Quirk, but do have some lingering regrets about investing so much into a venue that didn’t value a quality experience and customer service.
We had our wedding ceremony at Quirk's rooftop and it was everything we could have dreamed of. We started out with a different event manager (who was good while she was at Quirk) t...
hen along came Jasmine.
Jasmine was extremely professional, communicative, and exactly who we needed! She worked closely with our coordinator, checked in on us during the rehearsal, made sure everyone at rehearsal the day before had plenty of water to beat the heat, and communicated our requests to her staff perfectly. She was so kind and just lovely to be around!
The entire team at Quirk is amazing. They rounded up chairs and fans for the suites we were getting ready in, were so genuinely excited to be apart of our day, and definitely made it that much more magical.
I highly recommend Quirk for events! Jasmine helped keep us running smoothly, all of the spaces are beyond gorgeous, and the entire staff are so kind and welcoming.
The Quirk's website does not list the accurate capacity. Although they advertise the rooftop can fit up to 120 people, Caitlin Sunderland (event planning manager) emailed me stati...
ng, "Congrats on your wedding! Unfortunately for a wedding ceremony the capacity for both our rooftop and courtyard is approximately 60 guests once seating if factored in." Losing 50% capacity is quite significant and should be listed on the website to save people time submitting inquiries for a venue far too small.
What can I say about this place? It was an amazing, magical place to have our wedding. We worked with Melissa and her team to bring our wedding vision to life. She was such a p...
leasure to work with! My husband and I really enjoyed all our coordination meetings with her. She is extremely professional, has a warm and extremely fun personality that we really enjoyed. The day of our wedding went so smoothly and perfect. I honestly can't thank her and her team enough for all their hard work and dedication that day! I felt like she was personally invested in our wedding day and felt like more of a friend helping us out the whole time. Host your wedding at The Quirk! I promise you won't have any regrets!
Out of the 20+ vendors I worked with on my wedding, I'm disappointed to say that Quirk was by far the worst I knew from the moment we got engaged that I wanted to host my room bloc...
k and welcome reception at Quirk because it is a stunning, one-of-a-kind property in the heart of Richmond. Unfortunately, the staff, specifically Melissa Vine, do not reflect the beautiful venue. I would never recommend it to another bride for a room block or an event. Please do not book it.
I began working with Melissa in August of 2018. The moment the contract was signed, Melissa became unresponsive- she would sometimes take a week to get back to me on a single question, often only in response to me sending multiple follow up emails. When I did receive answers from her they were often so convoluted that I had to give up and just call her.
It was Melissa's suggestion for us to do a bar based on consumption for our welcome party on June 7th in the Courtyard (we ended up getting rained out and having it on the Mezzanine). She suggested we have a set amount of our food and beverage minimum allocated towards the bar tab, which was supposed to be sufficient per her recommendation for approx. 50 guests.
The day of the event, during my bridal luncheon (also the day before my wedding) I get an email from Melissa asking me what we were going to do when the tab for the bar runs out, as if she had known it was going to run out all along. How she felt like that was an appropriate time to email me, and why she didn't discuss the possibility of overage with me prior to that is lost on me. We worked together for 10 months, she had so much time to talk this through with me. I had no choice at that point to provide another credit card in case of overage. It was too late to scale back on the amount of food ordered to allocate more money to the bar. I still feel so taken advantage of thinking about it. We ended up DOUBLING the original bar tab and the amount that Melissa suggested would be appropriate, blowing our budget for the party out of the water by almost a thousand dollars.
I sell catering in DC for a living, and I can say with 100% confidence that I don't see the value in Quirk. I received zero compliments on the food and party itself. The rooms are expensive and overpriced for what they are. And worst of all, the staff will make you feel like you are not a priority.
I did reach out to management at Quirk to discuss these issues but they feel like they "did not miss the mark" in any way, even though I, as their client, continue to tell them that they completely did. In my line of work, my clients opinions matter. That is simply not the case at Quirk.
As a wedding planner myself, it was such a relief to have a venue like Quirk to make my dreams come true! The food was delicious and the service was accommodating! I had 60 guests ...
and it was the perfect size. For a bride looking for a truly luxurious boutique experience, Quirk Hotel is your destination location!
As a wedding venue this hotel was a huge disappointment. The hotel itself is adorable with multiple fabulous spaces for a small wedding. Unfortunately the staff and management seem...
to know nothing about weddings and repeatedly presented challenges. They started with telling my daughter (the bride) the week before the wedding that they changed their minds about some crucial details for the wedding dinner. She was able to come to a compromise with them but greatly disliked having to argue so close to her wedding date. They didn't have anything to hang a wedding dress from and seemed puzzled that we didn't want to stuff the dress in the closet or toss it on the bed. They bumped the wedding cake and nearly ruined it (their chef was able to repair it). They added $700 to my credit card for my one night stay and took two days to straighten it out. The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of a runner for my daughter to walk down in the courtyard where the ceremony was held. The floor was filthy and her dress was streaked with black by the time she made it to the front of the room. If they can overcome these issues, they could be a top venue for small weddings. If not, look elsewhere.
