The Quirk's website does not list the accurate capacity. Although they advertise the rooftop can fit up to 120 people, Caitlin Sunderland (event planning manager) emailed me stating, "Congrats on your wedding! Unfortunately for a wedding ceremony the capacity for both our rooftop and courtyard is approximately 60 guests once seating if factored in." Losing 50% capacity is quite significant and should be listed on the website to save people time submitting inquiries for a venue far too small.
What can I say about this place? It was an amazing, magical place to have our wedding. We worked with Melissa and her team to bring our wedding vision to life. She was such a pleasure to work with! My husband and I really enjoyed all our coordination meetings with her. She is extremely professional, has a warm and extremely fun personality that we really enjoyed. The day of our wedding went so smoothly and perfect. I honestly can't thank her and her team enough for all their hard work and dedication that day! I felt like she was personally invested in our wedding day and felt like more of a friend helping us out the whole time. Host your wedding at The Quirk! I promise you won't have any regrets!
Out of the 20+ vendors I worked with on my wedding, I'm disappointed to say that Quirk was by far the worst I knew from the moment we got engaged that I wanted to host my room block and welcome reception at Quirk because it is a stunning, one-of-a-kind property in the heart of Richmond. Unfortunately, the staff, specifically Melissa Vine, do not reflect the beautiful venue. I would never recommend it to another bride for a room block or an event. Please do not book it.
I began working with Melissa in August of 2018. The moment the contract was signed, Melissa became unresponsive- she would sometimes take a week to get back to me on a single question, often only in response to me sending multiple follow up emails. When I did receive answers from her they were often so convoluted that I had to give up and just call her.
It was Melissa's suggestion for us to do a bar based on consumption for our welcome party on June 7th in the Courtyard (we ended up getting rained out and having it on the Mezzanine). She suggested we have a set amount of our food and beverage minimum allocated towards the bar tab, which was supposed to be sufficient per her recommendation for approx. 50 guests.
The day of the event, during my bridal luncheon (also the day before my wedding) I get an email from Melissa asking me what we were going to do when the tab for the bar runs out, as if she had known it was going to run out all along. How she felt like that was an appropriate time to email me, and why she didn't discuss the possibility of overage with me prior to that is lost on me. We worked together for 10 months, she had so much time to talk this through with me. I had no choice at that point to provide another credit card in case of overage. It was too late to scale back on the amount of food ordered to allocate more money to the bar. I still feel so taken advantage of thinking about it. We ended up DOUBLING the original bar tab and the amount that Melissa suggested would be appropriate, blowing our budget for the party out of the water by almost a thousand dollars.
I sell catering in DC for a living, and I can say with 100% confidence that I don't see the value in Quirk. I received zero compliments on the food and party itself. The rooms are expensive and overpriced for what they are. And worst of all, the staff will make you feel like you are not a priority.
I did reach out to management at Quirk to discuss these issues but they feel like they "did not miss the mark" in any way, even though I, as their client, continue to tell them that they completely did. In my line of work, my clients opinions matter. That is simply not the case at Quirk.
As a wedding planner myself, it was such a relief to have a venue like Quirk to make my dreams come true! The food was delicious and the service was accommodating! I had 60 guests and it was the perfect size. For a bride looking for a truly luxurious boutique experience, Quirk Hotel is your destination location!
As a wedding venue this hotel was a huge disappointment. The hotel itself is adorable with multiple fabulous spaces for a small wedding. Unfortunately the staff and management seem to know nothing about weddings and repeatedly presented challenges. They started with telling my daughter (the bride) the week before the wedding that they changed their minds about some crucial details for the wedding dinner. She was able to come to a compromise with them but greatly disliked having to argue so close to her wedding date. They didn't have anything to hang a wedding dress from and seemed puzzled that we didn't want to stuff the dress in the closet or toss it on the bed. They bumped the wedding cake and nearly ruined it (their chef was able to repair it). They added $700 to my credit card for my one night stay and took two days to straighten it out. The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of a runner for my daughter to walk down in the courtyard where the ceremony was held. The floor was filthy and her dress was streaked with black by the time she made it to the front of the room. If they can overcome these issues, they could be a top venue for small weddings. If not, look elsewhere.
