I had reserved a Hotel Block as well as rented the Vikings Room for a small wedding reception here.
The Hotel Block: I worked with Nancy for this, the price was fantastic for the area. Had a few hiccups in the beginning with guest trying to just get one night instead of 2 but it was quickly fixed by Nancy and worked out perfectly. Guest told me how they enjoyed their rooms and it was very comfy and not to mention that wonderful harbor view.
The Vikings Room/Catering: First of all huge huge praise to Mary who was working that night. She was INCREDIBLE- always insuring we were happy and taken care of. The Vikings Room was perfect space for my around 50 guest and even more room for the children who just wanted to play a bit.
The food: The BBQ Meatballs and the Chicken and Pork Sliders were amazing and a huge hit, as well as the charcuterie platter. All Fruit was very fresh and tasted great.
Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better place to send my guest for a night to stay and for the wonderful time we had after the wedding.
We held our wedding at the Radisson Duluth Harborview in the summer of 2015. The event space was great, however they did not get around to the renovations they told us would be done before our wedding. Fortunately, they hadn't even started so we weren't celebrating around construction.
Pros:
Friendly staff members, all of the people we worked with were very friendly. One server even came up to my new husband and I when she was done and told us how much she enjoyed serving at our wedding.
Accommodating: The Radisson comped us a room to use for making flowers the day before our wedding, allowed us to keep our flowers and cake in their cooler, and let us use their mirrors and table numbers for our centerpieces.
Package: Their wedding package includes a beautifully decorated ceiling, a honeymoon suite, bartenders, champagne toast and hotel security.
Cons:
Coordinator Change: They switched who we were working with about a month before the wedding. It was fine, but we had to make sure that all of the things the former coordinator had told us were still true.
Randos: Because the Ballroom is on the same level as the street, and shares a foyer with a bar, we had random people wandering about our space. Two bearded guys hopped into a picture with my mom and all her siblings and people (presumably not our guests) raided our bathroom baskets. By the time we got to the reception, an hour after it started, the only things left in the women's bathroom were mints and a lint roller. If you plan to use this space, save your money and forgo any type of 'freebie' that is in the general foyer area.
Elevators: The Radisson only has 2 elevators in the main section of the building. It was an incredibly long wait to go up or down in the elevators during check in, check out, and meal times. And, there is no door handle to get onto the stairs from the lobby level.
The space is nice, however it's not worth all of the hassle. We had constant issues with the room block, our guests were quoted prices higher than we had agreed on or told they could not use the block deal when there were still some available. It has been 3 weeks since the wedding and some guest are still having issues with being over charged and are unable to get their money back. The elevators would stop about a foot above the floor my grandma fell down trying to get out of one, when she told the front desk they said she should have just kept going up and down till it got to a floor where it stopped level with the floor, there was a lot of turn over during the time we were planning, I had at least 3 different contacts. the final change happened the week of the weeding, she had no idea what she was doing and gave me 3 different final bills. Once she said she was sure on the amount we wrote her a check, she then called my room on the day of the wedding while i was out getting my hair done to tell me she was wrong and we needed to get her a check for another 1200. My mom talked to her and suggested that the day of the wedding wasn't the time to bring it up and that Sunday Am would be a more appropriate time. So she waited till the reception to bring it up again in front of guests and family, it was very unprofessional my mother and mother in-law had to step in and tell her to back off. Sunday Am I met with her and she informed me that she had already charged the balance to our card on file for the room. She also scolded me for one of my husbands cousins who had apparently gotten adult beverages from the bar without an ID, I was unaware that one of my duties as the Bride was to monitor the reception for underage drinking, I assumed it was the bartenders responsibility to prevent that. The only positive was the wait staff and the decorator, all of our servers were amazing everyone ranted and raved over how nice and helpful they were and Monica the decorator did amazing work. the ballroom looked gorgeous! If they ever hire new management this venue would be worth a second look but until then i would go anywhere else.
Hotel is very busy in the summer. They are not very accommodating to booking out a lot of rooms for the night. Told many guests there were no rooms left in the block when there was. The reception area is very helpful.
